well hello gentle reader I decided to do something different today. Sort of a self look at the events that led me to letting you out there in here to my thoughts and world. When writes a blog like this he/she has to do a lot of thinking and planning opening up their world to God knows how many millions. Well I took that step and now am in it to show my talents to the world and whomever reads this.

Coco the red dog was spayed about a week before this video was taken. her recovery went well but I think they may have given her some testostrone in the sleep meds…LOL !!!

I really had nothing to write about today I was going to write on academic writing but will save that for a later date. I have to adjust my thoughts and motes on that still.

SETTING OUT OUR GOALS

What personal goals would you like to achieve within the next 1–5 years? List one personal goal (Consider what you want to achieve in life).
What academic goals do you have that you would like to achieve within the next 1–5 years? List two academic goals, consider the following categories: Choice of major, GPA, and degree completion.
What career goals do you have that you would like to achieve within the next 1–5 years? How will completing your degree at South University help you achieve these goals? List two career goals.

In the next one to five years my personal goals are fairly simple and basic, listing here only one personal goal in life I would say it would be to give back to those that has given so much to me. You see I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth, nor did I grow up with the security of a mom and dad that would be together till the end of time. I grew up pretty much fending for myself doing things others would not do for me including time living on the streets in my youthful years (18-24). As I got older and more stable I vowed that I would include in any of my plans and goals to help those less fortunate then I am at that time if I could. I have since started that little by little helping out friends whom lost work (now in same boat as them) but I used my last bit of money to help them out. You might be thinking how stupid I’m out of work and I use my money on someone else. Well it sounds that way but let me show you the blessing in that. Back when I was at my low with nothing on my back but what I wore. There were people out there who gave up their time l and helped out us transits as we were referred to as. By doing so many blessing came to them in return. I have not been blessed as much as them yet but have in return little by little. I have my health and a roof over my head and the ability to go to school once again. You see it’s those blessings I like more. So as I progress and set these goals as a priority in all I do personally I will accomplish them one day at a time and that is why I put this goal up on the top of my list as reminder of where I came from and what got me here.
Now for the academic goals in my life of course to sound cliché get my degree and go for the gold. Well to me it is more than a degree. It is a mile stone for me and my family I will be the only one in my immediate family with a degree, the golden calf, if you will. After going through all the above mentioned I will be an example of how hard work and endurance can bring great rewards. Having tried many colleges and finding one that suits me I now am determined to grab the educational bull by the horns and take hold it’s reins. Keeping my grades up to the best I can. If i get on any honor roll or such so be it that’s about all it is to me my name on a list. The real prize is the day I hear my name or see my name on a degree and say this is truly mine and I earned it.
Career goals are in place at the moment for me to learn and develop the skills I need to become a web and graphic designer freelance style. Knowing in my mind that I might not be able to do it right off the bat upon graduation but finding a job to give me skills and work from there will be the steps I need to take. As I get my cliental and business starts to pick up I plan to turn some of my profits into helping out the community. Working for myself will give me the since of accomplishment I need to fulfill my life dreams and help others along the way. As a secondary goal I would like to maybe open up a private web development class and teach those who plan to go into this field as a pre college course giving them the basic information they need so that when they get into college they will not be so worried and will achieve with great results.

Welcome back to my blog, well it is rainy and cold out here in the offices of KWLT Studios, but the coffee is warm and flowing on the inside. I would usually have this up earlier then it is but I got involved with school and sorts. Yesterday we talked about the resume and how to write one. Today I want to touch on it’s companion the COVER LETTER, not a letter like you would write to a friend but a letter to introduce a future employer to the product(you). A cover letter is the intro to your sales pitch if it is not in order like the resume then it will not do you any good.
Let us look at 4 easy steps to perfect a cover letter. remember these are only suggestions and not to be used as a final plan. near the ending of this post I will give a few more suggestions to tie the two together .
Step one:
The cover letter should be addressed to a specific person and their department. Avoid if you can salutations like To Whom It May Concern, Dear Sir / Madam. I f you can call the company and get the name of the person your sending the letter to asking for the correct spelling of the name even it’s a common name. A misspelled name can result in a missed opportunity for that dream job.
Step two:
the first paragraph should WOW the employer and make them want to continue reading. Make sure you answer the question “ Why are you applying for the position ?” this is known as “the carrot”. Your selling your self to the employer and they need to be convinced to hire you. Make it to where they will read further . Don’t give a life story but be brief in your objective.
Step three;
The second paragraph should be your qualifications, highlighting your experience in the field List about two or three qualifications you have that you think will get you in to the yes pile. You may add things you didn’t include I your resume here also.
Step four:

The final paragraph should ask the question “Where do we go from here?” Don’t Say that you hope to hear from then soon they might not consider you for the position . Say that you will call them instead and make sure you do and not blow then off. Let them know you will call so they can expect to hear from you.
Both the cover letter and resume should be typed out and on matching paper. Don’t use cheap typing paper or such, a good 100% cotton paper would work. lastly your cover letter and resume should match the job position your seeking. Don’t use a generic cover letter and resume for each job.

How ya during this fine day my gentle readers?
Today I want to touch on the three C’s of a resume.Do you remember what they are? Here’s a hint: they start with “C”. Remember them yet? Alrighty then one more hint no matter what kind o f resume you make it must have these three elements.
The first element a resume must have is it must be clear in details of your work history and educational background. and all detaial needed. If an employer has to struggle to read it then well as a witness in the past years I seen that file thirteen appear out of nowhere.
Secondly, our element of concise come in. here Now have you ever went on vacation and got one of those brochures off the rack for ‘Fun places” in the area. Well your resume is your brochure and you’re the product that is why it should be concise to make the employer want to pick up the phone and land you an interview. Make them want to know more and call you to find out. I’m not saying to go out and print u p a high colored overloaded graphic resume. just make it clear and concise.
Coming in third place we have corresponding. Make your resumes for your future jobs not the past. in other words if your in nursing then your resume information should show your skills and education in nursing etc. Employers don’t care if you waited tables while in school they want to know what your recent work in the field has been.

some advice for the new student

Hello gentle readers and welcome to today’s reading as you noticed the last three posts were discussions from my class Strategies for Success. Lord knows I should be able to do this class blind folded as you may or will read later. Any ways I don’t have any posts for class right now but want to pass along some advice to that new student from my personal experiences and some published material . As I mentioned this is also a private exercise for me to overcome my fear of writing etc. so if your ready let’s go for today’s ride.

Ahh, it’s the first day of college and the weather outside is cold and ugly and the furnace down the hallway is just kicking , the smell of coffee is sifting through the air as I rool over and hit that button to bring me to the world wide web. Yes that place where you can go to school in your underwear. As I did on my first day at college. well that was then but on the real part here is some sound advice for you the new student.
Change it is a word we all come across in our lives something we al have to deal with and for the new student it can be scary or it can be fun. For me it was both but if you attend college online well this blog is aimed towards you and even those who attend land campuses, if they really still have those, you can use this to.
Ok it’s your first year and your getting all this info of what to do when to do it and this and that. allot of information to take in. make a folder on your computer in the document folder labeled your school name inside it make folders for your classes. w hen your able to get in your class copy and paste everything you can possibly get. Making sure you have these main items in your bag of survival tips.

the class syllabus
the grading rubic for all weeks of work
your Professors contact information
and important dates for school and classes

Make a back up plan:
WE NEVER KNOW WHEN DISASTER WILL STRIKE. Get yourself a flash drive and make a back up of all this information so that when disater does hit your covered.

Make sure you have time to devote to your schooling being online it is really easy to get distracted . By personal eperience I know, FACEBOOK is EVil lol. Serious put every thing on the back burner and devote time for school . Let your friends and Family know your doing this for them but it’s in reality it ‘s about you.

Leave time for you and your friends don’t get to burned out in school your frineds and famimly need time to .

How would you define "critical thinking" in your own words?
How did you use critical thinking to make choices or decisions about your program of study, intended career, and school?
How can critical thinking help you succeed as a college student?
What is one way that you use critical thinking in your daily life?

Critical Thinking:

To define critical thinking in my own terms I would say it’s the process I would take when making a conscience action to perform a job or task in the most fashionable way and time. Its information that is the result of having proof, logic, evidence, based on hard core facts or credible research. When approaching projects we look at it in all perspectives, at many angles if you will, to determine if the information we gather is definable or true. Looking at things in many angles will make one stop and think, leading to the result of what we think is important to share.

I love this question how did I…? When I made the decision to attend to school I searched out many colleges that offered courses that pertained to my career and had many choices. I tried attending several colleges and did not find what I was really looking for. After researching I found South University and the courses and style of presenting the courses, they caught my eyes one class at a time where as I had 2 at a time and the work was more then I could handle with work and more. Hearing about how the classes here are I jumped in the band wagon and here I am.

As a college student critical thinking is a necessity in research for reports and regular assignments, as well as for career planning and scheduling of classes. Without the proper armor going at a career move can be dangerous and lonely, having the weapon of critical thinking can save you from a lot of pain in the future. The right thinking can bring much success, but the wrong thinking can lead to failure and I for one been down that road to many times.

Outside the box in reality world critical thinking is used in many ways in my life especially now as I start school and have to find a new job etc. Making this choice will require thinking from all aspects and decisions made to accommodate the things that I must do to survive. One decision comes to mind as I write this I ask myself “am I willing to take a pay cut and start over like I did 14 yrs ago and work my way up”? Will the company work with me and my school schedule? Many other questions i must ask and think about but all in all a decision will be made and I will overcome.

Post 2 of week one in college

There are two parts to this assignment.
For the first part, review the assigned textbook readings and lecture for this week, and provide a response to the following by Thursday, January 13, 2011.

1. Based on the four facets of information literacy (What do I need?, Where will I find what I need?, How do I know if the information is “good” information?, How do I use the information I have found?), identify the one facet you feel is most important,

2. Explain your reason for choosing that one facet as being the most important, and provide at least two reasons why this facet will contribute to your academic success.

Part one

Out of the four facets of information listed I grow fond of: where will I find what I need? I find this one most important to me in many ways in my life not only in my educational area but in career also. At looking why this is important to me in my academic success would be, knowing that the resources I will need can come from many sources I don’t have to stray too far from school with many resources at my fingertips so to speak. In my field of web and graphic design a fast paced and ever changing field.

Try to stay with me as I try to explain why I say that and blend it in here as to how it will aide or help me in my academic success.

To start off with as I have mentioned in my first post I am not a writer in any form or fashion, but I manage to write enough I hope to get my point out there in a way to keep the attention and make it enjoyable to the reader. I’ve been told by previous professors and students I have a unique way of thinking and writing and that I need to try to organize my thoughts more. So if I t seems I drift from time to time I do and don’t mean to but if I don’t focus in on my thoughts right then while studying I feel it’s a piece of information lost for myself as well as whomever would read or need it then. Information changes every second. In fact when I post this many things would have changed and new information would have replaced what you are reading now. That is why it is important for me to know where to start in finding material to work with. When considering the type and size of project I will need to know where to start to gather my material and information to complete assignment in a timely matter. Allowing time to do the proper research and organize notes and drafts and final copies. Without a starting point we will not meet our goals and submit projects not to the standards set forth by the school and professors. Not knowing where to start can hinder even the most organized student, causing panic and term oil giving one the fear of failure and having this will make others around them not wanting to continue and lower the group moral for success. I find it always good to know your surroundings and be prepared for the worse. When caught off guard you will not sink far and help is only a click away.

For the second part of this assignment, visit the South University Online Library. You can do this by clicking the "Library and Tutoring Services" link located under Course Home on the left side of your screen. Click "Launch Library." After accessing the library, complete the following:

1. Select two databases from your program of study (From the "Browse by Subject" option on the Library Homepage, click on your major and select two databases from the available list that appears after you click on your major. Or, you may click on the "Find Articles" link on the Library Homepage.)

2. Explain how these databases will help you find the information you need to complete your course assignments.

3. Describe how you see yourself using the library as you continue your academic and professional pursuits.

Part two:

The two databases I have chosen for this part of the assignment are ProQuest Computing and ProQuest Entrepreneurship. With these two data bases I can research the history of computing and how it has changed over the years in development and design as well as way we use them in our everyday living. In sense of entrepreneurship with wanting to go into my own freelance business this database would provide me with samples if not templates I will be able to use to start up my business and some guides to do so. By viewing the videos and information on these two sites I will be able to get a better understanding of what a computer actually is and how useful it has become as well as how to use it for profit. Many good resources are available in these databases and having them available will make my writing essays and reports throughout college will make it easier and less stressing, resulting in passing material and passing grades.

Hello my Gentle readers I’m Walter I live in a small rural town of Corsicana, TX, its 50 miles or so both north and south of the two major cities of Dallas and Waco TX. I am continuing my education here at South University in honor of two close people I loss here over this last Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Season. They were my previous bosses and friends whom I grown to known after 14 y ears of service. Leading to unemployment and the things that tag along. Know school is to start soon my computer decides to take the turn for the worst. The restoring process and program install. I need not go on about that. AS I Mentioned it’s an honor to be here for this is my 4^th attempt to make this college thing work within the last few years and all sorts of chances to do this course not here of course. But each school has a different way of teaching and materials. So I am set and bound to graduate in honor of my bosses and show myself it is the creation from a little something to a person of success and knowledge to conquer the dreams of childhood at whatever cost it takes.

Now I am not the best writer and haven’t really had the need to write a lot in my career well not in the IT professional, or other business type form and fashion. I ten d to ramble on and my mind wonders on thoughts and stuff I want to say so I jot it down right away while I type and work It in somehow as we will learn in this course we all are different in ways we learn and live but one in the sense of teamwork to overcome the barriers that lie ahead of us on this journey to our destined living. I said living for it’s what you’re here to learn a career is something to me that is a tool to get you to your living the training process our parents didn’t have time to tell us in all those 18 years that had us in their control. Well can go on into that but I’m really here to obtain my degree in web and graphic design. After attaining this degree and while working toward it I plan to start my own small freelance web design business and make history that way somehow.

Ok before I end it here I want to add a few more personal insights to kind of wrap rest of the topic up in a nutshell sort of way. This course and the contents that are given to us to use is about self. And an s the first reading is about change we will see this in ourselves as we discover more about our inner beings and prepare our minds to absorb this mass amount of change and transformation. I myself hope that by the end of this course I have a better understanding of who I really am in the career sense of way and where I am about to be heading in this journey towards my living. So that I may in return give back what I have been given and share to those just beginning out in life. So they might not have to struggle like have for the lessons of life to guide them on the path of an honest and hard working living. Dreams will come true if and when you open up to yourself and discover your abilities and use them in ways towards accomplishment and not destruction. My goals may sound farfetched and unreachable to some but with the right conditioning of the mind and personal items anyone can achieve greatness and goals that once were set and not finished, we are given chances in life and if not taken the right way will fail. Some of us never have second or third chances and never accomplish anything and that someone will not be me.

Ok enough I hope you got something out of this I just don’t write as one would think but it’s up for improvement also somewhere in the next 4 yrs…. Oh me I almost forgot there is a monster that lurks in and around everyone and they cannot deny it our friend called PRCRASTINATION you see if there were a way I can get paid by the government for a college in this subject I would be rich. Well enough of that that is another time and week I think lol the best defense against this monster is activity and personally being unemployed for the time being I must stay active in school more now then I did in the past for this is my chance of change once again and I’m not letting this one slip by.

welcome back to our corner here on the web, and welcome if this is your first time reading this blog, as read the post yesterday after posting it for you to read i notice grammar and more errors but hey i will clear this up now so ya’ll don’t comment about the grammar etc. i am one that does not do these things often and write being in the cafe world for a long era (20+ years). i see no need to write like i am here. but any ways things will imp prove as i go on through college and type more then i could ever wish. Ok to My TOP Family hi. TOP when seen in my writings stand for The Other Place ( former employment of 14 years) and you can guess where the other 6+ yrs are from lol.

hello my gentle readers welcome to 2011 if no one has done that yet but i’, sure they have. Anyway lets talk about what and why your here today . you have either click on a link from my Facebook feed Well to tell you in a nut shell we all have blogs on the web these days in one way or the other with all the social networks out there we blog in one way or the other.

well i am using my talents and free services that are out there to make money and that is why i renamed this blog as “KWLT Market Place” it will have links to products through out my stores on Amazon.com . Your purchases in these stores will earn me about 10% of your purchase . this is not a full time job for me at the moment but may turn that way if things advance . You see my last day of full time employment happened in an fatality of my bosses on Christmas Eve 2010. After 14 years of dedicated service to my former employer i am out of work. but having some sense of training mainly on my own of web design and such I am launching this blog to help me maintain some sort of income if any.

After having loosing my employment and income stream I thought of how i can make money to survive and pay my bills so i come to this point and ask, like many sites out there for the support of the world wide web. As stated earlier i only make about 10% of each sale depending on items, not making a full time living of this but the future is yet to come.

Now let me tell you that personally i am attending or will be college online for BS in information and technology. Planning to open my own web and graphic design business. un till i must survive at any cost and get through college and learn.

How to Succeed in Your Home-Based Business

Although no one can guarantee that your home-based business will bring you the fame and fortune you hope it will, if you work hard, price your products and services right, and keep your customers satisfied, you stand a good chance of doing just that. The results you get out of your business are a direct result of the work you put into it.

Do what you love

To do what you love, you first have to know what kind of work you really want to do. This requires intense introspection and an understanding of which kinds of work get your creative juices flowing and which kinds dry them up. Doing what you love also sometimes requires that you ignore what other people want you to do for a living. You may decide, for example, that you'd really like to start a recording studio in your home, but your spouse or best friend may think something more practical, such as buying into a fast-food franchise, makes more sense. Ultimately, you must decide what you're going to do for a living — even if it means you can't work at home.

Treat your business like a business

If you want your business to be a business — an organization that generates the kind of money you need to become financially independent — you have to treat it like one, not like a hobby or a momentary fling. Here are some ideas:

Set aside a real home office — not just a closet or a shelf — exclusively for your business.
Make an investment in business equipment and supplies: a decent computer, extra phone lines, a fax machine, and whatever else you decide you need to run your operation.
Create a marketing plan and marketing materials.

Manage your cash
flow

Cash, or the lack of it, is one of the key indicators of a company's success over the long run. If you have cash, you can buy and stock new products for your customers, develop innovative new services for your clients, pay for your day-to-day operations, and expand your operations. If you don't have cash, your business will certainly suffer, and so will your customers and clients.

It's not enough to simply watch your cash flow — the money going in and out of your business — you've also got to manage it. Build a solid customer base

Building a solid customer base is much easier said than done. Word-of-mouth referrals are probably the least expensive and the most effective way of getting new business. This makes referrals the most important way for home-based businesses to market themselves. Here are several of the best ways of earning great referrals from customers:

Do great work: When you do great work, your clients are happy to give you great referrals. Do less-than-great work, and you'll be lucky to get any referrals.
Do your work on time and within budget: If you consistently deliver on your promises, you'll soon have more business than you could ever imagine possible. And you'll earn your clients' referrals.
Keep your clients well informed: When clients spend their money on you, they want to be kept apprised of your progress, not only to stay in touch with the project, but also to keep a watchful eye out for problems before they get out of hand. Do your clients a favor, and keep them informed about your project's progress. Whether the news is good or bad, your clients and customers will appreciate your forthrightness and candor.
Be dependable: If anything, you should always keep your word — even when it hurts. If you promise to do something, do everything in your power to keep your promise, no matter what it takes to follow through on it.
Be flexible: Customers and clients appreciate vendors who are flexible and willing to meet their needs, no matter what those needs are. Not only that, but also, they will pay more for that flexibility. Think what you can do in your business to better meet your customers' needs.
Thank your clients for their referrals: Everyone likes to be appreciated for what they do. Your customers are no different. Be sure to thank them for their referrals with a hand-signed card or small gift.

mifi_logo_dec_08.jpgNovatel Wireless last week announced it will release the MiFi, a portable wireless router that will deliver wireless 3G data network access to multiple users in a small area. Much the same size as a credit card, the sleek looking MiFi will let users select access to EVDO or HSPA high speed data networks.

This 'cloud' of high-speed Internet connectivity that MiFi offers can be shared not only between users, but between devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players. Perfect for carpooling and relieving boredom in the back seat during that long road trip with kids - think Nintendo DS or Sony PSP - the MiFi will support up to five users simultaneously.

In addition to being a portable Internet hotspot, the EVDO blog notes that the MiFi has an onboard Linux processor capable of hosting software applications and additional content storage capabilities via MicroSD.
