This website is for both holiday property owners and holiday makers looking for somewhere to stay in Yorkshire, it will have listings of flats, hotels, caravans B&B's and other properties.

Property owners can add their property for a measly £50 per year and holiday makers can search the listings for free...

Twycross Zoo

Our youngest daughter loves animals and is in the middle of GCSE's at the moment so to give her a bit of a break we went to Twycross zoo last sunday, It's almost a hundred miles from us so we set off quite early.. about 8.15 i think.. anyway we got there just as it was opening at 10am.

We had a really good day and I thoroughly reccommend it for a good day out

Didn't realise it had been this long since I posted in here.. oh well.

Aero is now nearly a year old (it's her birthday this friday), we now have another dog too, she is a Jack Russell/Yorkshire Terrier cross called Sasha and her and Aero are getting along famously.

It doesn't look like the turtles have survived the winter in the pond, there has been no sign of them despite the recent very warm weather :(

well, it's been a while again hasn't it.... the turtles have now gone into the pond in the garden and they love it.

we now have a chocolate labrador puppy called Aero, she is almost 3 months old and gorgeous.

We went out for a ride to an exotic pet shop on sunday morning, just to have a look really because we had heard they had meerkats and marmosets, so we thought we'd check 'em out... anyway with us being the idiots we are we came away with a veiled chameleon, she looks a bit like this one, only not as big.

done a new website.. www.dogworld-uk.com, its just a front door to a forum really and it is a bit basic because I've signed up for Windows Live Basics which gives you a free domain name, free hosting and stuff but it's very restricting in what you can do. It's good for beginners though so if you fancy a domain name and website for free take a look.
enough of that

The website and forum www.dogworld-uk.com, I am hoping, will give a place for dog owners or just dog interested people to meet, make friends, have a chat and exchange information. Take a look.

I've made a forum for the site, it's hosted on a different server so some things are not as configurable as I would like but it is pretty easy to set up so I've gone for it.

hi all

been a while, i've been busy and not lol.

pond is doing ok, not much to do really during the winter. Netty's dollshouse is looking really good, i'll have to get some photo's sorted out.

We now have some turtles (yellow bellied sliders) in a tank in the house, they could go in the pond i'm told but i think they would eat the fish and that's not good. They are only small at the moment (maybe 2 inches long) but they will grow to maybe 10 inches.

erm.. what else have i been doing?? erm.. oh yes, working on a new website, i'm not running it but i'm doing the site itself and the database backend for it, if any of you are looking to rent an apartment in tenerife or you have an apartment in tenerife that you want to rent out, then check out http://www.lowcost-apartments-tenerife.com, it's only £50 a year to advertise your apartment.

somebody called "Richard" has posted a comment but for some reason it has not shown up, so sorry Richard.

Pond is still doing well, lost no more fish and the plants are really taking off, in fact some of them are in danger of covering the pond lol.

Did I tell you we made a couple of covers for it?? to keep out cats and herons and stuff? anyway we did, a few lengths of 2 by1 and some galvanised steel mesh, looks a bit obtrusive but when we are sat in the garden we can lift them off anyway so it's ok.

Just a quick update.

The pond is doing well only lost 2 fish, 2 small red & white goldfish, all the rest are doing fine, the plants are looking good, growing like mad and all in all it's excellent. We have mad two covers for the pond to protect it from cats, herons and our Chrissie :) We made two frames from 2by1 and put 13mm galvanised steel mesh across them, we can just lift them off when needed, good stuff.

Dolls house is very nearly all decorated, lights are in and 2 working fireplaces, i would imagine she'll be buying furniture and stuff very shortly.

RIP Steve Irwin - Crocodile Hunter, a great conservationist, tv star and family man, he will be missed.

been a bit busy lately, Netty bought a doll's house and we have been busy building and decorating it, it's looking good so far.
this is a picture of the kind of house it is, her's isn't decorated the same as this one and we dont have the basement or plinth but its this house.

I got 3 koi for the pond on sunday, they are about 10", beautiful fish, don't know the type of koi they are but 2 of them have really gorgeous sky blue backs and the other is mainly orange with black stripes running down it's spine. no doubt one of you will be able to tell me the names??

got some more fish in the pond now, I know it's supposedly too soon but goldfish are hardier than people say and besides the 4 little ones that were in there looked completely lost in the big pond so we bought a few more little ones and a couple of bigger ones, they seem to be doing ok.
started training them to hand feed and it's going ok, they are coming to my hand now but not actually taking food, won't be long though.

netty has wanted a dolls house for years so on sunday we finally bought one and it's massive, god knows where we are going to put it, we got it from Woodstock Miniatures at Markham Grange garden center near Doncaster, what a place that is, everything you need and the bloke that runs it is so friendly and informative it's unbelievable.
It came in kit form and we got it built and the exterior painted on sunday and yesterday, from now on it's nothing to do with me, she needs to start planning the interior and then get a better paid job to pay for it all, it looks good though so far.

the pond is finished, well apart from a bit of concreting.
plants are in, fish are in, i know it's too soon for fish but we had to empty the old little pond so they have gone in the new one, there's only 4 so they should be ok.
photos to follow when i can get my hands on the camera... netty seems to have claimed it as hers.. she's doing a photo diary of the building of the pond.

poind is filled, electrics are dug in, flags are cemented down, going to look at plants tomorrow, it's looking good.
it's not perfect, in fact far from it, i'm not good at measuring and levelling and stuff but it's a pond which is something i've wanted for years and it's been built by me & netty and it's ours.

Anyway the pond is dug, carpeted, linered(?) and nearly filled, just gotta get some cement now to do the flags round the edges and we'll be laughing.

We were gonna build the walls of the pond with railway sleepers till I priced them up on the internet yesterday, we were looking at £500-£600, there is no way I'm paying that so I think we are gonna build it with concrete blocks, should be a bit cheaper I think.

We have now had a change of heart about the pond and are going to build a bigger one, a raised one with an 18" to 2ft wall and a safety cover to stop the little bugger climbing in.
So now all we gotta do is plan it, build it, dig it, line it, fill it, filter it, pump it, plant it and stock it!!

just finished work and now it's time for my 2 days off.. woo woo

was thinking off digging a new pond but we have decided it's too dangerous for our Chrissy (grandson) so i'm gonna try and get a better filter and pump for the small pond we already have and try to sort it out, it's covered in algae and blanket weed at the mo.
trouble is it's too small so it doesn't look after itself and needs a lot of time spent on it. the bigger the pond the easier to maintain.
