A great technology based website slash series of podcasts is TWIT.tv. Leo Laporte and Paul Thurrott host the now popular and my personal favorite podcast, Windows Weekly. They cover great, up-to-date topics around Microsofts very own Windows. Anything and everything Windows based is covered.

Another great podcast from Leo with guest host Steve Gibson of GRC.com and creator of the ever popular Spinrite, is Security Now! Leo and Steve cover great security topics that are good for tech heads like me to know like new viruses and security holes with multiple devices such as Apple devices, Microsoft devices, and other things like cell phones and such.

Well in my own personal opinion, yes! Apple has finally made completed what I believe is the complete package. When the first 3G was released with a camera that couldn’t record video, zoom or focus I thought, WTF. Now the new 3Gs has 3 mega pixel camera that does all three of those things.

What else can we expect? As I mentioned in my other post about this, Cut&Paste, MMS, and a landscape keyboard. Its cool. But also there will be the ability to edit videos, record voice memo’s, create slideshows and more.

Apples new iPhone will be release June 17th with two price points. The 16GB (now the low end option) for $199 and the 32GB version (new) for $299. So what happened to the 8GB 3G? Apple is dropping the price to $99 so they can sell out of that model. Great opportunity for those without an iPhone to get one.

What about those that already have an iPhone. “Im not paying another $200+ for another iPhone!” Well you don’t have to. The firmware upgrade, which is free, will also be available on June 17th for those who want to upgrade. The only difference is, obviously you won’t have the 3MP camera, you can’t record videos, you won’t get the cool new compass (but there are plenty of apps for that), won’t be able to edit photo’s, and no voice control. Eh Well! You still get the cut, copy and paste, MMS, landscape keyboard, and more.

And don’t worry Manufacturers, you don’t have to worry. SATA 3.0 is backwards compatible via a new connector provided to allow for your current 2.0 hardware to work.

Microsoft started running a new ad campaign giving consumers $1500 to make a choice between laptops, and of course the commercials show each consumer looking at Apples first and due the high price, the consumer always chooses a PC! Ha Ha! Well I won’t get into that argument. The world was just attacked by the wonderful Conficker/Conflicker Worm. Did it get you? Wanna know how to protect yourself? How was your week? In order to increase income earned, you must increase traffic, right? Well, in order to do that, you either must know a lot of people or you need to get into the search engines. Preferably on the first page. I am no expert but this was pointed out by someone whom I consider an expert at this

First: Google’s crawlers crawl your blog searching for updated material that can be submitted to their search engine, just like Yahoo and MSN and others. There is a way to format your site in order for the crawlers to crawl the content first. That is, by the way, what you want and the key to this whole trick. It makes no sense to have the menu, or anything else read by the crawlers first. As for your readers, well fortunately, they are given the ability to make decisions, we hope. Therefore, your menu can be listed in your sidebar just as easily. Actually on a lot of blogs I have been to, the menu is both on the side and top, which makes no sense.

So then you ask, well, “your blog has the menu at the top?” Yes it does, and currently I am working to change themes for both, TheYoungGuy.com and HardwareBlogPortal.com to improve my blog traffic.

Second: How do you test this. Well, being in this wonderful world we live in, there is a way do just about everything and this is no exception. Google recommends you use a program called LYNX TEXT BROWSER to visually see your blog in text only format. It is a wonderful tool to use. Lynx will display your blog in the exact order the crawlers will read it.

A few key things to understand. One, crawlers do not read javascript. Whats this mean? Well, it means that your beautiful adsense ads are not crawled by the crawlers. Therefore ad-placement will not effect the crawlers. And Two, You may have read posts from top names, like Darren Rowse, better known as Problogger, state that he prefers “writing for humans”. You have to understand the difference in writing the content and designing your site. I 100% agree with Darren on this topic. When it comes to writing the actual posts, it is important they don’t sound robotic in nature, like they are designed for the crawlers. But setting up your site to allow the crawlers direct access to your content is very important.

Bottom line, when choosing your blog theme, make sure you think about what you are truly trying to do. If making money, driving traffic, or both is your objective, make sure your theme is setup in such a way, the crawlers will see content first. I hope this helps some of you out, it really did me.
