Everything we have done for the past couple of years has been aimed at keeping the fact that Claudia is missing at the front of people's minds. Everything we can do we are trying.

Today is obviously a special day because it is Claudia's birthday.

Today is difficult, just like Christmas...

Today in the peaceful solitude of St Margaret's Miniature Parish Church on what would be her 38th Birthday, a Candle burns in hope...

Please "Hold a Good Thought" for Claudia, her parents Peter and Joan and their family and friends, especially Martin Dales who works so very hard to keep Claudia and the mystery of her disappearance in our thoughts...

"Thank you for visiting this website dedicated to finding my daughter Claudia who for some inexplicable reason went missing from her home in York sometime after March 18th 2009.

It is every parent's worst nightmare when something like this happens and the times the family are living through are indescribably difficult.

We have, however, been much supported by people's prayers and compassionate thoughts and now our only desire is for Claudia to return to her family and friends.

If you can help us in our search, we would be most grateful and the police will appreciate every piece of information you might be able to give them"

A pair of fluffy white slippers kicked off by the door, her jewellery still on a chest of drawers… this was the scene that met Claudia Lawrence’s dad Peter when she vanished.

Claudia, from York, disappeared on March 19, 2009. She was due to start work at the city’s university at 6am but never arrived.

Peter told how he went to her house after a friend raised the alarm but found no sign of a struggle.

He said: “When I went into the house her jewellery was still on the chest of drawers.

She would never leave the house without her jewellery, unless it was to go to work, because they were not allowed to wear it.

Her handbag was still on the end of her bed with the bank card in it and there were plates, probably from supper, in the kitchen sink...

Claudia’s white fluffy slippers were still by the front door where she had kicked them off to put on her boots for the walk to work.

I've always said she didn’t just go off, she didn’t take her bank card, passport or her driving licence.

There is no evidence she had a breakdown and somebody would have spotted that.

I’m drawn, and always have been, to believe she was picked up by someone on her way to work, and someone she recognised because she was a quiet person but she could kick and scream.

At that time of the morning somebody would have heard that.”

Peter was first alerted to the fact his daughter had vanished when her friend Suzy Cooper phoned to say the prolific texter had not been had not been answering her messages.

He said: “That was extremely unusual as Claudia lived on her phone. She was always texting somebody. It could be infuriating at times.

I phoned her work and they said she was not in and wasn’t in yesterday either. They had texted her and hadn’t had a reply. At that stage the alarm bells were definitely ringing.”

Suzy, 47, added: “She loved her phone and was constantly texting, even when we were out. We’d be like, ‘Put your phone away’ but it was her main way of keeping everyone in her life.”

Worried Peter then drove to Claudia’s home before phoning police.

The call sparked one of North Yorkshire Police’s biggest investigations, costing £750,000 so far.

Peter and Joan, a deputy mayor of Malton near York, last spoke to Claudia the Wednesday evening before she vanished. Peter arranged to see her later in the week at her local pub the Nag’s Head, a few doors away from her home.

He said: “I know the exact time because we were having people round for supper and I said, ‘I’ll just have a quick word with Claudia first’.

I phoned her and we arranged to meet for a drink. She seemed okay, her usual self, and was happy to meet on Friday.”

An hour later, Joan chatted to her on the phone as they both watched TV show Location, Location, Location.

Claudia was last seen alive that afternoon as she walked home from work.

She was expected to have an early night, going to bed around 9.30pm to prepare for her early shift the following morning. The engine had blown up in her Vauxhall Corsa so she would have to leave at 5.30am to start work at 6am.

Some days Claudia would borrow her dad’s car for the journey from her home to the university.

But as it was spring and the weather was improving, she had began walking and enjoying the pleasant mornings.

Talking about the toll his daughter’s disappearance has taken on the family, devastated Peter, who has two grandsons aged seven and three, said: “It was, and it is, a nightmare. She was a huge part of my life and now there is a big hole in it.

“Somebody out there knows something and it is high time they said something.

His voice breaking, he added: “We all miss Claudia so much.

"Basking in the Quiet of Ash Wednesday"

Hello again!

Today is Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent, a time of 40 days and a time for pause.

It is also an opportunity to perhaps "give up" a destructive habit and to "start" something much more positive.

Lent is always a busy time at St M's and this year promises to be no exception and now that the design of St M's Parish Hall is now completed, things could get even busier!

Having taken a "peek" at the Parish Diary is enough to have left me exhausted...

However, for Ash Wednesday I shall set aside my busy life for awhile and as I bask in the candle light of a quiet and sparse church, I shall reflect upon the significance of this day.

The simple wooden Cross is now in place in the garden of St Margaret's Parish Hall...

Setting the Scene:

As the Season of Lent is historically a season of fasting and penitence, the Purple Coverings are now in place at St Margaret's Miniature Parish Church which have been created using Ribbon, Gold Braiding and assorted Miniature Crosses.

A Palm Cross was used to create lots of tiny Palm Crosses which was fiddly but worth it!

A simple miniature white bowl with filled with "Ash" and the table cloth is a piece of decorative ribbon.

Information about Lent was researched, copied and then reduced to scale.

The Memorial Cross that is situated in the garden of St Margaret's Parish Hall was created with wood and string and tiny indentations were made to symbolise the marks of the Crucifixion.

As Shrove Tuesday heralds the beginning of the 40 days of Lent until Eastertide, the simple wooden cross awaits in the small garden of St Margaret's Parish Hall...

With a poignant message to remind us of the significance of Easter...

The Christmas Trees have been taken away, the decorations are now in storage and the Christmas cards are waiting to be recycled.

Today is Christmas Eve and here at St Margaret's Miniature Church, we have celebrated the promise of Christmas with a special Service of Carols by Candlelight and a Nativity Play...

Tonight the Paschal Candle is burning that symbolises the light of Christ coming into the darkness...

The Life Light blazed into the darkness and the darkness could not put it out..

Setting the Scene:

As the Season of Advent comes to a close and with the promise of Christmas, the Christmas Coverings are now in place at St Margaret's Miniature Church which have been created using Ribbon, Gold Braiding and assorted Miniature Crosses.

The staging for the Nativity Play has been created with Balsa Wood, a decorative Star and Straw.

The Wooden Nativity Scene was bought from a visit to Southwell Minister.

The Advent Wreath was created by decorating a small piece of dry Oasis in a suitable container using pieces of Conifer and Fresh Moss.

The Advent Wreath was then finished using five Birthday Candles, three Purple Candles, a Pink Candle and a White Candle.

The Floral Arrangements within the Church have been created with the use of Silk Lillies and pieces of Conifer from my garden.

The green Christmas Trees have been bought from my local Model and Hobby store and they have been lit with Miniature Christmas Tree lights.

The "Tree of Hearts" has been created using Heart-Shaped Table Confetti and pieces of Gauze Ribbon.

The "Christmas Tree of Wishes" was a inexpensive Gold Tree that was bought from a local store and is completed with small cards of "Christmas Wishes" that have been copied and reduced to size.

A Pink Candle which is symbolic of the Virgin Mary has now been lit in the Advent Wreath of candles and evergreens that has been placed within St Margaret's Miniature Church...

The fourth is for the Virgin,

Who mothered God's own son

And sang how God's justice

Was meant for everyone.

the hope of love and light...

On this very day November 5 1605 the Gunpowder Plot was foiled and as Guy Fawkes and his collaborators were discovered and placed under arrest, bonfires were lit in jubilation across the City of London in honour of King James...

Some 406 years later and the tradition will continue throughout England as thousands of people will celebrate Bonfire Night with dazzling displays of fireworks, the warmth of a Bonfire and perhaps enjoying a delicious Hot Dog or two...

However, in the garden of St Margaret's, there is a flurry of activity as preparations are made for our annual Bonfire Night Party on Saturday November 5 in support of the charity Action for Children...

The wonderful month in which the leaves slowly fall against the backdrop of the vibrant colours of autumnal fire-red and orange flowers in the hazy sunshine.

A time to celebrate cosy evenings with a slice of delicious apple pie in front of a crackling fire and the harvesting of the pumpkins, potatoes and peas that we have grown in anticipation of the approach of winter.

Gosh! Doesn't time fly when you are having fun?

Yesterday, September 12 was the anniversary of Jacqueline Bouvier's wedding to John F. Kennedy and the Exhibition of Historical Wedding Dresses in which her beautiful dress and heirloom lace veil were on display came to a close.

It is also incredible to believe that "Tales of a Small Parish" has been blogging for over twelve months now!

And what a busy year it has been for this Miniature Church!

We have enjoyed all of the Church Festivals from Advent to Trinity; Exhibitions of Children's Art, Princess Diana's wedding gown and Marilyn Monroe's "Subway Dress".

We have also raised awareness with our "Annual Causes Weeks" that have included Domestic Violence Awareness Week 2011 and Christian Aid Week.

Candles have been lit in Memoriam for Nicole Brown Simpson, the poet Lord Byron and my Grandfather.

A Candle of Hope has also been lit for Claudia Lawrence who has been missing from York since March 2009.

We have also enjoyed "Two Weddings and a Funeral", a parade of colourful Easter Bonnets, delicious Pancakes and a "Tony Blair Guy Fawkes" for Bonfire Night on November 5.

And that is not everything!

Ultimately however, what has made this year so special for me is You!

I would like thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for your support, your friendship and for making "Tales of a Small Parish" so rewarding.

Thank you!

I am going to celebrate this momentous first year in the life of St Margaret's Miniature Parish Church with large slice of a Forever Friends yummy cake.

I only wish you could share a slice of this cake with me.

The doors of St Margaret's Miniature Church have been thrown open to welcome you to an Exhibition of Historical Wedding Dresses that begins today and ends on Monday September 12.

The Exhibition of Historical Wedding Dresses is a tribute in miniature to three iconic Brides, Diana Princess of Wales, Jacqueline Kennedy and Princess Grace of Monaco.

Today a Memoriam Candle is burning here at St Margaret's Miniature Church as we remember the wonderful and iconic Marilyn Monroe who died on this day, Sunday August 5 in 1962.

As Marilyn was known to ask her friends to "hold a good thought for me", a Miniature Church is proud to honour her..

There is also a tribute to Marilyn Monroe on the "Wall of Memories" in the Memorial Garden at St Margaret's Miniature Church..

The last few months here at St Margaret's Miniature Church have been rather hectic....Festivals, Memorial Services, the Annual Causes Week and the successful Exhibition of Children's Art..

As St M's is now enjoying a week or two of peace and reflection, you are invited to take a "peek" into the quiet Vestry..
