The Wog and The Doodle had the chance to "march" in the local parade in support of the MWV Children's Museum. We had a blast! The Wog and I bedecked our bikes, cars, helmets, etc. and were on our way!

The Wog rode her bike the entire parade without complaint (well, complaining only when she ran out of candy to throw) but she hitched a ride afterwards with her brother.

These beautiful pictures of The Wog and her dance friends were taken by Jay Philbrick, the photographer who took one of our absolute most favorite pictures of The Wog when she was a baby.

She still is enchanted by bubbles. I think/hope she probably always will be.

WOGATHON, DOODLEATHON AND BIKEATHON

The Wog and The Doodle participated in a family bike-a-thon this weekend in support of raising funds and building awareness for a local bike path project here in the MWV. (Awesome, right? Fingers crossed!) The organization set up an obstacle course and had information bike safety, gear, etc. There was also a bike decorating table, a parade led by a cycling police officer, and an ice cream social.

The Wog gets a hand onto the course from Daddy and Una:

As usual, The Doodle meant business.

(He was the only kid on a trike, and so intense about the whole thing that he became something of a celebrity--everyone wanted his picture!)

Bike safety is SERIOUS!

The ramps were not particular tricycle accessible, but it didn't stop The Doodle from trying. His pal Cooper one plank over had it down on his Strider.

The Doodle valiantly held up the back of the back. Occasionally the riders would circle around and "lap" him. He'd calmly turn himself around and resume a place at the front of the line:

A 3-year-old and his trains:

Marc yelled, "Pizza is here!" and The Doodle took off! He was moving so fast I'm surprised the camera didn't capture a grey blur. Baby Andrew was hot on his heels!

They all settled into eating quickly.

The Doodle opened his presents like a pro. He was genuinely delighted by each one and said an enthusiastic "thank you." And every time he was surprised to be getting another!

TRUCKS AND TEA

On Sunday The Wog and I attended the local rec department's annual Mother Daughter Tea. It featured ballet performances, the "Voice of the Valley" champion, and various "fancy" things perfect for little girls. And their mothers:) The Wog loved her twirly skirt, and showed it off on the dance floor. She curtsied with no prompting:

The Doodle was not invited to the tea; he wouldn't have enjoyed it much! However, he did enjoy a suitable dose of truck touching. They touched busses, ambulances, various utilities trucks, and antique cars. The Doodle's favorite was the "mement mixer." MOre pictures of this event to come--they are on Marc's iphone.

This song was very challenging for The Wog and her friends, because it was a round. She is very proud of their success!

This song caused The Wog no small amount of anguish on the second night of play practice. We heard her moving around upstairs in her room, and then the signature clank of the gate, followed by shuffling feet and sobs. As Marc took her back upstairs, the hysteria escalated as she explained about this song (the first we'd heard of it) and how a poor kitty gets taken from his mother and kidnapped by a gnome. She then paused before warbling in her sobbiest, most high-pitched voice, "And I don't even know what a gnome is!"

A tentative script was sent home with The Wog on the first day of camp; she told me it had changed, but since we never saw another, the entire play was pretty much a surprise. (Considering The Wog NEVER stops talking, she is shockingly non-forthcoming about things I actually inquire about.) I was surprised and delighted when the curtain rose on the first scene, to see The Wog standing on stage...and then delivering the very first line of the play!

(I don't think she even knows who the Jonas Brothers are, but definitely an improvement on the line in the initial script about "Brattany Spires.")

The Wog and her friends worked very hard this spring break week in a "Children's Musical Stage Workshop" put on by a local organization, Arts in Motion. They learned all of this in exactly one week, and performed the results on Friday afternoon following the last day of camp. The Wog loved the experience, and put all of her heart and soul into it. (Which, I think, is clear in her face every time she reaches for the "e-brate" part of the song.) It was an exhausting, educational and fully entertaining week for all of these kids--ranging in age from 4.5 (The Wog's friend, Morgan) to about 15. I have a bunch more clips to organize and download, but here's one of her and her fellow townspeople celebrating a queen's change of heart!

The Wog attended a very special birthday party over the weekend for Boyfriend #1 (there are three, and there is a hierarchy) over the weekend. The party was held at the local fire station, and the kids even got to go on rides around the town! The Doodle remains a big fan of the wee-noos, but alas was in school during the party. Luckily, he doesn't know what he missed! Happy Birthday, Finn!

The whole gang! The Wog was the only girl in attendance, but was unfazed.

The best place to burn candles? At a fire station, of course!

The kids all took turns on this swing. When it was The Wog's turn, the boys gallantly helped her get on:

To say The Wog does not enjoy having her hair brushed is an understatement. A hairdresser recently recommended that sleeping in braids would help ease the tangled mess she wakes up with every morning. She wore "Culture Club" braids (in the words of Miss Suzie) for a day and this is the look we discovered when the braids came out!

Doesn't she look excited? This is because she is headed off, as she told me, to a playdate at "one of [her] three boyfriend's houses."

We are still catching up from Christmas but so much has been happening since then I'll skip ahead. Mainly, The Doodle started school!
