Moved little Achilles out of big pond into small pond, just didn’t seem right watching him trying to compete with the larger Koi for his food, he is looking very happy now, while I was out at Barnsley yesterday I could not resist getting him a couple of new friends around the same size to play with.

Hi Keith, good luck with the new ones.
I think Crell's right - popular "off the shelf" treatments wouldn't be popular for very long if they had that effect. I'd be looking a little deeper.
Anyway, fingers crossed. Regards, Richard.

had air going through my nexus 200 and a an extra pump through an earation bar, so had plenty of air going in. i work for the NHS and had the answer tested and they found copper and zink plus Calcium Carbonate. the cacium carbonate is what makes it go milky. and we know copper is a big no no for koi. but there again everybody's pond is different. have just bought some new koi from cascade at bury 6 for £50. lets see what happens. keith

you didn't say anything about airation it pays to put extra airation in pond when treating as maybe with being over run with blanket weed as it dies it may have effected the oxygen levels , not sure if that is the case as im no expert, just a thought though

Hi Mike,

I have trickle in/out since first keeping koi, the benefits are great, it will balance your ph,kh, nitrates etc, and also freshing up the pond water, it is easy to fit , i plumbed mine in on the build of my pond, by insulating the water pipe underground and coming up into the side of the pond, with the overflow inserted in the top of the chamber in the multibay,Please be aware that the water goes through a purifier before going into the pond.

A must in a Koi Pond even the Great Waddy swears by this.

Regards Paul

If you go to your local windscreen spot (autoglass) they would sell you some what we call in the trade chease wire, its a saw but on a wire. All you do is start on a corner with it with the wire tucked behide the glass and saw (mole grips on each end of the wire to hold it).Once you get across and thru one corner pull the wire thru so you have a lenth of wire at each side of the glass and you away,Just saw all the way round and its job done mate.
I have used this product manytimes at full doseage with no adverse effect on the koi.

do not like adding to my water, but the blanket weed was so bad had to do something. so i used cloverleaf blanket answer. used it at half doseage, but after 3 or 4 weeks not shifted so dosed again at half dose. that killed the blanket weed but then started losing fish. have lost about 25 fish so gutted as some where very nice and had grown them on. the pond has been heated all winter to about 15 degrees. my wife would not go upto the pond for weeks as she was so upset. have done a few water changes and all the params are now ok. i had a spike with the ph upto 9 but got that back down to 8. keith

I know this will not go down too well with some people, but I used to be a pest controller and to permanently get rid of those unwanted pests we were advised to use the following, but it is final and it is not choosy about its victims.
Place a saucer of milk and putbetween five to ten drops of Tippex into it.
Whatever drinks it will have a heart attack within an hour.
Result... No more problem.
Unfortunatley if it is a Heron it will not be able to drink the milk unles it is placed in a deepish item.

hi ian

theres alot to consider with a heatpump
i fiited a crystal clear waters 8.5kw heat pump to my 3000gal pond heated pond to 18 dec from november last year and my electric bill was an extra £250 1/4 (£20 a week) i would always recommend doubling your kw to your gal for example 1000gal use a 2 kw unit if funds allow! i have had no issue with mine if you need to know more on how the system works and the cop etc , let me know ?

regards

my advice ozz is dont do it.You will have nothing but problems with blanketweed and food etc etc etc snagging on it. i did it once and regretted it. i actually ended up with a full blockage .i used a boss so i could shut my slide valve but if somebody has given you an aerated drain top and you want to use it you would still be far better off seeing black 8mm airline in the pond. just my opinion cheers

Seems abit of a way off at the mo, but i,m considering heating the water. Been speaking to Darren at Absolute Koi and have been discussing a duraheat pump ??. It would have to be retro fitted which suits me. We talked about the costs and because of the way it works it sounds very effiicient. Can anyone add anything to this, pro and cons and maybe any alternatives. Thanks.

Hi

I have just dicovered 2no fish that have one pop eye, I have checked the water and everything is good, I have also done a scrape and could not find anything apart from one small black ring which I could not identify, the only differance is that the water temerature has gone upto 22c.

I have read the topic from Peter M which is identical to mine and I also have not had any problems for many years.

Help please Peter
