Chess Mess at Manuels Tavern n Atlanta.

I'm a fan of chess and every third and first tuesday of the month I get with a group of strategists to exercise and sharpen my mind. It's exhilerating to say the least.

It was Started in 2010 by Ed Bell and Matt Magnuson and has grown to a respectable 50 members. Players of all ranges attend and ample beer is drank.

Theres a strict rule about not drinking milk while playing, but other than that, it's a pretty laid back crowd.
They meet from 7- 10 PM at Manuels Tavern:

The chessariffic duo have been quoted as saying: We are always looking to grow the group. Regardless of whether you are a master or new to the game, you will likely find someone of your skill level to play competitive games with, and if not, you can teach or be taught.

Orbital Visions

I have always wanted to know, if Our Glorious Earth orbits Our Magnificent Sun, why won't a marble orbit a water melon?
The Suns gravitational pull is greater than the planets, so they orbit it.
The Moon is smaller than the Earth, so it orbits us.

I mean, I'd at least expect a bubble to orbit a pumpkin.

on further thought and discussion, I guess that nothing natural upon the earth actually has it's own gravitational pull. The Sun and The Earth affects space and time, but it's inhabitants don't seem to.

It would be cool though! to make a chihuahua orbit a double decker bus.......

one of my first real photo tricks.

It was a long time ago and photography had already claimed my world.
One of the first tricks I learned was to expose the film enough so that I wouldn't just get a black square from under exposure. The next trick was not to over expose and end up with a roll of blown out film.
The Next trick was: if it looks good to your eyes, it will probably look good on film.

I had alot of hot friends at the time and it was easy to get great photos as I live in the Virgin Islands with these gorgeous women.

A few years later, I finally listened to a oft repeated idea--remove anything that doesn't help the photo. exit clutter and items un-needed.

The next trick came much later. My photos were nice, but they weren't always hot. I couldn't understand what the difference was between the Magazine/Advertising shots and my own. My work was proficient and clean with vibrant colors, but there was something missing.
I over heard two other photographers talking one day and one of them was talking about what he did to get the look of his work.

He overexposed by two stops everything that he shot!
The process was called 'Pushing' your film.

when you had 200 speed film, you would tell your camera that it was 100 speed film and all your shots would be a stop or two overexposed. I tried the trick and all my shots looked cleaner, brighter, it was the step that made me feel ready to work with anyone at any level!

After learning that trick, I learned something call cross processing. You would get slide film and develop it like regular film and this process would trick out your colors. They would be ultra saturated and colors would change and you would have this really colorful 80's style look. I loved it!

Photography isn't doing one thing well, rather it's a combination of many small tricks, numerous ideas come together to create a successful shoot. like pokemon cards, you just collect 'em all and pull 'em out your bag of tricks when needed.

wordpress visual editor not working

So many times as photographers we find ours selves deeply involved in some completely non photographic endeavours--usually for the sake of photography it self.
fickle mistress is she.....
from plumbing to philanthropy, from heart surgery to HTML.

Today was one of those HTMLish days.

A few days back, I got all brave and over trusting and upgraded my wordpress blog as it had been beckoning me to do. not to long there after I attempted to finish a post I'd had on hold and found that the wordpress visual editor not working. ( i wrote that wrong for googles sake)

This is a big deal to me as creating post in html view was just not going to happen.
After a month or two, I finally found the solution and want to share it with youse guise so's you won't have to go through what I went through.

To fix WordPress visual editor not showing, follow the steps below:-

FTP to your web server.
if you don't have FTP on your computer then let me suggest Filezilla. you can trust them.
HOST is the name of your website and USERNAME/PASSWORD are the ones you use with your hosting company. Mine is Godaddy and I had to call them because it wasn't exactly the same as my usual log in.
once in, you should see files on the right side of the program, that's your site (remote site) on the left is your local files.
Download your wp-config.php and add this line of code at the bottom of the file before the “require_once” line.

define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false );
```
(*remember to backup the original wp-config.php)

To edit this PHP file, you should be able to use NOTEPAD. Make those changes and save.
Once done, upload the wp-config.php to your web server again. Now refresh your wordpress page and you should see the Visual Editor now.

if that didn't work. Ah, well--back to google with ya.
