Good morning to you!

This one will be quick.

It has happened to us all on Facebook, but it happened to me yesterday.

I received "that" friend request. Yes, I'm talkin' 'bout that one from the crush I had when I was in the 11th grade.
We were crazy about each other...........back in the day, of course. We never, however, entered into any type of relationship though, just phone contact. Naturally, that made the mental escapades even more vivid. Why, you ask? Well, it's quite simple. The less involved a person is, with a previous infatuation, the greater capacity one has to create a "perfect fantasy" in one's mind; because you don't have any 'horrrible endings' to draw from, only candy-coated imaginations. At any rate, we managed to keep in touch all the way up until 1994; two years, before my wife and I were wed. You know how the Facebook scenario goes. You see the little "people" icon highlighted, showing that you have a friend request. You click on it, and suddenly......"that" name appears. I was floored. At that moment, the Ghost of Crushes Past crept up, and began to take me on a psychological and emotional roller coaster. Every conversatinon, her perfume, every song, from the past replayed, simultaneously, in my handsome, egg-shaped cranium. I buckled for a moment and regrouped.

Isn't it amazing how the voices from your body and mind never take into account, the gravity of your current circumstance and commitments? You just fly away.......at least I did. for about 8 munutes.

But, fortunately, thanks to God and the great spiritual mentors that I have, I was able to pull, from my self help medicine bag, a secret weapon that hasn't failed me yet. 'Wanna know what it is? Relax alright!!! I'm gonna tell you........

It is a question...........and it is as follows:

"If I pursue what my body and mind are telling me to pursue, what will be the consequences?"

At this point, I am able to usher in images of my reality. My wife, eight children and all the memories we've created over the past 18 years begins to crystallize.............and Wick Daddy is back home safely from his short trip to Pleasure Island.

It is my sincere hope that you were able to grasp something my brief rendezvous with deja vu.

But now that I've gone back and absorbed everything in this blog entry, I have just one question for you.

Is it me, or did this stroll down memory lane seem longer than eight minutes to you too???????????

If you have had a bad experience with someone, make every effort to keep the experience to yourself.
If another one of your friends meets the same person and gets along with them, you could be seen as the bad guy. If your friend, on the other hand, has a similar bad experience, let it be because of their own personal encounter; don't let it be because you poisoned their mind, before they had an opportunity to get to know the person for themselves.

Kevin Hart, Ice Cube - Ride Along Movie Trailer 2014

Greetings Party People.

As I watched all the Christmas cartoons and basketball games today,

I began to reflect on how truly blessed I am.

At this time, however, I also cannot help but ponder about the welfare of those

who are less fortunate and may have been forgotten this season.

As I was reflecting, I happened to see this trailer (click here) for the new Kevin Hart /

Ice Cube movie: Ride Along, which hits theaters in January 2014.

Here is the question I asked myself after watching this trailer:

Did anybody think about contacting Skee-Lo to see if he could at least make a cameo in the video (since he originally performed and probably wrote the song?)

I'm very proud of the accomplishments of both Ice Cube and Kevin Hart and this isn't a slam on either of them.

Furthermore, if a record company or some other entity, owns the publishing rights, they have legal claim to reproduce the artistic work.

But as a successful artist, that is reproducing someone else's song, I personally would at least ask the question: "Hey Mr. Hollywood/ agent/ publicist, can one of you guys try to reach out to Skee-Lo and see if he'd like to at least do a quick "Stan Lee" type of pop-in on this video?

If any of my readers follows either of these celebrities on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, could you ask them and comment below?

Maybe they did try to reach him and if that is the case, then my apologies are certainly in order.

It is possible that Skee Lo may not have owned his music, as most artists do not own their artistic work; and he probably could use a little revenue, during the Christmas season.

If anyone can add to this discussion, please do.

Forgiveness & Distance

This post is as much a declaration of my freedom from anger, hurt & disappointment as it is a tool that I'm hopeful will be able to equip every reader, should you ever encounter a similar event.
There are 3 people that I will converse with you about, just to set a backdrop for this post:

The backdrop dialogue will be italicized. (written in a font that slick and leans to the side.)

All jokes aside, here we go:

Person #1 is the informant.
Person #2 is the victim
Person #3 is the perpetrator

Although I will not disclose the context of each of my relationships with these three persons, I will simply state that I have known Person #1 since I was born. Persons #2 & #3, I have known since they were born. So let us begin.

Person #1 informed me that Person #2 had a significant emotional event. This event, admittedly, was simply a by product of a series of events and wrong choices that had occurred over Person #2's lifetime.

Ironically though, this event was transformational, because of one simple twist: He/She was asked if he/she was ever abused as a child. Person #2 had unknowingly, subconsciously suppressed the event; however, his/her answer was yes.

I applauded Person #2's courage of being able to be honest about the event. He/she has chosen not to go to the authorities or confront the Person #3, because the act involved others and Person #2 was uncertain as to the impact that full disclosure might have on them.

But my dilemma was trying to figure out how to deal with Person #3, because I, over the years have interacted with Person #3, over the years and had even received an invitation to have our families spend time together. I was totally open to reconnecting with Person #3, because I had no knowledge of this evil act that occurred many years ago.

Now that the details are out of the way, I can now address the topic of the post. My response consisted of the following steps.

1. Forgiveness - Everyone, to greater or lesser degrees and has hurt someone. An unforgiving heart does nothing but produce emotional super glue that binds you to a person that has already done enough damage and has long since forgotten about the pain that they've caused. Forgiveness frees you and empowers God ot render judgment, because you have chosen not to cast yours.

2. Disconnection - Forgiveness should never equal amnesia or stupidity. After having survived a traumatic event, whether it involves a loved one, co-worker or relative, it is now your responsibility to protect yourself and those for whom you are personally and emotionally responsible. If the cycle repeats itself, in your presence, then it is your fault, if you have prior knowledge of the pattern. And by the way, when it comes to sexual abuse, a pattern is defined by ONE event, not two or three. Cool? OK. In other words, no visits, Facebook, dinner invitations or sleepovers, if these settings are outside of your comfort zone.

3. Distance - If there is a funeral, family reunion, or a mandatory gathering for your employer, please use common sense. You don't have life your life under a self-imposed restraining order, unless you feel that the situation deems it necessary for you to conduct yourself in this manner. But, honestly, if it has gotten to this extreme, then the authorities probably should have been made aware of it by now anyway.

Well, I hope that this post has been helpful.

Workplace Etiquette - Daily Nugget #124

In the presence of gossip, there should only be three responses:

1. Choose to defend the person, being spoken about.
2. Choose to politely remove yourself from the conversation.
3. Choose to remain silent and continue working.

All of these options give you the ability to separate yourself from the discussion.

None of the options are more correct in the other.

The responses simply vary, based on the level of courage that one possesses.

Participants in negative conversation, fail to realize one common denominator that exists, within this type of dialogue:

"People who participate in gossip, need only be absent from the next conversation, before coming the topic of discussion." - Dr.W.D.

Good day, to each of you.

This message goes out to all the lovely people who are in a committed relationship.

I want to want to lay this down as tenderly and frankly as possible.

It takes much less energy to reinvest in what you've built than to contemplate the excitement of yielding to the temptation that is attached to something new.

Here's why.

A person who is willing to pursue you, with the knowledge that you are in a relationship (whether it is troubled or perfect), clearly shows no respect for the boundaries of commitment.

Hence, once you finally leave the love you've built, for something new. you may find that the new person will, still, not respect the boundaries of commitment. Make sense?

In essence, the person who cheats with you (physically or emotionally) will, inevitably, cheat on you.

So if you are thinking about leaving, think again.

Hold up!!!!!!!

I'd also like to issue a disclaimer: if you are leaving your current relationship, due to infidelity or abuse, then I will express two points.

If this is your circumstance, you have obviously been hurt, either physically or emotionally and my heart goes out to you. Here are the two points.

1. What is needed most, at this stage, is good counsel from someone who knows you, loves you, won't stroke you and will also be real with you, about you.

2. You need to allow yourself a good l2 months to heal. (This time frame will allow you to wald through every season of your life, by yourself, so that you are assured that you have passed the rebouding stage.)

I know that, personally, during cloudy times, I invest my energy in making what I've built with my wife, brand new.

I do it, not necessarily, because I always feel like doing it; but for two other reasons.

1. At the age of 42, I don't have the time to train somebody on what my likes and dislikes are. For the record, everybody is a mess, to some degree. But this is my mess. I use the term mess, for the sake of humor. Those who know my wife and I know that we are super happy, because we choose to be super happy. (Well, we were super happy at least eight times, because we are raising eight children.)

2. My wife is gorgeous and if I saw her, walking around, on someone's else's arm, I might have to................... well, you know.

Daily Nugget - Are you feelin' it?

If you have breathed oxygen on this planet for any length of time, there will be one revelation that will, eventually, become crystal clear to you:

Your feelings may overflow much less than they do, at other moments in your relationship.

This is normal.

But at about the same time that the 'gushiness' wears off, the commitment should kick in.

This is when we, as my mentor taught me, must act our way into the feeling, instead of waiting to feel our way into an action. Because, honestly, we may never get to the place of 'feeling' like loving that person.

In a nutshell, we must love the unlovable and know that it only takes one moment to shift us, from needing to show compassion to needing to receive it.

Daily Nugget - Sensitivity

Sensitivity is an awesome characteristic.

It can be either our greatest ally….or our worst enemy.

The outcome depends how we channel it.

Our sensitivity can:
1. Aid us by making us aware of the needs of others.

2. Equip us to make better decisions about relationships ,business ventures and even the conversations that we entertain.

3. Also be our enemy, when it is channeled inwardly. It can cause us to misinterpret the comments, intentions and motives of those around us. When sensitivity is coupled with focus on self, it can damage our self esteem, our view of others and plants seeds of insecurity.

In the grand scheme of things, we are better off focusing on how we can contribute to the well being of others, instead of focusing on ourselves. When this happens, we will that one of two scenarios will occur:

1. We become our own worst critics.

2. We may think we are better than others.

Both outcomes are unhealthy and untrue.

The moral of the story: we must be sensitive to, and focus on, others. As we do this continually, God will eventually begin to solve the issues that we may seem unsolveable.

There are 3 things we must consider about free samples:

1. The product is not in high demand. (common)
2. The samples are on display for all to see. (exposed)
3. They never cost much at all; as a matter of fact, they're normally free. (devalued)

In contrast, when you visit your local jeweler to view a diamond, there are also other characteristics that should be noted as well:

1. The diamonds are always behind glass (hidden) and under camera surveillance (protected)
2. The diamonds are never in plain sight and are of high value (priceless)
3. They are readily available to the general public or passers-by. (rare)
