When it comes to preparing your home for summer, few upgrades make as much impact as bi-fold doors Manchester homeowners are choosing to transform their living spaces. Over the past decade, indoor-outdoor living has grown significantly in popularity across the UK, with Houzz reporting that opening up the rear of the home to the garden remains one of the most desired renovation features (Houzz UK Renovation Trends Study). It’s easy to see why.

Bi-fold doors neatly fold back to open up an entire wall, creating seamless transitions between your home and garden. Whether you’re in Urmston, Sale, Altrincham or Didsbury, this kind of home transformation turns patios into extensions of your kitchen, and lawns into part of your living space. It’s not just about aesthetics – it’s about creating a more sociable, family-friendly space that works beautifully for everyday life and those special summer gatherings.

Benefits of seamless indoor-outdoor living

One of the biggest advantages of installing bi-fold doors is the sense of space they create. By removing the visual barrier between inside and out, you instantly achieve a more open and spacious home design. Even when closed, large glazed panels frame your garden and draw the eye outward, making rooms feel larger and more connected to nature.

For summer gatherings and outdoor entertaining, they’re a game changer. Hosting friends for a barbecue or celebrating a family milestone becomes effortless when guests can move freely between kitchen, dining area and garden. There’s no bottleneck at a single back door – just a wide, welcoming opening that encourages everyone to relax and enjoy the occasion.

Natural light is another major benefit. According to the Energy Saving Trust, around 18% of a home’s heat loss occurs through windows and glazed doors, which is why modern energy-efficient glazing is so important. Today’s double glazed bi-fold systems are designed to maximise natural light while maintaining excellent thermal performance. The result? Bright, airy rooms in summer and comfort all year round, without compromising on efficiency.

Choosing the right bi-fold doors

Selecting the right system for your home is key. uPVC options are cost-effective, low maintenance and offer impressive insulation, making them a popular choice for reliable home upgrades. Aluminium, on the other hand, provides slimmer sightlines and a sleek, contemporary finish – ideal for modern conservatories, home extensions or more architectural projects.

Energy efficiency should never be overlooked. High-quality double glazing, warm edge spacer bars and secure sealing systems all play a role in keeping your home comfortable. With energy prices still a concern for many households, choosing well-rated glazing can make a meaningful difference over time.

Design flexibility is another advantage. From colour finishes to hardware and opening configurations, there are plenty of stylish door options available. Whether your property is a period terrace in Chorlton or a newer build in Stretford, custom design solutions ensure your new doors complement your existing uPVC windows and doors and enhance your overall home improvement project.

Installation process and craftsmanship

Even the best product will only perform as well as its installation. That’s why professional craftsmanship matters. As a family-run business with over 30 years of experience and more than 30,000 happy customers, we believe in doing things properly.

We don’t use subcontractors – we’re not that sort of company. Our in-house skilled installers take pride in their work, paying close attention to structural integrity, alignment and finishing details. This ensures smooth operation, long-term durability and optimal energy performance.

For complete peace of mind, every installation is backed by our 10-year insurance backed guarantee. We believe in honest advice, no hyped up deals and building long-term relationships with our customers across Manchester. It’s a straightforward approach that’s earned us glowing reviews and trusted local installer status.

Maintenance tips for bi-fold doors

Keeping your bi-fold doors in top condition doesn’t require much effort, but a little regular care goes a long way. Clean the glass and frames with warm soapy water and a soft cloth to maintain their appearance and ensure maximum natural light.

It’s also wise to check tracks and rollers periodically, removing any debris to keep the doors gliding smoothly. Inspect seals for signs of wear to maintain energy efficiency and weather resistance.

Before winter sets in, ensure drainage channels are clear and mechanisms are lightly lubricated. These small steps help prevent issues during colder months and protect your investment for years to come.

Conclusion

There’s a reason bi-fold doors Manchester homeowners love continue to rise in popularity. They create brighter, more spacious interiors, make summer gatherings effortless and deliver a true indoor-outdoor living experience that transforms the way you use your home.

It’s about creating a bright, comfortable outdoor living space that feels just right on warm days and long evenings. As a family-run business with over 30 years’ experience and more than 30,000 happy customers across Manchester, we know that the right design decisions early on make all the difference to your summer enjoyment.

If you’re considering a new home extension, here are our honest, practical tips to help you select the best conservatory style summer comfort depends on.

1. Consider your home’s architecture

Your conservatory should feel like a natural continuation of your home, not an afterthought. Matching the architectural design of the conservatory to your existing property is key, whether you live in a modern build in Sale or a period home in Didsbury.

Traditional conservatory styles such as Victorian and Edwardian designs suit older properties beautifully, with elegant rooflines and classic detailing. A lean-to style, on the other hand, often complements contemporary design with its clean lines and minimalist appearance. Getting this balance right ensures your stylish conservatory enhances kerb appeal while maintaining a effortless garden connection.

We always take the time to understand your home’s character. We’re not about hyped-up deals or pushing a one-size-fits-all solution — we care about long-term relationships and making sure your investment genuinely improves your home.

2. Assess your space and sunlight exposure

Before deciding on the best conservatory style summer living requires, carefully assess the available space. Accurate measurements help ensure your new home extension fits comfortably without overwhelming your garden or existing layout.

Sunlight exposure is equally important. South-facing conservatories enjoy abundant natural light but may require additional sun protection to manage heat. North-facing designs tend to be cooler and may benefit from enhanced insulation properties. Observing how the sun moves across your garden during the day will help determine the optimal orientation for warmth and light.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, thoughtful design and positioning can significantly reduce unwanted heat gain and heat loss, improving overall energy efficiency. A well-positioned conservatory will feel bright and welcoming rather than overly hot or uncomfortably shaded.

3. Choose energy-efficient materials

Material choice plays a huge role in comfort. Modern uPVC conservatories are a popular option for good reason. They offer durability, low maintenance and strong insulation properties, helping to regulate internal temperatures.

High-quality double glazing is essential. The Energy Saving Trust reports that A-rated double glazed windows can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 70% compared to single glazing. In summer, this improved construction quality also helps reduce excessive heat build-up, especially when combined with solar-control glass.

Energy efficiency isn’t just about saving on bills — it’s about creating comfortable outdoor areas you can genuinely use throughout the season. With the right materials, the best conservatory style summer performance becomes effortless rather than something you constantly manage.

4. Incorporate ventilation solutions

Even the most energy-efficient conservatory needs proper airflow. Effective ventilation solutions are essential for temperature control during warmer months.

Opening windows, trickle vents and strategically placed side frames all encourage cross-ventilation. A roof vent system is particularly effective, allowing hot air — which naturally rises — to escape. This simple addition can dramatically improve comfort levels on hot days.

If you’re planning to include bi-fold doors, they can also enhance airflow while strengthening the connection between your conservatory and garden. Fully opened, they transform the space into a true outdoor living area, perfect for entertaining or relaxing with family.

5. Think about additional features and accessories

Finishing touches make all the difference. Blinds and shades provide practical sun protection while adding a decorative element. Pergolas or external shading systems can further reduce glare and overheating.

When furnishing your conservatory, choose pieces designed for summer conditions — breathable fabrics, UV-resistant materials and versatile layouts that adapt from daytime lounging to evening dining. Thoughtful choices turn a simple glazed room into one of the most comfortable outdoor areas in your home.

As a family-run company, we use only our own skilled, in-house installers — no subcontractors — and every installation comes with a 10-year insurance backed guarantee. We believe honesty and craftsmanship matter, and our glowing reviews reflect that commitment.

The way your windows are positioned, styled and installed directly affects how fresh air moves through your property. Done properly, it improves indoor air quality, supports energy efficiency and makes everyday living more pleasant for you and your family.

As a family-run business with over 30 years’ experience and more than 30,000 happy customers across Manchester and the surrounding suburbs, we’ve seen first-hand how the right approach to window design can completely transform a home. And we’re not about hyped-up deals or quick fixes – just honest advice, quality products and long-term results.

Understanding ventilation and window design

Good ventilation is essential for maintaining healthy indoor air quality and consistent home comfort. According to the UK Health Security Agency, poor ventilation can lead to a build-up of moisture and indoor pollutants, increasing the risk of damp, mould and respiratory issues. In modern, well-insulated homes, where drafts are minimised, controlled airflow becomes even more important.

This is where thoughtful window design makes all the difference. The size, opening style and window placement within a room influence how effectively fresh air circulation occurs. Well-designed openings encourage natural airflow, remove stale air and help regulate internal temperatures without sacrificing security or thermal efficiency.

Benefits of natural ventilation

Natural ventilation reduces the need for artificial cooling systems and can lessen reliance on heating by helping to regulate indoor temperatures more evenly. The Energy Saving Trust highlights that improving insulation and ventilation together is key to maintaining energy efficiency in UK homes. By allowing fresh air to flow naturally, you create a more balanced indoor environment while potentially reducing energy bills.

It also plays a crucial role in mould prevention. Excess moisture from cooking, showering and everyday living needs an escape route. Without adequate airflow, condensation settles on cooler surfaces, leading to damp patches and mould growth. By improving ventilation and window design, you actively promote a healthier living space for your household.

Types of windows that enhance ventilation

Different uPVC window styles offer varying levels of airflow, and choosing the right one depends on how each room is used.

Casement windows are one of the most effective options for maximising airflow. Hinged at the side, they open fully outwards, acting almost like a sail to catch passing breezes and direct them indoors. This makes them ideal for kitchens and living areas where removing warm or humid air quickly is important.

Sliding sash windows, a popular choice for both period and contemporary homes, allow controlled ventilation. By opening both the top and bottom sashes slightly, you encourage warm air to escape through the top while cooler air enters from below, naturally supporting air circulation without dramatic drafts. They also maintain home aesthetics, particularly in traditional properties across areas like Altrincham, Didsbury and Sale.

Choosing the right window designs

Selecting the right window designs involves more than just appearance. The size of the opening, the orientation of the room and how you use the space all matter. South-facing rooms may benefit from openings that allow heat to escape in summer, while bathrooms and kitchens require efficient moisture control.

Double-glazed windows are particularly important here. Modern double glazing significantly improves thermal efficiency by reducing heat loss, while still allowing you to enjoy the benefits of natural airflow when windows are open. When designed correctly, ventilation and window design work hand in hand — you don’t have to choose between warmth and fresh air.

We also offer custom window solutions tailored to your property, whether you live in a modern build or a character home. It’s about getting the balance right between performance, practicality and style.

Tips for optimising ventilation at home

One of the simplest and most effective strategies is encouraging cross-ventilation. By opening windows on opposite sides of your home, you create a pathway for air to travel through the property, maximising airflow and quickly refreshing internal spaces.

Trickle vents or discreet window vents are another valuable feature. These allow a steady level of background ventilation even when your windows are closed and locked, helping to maintain indoor air quality without compromising security or comfort during colder months.

When it comes to creating a cohesive and beautiful home exterior, choosing the right style of doors is more important than many homeowners realise. From enhancing your property’s visual appeal to improving insulation and security, the right fit matters both stylistically and functionally. If you’re considering new doors and are searching for composite doors Manchester, you’ll want options that don’t just look the part but perform exceptionally well too.

Importance of door style in home design

Your front door is often one of the first elements people notice about your home, setting the tone for its overall aesthetic and providing insight into what lies within. A well-chosen door style enhances the curb appeal of your property, helping it feel more welcoming and increasing its value too. In fact, research from the HomeOwners Alliance suggests that updating your front door can add between 2% to 5% to your home's market value.

Beyond appearances, door style also impacts day-to-day functionality and long-term security. Some styles are better suited to wider entrances, while others work beautifully on traditional facades. Security is not just about robust locks—though that’s a critical element—but also about good design, material integrity and expert installation. Choosing the right door isn't simply a design decision—it's a lifestyle one too.

Exploring composite doors

For a combination of robust performance and stunning design, composite doors are a clear front-runner. CompDoor composite doors, in particular, offer an outstanding balance of timeless aesthetics and modern technology. Each door features a 48mm solid timber core wrapped in durable layers to protect against the unpredictable British climate. Whether your home leans towards contemporary minimalism or embraces vintage aesthetics, CompDoors are crafted to suit a wide range of door styles and home architecture.

What’s especially reassuring is their commitment to high security. Every CompDoor composite door comes fitted with a 3* ABS Cylinder – one of the most highly regarded locks on the market. These locks are not only PAS 24 certified, but also recognised by the Police Crime Prevention Initiative and rated ‘Sold Secure Diamond’ by the Master Locksmiths Association.

Whether you're updating your home or undertaking a renovation, looking into composite doors Manchester can lead you to some of the highest performing and most secure doors available today.

Aluminium entrance doors: a modern solution

Not everyone leans towards the traditional look, and for those after sleek lines and a modern finish, aluminium entrance doors present an ideal option. Exceptionally durable and low maintenance, aluminium doors resist warping, fading and rusting—perfect for the changing Manchester weather.

Thermally broken aluminium frames are a game-changer for anyone wanting high energy efficiency from a residential door. We offer a wide array of customisation options, including full or part glazed panels, bold or subtle colours, and even intricate leaded glass configurations. Beyond design, these modern doors hold their own in security, featuring PAS 24 approved locks and solid construction that means business when it comes to keeping intruders out.

Thermal performance benefits

Energy efficiency isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity for most British households. With energy prices remaining unstable, improving your home’s insulation can spell significant monthly savings. CompDoor composite doors not only boast strong build quality but also exceed building regulations for thermal performance.

The difference is noticeable—less heat loss, fewer draughts, and more consistent indoor temperatures throughout the year. This is especially valuable during those cold, damp months when comfort and warmth become top priorities. Insulated doors like these can help reduce energy consumption and, subsequently, your utility bills.

A recent study from The Energy Saving Trust shows that upgrading to energy-efficient external doors can save the average detached homeowner up to £75 a year on heating costs. Pair that with the security and longevity of composite doors Manchester and it becomes a sound investment for the future.

Professional installation matters

No matter how well a door is designed, it can only perform to its full potential when installed correctly. That’s why at The Window Company, we never subcontract. All installations are carried out by our in-house team of skilled professionals, ensuring every project meets our high standards from start to finish.

Every door is installed with precision and backed by a 10-year insurance-protected guarantee, giving our customers peace of mind long after the job is done.

We know how important it is for your new door to perform—all while enhancing your home’s character and improving security. That’s why we make sure every fit is seamless, secure, and styled just the way you envisioned. Quality installation isn’t just our promise—it’s our standard.

When it comes to balancing beauty, performance, and peace of mind, why settle for less? Isn’t it time your home had the entrance it deserves?

Victoria Park Cafe is far more than just somewhere to grab a brew. It is a welcoming hub within the park that supports local people, families, and community groups, providing a safe, friendly place to meet, volunteer, and connect. The café plays a vital role in keeping the wider community spirit alive in the park.

Shelly has taken on the challenge of fundraising to help support the café and its future, ensuring it can continue to serve the local area for years to come. At the time of writing, the JustGiving page is closing in on its target, with around £8,000 already raised, which is a fantastic achievement and a real reflection of how valued this place is.

Through the programme, we recycle old windows and doors removed from customers’ homes and turn that into funding that can be reinvested back into our local community.

Being able to support projects that make a genuine difference locally is something we care deeply about, and Victoria Park Café is a perfect example of a community asset worth backing.

A huge well done to Shelly and everyone who has donated so far. It is inspiring to see what can be achieved when a community comes together for a great cause.

If you would like to learn more about our Recycle & Reward programme, or know of a local project that could benefit from support, please get in touch.
The benefits of double glazing for home insulation

When it comes to enhancing your home’s insulation, few solutions are as effective as double glazing. For homeowners in search of better thermal efficiency, double glazing has become a trusted choice. Compared to traditional single glazing, double glazed windows can reduce heat loss by up to 50%—dramatically improving the thermal barrier between your home and the elements.

Better insulation doesn’t just mean staying warmer in the winter. It also means maintaining a consistent indoor temperature year-round, so you’re not reaching for the thermostat every time the weather shifts. That translates to greater home comfort and reduced energy usage, benefitting both your budget and the environment.

Enhancing comfort with double glazing

Comfort at home isn’t only about temperature—it’s about peace, quiet, and overall wellbeing. One of the lesser-known yet highly appreciated double glazing benefits is how effectively it minimises external noise. Whether you live in a busy part of Manchester or simply want more tranquillity in your living spaces, double glazing helps create a quieter, more relaxing environment.

Another valuable comfort-related advantage is the prevention of condensation. By stopping internal glass surfaces from becoming colder than the indoor air, double glazing helps prevent the build-up of moisture. This significantly reduces the risk of damp patches, peeling paint, or even mould—common problems in older homes with inferior glazing.

Energy savings and cost-effectiveness

For many homeowners, one of the most immediate advantages of installing double glazing is the potential for energy savings. With better insulation, your home retains heat more effectively, meaning your central heating system doesn’t have to work as hard to keep you warm. In fact, energy-effi

cient windows can reduce heating bills by up to 20%, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

Over time, these savings add up—helping you recoup the initial installation cost more quickly than you might expect. When you factor in the robust longevity of modern uPVC windows and the ten-year guarantee offered by many installers (including us), double glazing is a long-term investment that continues to give back.

Double glazing doesn’t just improve how your home performs—it also enhances how it looks. At The Window Company, we offer a wide variety of window styles designed to suit both period properties and modern homes across Greater Manchester. From classic casement windows to traditional sash and mock sash options, custom window designs allow you to preserve your home’s unique character while enjoying 21st-century performance.

Homeowners can also choose from a rich palette of colours and finishes, giving you the flexibility to match your new windows with your existing brickwork, render, or cladding. It's a subtle but impactful way to boost kerb appeal and even contribute to property value enhancement.

The importance of professional installation

That’s why we never farm out our work—we rely entirely on our own in-house team of skilled craftsmen. With decades of experience and long-standing ties to the local community, we ensure every installation meets the highest standards for both functionality and finish.

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re thrilled to share a look back at where we’ve been working across Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas this year. The map above shows every area we’ve installed windows, doors and conservatories, with the red areas showing our busiest neighbourhoods and the green areas spreading out further across the region. From our longstanding core towns through to places we have worked this year, it’s been another record‑breaking 12 months for The Window Co.

This year we’ve installed over £3.5 million worth of windows, doors and conservatories for homeowners throughout Greater Manchester. From simple window replacements to full‑house installations and large conservatories, our teams have been extremely busy delivering quality and care to homes locally and further afield.

Where We Have Worked

Our heat map highlights the areas where we’ve been busiest in 2025. Much of our work continues to centre around Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Chorlton and Urmston, where we’ve installed hundreds of products across hundreds of homes.
We’ve also completed jobs further out into Stockport, Cheadle and Wilmslow, across to Eccles and Prestwich, and out north towards Rochdale. Every shaded area on the map represents a street we’ve worked on and a customer who trusted us with their home improvements.
Whether it was a new front door in Sale, a set of elegant aluminium windows in Altrincham, premium doors in Stretford, or a bespoke conservatory in Urmston, our teams have been on the road throughout the year bringing quality installations to all corners of the map.

Our Most Popular Products Installed in 2025

Recycle & Reward — Making Windows Work for the Community

At The Window Co, we believe home improvements should do more than just transform houses — they should give back to the communities we serve. Through our Recycle & Reward initiative, we recycle old windows instead of sending them to landfill, turning the value into funds for local causes. We’re committed to donating at least £10,000 back into the local community each year, supporting grassroots sports teams, charities, community groups and schools across Greater Manchester. If you’re interested in how this works or want to nominate a group to benefit, check out our Recycle & Reward page.

Why This Matters

Just like our 2024 year in numbers review, this map is not simply about where we’ve been, but who we’ve been working with. Each job is a homeowner choosing a local company with experience, integrity and a reputation they can trust. A strong local presence means that in 2025 more than ever our neighbours have been choosing The Window Co for their home improvements.
All work installed this year has been fitted by our own in‑house teams, without subcontractors, and backed by our customer care. That is the difference our customers keep coming back for.

Thank You

Thank you to every customer who chose us this year. Your trust in our windows, doors and conservatories is why we have been able to achieve such strong coverage across Greater Manchester.
We are already looking forward to another big year in 2026, continuing to serve our local communities with quality products, expert fitting and the care that sets us apart.
Here’s to another great year on the road and on the map.
Happy New Year from everyone at The Window Co!

Brooklands CC is a fantastic local club with a strong community spirit, and we’re proud to be able to support them as they head into the season ahead. Grassroots sports clubs like this play a huge role in bringing people together, encouraging participation, and keeping local sport thriving.

At The Window Company, we believe that doing good business should also mean doing good locally. That’s why we’re so proud of our Recycle & Reward Programme and the positive impact it’s having right here in Sale.

Recently, through the programme, we donated £500 to support the Star Track children’s summer camp – a brilliant local initiative that’s been running for many years and does an amazing job for families in the area.

What is Star Track?

Star Track is a summer holiday camp run by volunteers from Sale Harriers Manchester, giving local children a fun, active way to spend the school holidays. The camp is based around an Olympics-style format, with children split into teams or “countries”, complete with flags.

Over the course of the camp, the kids take part in running and a variety of fun sporting events, all building up to a final day with a ceremony, results, and prizes. Win or lose, the most important thing is that every child gets involved and has a great time.

Turning Recycling into Real Impact

Our Recycle & Reward Programme allows us to recycle old windows and doors instead of sending them to landfill. The money raised is then put back into the local community – supporting initiatives like Star Track that encourage children to stay active, build confidence, and have fun during the summer holidays.

Knowing that recycling materials from our installations can help fund something so positive is something we’re genuinely proud of.

Proud to Support Our Community

Star Track is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local businesses and volunteers work together. We’re delighted that The Window Company could play a small part in supporting a long-standing community project that continues to make a real difference in Sale.
