iPhone 5 launch next Wednesday we look at the five things

2012-09-11T01:56:00.000-07:00

apple takes awrap off the latest iteration of its flagship on Wednesday..as the worlds wait ... what should u expect

Ahead of the expected iPhone 5 launch next Wednesday we look at the five things that are expected to make up the new phone.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 5 on September 12

The rivals have shown their hands. Samsung played its cards, in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S3, back in June. Nokia followed, with the Lumia 920, earlier this week. Now both will wait to see what Apple is holding. In San Francisco next week Tim Cook, Apple chief executive, is expected to show off the iPhone 5. As always, Apple will confirm nothing until the launch event but widespread rumours allow us to make a few good guesses about what the new handset might be like.

1. The case

Numerous images purporting to show the new iPhone show a device that is slightly taller than the current iPhone 4S, which makes room for a taller, but not wider, screen. The back and sides of the new handset appear to be one piece of metal, with glass panels at the top and bottom of the case to maximise wireless reception. The iPhone 5 is rumoured to be around 30 per cent thinner than the existing model, too.

2. The screen

As mentioned above, leaked images and parts suggest a taller screen for the new iPhone but not a wider one. Smartphone screens have been steadily getting larger, while Apple have stayed with a display that measures 3.5-inches. This new screen is expected to measure 4-inches from corner to corner but the fact that Apple is not making the iPhone wider suggests a degree of confidence in the form factor. Larger devices, such as Samsung's Galaxy S3, can feel too wide for some users.

3. Goodbye dock connector

It's been a familiar part of Apple's products since the launch of the third-generation iPod in 2003 but the smart money suggests that the dock connector – used to charge the device or to connect it to docks and other accessories – is being replaced in the new iPhone. It's simply too big for a gadget that needs to get more powerful, while also getting thinner. In its place will be a much smaller connector, which will frustrate those with a lot of accessories.

4. Super-fast 4G capability

As with the third-generation iPad, released in March, the new iPhone is expected to incorporate 4G LTE connectivity, which means much faster browsing with a compatible network. Coincidentally, mobile network Everything Everywhere plans to turn on its own 4G network within weeks. Unfortunately, because US networks use different frequencies for 4G, it's by no means certain that the new iPhone will deliver 4G speeds here, even if it is capable of delivering them in the US.

5. Better performance

Now we're getting into the realms of crystal ball-gazing but it's reasonable to expect that the components in the new iPhone will be upgraded for better performance. Don't be surprised if the RAM doubles to 1GB and it's likely that the handset will be powered by a faster processor too.

Where does that leave us? Faster, thinner, better screen and it makes a long-established feature obsolete. It all sounds right but all eyes will be on California next week to see just how much of it is right.

MAKE QR CODES YOURSELF

2012-09-11T01:31:00.000-07:00

Have you seen an image like this somewhere? On an print ad, maybe? Or on the flipside of a calling card? It may look like a fuzzy painting by a drunk artist, but it actually is an information barcode, also known as QR code, that can be scanned. Point your smartphone camera at the QR code, and if it has the right software, the code will yield up its secrets — a phone number, an address, a discount offer... One software that reads QR codes is available at http://get.scan.me, for Windows, Android and iPhones. But how can you generate a code that you can put on your stationery?

Head to www.qrstuff.com

On the left of the screen, select the kind of information you want to put in the QR code: a Website address, a link or URL, an email address…

Fill the box in the middle of the screen with the information you want to embed in the QR code. Specify if you want the code in a different color — though I suggest you stick to black and white.

Click on 'Download QR code' and you get a .PNG file. This you can email, print it on a card, or even put up on your Website. Do scan this QR code and let us know what you found.

Windows Phone vs Android — The battle in the mid range

2012-09-04T09:08:00.002-07:00

Thanks to Nokia, the prices of smartphones running on Windows Phone has steadily been falling. As a result, if you are looking for a mid-range smartphone, it is no longer a question of choosing between the various Android-based smartphones.

I used the Nokia Lumia 610 and Motorola Defy XT, which have been launched recently. Here are my impressions.

Motorola Defy XT

The Motorola Defy XT, a rugged-looking phone, is certified dust-proof and water resistant. (Do note it is not water-proof.) Unfortunately, it also looks chunky, though the rubberised body does redeem the design somewhat. Despite the looks, the phone feels solid in the hand. The 3.7inch screen has a resolution of 480x854 pixels, and was bright enough to use even under the sunlight. The phone is powered by a 1GHz processor, which is assisted by 512MB of RAM. I was worried by the slight lag while switching between screens. The stutter doesn’t affect the experience while using apps, but it is a minus nonetheless. The phone runs on Android 2.3, Gingerbread, which is a bit of a disappointment - you expect Android phones to come loaded with at least Ice Cream Sandwich these days. But what I liked about the phone is that it comes with minimal bloatware.

Nokia Lumia 610

The review unit of the Nokia Lumia 610 I received was bright blue in colour with a shiny blue band along the edges.

With a resolution of 480x600, the screen of the Lumia 610 is comparable to the Defy XT. But thanks to the Windows Phone’s design, it is the former that looks sharper. However, the Defy XT’s screen is brighter of the two.

The Lumia 610 couples its 800 MHz processor with a separate graphics processor. Some of the games, however, lagged a bit. There were no issues, however, while using the phone for browsing or playing media files.

The user experience otherwise is standard issue Windows Phone 7.5, since Microsoft doesn’t allow manufacturers to tweak the OS like Android. In my opinion, Windows Phone is the more refined OS of the two. Then again, some may prefer Android’s tweak-ability over Windows Phone’s regimented experience. More important than user experience, however, is the availability of apps. In terms of sheer number of apps available, Android wins hands down.If you need a smartphone mainly to check emails and do basic browsing, then the Lumia 610 is the better phone — it has a better design and a smoother user interface.

But if you are keen on using a variety of apps, the Defy XT is the phone for you among the two. However, do not forget to check out other Android-based phones in the same price range.

new iphone facing screen delays

2012-09-04T08:41:00.001-07:00

The new Apple iPhone has not even being announced but already unnamed sources are predicting that stocks will be affected by manufacturing delays.

Sharp, whose chief executive let slip last month that his company would manufacture the screens for the next iPhone, is reportedly struggling with costs Reuters has reported, citing a source "familiar with Sharp's production operations".

The next iPhone is rumoured to be thinner than previous models, in part thanks to new technology that combines the touchscreen layer with the display itself. Reports also suggest that the new iPhone will have a screen that is longer - but not wider - than the current version and that it will drop the familiar 30-pin dock connector.

The loss of the dock connector, which Apple introduced in 2003 with the third-generation iPod, will make some accessories obsolete. Earlier this week sources told the Telegraph that Apple would compensate for this by expanding its AirPlay wireless connectivity technology to allow iPhones to connect to remote speakers without the need for a LAN.

Apple is expected to hold an event in California on September 12 to announce the new iPhone. If so, the company will almost certainly issue invitations to journalists and analysts some time next week.

Initially, rumours suggested that Apple would use the same event to announce a new 7-inch version of the iPad. The so-called mini-iPad is now expected to be unveiled at its own launch event some time in October.

According to Bloomberg, the mini iPad will use screens manufactured by LG and AU Optronics. Apple is thought to be planning the mini iPad as a way of competing with Amazon's Kindle Fire - a new version of which is expected to be unveiled this week - and Google's Nexus 7, which was released in July.

samsung galaxy note 2... the first impression

2012-09-04T08:21:00.000-07:00

The Samsung Galaxy Note was launched with huge fanfare at IFA in Berlin this time last year, and it was met with huge confusion. Was it a phone, a tablet or whole new category of device? Samsung claimed the latter, but rejected the ‘phablet’ label.

With a 5” screen and a stylus for writing directly on the screen, the Galaxy Note was a real attempt to turn creativity digital and even to digitise the humble paper notebook and pen or pencil. The idea of the ‘S-Pen’ was that it would allow users to snip parts of photos or the web and send them to friends easily and simply, annotate websites or pictures, or simply to write notes. To the surprise of the technology press, the Note sold very well and gained a loyal following among the 10million consumers who bought it.

With the launch of the SIII mobile phone, an update to the Note was inevitable, and last night in Berlin again Samsung revealed that the Note, previously like a large SII phone, would now look like a large SIII phone.

That’s unfair, however – in the few minutes I’ve had to use the Note, the improvements are substantial. I said in my review of the original that it was a brilliant idea whose execution was not yet perfect; in the Note II, however, the main improvement is the update to the pen so that it feels almost like using a conventional rollerball.

That simply makes writing on the screen feel easy, rather than like skating over glass: if anything the regret now is almost that the 5.5” screen is in fact too small. Who, after all, would use a 5.5” notebook as their main pad? The Galaxy Note 10.1, in fact, looks more attractive than ever.

smart apps for Android

2012-09-04T08:04:00.003-07:00

Last fortnight, we looked at some must-have free Android apps. Hope you got a chance to try and make good use of them. It’s time to shed light on a few more free ones that should reside in your phone.

Flashlight

Talk of shedding light, this app does that literally. Flashlight or Tiny Flashlight as it’s also known, allows you to use your camera flash as a torch with just one tap; simple but more than useful in the dark. However, if your phone does not have a flash or an LED, it just turns the screen white; not as effective but useful nonetheless.

QR Droid

Have you been seeing a lot of those weird squares made up of black and white characters lately? Yes, they are called QR Codes and they hold some useful information about the product or service. QR Droid helps you demystify them by scanning the QR codes with the phone camera and then decoding the information. I have seen a couple of airline companies conceal discounts on airfare in the QR codes on their websites. This app can help you save a few hundred rupees just like that.

Opera Mini
The default browser in Android is not too bad, but what’s the harm in having something better, especially on a GPRS connection. Enter Opera Mini, arguably the world’s fastest Android browser. Their compression technology significantly reduces data usage that not only speeds up browsing but also reduces your data costs. Add to that features like tabbed browsing, speed dial for websites, bars and pages that adjust

automatically to your screen size and you have an excellent browsing experience on the go. However, if you are on a fast data connection like 3G or Wifi, you might want to try Opera Mobile instead of Mini.

Sky Map

This is another interesting app that can be used in the dark. If you are into astronomy or sky gazing or simply can’t differentiate between Venus and Mars, Sky Map is the app for you. All you need to do is start the app and point the phone in the direction of the heavenly body you would like to know more about and it tells you exactly what you are looking at. Don’t get wrong ideas. Just give it a shot and you will be star-struck.

Dropbox

With the influx of various internet enabled computing devices, your data end up scattered across gadgets or you end up with multiple copies of the same unnecessarily consuming storage space. Dropbox lets you store all your photos, docs and videos at one place that can be accessed from your phone, tablet or computer. You are also allowed to edit your documents directly in Dropbox or save your email attachment there. And of course, it doesn’t miss out on the functionality to share files with your family and friends. The free version offers you 2 GB of storage space that can be enhanced to 18 GB if you refer more people. You also have an option of buying more space.

Reduce Photo Size

On the topic of compression, here’s a very handy tool that takes care of your images. The name may lack creativity or flair, but Reduce Photo Size is more than efficient at doing than what its name suggests and more. It primarily helps you resize, crop, rotate and share images. So, no more mailing those jumbo 2 MB image files or wasting those precious megabytes while sharing your images on Twitter or Facebook.

GO Power Master

One can’t stress enough the importance of having that extra bit of battery back-up in your smartphone. GO Power Master is a professional power management tool that helps you improve your battery performance. It identifies the most power hungry applications and also switches to a power saving mode when the battery is low. Its One-Touch Optimization helps you lighten the load on your battery instantly. One of the more interesting features of this app is that it shows your battery life in terms of time and not just percentages so that you get a fair idea about when to go looking for the charger.

WhatsApp is the new SMS/MMS of the smartphone world. The biggest difference being it’s free irrespective of whether you message your next door neighbour or your friend in the US. And not just text, you can share photos, videos and more. Add to that features like group chat, offline messaging, share location or contacts, plus there’s a lot more to explore. The best part is that even if some of your friends or family members do not have an Android phone, WhatsApp works seamlessly across different platforms like BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Phone and Symbian.
Note: The service is totally free for the 1st year. From the 2nd year, you need to pay $0.99 per annum which I am sure you happily will.

Viber

Viber is similar to WhatsApp, but with one major extra feature – free voice calls around the globe with other Viber users. Yes, it is similar to Skype, but with a lot more features. And it’s free of ads, too. It is certainly worth a shot if you have friends and relatives abroad or in different states in India. Though it functions on GPRS, it should be ideally used on a higher bandwidth data connection like 3G or Wifi especially for the voice calls.

m-Indicator

This app is dedicated to the Mumbai readers and especially those who use public transport. m-Indicator or Mumbai Indicator provides you Mumbai local Train timetable, Bus routes, updated auto and taxi fare at your fingertips and without a data connection too. They constantly keep adding new features to it with every update. Never let a cabbie or rickshawala overcharge you again and always know when the next train is going to arrive and plan accordingly rather than waiting for it for hours at the station. This is a must have for every smart Mumbaikar.

That’s it for now. Hope these apps serve you well and save you a lot of time and money.

Apple Awarded $1 Billion in Damages in Samsung Trial

2012-08-28T04:45:00.000-07:00

"I’m willing to go thermonuclear on this… I will spend my last

dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40

billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android,

because it’s a stolen product." steve jobs

Apple had sued Samsung for violating six Apple patents, claiming $2.5 billion in damages. the patents related about design, software patents.

The nine-member jury deliberated on arguments presented by both parties, answering 700 questions in two and a half days.

The jury found that Samsung had willfully infringed on patents and awarded Apple $1.05 billion

Apple will now press the judge to triple the damage amount, and will also seek injunction on Samsung products being sold in the US.

The fallout

The larger implication of Friday's verdict will be on Google's Android operating system (OS). Both Google and its hardware partners will strive to make their phones less like Apple, which means more innovation in the long term.
This isn’t a big financial blow for Samsung, but will force the company to change the design of its products. This may impact Samsung’s product roll-outs in the coming months, say analysts.
Microsoft, which recently launched the latest version of its own mobile OS may benefit from the verdict. Expect more Windows-based phones on the market as hardware manufacturers may prefer to work with Microsoft’s OS which isn’t under legal attack.
— Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, in his biography
San Jose/Seoul: A US court has ordered Samsung to pay $1.05 billion damages, after ruling that the South Korean firm infringed on some Apple patents. While the verdict was a big win for Apple, the damages are less than half the $2.5 billion compensation it sought — although that could yet be increased by the judge — and are just 1.5% of annual revenues from Samsung's telecoms business.
Samsung could also see its popular Galaxy smartphone banned from sale in the US. But its skill as a "fast executioner" — quick to match others' innovations — would likely mean tweaked, non-patent infringing devices would be on the market soon after any ban came into place.
“Samsung has already made some design changes to new products since the litigation first started more than a year ago,” said Seo Won-seok, an analyst at Korea Investment & Securities. “With the ruling, they are now likely to make further changes or they could simply decide to raise product prices to cover patent-related payments.”
Also, Apple’s demands for Samsung to pay it a royalty on its phone sales could hit rival phones using Google's Android operating system more than it hits Samsung. If anything, the blaze of publicity from the high-profile, high-stakes U.S. litigation has made Samsung's brand more recognisable.
Nomura analyst CW Chung, speaking before the verdict, predicted it could take “many years” for Apple and Samsung to settle the case whatever the result of this round, leaving the two firmly in control of the $200 billion-plus global smartphone market.
“The litigation may end up with both parties entering a cross-licensing agreement, which should enable them to build a higher patent wall in the smartphone market,” said Chung. “This would have a positive impact on the share prices of Samsung and Apple, while posing a substantial threat to other competitors.”
Based on the damages ruling, Samsung is asked to pay Apple around $10 royalty per phone, a move seen aimed at slowing rival phones that run on Android — which account for more than two-thirds of the global market.
If Apple were to pursue similar legal challenges against other Android manufacturers that could squeeze profit margins as smartphone prices decline in a growing market - reinforcing the dominance of Samsung, one of the few with big enough margins to absorb the extra cost.
Handset competitors using Android include Taiwan’s HTC Corp, LG Electronics, Google’s Motorola, Sony Corp and some Chinese brands.
WIN SOME, LOSE SOME?
Although Samsung had been viewed as the underdog in the U.S. case, the sweeping nature of Apple’s victory was something of a surprise, with many analysts having expected a mixed ruling.
Concerns over potential reputational damage, the short-term cash hit and the impact on billions of dollars of business with Apple had knocked as much as 5 percent off Samsung’s shares this week in the run-up to the verdict. But the stock is still up nearly 50 percent since Apple filed its accusations.
Samsung has previously been able to move nimbly to release model upgrades by the time courts have ruled certain products infringed Apple patents and retire patent-infringing models from its line-up. It has skirted around those rulings with a few engineering tweaks and has also made some bold design changes to differentiate its devices from Apple’s.
“The impact on Samsung will be quite limited, as affected models are mostly legacy products and its new products did make some design changes to avoid potential litigation,” said D J Jung, representative patent attorney for SU Intellectual Property.
“Still ... it’s a sweeping loss in the most important market. It’s inevitable that Samsung’s brand will be negatively affected - Samsung could be perceived as a copycat.”
Even though Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III phone was not involved in the trial, the jury validated Apple’s patents on features and design elements that Apple could then try to wield against that product.
It is possible Apple would not have to seek an entirely new trial against the S III, but rather include it in a “contempt proceeding” which moves much faster, said Nick Rodelli, a lawyer and adviser to institutional investors for CFRA Research in Maryland.
Seoul-based Jung predicted further appeals and fresh suits against newer products as the rivals continue to clash in court.
“It’s going to be a very drawn-out battle,” he said. “They will keep suing each other, appeal against unfavourable verdicts and bring in new products ... because the stakes are too high. They don’t want to lose their initiative in the fast-moving smartphone market.”
In a research note before the verdict, UBS analysts said an Apple win could, in the long-run, hurt the U.S. firm “as the real threat is not a competitor beating Apple at its own game, but instead changing the game.
“The likelihood of Apple being leapfrogged or a rival creating a new category (of device) is greater if they have to think out of the box. If they just copy Apple, like Coke, Apple can claim to be ‘the real thing’.”
Samsung also looks to be staying ahead of the curve - by reviving the stylus function, derided by Apple’s Steve Jobs, in its latest tablets and by creating the hybrid phone-cum-tablet, or phablet, category, with its 5.3-inch Note.
Apple, which has largely stood by its original form and design, is taking note, with speculation that the next iPhone will have a bigger screen and new iPads may be smaller.
In China, set to become the world’s biggest smartphone market this year, Samsung has almost twice Apple’s market share, and the iPhone slipped to fourth in the market in April-June, overtaken by both Lenovo Group Ltd and ZTE Corp, according to latest data from industry research firm IDC.
Despite, or because of, the publicity from the U.S. case, and more than a dozen pending cases elsewhere around the globe, the Samsung brand has gained recognition - as an equal to Apple rather than merely a supplier.
In a recent Campaign Asia-Pacific brand ranking, Samsung came top ... ahead of second-placed Apple

technology tip: erase your damaged online mistakes

2012-08-01T22:18:00.002-07:00

first of all Google your self , so that you will be able to know what comes out about your self before fixing it -take a look quickly and do the same with other popular search engines such as bing , yahoo , etc ..

After you've searched about yourself and know is the result the search engine give you .... and see what are the trouble spots, ask any of your friend to go through the same exercise as he may see things you've missed.

Second step: - go through the on-line content you have control over that and remove from it from data available on net .. what u no longer want to share or what u think that is inappropriate or dangerous to share...

Cleanse your, Twitter blog and Face-book pages. if u find the content you think you don't have control over that ask the owners and politely ask them to please remove it.

Third step, create new positive content - if you can't remove everything that's negative about your self no worry because its old one , says Bryce Tom, CEO of Metal Rabbit Media, the next best thing is to do is overwhelm and suppress it by creating new, positive content. The new material will show up higher in search results for your name.

Fourth step :, prune your friends - be sure you know what's public and what's private on the sites you use, says Iv-ester. On Face book, prune questionable friends. Organize remaining ones into groups, according to their trustworthiness or their area of interest.

Doing this presents an opportunity to re-think what you're comfortable sharing on- line, whom you trust and whom you don't.

Fifth step , hire a professional scrubber - depending on how many gaffes you've committed, professional will manage your problems .

Lastly, hire a PR professional so that as soon as embarrassing information about a client appears there, your PR will handle that .

Truvada as a preventive measure for healthy people who are at high risk of contracting HIV.during sexual activity .who have HIV+ partners .that discussion come out after the two weeks agency approved another product :the 1st over the counter HIV test that American people can do in their home .
about 1.2 million Americans are battling with HIV . that further convert into AIDS if doesn't not cure at proper time with proper antiviral drugs . the biggest problem is that about 1/5 people don't even know that they are infected with the HIV.
" i think the combination of self testing and a midicine that you can take at home to prevent infection could mean a whole new approach to HIV prevention that is a bit more realistic " said Dr Demetre Daskalakis of New york University s Langone medical center ...

however there is the need that the drug( a Pill) has to be taken every day to be effective , and that would be most effective to small group of people . how ever Truvada is a biggest achievement in the field of HIV
it may not be available without health insurance ... lets see what will happened

top reasons for breakups

2012-07-17T23:35:00.007-07:00

you were foolish enough to ask me what i was thinking

when ever i call u your show is busy

we break up because of the INTERNET porn

treating as servant

we break up because you never missed me when on office trip.

you don't like my pet .

you give importance to all the things other than me.

we break up because you don't love me as much as you loved your self

because i want to marry u and u don't

due to miss behave. and social status .

by the time we finally got together , i was mostly over u

i broke up because u could never be stand to to be alone

you were wearing my pink lipstick that figured you were gay

i felt alone and u didn't see it

i was only second best to your perfect Ex-girlfriend

(it is possible to control your PC through your tablet..and that doesnt cost any thing..

2012-07-17T23:15:00.003-07:00

Remote control it is possible to access your computer though your tablet. and it doesn't cost anything .. heres how ..

so have got your self a tablet , and It accustomed thoroughness of work and convenite its ease impressed me . all the time you people can carry it with your self , and it helps you and most of your work .But every now and then , there is stumble -( a pro-gramme )that does not run on your tablet . or you are traveling out of town , need urgently access some files which is stored in your computer .

Do these scenarios sounds similar ?

despair not , it is possible to access your computer from your tablet , thorough the INTERNET We look at couple of free solutions( that have premium upgrade) also - what the Internet economy loves to call the "freemium" model ).

LOGMEIN IGNITION

available for android , iOS

logmein has been around for a long time . it allows you to securely access your PC or Mac through the INTERNET .

you can download and install software on your PC , singh up for the service , choose from their free , free trail or paid services depending on your features that you want , and leave your PC On ..

now no matter where you are , as long as your home is turned on with the INTERNET working , you can access it . Install the app Ignition on your tablet. fill in your credentials. and bingo! you have to access . regardless of whether your computer is a PC or Mac , and your tablet runs on android or iOS , the exchange is seamless . you can run any application that is on your desktop back at home or office .

the good part of logmein over its competition is the seamless interface, the user experience and the blackened security . another advantage is that basic features are available free , the most wonderful feature for me is that in case your desktop has multiple monitors (min has 2 ), you can choose which one you want to work on .
the client f r the android and iOS are free , but is you want the pro version , that cost about $69.96 per PC per year ( about RS: 3,900).

TEAM VIEWER

Available for Android, iOS

The process is similar: get the free software installed on your desktop at home and the software generates an ID-password combination.

The password is yours to change, but the ID (which is for the computer) needs to be retained and remembered.

On the tablet you have an option of downloading a free version, which Team Viewer mentions is for their non-commercial users, or a paid version which is designed for commercial users, and also has a few extra features.

If you are accessing your home PC over the Internet it is viewed as non-commercial activity, but if you are accessing your office PC it is commercial.

If you choose to go with the free option, many a time Team Viewer will not let you connect if it determines that you are using the application in a commercial environment. This does get buggy.

You could choose to buy the commercial application for a one-time payment of $139.99 (Rs 9,800 approx) for the iOS iPAD version; the pro application for Android comes free. You do need to pay for the desktop licence, though.).

Top 5 ultra portable notebooks that aren't ultrabooks

2012-07-17T01:56:00.005-07:00

Ever since ultra books were introduced , they paved the way for highly portable notebooks PCs . The major advantage of ultra-books is they weigh around a kilo and half and have processing powers that can rivals higher end notebooks. With this compactness and portability , compromises had to be made. manufacturers have had to remove some key components Ultra books too , tend to be on the pricer side . if u r looking for a full fledge notebook that offers portability of an ultra book minus the exclusion of the features like an optical derive . LAN jack , etc

Technology tip: Search better on Google

2012-07-17T00:11:00.003-07:00

Google has improved by leaps and bounce as a search engine from where it started a few years ago. apart from searching . Google today functions as a calculator , a converter, and even an information tool . here are few tips on how to use Google better :

say you want to call a friend in new York and are not sure if it is appropriate time to call , run a search
"time new York ".
to check how hot or cool in Brazil right now , run a search

"weather Brazil "
traveling to NewYork and watch to catch sunset ? of course you can ask the locals , who will give you the approximate time.why not search Google ??

"sunset New York"

you can also use full sentences

what is the time in New York ?
what is the weather in Brazil?
what time is sunset in NewYork?(on specific date )

what you must remember is too clearly identify what you are searching for . the better your query , the better the result .Use quotations mark to spell out your search query : it makes things easier for the Google search engine .

A Personal Cloud that easy to set up

2012-07-16T02:57:00.002-07:00

At a time when we own multiple gadgets -- laptops , smart-phones and tablets -- its become necessary to keep your data in a way that is accessible seamlessly across all devices . one option is to copy all videos all musics , pitures in cloud service like drop box or Google drive , paying a monthly subscription fee for the storage . the other option is to use network attaches storage (NAS) ie . external hard disk that are attached to the wireless router at your home. if you have active Internet connection and keep the router and hard disk on , you will be able to access data on the hard disk from anywhere .

all this sound terribly technical , and clearly the key thing to consider before buying an NAS in the ease to set up .

i have been using the recently launched western digital my book live duos, and it has been one of the easiest device to set up . the review unit came with two 2TB hard disk , and came with just two cables the power cable and an Internet cable to connect the device to the router ed the soft ware on the laptop which is all you need to do set up the divice the software that discover the hard dis on network . it creates shortcuts to access the hard disk on the desktop , and next launches the set up page .
you can operate the device in two modes . Raid 0 is the uncomplicated mode , where you get 4 TB space for backing up data .In Raid 1 mode the total available space fall to 2TB . this is because the device automatically mirror s whatever data you have backed up .
finally there is option of creating activation code for your android and IOs device . I first downloaded the WD2Go app on my ipad -- Android version is available too i created the activation code from the set up menu on my laptop and fed it to my ipad , I could access the pictures and music files that i had on public folder of the my book live duos

how ever that was good experience . the 4TB is priced at RS.24,999 and the 6 TB was RS.29,999

Jelly Bean

2012-07-16T02:31:00.002-07:00

google pulled the wrap off its latest sugary OS, jelly bean (JB) during its annual I/O confrence in san francisco. The version for JB is 4.1 and the update will be pushed out to device like Motorola XOOM.Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus S somewhere in mid july .Heres a quick look at some of the highlights of JB and what awaits you in Adroid 4.1

Project Butter- fastest android experience yet

this involves delivering a constnt frame rate of 60 ps throughout the OS as well as native app . with the help of triple buffering , the CPU and ?GPU work in tandem to match keep refresh rate at the constant 60ps for much smoother UI expectation J also uses something called touch input boost that wake up the VC?PU from n idle state a lot quiker . it also uses a new algorithm for touch anticipation which learns your usage patterns and predcts which apart of the screen youll be touching next

Understanding the nature of matter

2012-07-11T02:29:00.002-07:00

Fifty years ago , particle physicists faced an unexpected challenge . their best mathematical model could account for some of the natural force s that and behavior of matter at fundamental level , such as electromagnetism and the weak nuclear force responsible for radioactive decay .cut the models worked only if the particles inside of atoms had no mass. how could huge conglomerations of such particle - proteins people, planet- behave as they do if their constituent parts weighed nothing at all ?
Some physicists invented a clever workaround . they suggested that a type of particle exists that had never been detected. it was eventually named f the British physicist peter Higgs . for a half -century , physicists searched for the elusive "higg particles" now following research conducted at CERN , the sprawling particles - physics laboratory near Geneva, the hunt is over . at first blush , the idea behind the Higgs particles outlandish . Higgs and his colleagues suggested that every elementary particle really is massless , just as the mathematical models require , and hence all particles would ordinarily zip around at the speed of light . but suppose that every thing around us - every single particles in universe - is immerse in huge , unseen vat of higgs particles . whenever most kinds of particles move from point A to point B , they continually bump into higgs particles , slowing their motion. When we observe them they appear to lumber along like holiday shoppers in a crowed store. from their slow motion we infer that they have mass.

a representation of traces of a proton- proton collision measured in the search for the Higgs boson is depicted in this handout by CERN, Physicists have found a new sub- atomic particles in their search for the higg boson , the particle that is believed to explain the mystery of mass

While a 50 years search for hypothetical particles reminiscent of the bizarre fairytale might seem quixotic . the higgs particles stands at the center of the "stander-ed model" of particle physics . Every experimental test of the model so far has matched theoretical expectations . in some striking examples , the agreement between prediction and measurement has stretched out to twelve decimal places , making the stander-ed model the most accurate scientific theory in human history . the model successfully accounts for three of the four basic forces of nature only gravity remain beyond its purview.higgs particles might have played an even more substantial role at earlier moment is cosmic history . my own research , along with that of the physicists around the world, has focused on what effects higgs particles might have just fractions of second after the big bang -effects that could explain the shape and fate of the universe .
And yet , for all that we still had no direct evidence that higgs particles even exist , according to the stander-ed model , higgs particles scatter off each other , so they too. should have mass . the latest research indicates that higgs particles (if they exist ) should be among the most massive critters of the subatomic realm, more than 120 times as massive as the familiar proton.

To produce such particles in the laboratory requires revving up protons nearly the speed of light and smashing them together which the large Hadron Collide r at CERN accomplishes trillions of times per second . the energetic collision produce all manners of debris , which physicists carefully track with huge detector s and sift with sophisticated computer algorithms. Physicists confront two major hurls in their hunt for the Higgs , first they must identify patterns in the debris that could have come from production and rapid decay of a higgs particles The sought after signal is well understood in principle, given what we know about the stander ed model . so is the background noise from all of the other junk that comes flying out when two protons collide colossal energy . physicists searching for a new Higgs like needles in a mind - bogglingly large haystack must comb their data for anomalies in the debris that cannot be accounted for by known processes.
the second difficulty concerns statistics . the rules of quantum theory , on which the slandered model is built , are at root probabilistic. there will always be statistical flukes in the data , just as any series n produce an unexpected strings of seven heads in row .
to know with confidence that the coin is ordinary , with no hidden features , one must log a sufficiently large number of coin flips and check whether the data include equal numbers of heads and tails over the long run . if the data still show a bias towards heads , on e may be justified in thinking that coin have some unusual properties .
the same holds true for all of the chaff from the protons collision . before physicist can claim that their anomalies really come from higgs particles. they must gather enough data to rule out flukes .A CERN two independent team of physicists announced this month that their data were consistent with detection of higgs particle, bringing the 50 years hunt for one of the most fundamental bits of matter to successful conclusion.

of a fall launch and other rumours about iphone 5

2012-07-10T19:14:00.001-07:00

i Maps , integrated facebook , face-time, not to forget an improved siri , near field communication , or NFC support and 4G/long term evolution , or (LTE) connectivity ---- i phone 5 widely expected to be released later this year .is expected to support all this features and somewhere ..
the usually secretive apple Inc has given a hint of the release date and features of the upcoming iphone 5 through the iOS on web-pages on its website .
The later iOS 6 update puts its release for fall this year , which could be any time between September and December .
though apple is mum on the details of its much awaited smart phone , here some new features device acpected to have .

iMap.Apples newly developed maps application iPhone 5 would . in fact be the first devise to feature it
Apple has announce that integrate facebook in iOS 6 , hinting iphone 5 will almost certainly have this new feature , especially after the integration of Twitter on the i Phone 4S last year .
facetime, which so far allow d to face- t -face video calls , i phone to iphone , ipad , ipod touch , mac , or PC over Wi-Fi , can now be used over cellular connections as well . That means u can use it when you want , where you want i phone 5 could have that too
you wil have also more options answer or decline calls - like sending a text massage from choice of a pre programmed options if u wish to be not to disturbed at the moment----- and also remain yopur self later to return the missed calls
the latest rumor is that the iphone 5 will be equipped with quad core preprocessor A6 chip to be par with its competitors like samsung , after all , apple did follow the release of its A5 chip with an A5X in its third - generation iPad didn't it ??

as it did with iphone 4S and iOS 5 , apples choice of fall season launch could help /iOs 6 , too thugh some feel the Cupertino , California headquarters company will bring the release date forward to sometime next month .

that could help the tech giant put a spoke in the wheels of samsung whose galaxy s3 has been ranking in the moolah admits rumors the Korean chaebol plans to release yet another smart phone this faal .
and if the apple insider are to go by , i phone 5 also has the stamp or approval of steve jobs himself , who is said to have worked closely with the tea on this before his dismiss on October 5

smashing discovery

2012-07-10T08:27:00.036-07:00

Scientist have announced the discovery of a new sub atomic particle that could be Higgs boson- - popularly known as 'god particle'- that is believed to be the basic building block of the universe.

what they did?

scientist at CERN accelerated protons at 99.9999991% of the speed of light in the large Hadron Collider and made them collide and explode to produce enough energy to create the 'God particle '

what they found?

a particle weighing in at 125.3 giga electro volts(geV) - about 133 times heavier than the proton at the heart of every atom.ii last less than a millionth-of a billionth-of a second

is it the Higg boson???

scientist are not sure yet .But this finding is at the 'five-sigma' point , the gold standard in physics for a discovery .That is , there is only a one - in -3.5 million chance that the discovery is the result of a fluke in data

why is discovery important ??

So far,the Higgs boson only exist in theory . The higg theory explains how would the Higg boson , the universe would have remained a formless soup of particles . proof it exists could lead to new understanding of how universe began .

what if it is something else ???

scientist are excited at thought because all the matter we can see and understand comprises just 4%of the universe. any new particle could help us to understand the other 96% of the universe.

Peter Higgs

WHO IS HIGGS?

Peter Higgs, 83 years old British physicist who proposed the existence of the higgs boson in 1960s, was at CERN ,Geneva , to welcome the news . his eyes brimming , he told the symposium::"it is an incredible thing that it has happened in my life time"

WHO IS BOSON?

the term 'boson' comes from the name of Indian physicist and mathematician Satyandra Nath Bose . Bose is best known for his collaborations in the 1920s with Elbert Einstein

ipad trade mark row over for Apple.Price: $60million

2012-07-10T05:19:00.003-07:00

Apple has paid $60 million to pro view Technology (Shenzhen) to end a dispute over the ipad trademark in china that saw the worlds most valuable technology company engaged in a protracted legal tussle with a near -bankrupt Chinese firm .The lawsuit had hampered some sales and delayed the launch of new ipad in china Prior to the launch , pro-view requested Chinese authorities in scorers of chines cities to order re sellers to take all ipad off their shrives.
The court -mediated settlement , announced on the website of the Higher Peoples court of Guangdong province , will allow Appleto get on with selling its popular tablet PC in one of its most important market , analysts said." the settlement in great news for Apple . Its just allow them to get on with business and stop being distracted The new ipad has been so late to the china market that if they drags it any longer ., Apple will stand to lose quite a bit more " .said Tech zhung wong . a beijing based analyst with technology research firm IDC.Apple and pro view Technology (Shenzhen) , aunit of Hong Kong listed preview international holdings , have been negotiating to reach a settlement since the court conducted an initial hearing in February, after Apple appealed a lower court ruling ...apple said it bought ownership of the trademark in various countries from the preview , once a global monitor maker , nbut the chines company argued the US firm dealt with only one unit of preview.

Samsung working on a tablet that will run on Windows RT.

2012-07-10T02:23:00.003-07:00

Samsung will be among the first to launch a Windows tablet running on arm -based processors rather than Intel, reports claim.Samsung tablet running the existing Windows & software have long been Microsoft 's devoured way of demonstrating its opening system's touch interface . for the release of Windows 8 , however new tablets will also be released using Arm's lower powered chips, upon which the i pad is ultimately based .

The new tablet will run a version of Windows 8 called Windows RT that is optimized for touchscreen and only offers the 'Metro' browsing interface that is similar to that used on Windows phone .
The samsung tablets will be released when Windows 8 itself is unveiled in October , Bloomberg reported . They will boost Microsoft's continuing bid to get into a tablet market that is dominated by Apple's iPad , which snipped more than half the entire market in the last quarter .

the 11.8 million iPads shipped represented a 58% share, according to researcher IHS ISuppli Inc .
samsung was second , with 11% , thanks to a mix of Windows 7 and Google Android devices , while Amazon,s Kindle fire took 5.8%

HP has confirmed that it will not, however , be backing Windows RT initially, instead sticking with traditional . Intel based Windows . Bloomberg added that Samsung's Windows RT tablet will feature QUALCOMM's Snapdragon processor .

In an Indication of how important Microsoft consider the tablet market to be , it also recently announced that it is to make its own tablet, called the Surface. Although the device was apparently impressive , reviewers were not able to use it extensively , and manufacturing partners have suggested that Microsoft's decision to make its own devices could compromise the existing relationships.

Itel has announced that it had secured first refusal on touchscreen orders with four manufacturers .S spokesman for Microsoft , Samsung , Qualcomm and Arm declined t comment ...
