Valentines Day - and Alone

Are you avoiding thinking of Valentines Day? Would you like to just avoid the day?

No matter what you are feeling, the day will come! Here are a few ideas of things you might do to make it a day you’ll remember with a smile, rather than wanting to forget!

1. Create a surprise for someone else. I like to do at least one thing anonymously - it must come from the days when I was growing up and our tradition was to make valentines and then put them on people’s doorsteps, ring the doorbell, and run! There’s something about the surprise element that makes it doubly fun!

2. Be real.Be honest. If the people around you want you to join in the festivities - and you would rather have a quiet evening at home, let them know. On the other hand, if you want to be with people, invite someone to join you and make an evening of it. It needn’t be expensive - just a rented DVD or a board game and some popcorn can make memories you’ll treasure forever!

3. Take a moment to count your blessings. You may not have the thing you want the very most - but you definitely have something to be grateful for. Acknowledging those things can chase the blues away and help you see that, in spite of tragedy, life goes on, and there can still be reasons to smile.

4. Think of something special you really want to do - and do it. Is there a movie you’ve been wanting to see? A ticket to the symphony or a play you’ve wanted to purchase? A piece of jewelry or article of clothing you have been waiting to buy? Life is meant to have some golden moments, and there’s nothing wrong with creating some for yourself. Choose a ‘treat’ - and indulge!

Amid our hope is found a real and evident power - it is the power to decide our fate. We are ones who walk a mighty line of wisdom, pure light, and vision. But with this line comes a responsibility to be and choose and allow the highest possible. We must face our light with respect. It is the light of all, revealed as One. We must honor our wisdom and use it to facilitate better outcomes for our fellowman. We are all in one journey, together. We must see with vision true and vast, that we all came as brave adventurers.

We are One, true and peaceful, in an array of experiences meant to challenge us and bring us closer to expansion. What does this mean for our daily lives? It means that we can harbor more patience with each other, that we can relieve suffering among our friends and neighbors. It means that we can give and receive in a bright flow of exchange. It means that when we make mistakes or missteps, we can forgive and let go, and allow others to forgive and let go. It means that you and I may seem different, but we are infinitely alike, and will be forever.

It means that we can be One, in truth, and still illuminate this world with our individual lights, talents, and gifts.

I have to say that I’ve gone through different phases in my life with regards to lingerie. In my 20’s my undergarments were amazing. I spent so much money at Victoria Secret and everything had to match, always. An ex of mine was from Europe and he couldn’t believe how inexpensive our lingerie was here in the US. Most European women put a lot of time, money and thought into their undergarments.

I do have to say that after being married for many years and being a mom that I allowed both my sleepwear and my lingerie to lose its pizzazz. I don’t know why or how this happened. It was slowly over time. As I was packing for a business trip I realized that I would be embarrassed for anyone to see my less than glamorous boudoir apparel.

The solution was to practice what I preach with my clients. I went through my under garments and sleepwear and threw away everything that no longer served me. Wow it was a lot. This forced me to purchase some new items that made me glamorous and sexy.

I had forgotten how great I feel lounging around my bedroom in some cute pajamas. I think I sleep better.

Are there Gender Differences in Body Language?

Often we are asked if there are gender differences in body language. In the past 20-30 years, the conventional perception was that in general, women are more communicative than men, both literally and with their body language. Today, the gap is blurry.

Women and men express the same body language positions, gestures and facial expressions, that’s why it’s called body language. It’s a matter of communication, if there were too many differences we couldn’t have called it ”language”.

It is very crucial to look at a cluster of gestures pointing at the same direction and not only at one gesture before coming to any conclusion, it’s as if we are listening to one word out of a whole sentence and assume we understand it.

Even today, in modern life, there are slight gender differences in the extent and duration of gestures, yet the distinction requires more training and experience than learning basic body language.

Examples of a slight gender differences in extent or duration of a particular gesture:

1. Everyone strokes their hair with their fingers – in women, the duration is slightly longer.

2. Men and women will both bite their lower lip in times of stress, lick their lips when sensing dry mouth or attraction, in women though it’s more observable because it is a bit more frequent and sustained.

3. Women are capable of tilting their head longer than men while listening to others, perhaps because they concentrate more on the verbal communication’s details which creates the whole picture. You can see an example of this situation when two men sit at a restaurant table, they usually will sit facing each other. Women, will often sit side by side.

4. Women and men blink frequently when they are interested in the conversation. With women it’s just more obvious and noticeable to the eye of the observer. It could be because of their makeup.

As I look at my journey over my past seven years of recovery, it has refined me in his love. This New Year's Eve I am grateful to be alive in his world of unfolding Grace. The definition of Grace is Unmerited Love of Man by GOD. This means YOU are unconditionally loved!

Often your life is filled with clutter... emotionally, physically and spritually. You are attached to things, due to your generational patterns or having mixed-up thoughts and always thinking you know. These are obstacles to listening, feeling and experiencing what is in front of you and what is available as joy. It is not the conditions in the world that weigh you down, as much as how you are meant to clean up your own life and have space for other than the repeated patterns of living.

Body language cards teach workers non-verbal cues that position them for hiring

Your body language during an interview may be revealing things to a potential boss that you didn't know. The interviewer's body language also can reveal what he/she is thinking. Learning how to use and read non-verbal cues can give job seekers a clear advantage over other contenders.

"Job seekers invest a lot in preparation for an interview: new clothes; perfect hair and nails; company research, and role playing the interview so they have all the right answers. But knowing how to use non-verbal cues and communication to build trust and confidence is just as important," said Gil Shermeister, behavioral zoologist that 12 years ago co-invented the Body Language Cards, a method used in the training of executives, sales forces and professional security personnel.

Shermeister's top six interview tips include:

1. When entering the interview, people tend to create an imaginary barrier to protect themselves by clutching a handbag or crossing their arms. To the interviewer this "says" insecurity. Keep an open body stance (no crossed arms or legs) and maintain eye contact.

2. Avoid making the upper hand handshake which indicates a need to dominate.

3. If interviewed by several people, always identify the decision-maker. This is the person others glance at when they are finished talking. Direct comments/replies to the decision-maker.

4. Under stress people instinctively tend to protect the main artery. In modern society it is manifested by touching the tie or playing with a necklace. Don't fidget with jewelry or garments in this way.

For training in a group, each participant receive a card and take turn to act out the gesture. The rest of the participants try to guess what the gesture mean, the participant with the card read the back of the card to the rest of the group. Added training: Ask participants what can be done to change the atmosphere if a certain gesture is exhibited during a sales meeting, a social meeting, at home, at work, at an interview, on a date, at a presentation, etc.

Body language is a mysterious and unspoken way people unconsciously communicate what is really on their mind and when many are either unsure of, or reluctant to openly communicate their intentions, relying on their body language could tell you what words do not say. Remember, body language by itself only tells part of the story you must blend it with the psychological level and behavioural style, and then attempt to get a better context reading. It must be taken in the context of the situation and prior relationship you have with the person, as well as the person’s behavior and culture style.

Having said that, here are few typical, well-known descriptions of certain types of behaviors you should be aware of to provide clues to what is on your interlocutor mind:

Honesty

· Open hands
· Leaning forward
· Taking coat off
· Moving closer
· Uncrossed legs
· Arms gently crossing lower body

Eagerness

· Small upper or inward smile
· Erect body stance
· Hands open, arms extended, eyes wide and alert
· Lively and bouncy voice, well-modulated

Defensiveness

· Minimal eye contact
· Rigid body
· Arms or legs crossed tightly
· Pursed lips
· Head down with chin depressed toward chest
· Fists clenched
· Fingers clenching crossed arms
· Leaning back in chair

Anger

· Fists clenched
· Body rigid
· Squinting of eyes
· Lips closed and held in a tight thin line
· Continued eye contact with dilation of pupils

Readiness

We are here to receive and to give - to ourselves, to our friends and family, and to those who cross our paths. We're here to make of this excursion a swift and steady lesson in humanity's propulsion toward eternal heights. And we're here to do it together. Isn't it amazing how all our lives we depend on others? Really, if we think about it, we depend on so many people for everything we have. We rely on the grocer for our food - he relies on the producer and packager for his products - and he relies on the farmers and ranchers. We rely on the doctor, the educator, the transportation engineer, the commentator, the politician, the researcher, the author, the artist, the musician, the restauranteur, the gardener, the business owner, the postal worker... and the list goes on. For all of these tasks which must be done, we rely on one another. And in a beautiful kaleidescope of activity and service, our lives are enriched and blessed beyond a single individual's efforts. For this purpose are we - the giver, the receiver - in an ever changing and evolving exchange of service, to lend whatever skills and talents we possess to contribute to humanity's benefit, and to receive whatever gifts of another's skills and talents for our benefit. We must rely on each other. We must cherish each other. We must honor and give thanks for each other. And we must SERVE. It is our highest position, ever.
