Ahmedabad was rattled with two tremors felt one after the other lasting almost 7 to 8 seconds on a usual Tuesday afternoon.

The magnitude of these tremors is not yet known, but it's apparent from the hundreds of people that are rushing out of my office building that it was nothing small or insignificant!

Epicientre was the India-Pak border.

Tremors were also felt in Jaipur and Delhi.

No reports of loss of life or damage to property has been reported till 4:55 pm.

The Cockroach Theory - Response Vs Reaction

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady. She started screaming out of fear. With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.

In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.

When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?

He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story:

I understood, I should not react in life.

I should always respond.

The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of, just and right to save a situation from going out of hand, to avoid cracks in relationship, to avoid taking decisions in anger, anxiety, stress or hurry.

What can I do alone? I am just one among 1.2 billion. Even if I change what good will it do. What about the rest? Who will change everyone? First get everyone else to change then I too will change. These are some of the most negative thoughts I have heard resonating all through my life. The story of Dhashrat Manjhi is a fitting reply to all these statements. It tells us what one man can achieve. It tells us about the power of one. It tells us that man can indeed move mountains.

Gehlor a small village in Bihar was surrounded by rocky mountains. The villagers had to travel more than 50 kilometers to reach the nearest town which was in fact 5 kilometers away, but the path was blocked by a tall mountain. The presence of this rocky mountain plagued the lives of the villagers of Gehlor for decades. One of them, Dashrath Manjhi, decided one day that he would cut a pass through the mountain. He sold his goats, bought a hammer and a chisel, and started hammering away at the mountain. Everyone laughed at him. They ridiculed him, dissuaded him, told him it was not possible. He refused to be swayed and kept at it. It took him 22 years to cut a road though the mountain but he did it.

For a moment let us imagine what he must have gone through on day one of his attempt. One man with a hammer and a chisel against the mountain! How many cubic inches of rock could he have broken on the first day? What did he feel while walking back home that evening? How far did he get at the end of week one? What were his thoughts then? No doubt the task would have seem even more impossible at the end of the first week. What did he feel when people made fun of him and discouraged him? What kept him going for 22 long years?

What you and I have to decide is, do we want to be like Dashrath Manjhi, or do we want to be like the villagers who tried to dissuade him? And there is a clear choice before us. What he was attempting to do was for everyone's benefit. Still instead of joining him, his own fellow villagers made fun of him. So, should we be like those villagers or should we live our life like Dashrath Manjhi, who, with single-minded determination continued to do what he believed he in. Each of us has to ask ourselves this question, and in our answer lies the reality of our future. In our answer lies the answer to the following question as well - Do I want to contribute to nation building? Do I want to be a believer or do I want to be a critic? Do I want to follow my dreams relentlessly and without compromise, or do I want to be a cynical, discouraging naysayer.

I believe....

I believe in India. I believe in the people of India. I believe that each and every Indian loves his/her country. I believe that India is changing. I believe that India wants to change. I believe in the dream that our forefathers saw when they fought for Independence. A dream that they wrote down in the preamble to our constitution.

There are many who say that this dream is dead, but I don't agree. While it is true that it has not been achieved, it is equally true that it is not entirely dead. Even today there are thousands of Indians who live by this dream. Many have spent their lives upholding this dream. Most of them are perhaps not even aware that in living their lives in the way that they are, they are upholding the constitution of India, the dream that our forefathers saw.

I think somewhere too many of us have become a little too clever, a little too practical, a little too cynical, a little too materialistic, a little too selfish. Maybe, we need to let go a little. Allow a little space in our hearts for hope, for idealism, for belief, for faith, for trust, for innocence and... for a little madness. If one Dashrath Manjhi can move a mountain, imagine what a 120 crore Dashrath Manjhi can do.

My journey of Satyamev Jayate is coming to an end. But I would like to believe that this is not the end, but is, in fact, a beginning. And in this hope filled moment of a beginning, I would like to bow my head in a prayer that was first expressed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore:

Religion has been missing one very fundamental quality: sense of humour. It has been unfortunate because it has made religion sick.

Sense of humour is an essential part of the wholeness of man. It keeps us healthy, young, and fresh. For centuries, sad people have dominated religion. They have expelled laughter — from churches, mosques, and from temples. The day laughter enters back into holy places, they will be really holy, because they will be whole. Laughter is the only quality that distinguishes us from other animals. Only humans can see the ridiculous, the absurd. Only we have the capacity and consciousness to be aware of the cosmic joke that existence is. Existence is a cosmic joke; it is not a serious affair.

Seriousness Is A Disease
Seriousness is a disease, but seriousness has been praised, respected, honoured. It was absolutely essential to be serious to be a saint; hence, only pathological people became interested in religion, people who were incapable of laughter.

And people who are incapable of laughter are subhuman, they are not human yet — what to say about their being Divine? That is impossible — they have not yet become human. And to be human is the bridge between the animal and the Divine. Hence, I have tremendous respect for the sense of humour, for laughter.

Laughter is far more sacred than prayer, because prayer can be done by any person; it does not require much intelligence. Laughter requires intelligence, it requires presence of mind, a quickness of seeing into things. A joke cannot be explained: either you understand it or you miss it. If it is explained, it loses the whole point; hence no joke can be explained. If you don’t get it immediately then you can try to find out the meaning of it; you will find out the meaning, but the joke will not be there. It was in the immediacy.

Humour needs presence, utter presence. It is not a question of analysis; it is a question of insight.

Glimpse Of Egolessness
To be able to laugh, you need to be like a child — egoless. And when you laugh, suddenly laughter is there, you are not. You come back when the laughter is gone. When the laughter is disappearing far away, when it is subsiding, you come back, the ego comes back. But in the very moment of laughter, you have a glimpse of egolessness.

There are only two activities in which you can feel egolessness easily. One is laughter, another is dancing. Dancing is a physiological method, a bodily method to feel egolessness. When the dancer is lost in his dance, he is no more — there is only dance.

Laughter is a little more subtle than dance, it is a little more inner, but it has also the same fragrance. When you laugh...it has to be belly laughter.
Laugh so that your whole body, your whole being becomes involved, and suddenly there will be a glimpse. We seemed to have lost our bearing & our sense of direction.

**Story of Appreciation**

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked,
"Did you obtain any scholarships in school?"
the youth answered "none".

The director asked,
" Was it your father who paid for your school fees?"
The youth answered,
"My father passed away, when I was one year old, it was my mother, who paid for my school fees.

The director asked,
" Where did your mother work?"
The youth answered,
"My mother worked as clothes cleaner.
The director requested the youth to show his hands.
The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked,
" Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?"
The youth answered,
"Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books.
Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me.

The director said,
"I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.*

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother's hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes, asked:
"Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered,
"I cleaned my mother's hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes'

The Director asked,
"please tell me your feelings."

The youth said,

Number 1,
I know now what appreciation means.. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today.

Number 2,
by working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done.

Number 3,
I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said,
" This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company's performance improved tremendously.

A child, who has been protected and habitually given whatever he wanted, would develop"entitlement mentality" and would always put himself first. He would be ignorant of his parent's efforts.

When he starts work, he assumes that every person must listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the sufferings of his employees and would always blame others.

For this kind of people, who may be good academically, may be successful for a while, but eventually would not feel sense of achievement.

He will grumble and be full of hatred and fight for more. If we are this kind of protective parents, are we really showing love or are we destroying the kid instead?*

You can let your kid live in a big house, give him a Driver & Car for going around, Eat a Good Meal, learn Piano, Watch a Big Screen TV. But when you are Cutting Grass, please let them experience it. After a Meal, let them Wash their Plates and Bowls together with their Brothers and Sisters. Tell them to Travel in Public Bus, It is not because you do not have Money for Car or to Hire a Maid, but it is because you want to Love them in a right way. You want them to understand, no matter how rich their parents are, one day their hair will Grow Grey, same as the Mother of that young person. The most important thing is your kid learns how to appreciate the effort and experience the difficulty and learns the ability to work with others to get things done.

The priest and the natives!

A Priest was about to finish his tour of duty in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives to be civilized and kind to each other when he realizes that the one thing he never taught them was how to speak English.

So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and says to the chief, "This is a tree."

The chief looks at the tree and grunts, "Tree."

The Priest is pleased with the response.
They walk a little further and he points to a rock and says, "This is a rock."

Hearing this, the chief looks and grunts, "Rock."

The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears a rustling in the bushes. As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity.

The Priest is really flustered and quickly responds, "Man riding a bike."

The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them both..

The Painting

There was a king who was a great admirer of art. He encouraged artists from all over his country and gave them valuable gifts.

One day an artist came and said to the king, "Oh King! Give me a blank wall in your palace and let me paint a picture on it. It will be more beautiful than anything you have ever seen before. I promise you shall not be disappointed." Now, the king happened to be constructing a big hall at the rear end of the palace. So he said, "All right you may work on one of the walls in the new hall."

So the artist was given the job and he was very pleased indeed. Just then, another young man said, "Oh King! Please allow me to work on the opposite wall. I too am an artist."

The king said, "What would you like to make?"

The man said, "My Lord, I shall make exactly what that man will make on the opposite wall. Moreover, I shall do so, without looking at his work. I would even request you to have a thick curtain put up between the two walls so that either of us cannot see the other." Now, that was a tall statement. Everyone in the king's court, including the king and the first artist were intrigued. But the king loved surprises and he decided to give the young fellow a chance.The following day a thick curtain was put into place and both the artists got to work. The first artist brought in a regular supply of paint, oil, water etc. The second one would come with a cloth and a bucket of water every day.

After a month the first artist told the king that his work was complete and he would like to show it to the king.The king sent for the second artist and asked him, "Young man, when would your work be ready? I am coming to see the first wall this evening."

The man said, "My Lord, my wall is ready too!"

The king went to see the first artist's wall. He was very, very impressed with the painting and gave a hefty sum as a reward to the artist. He then asked for the curtain to be opened up

Lo and behold! The same painting was to be seen on the opposite wall too!

Amazing! But true! Each line, each minor detail was exactly as it was on the first wall. But this man had not been seeing what was going on, on the other side of the curtain.So how had he done it? The king wanted to know the secret.

He gave a double reward to the fellow. Then he said, "Young man, I am indeed very happy with your work. But you must tell me; how did you do it?"

The lad said simply, "It's very easy! I just polished the wall every day!"

It was a wall made of white marble! The fellow polished it till it shone like a mirror. The reflection of the painting across the room, showed up in it!

That is what it means to polish yourself. For when we polish our hearts and souls, we see God's reflection within.

It is said that the world is a reflection of you. Whatever you are, the world will seem to be that too. If you are sad, jealous, dejected, angry, restless ... that is what the world will seem to be!

If you are happy, the world will seem to be paradise.

You decide how you want your world to look...

The case of the missing dollar!

Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the missing $1?

An old gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%
The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, 'Your hearing is perfect.. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again.'
The gentleman replied, 'Oh, I haven't told my family yet.
I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!'

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement centre were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the other and says: 'Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?'
Slim says, 'I feel just like a newborn baby.'

'Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants.'

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.
The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great... I would recommend it very highly.'
The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'
The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love?
You know... The one that's red and has thorns.'
'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he didn't need my help to leave the hospital.
After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.
On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
'I don't know,' he said. 'She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.'

Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember…
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.
'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'
'Sure..'
'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.
'No, I can remember it.'
'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'
He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'
'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.
Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.. She stares at the plate for a moment.
'Where's my toast ?'

SAM Unlock / Activation method BLOCKED by Apple!

BAD NEWS!

SAM unlock method DOES NOT work anymore and has been blocked by Apple. Apple managed to fix this loophole by making some changes to their activation servers. This means that SAM unlock method WILL NOT WORK anymore.

For whoever is having issues with their activation, if you have backed up your Activation tickets, you will still be able to restore them and unlock your phones any time you want. For those who did not, you just ran out of time and luck!

The Dev-Team will be upgrading Ultrasn0w to support newer basebands in the future, but no specific date has been given. So it's once again a wait and watch situation.

SAM Easy Update for Unlocking iPhones!

An even easier update is out! For those of you who couldn't unlock their phones using the somewhat longer method, SAM has released an update for easier unlocking.

A Big thanks to Sam Bingner, Loktar_Sun and Laforet - the geniuses behind this unlock

Here's what you do.

1. Follow the steps to install SAM from Cydia as given in the previous tutorial.

2. Once SAM is installed from Cydia, Insert your new SIM card and tap to select SAMPrefs from your SpringBoard.

3. Make sure your Method is set to Auto Detect and tap Utilities. You can also enter your Carrier manually by choosing the option "Country and Carrier"

4. You will see an "Attempt Activation" button. If Attempt Activation is not highlighted, select "De-activate phone" and then "Attempt Activation" should then appear. Select that.

5. A Popup will appear asking you to wait as the unlocking will take a while.

6. After a while, your iPhone will respring and you should see your network and signal bars appear.

7. Apple may somehow close this method of unlocking your iPhone, so make sure you backup your unlock tickets.

8. Enjoy your unlocked iPhone. It will stay unlocked even when you connect to iTunes, reboot, restore, as long as you're using the same SIM card!
