Let's talk about spring! I love spring! Actually my favorite part is the lack of snow, but the colors of spring come in a close second :-)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/2016/01/fashion-friday-spring-jewelry-part-one.html" target="_blank">Last week</a>, I introduced you to our first two trends for spring, Boho Beauty and Pop of Polish. Today, let's chat about the other two trends in our new spring jewelry, Modern Organics and Unforgettable Romantics.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYIMA96tWU3LbIfxa3yvM7c-vhrV3rxSewBO95tzrKayX1gHQlaA3URNV7zyuTEoT0Wd8dYPHYyDEABiIYGqZrCDxY0u2elcaEVsDBfSIarHw2oLKe3VST3cAMY501jGImSZjN-Q0bfXk/s1600/Modern+Organics.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYIMA96tWU3LbIfxa3yvM7c-vhrV3rxSewBO95tzrKayX1gHQlaA3URNV7zyuTEoT0Wd8dYPHYyDEABiIYGqZrCDxY0u2elcaEVsDBfSIarHw2oLKe3VST3cAMY501jGImSZjN-Q0bfXk/s640/Modern+Organics.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is sort of the opposite of Pop of Polish. Think toned down colors. Neutrals like browns, grays, and turquoise. Simple yet eye-catching pieces.</div>

I can't remember for sure, but I think it's been about 5 years since we went...like I think this was Shane's first time. Unless my mom took them, which is possible because she's awesome like that.<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, they had a great time! I made it all field-trip-like by having the older two draw a picture of an animal they saw and write the name of said animal in a field journal. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nate had to do at least one. He did one. A tiny one. Wrote the bare minimum and scampered off.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kahlen had to do at least 3. She did 5. And colored them in with colored pencils. And wrote their scientific name and common name. And took pictures of the animal and the sign.</div>

<div style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.4px; margin-bottom: 14px; padding: 0px;">
<strong><i>When truth doesn’t make sense, will lies prevail?</i></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.4px; margin-bottom: 14px; margin-top: -4px; padding: 0px;">
<i>Cathy Cramer is a former lawyer and investigative blogger who writes commentary on high-profile homicides. When she finds a threatening note warning her that she’s about to experience the same kind of judgment and speculation that she dishes out in her blog, Cathy writes it off as mischief . . . until her brother’s wife is murdered and all the “facts” point to him. The killer has staged the crime to make the truth too far-fetched to believe. Working to solve the murder and clear her brother’s name, Cathy and her two sisters, Holly and Juliet, moonlight as part-time private investigators. Juliet, a stay-at-home mom of two boys, and Holly, a scattered ne’er-do-well who drives a taxi, put aside their fear to hunt down the real killer.</i></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.4px; margin-top: -4px; padding: 0px;">
<i>Stakes rise when their brother’s grieving five-year-old son is kidnapped. As police focus on the wrong set of clues, the three sisters and their battered detective friend are the only hope for solving this bizarre crime, saving the child, and freeing their brother.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
It's been awhile since I read this book, but I never got around to writing my review about it.<br />
<br />
What can I say? I love all of Terri Blackstock's books, and this is no exception!<br />
A few things I enjoy about her writing: the books are suspenseful, easy to read, and well thought out.<br />
This is book one in a trilogy, which I also enjoy because it means the story keeps going.<br />
<br />
This book in particular has an excellent balance of all the characters, with good family dynamics and a bit of romance thrown in there. If you have a hard time following a lot of characters, then you might not like this one, but I thought it was well written and a fun read.<br />
<br />
If you like suspense books, then this is one I would definitely recommend!<br />

Monday came and Monday went. We had a long and strange weekend thanks to a dear friend needing to go to the ER for appendicitis. Very glad we were able to help but it threw things off a bit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="background-color: transparent; clear: both; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.8px;">

Last week I made all 5 meals on the menu, amazing!! Kahlen helped me with the <a href="http://ourbestbites.com/2008/08/guiltless-alfredo-sauce/" style="background-color: transparent; color: #990099; line-height: 20.8px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Guiltless Fettuccine Alfredo</a><span style="line-height: 20.8px;"> with chicken</span><span style="line-height: 20.8px;"> instead of the </span><a href="http://www.frugalfamilyhome.com/food/recipes/4-weeks-of-frugal-recipes-day-six-cheeseburger-biscuits" style="background-color: transparent; color: #990099; line-height: 20.8px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Cheeseburger Pies</a> that I thought she would want to help with, but I'm glad for that because it means she's learning new recipes. The <a href="https://onceamonthmeals.com/recipes/ranch-cheddar-burgers/" style="background-color: transparent; color: #990099; line-height: 20.8px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Ranch Cheddar Burgers</a><span style="line-height: 20.8px;"> set off the smoke alarm. I think they do that every time, which would maybe suggest I should modify the recipe ;-)</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="background-color: transparent; clear: both; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.8px;">
So, here's what we'll be eating. I try to balance out types of food, but given our variable schedule, I no longer try to plan for a certain type of food on certain nights of the week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="background-color: transparent; clear: both; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.8px;">

Monday - Leftovers. We had pizza from Papa Murphys on Sunday, and still had other stuff in the fridge too.</div>

Tuesday - Chicken Tacos. Just the basic meat, beans, cheese, sour cream in a tortilla kind. With Tabasco for hubby and the little one.</div>

This week has been crazy in the evenings...when I usually blog! Hey, it takes awhile to get into a solid routine, right??<br />
<br />
Today I want to share with you some awesome new jewelry and the trends they represent. As I mentioned <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/2016/01/fashion-friday-january-8-just-do-it.html" target="_blank">last week</a>, I went to our regional rally last Saturday. The day was full of training, inspiration, and NEW JEWELRY! So I want to share a bit of that with you!<br />
<br />
A quick note about Premier Designs...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Another reason why I love Premier Designs!: " height="220" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/3f/6a/de/3f6adea82cf0ade12b053d7ec5ecb368.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
While I had a great time learning about the new jewelry at our conference, what I really loved about the day was being refreshed in Premier's Philosophy, Purpose, and Plan. These aren't just things we say, these are things we really mean. From the top all the way to the newest jeweler. I love this company! They're in to their second generation of leadership, and things are NOT changing, I love it!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Okay, back to jewelry.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Our spring collection features 31 new pieces in four hot trends. I'm going to share two of the trends this week and the other two next week.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

Auriella is special. How special we don't yet know. She is an orphan and must flee her home only to fall in with a witch, dwarves, pixies, fairies, knights, and even nobility. All as she is discovering who she really is and what special powers she possesses. She must endure many trials and hardships along the way, but she perseveres and becomes the Knight of Light.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>What I liked:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The overall concept of the book was fun. The world in the book has enough fantasy but enough reality to make it relateable and easy to understand. The author uses common fantasy characters, such as pixies, dwarves, and fairies that really needed little explanation. The main character is easy to like, which is good :-)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>What I didn't like:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The character development was very shallow. The book moved to fast to really tell a good deep story. There were some significant plot elements that got glossed over in a page or so where it could have really deepened the story and the credibility and personality of the characters. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Overall, this book was a fun read, and I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series, but I am hoping that the characters are developed more as the series progresses.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Oh yea, it's Monday. I mean, not that I really forgot, but it's hard to get back into the routine of blogging again. Mondays are sort of hard to miss.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Last week I made 4 out of the 6 meals I planned to, just like I thought I would. Life gets busy, plans get shifted, and dinners don't always go off the way you think they will. Yesterday I hosted a <a href="http://www.lularoe.com/" target="_blank">LuLaRoe </a>party here and my dear husband offered to buy us a frozen lasagna from the store so I wouldn't have to cook. Tuesday we just had leftovers because we already had too many in our fridge. It was a good week :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So, here's what we'll be eating. I try to balance out types of food, but given our variable schedule, I no longer try to plan for a certain type of food on certain nights of the week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Monday - <a href="http://www.wendyweekendgourmet.com/2014/05/crispy-chicken-tortilla-rollups-for.html" target="_blank">Crispy Chicken Tortilla Rollups with Spicy Avocado Crema</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Tuesday - <a href="https://onceamonthmeals.com/recipes/ranch-cheddar-burgers/" target="_blank">Ranch Cheddar Burgers</a> with salad and potato chips</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Wednesday - <a href="http://ourbestbites.com/2008/08/guiltless-alfredo-sauce/" target="_blank">Guiltless Fettuccine Alfredo</a> with chicken</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Thursday - <a href="http://www.frugalfamilyhome.com/food/recipes/4-weeks-of-frugal-recipes-day-six-cheeseburger-biscuits" target="_blank">Cheeseburger Pies</a> (Kahlen, my 9 year old, will be making these as I have to work that night)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Friday - <a href="http://www.farmgirlgourmet.com/2011/08/karas-all-day-spaghetti-sauce-lasagne.html" target="_blank">Lasagna Muffins</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Saturday - YOYO (You're On Your Own) By this time in the week, I'm all done cooking, not to mention the fridge is usually stuffed full of bits of leftovers :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Sunday - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've been making about 4 out of the 6 meals I plan in a week, so we'll see which ones get ditched as the week goes. I'll be gone three nights this week for various reasons, so we might just end up with spaghetti a few nights :-P</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So, what are you making this week? Anything I should "steal" from you?? Go check out some more great ideas at <a href="http://orgjunkie.com/2016/01/menu-plan-monday-jan-1116.html" target="_blank">I'm An Organizing Junkie</a>!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the reasons my blogging died off two years ago was because I started a home business with <a href="http://www.selayoung.mypremierdesigns.com/" target="_blank">Premier Designs</a> jewelry. After two full years, I have learned a thing or two about fashion ;-) And I continue to learn. Tomorrow I will head off to our regional rally which will be filled with training and recognition and new jewelry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fridays will be a place to share something fashion related. It will probably mostly be jewelry related, since that's what my business is about, but not always. Like today. Not only about jewelry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I titled this post Just Do It because I want to address something I hear very often. Like every day often. And it's just not true. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"I can't wear that much jewelry" "I just don't look good in jewelry" "Oh, I could never pull off that look"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You know what? You CAN! Just do it. Give it a try. Put it on and walk out the door. Sometimes, it won't be a hit, but other times you'll surprise yourself and others! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are a few examples:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOcCtmBHPFHzT7I53Y7PnSAQZn-YgOH_db1PNI1FVhJ_m-VUAOBJPO0yUdtr8OKF_A7Gnh_ZLPNu_YU42XWZHTwHX_-JQxJQnBf0Zfrq7RVTwz5Usy1JIjAvgIQSkjhLzkdE61tqMga1I/s1600/2016-01-06+13.14.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOcCtmBHPFHzT7I53Y7PnSAQZn-YgOH_db1PNI1FVhJ_m-VUAOBJPO0yUdtr8OKF_A7Gnh_ZLPNu_YU42XWZHTwHX_-JQxJQnBf0Zfrq7RVTwz5Usy1JIjAvgIQSkjhLzkdE61tqMga1I/s400/2016-01-06+13.14.15.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Check out those leggings! I mean, seriously. Okay, I got these as a purchase with purchase, so I didn't pick the pattern. Turns out I love them. And I love wearing them in public to see how many people do a double take or comment or whatever. They're just fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqpWD4ctX3x6g1Pz-_4zoq1rGK7botHHAUAYtO7NniDr29KYhZ11lKB5uBZWjmOh9USrFBnBonESVoSnYPZxNU84NVNitVvVcjzsKuFmhbFpoYvv8siZCpVBfORX8vqsHYmKOy03lWuMk/s1600/2015-05-10+13.04.03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqpWD4ctX3x6g1Pz-_4zoq1rGK7botHHAUAYtO7NniDr29KYhZ11lKB5uBZWjmOh9USrFBnBonESVoSnYPZxNU84NVNitVvVcjzsKuFmhbFpoYvv8siZCpVBfORX8vqsHYmKOy03lWuMk/s320/2015-05-10+13.04.03.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's another one. When I put this jewelry on, I thought "Whoa, way too much!" but I cannot tell you how many compliments I got that day! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, that's my fashion tip for the day. Just do it. No one is stopping you but yourself. There are no fashion police. Your (true) friends will tell you if it's a no go. I would. But I'll also be the first to tell you how awesome you look when you try that new look and you rock it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next week, I'll be featuring some of our new spring line of jewelry!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the mean time, if you want to take a peek at the jewelry starting tomorrow, check out my website <a href="http://www.selayoung.mypremierdesigns.com/" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And if you want some awesome leggings for your very own, come to my house Sunday between 7-9 for a LuLaRoe Pop-Up OR check out my online pop-up on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/1555330114757332/" target="_blank">Facebook </a>on Thursday night!</div>

And so I begin again. Counting graces. God is good in the big and the small, in the obvious and the minute, in the physical and the soul-spaces, in material and emotional.<br />
<br />

2. First day of school after break completed and successful<br />
3. Almost 4-year-old not complaining<br />

<br />
<br />
Here starts a new feature...<b>What We're Learning Wednesday!</b> Seeing as this started out as a blog primarily about our schooling journeys, I thought I should stick with that at least part of the time :-)<br />
<br />
Since we're almost half way through the year already, I'm going to point you to our <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/p/current-curriculum-choices.html" target="_blank">Current Curriculum</a> page first so you know what we're using. In the middle of our 16th week of school, I think we may have finally found a routine that more or less works for us.<br />
<br />
Also to get you all caught up on what we're doing around here, today I'm going to walk through a typical school week. Next week, I'll try to go over more specifics about what we're doing.<br />
<br />
Here goes...<br />
<b>Monday </b>- This actually seems like one of our easiest days usually. The kids are ready for the routine, and so am I!<br />
8:30ish We start with "reading" <a href="http://www.apologia.com/63-zoology-1" target="_blank">Zoology</a>, which we listen to on my phone (got it on Audible, but apparently they're not selling it right now). The kids do not have to sit at their desks or even sit still, as long as they're being mostly quiet and stay in the school room, they are allowed to play with one toy that their siblings are not playing with.<br />
<br />
9:15ish <a href="http://store.mathusee.com/" target="_blank">Math </a>comes next, which is still where I get the most complaining. *sigh* It will probably always be this way. Anyhoo, after we watch the lesson video, the older two sit at their desks and do two pages front and back (I know, I'm so mean) while I do school with Shane.<br />
We're using pretty much the same things that Kahlen and I did when she was this age, but a little bit less on the art projects, mostly because I just don't have time AND the other two would want to do it too. No thank you. So it's pretty much all worksheets that we do together from 1+1+1=1's <a href="http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/RaisingRockStarsPreschool.html" target="_blank">Raising Rockstars Preschool</a> and Confessions of a Homeschooler's <a href="http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/letter-of-the-week" target="_blank">Letter of the Week</a>.<br />
<br />
10:00ish Recess! and morning snack. And mom's time to do her bible study. I put a timer on and they run around like crazy people for 15 minutes while I sit quietly and work on my bible study. When it was warm, I "made" them go outside during this time, but that doesn't work as well when it's 20 degrees outside :/<br />
<br />
10:20ish We split up. This time, Kahlen helps Shane with his slideshow from Raising Rockstars, while I help Nate practice piano and then <a href="https://peacehillpress.com/p/first-language-lessons-level-1/" target="_blank">First Language Lessons</a>. Kahlen and Shane play on my computer until we're done. They can go to <a href="http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load.htm" target="_blank">Starfall</a>, <a href="http://pbskids.org/" target="_blank">PBS Kids</a>, or a few other learning websites.<br />
<br />
11:00ish Lunch prep. Kids either have free time or they do their daily chores, it depends on their attitudes and my energy level. If they want to get done earlier in the day with everything that's required of them, they'll do their chore. Or if I'm feeling super energetic, they do their chore. Otherwise, they get the run of the house while I make lunch.<br />
<br />
12:00ish After lunch, it's definitely time for their daily chores if they haven't done them already. This may include cleaning the bathrooms, folding their laundry, picking up the living room, school room, bedrooms, sweeping the kitchen and dining room, wiping down the door knobs and light switches (a perfect chore for Shane), or special assignments as they come up.<br />
<br />
12:30 Episode time! And thank you Netflix for making it so easy. They get a break, I actually get to eat lunch, check Facebook, read part of a book, or whatever for 24 minutes<br />
<br />
1:00 Shane's naptime, although I think this is coming to an end. Up until one week ago, he was taking a good solid 2.5-3 hour nap every day. The last few days, not so much. We'll just have to see what happens with that, because I still need him to be down for at least two hours for everyone else's sake!<br />
We start with our Zoology notebooking, which has been very light this year. We're actually planning on doing two years of Zoology this year, so we've mostly just been reading the text and not really doing any of the hands on projects.<br />
Bible study comes after notebooking. It's been a struggle to get their lessons and mine done this year, since Nate doesn't want to/can't read or write his answers and Kahlen's study requires quite a bit more thought than the younger grade book. But we persevere. I often don't get mine completed, but since we're all studying the same thing, I'm still learning from their lessons.<br />
Next is reading. Kahlen is reading some very long chapter books this year and doing amazingly well! This week, it's an abridged version of The Time Machine. Before break it was Little House on the Prairie.<br />
Nate is solidly where he should be in <a href="http://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/All-About-Reading-Level-2/" target="_blank">All About Reading 2</a>. It's a challenge for him, but he's progressing very well!<br />
<br />
2:00/2:20ish DONE! This is why I need Shane to still be resting at least until 3. I take about an hour to do something I want to do or need to do (like blog, customer follow-up, nap, read a book, finish bible study) Kahlen and Nate are on their own for awhile, which usually means tablet time and that's okay with me.<br />
<br />
We're going to start doing a quick 5-10 minute pick up before daddy gets home too. It's something that I've done in the past but drifted away from, but it helps the evening go smoother for everyone.<br />
<br />
No wonder I'm tired at the end of Monday, that's a lot we get done! Moving on...<br />
<br />
<b>Tuesday - </b>Buela day! My mom takes the kids all day almost every Tuesday. I run errands, go to networking meetings, chiropractor adjustments, and anything else that I need to/want to do. It's glorious (Thanks mom!!).<br />
<br />
<b>Wednesday</b> - Mostly a repeat of Monday :-)<br />
The main difference is that we replace Zoology with Story of the World and we add in spelling in the afternoon for both Kahlen and Nate.<br />
<br />
<b>Thursday -</b> 1/2 day!<br />
We have Community Bible Study in the morning and don't get home until close to 1 because we either go out for lunch or have a picnic lunch and then we often go to the library or somewhere to play for an hour.<br />
After Shane goes down for his nap, we do about an hour's worth of school. They both have their math test, then reading, then whatever we didn't finish on Monday or Wednesday.<br />
<br />
<b>Friday</b> - <a href="http://www.frontieracademy.net/home-school" target="_blank">Frontier Homeschool Access program</a>. This homeschool enrichment program is almost an hour from my house, but well worth it! The kids get to take language, art, history, science, PE, and a variety of other classes. All things I could teach but don't really want to. Plus it's awesome to have some just Shane and Mom time :-) This year (and last year), I've been able to carpool with another family. She picks my kids up from my house and drives them to school, and I pick up all 5 kids from school and bring them back to my house. Overall, Nate and Kahlen enjoy it but they come home super tired and often cranky. I'm very glad we only have school somewhere else once a week!<br />
<br />
<br />
That's our typical week!! And just because they're cute...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yay! Menu plan Monday! I've missed being able to tell someone what I'm making this week, whether you've missed me or not :-) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just as a recap, I'm cooking for 7 people including 4 adults (me, hubs, Nana, and Papa) and the three little people who eat like adults in quantity but not palate. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last week I had the opportunity to clean out my recipe binder, you know, the place where I store all those awesome print outs of recipes that I find (and the little scraps of paper that I write ideas down on too). It was a complete mess, not to mention the dozens of recipes that we no longer make. The benefit was that I found some recipes in there that I am really excited to make this week!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, here's what we'll be eating. I try to balance out types of food, but given our variable schedule, I no longer try to plan for a certain type of food on certain nights of the week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Monday - <a href="http://www.galonamission.com/loaded-potato-casserole/" target="_blank">Loaded Potato Casserole</a> and Baked Chicken</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tuesday - <a href="https://onceamonthmeals.com/recipes/ranch-cheddar-burgers/" target="_blank">Ranch Cheddar Burgers</a> with salad and potato chips</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wednesday - <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/polish-pierogies-recipe.html" target="_blank">Polish Pierogies</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thursday - <a href="http://www.letsdishrecipes.com/2011/02/white-chicken-enchiladas-with-green-chile-sour-cream-sauce.html" target="_blank">White Chicken Enchiladas with Green Chile Sour Cream Sauce</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Friday - <a href="http://www.farmgirlgourmet.com/2011/08/karas-all-day-spaghetti-sauce-lasagne.html" target="_blank">Lasagna Muffins</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saturday - YOYO (You're On Your Own) By this time in the week, I'm all done cooking, not to mention the fridge is usually stuffed full of bits of leftovers :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sunday - <a href="http://www.wendyweekendgourmet.com/2014/05/crispy-chicken-tortilla-rollups-for.html" target="_blank">Crispy Chicken Tortilla Rollups with Spicy Avocado Crema</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been making about 4 out of the 6 meals I plan in a week, so we'll see which ones get ditched as the week goes. The pierogies are delicious but very time consuming. The lasagna muffins are one that I like but the rest of the fam not so much. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, what are you making this week? Anything I should "steal" from you?? Go check out some more great ideas at <a href="http://orgjunkie.com/2016/01/menu-plan-monday-jan-416.html" target="_blank">I'm An Organizing Junkie</a>!</div>

<br />
Anyhoo...Besides some pictures, I also wanted to tell you a few things I'll be starting for myself this week/month/year. The weekend posts are when I get to blog about anything I want or nothing at all :-)<br />
<br />
I just started a 14-day online course called "<a href="https://gr161.isrefer.com/go/MYM/selabear/" target="_blank">Make Over Your Mornings</a>" by Crystal Paine over at <a href="http://moneysavingmom.com/" target="_blank">Money Saving Mom</a> and I'm so excited to get started! I don't know about you, but mornings around here can be pretty crazy which lead to a cranky mommy, cranky kids, and an unproductive or at least chaotic day. Not to mention that I cannot remember the last time I had a good time in the Word without sacrificing a meal to get that. If that sounds like you, then go check it out! I'll try to post a few updates as to how it's going, but no promises.<br />
<a href="https://gr161.isrefer.com/go/MYM/selabear" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://cdn1.moneysavingmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/make-over-your-mornings-468-60.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I also printed out a <a href="http://benandme.com/category/grateful-2016" target="_blank">Grateful Journal </a>from Marcy over at <a href="http://benandme.com/" target="_blank">Ben and Me</a>. Again, nothing revolutionary, just something that I want to start up again.<br />
<br />
I have a few books that I want to read this year, but they're not coming to mind right now, so that list will have to wait for another bloggy day.<br />
<br />
I'll leave you with a few pictures from the kids' Christmas program at bible study. Nate was clear on the other side from me, so he's hard to see. Shane, being one of the little kids, got to be in the front :-)<br />

I had a great outdoor location selected, and it snowed that day. A lot. So the backup plan was inside a local hotel, complete with a life-size real gingerbread house.<br />
<br />
This year we went with black and red. My husband said "I like these colors, nice and simple. Why can't you pick good colors like this every year?" HA! I think he secretly just likes getting new dress shirts and when I pick something with white, he doesn't get anything new ;-)<br />

And a new plan for this here blog...I have no idea if anyone will actually read this since it's been a full 2 years since I've blogged ANYTHING but here goes!<br />
<br />
I *hate* the words "New Year's Resolutions", they just rub me the wrong way. So this is NOT a post about New Year's Resolutions. Rather, it's something that I've been thinking about and dreaming about for many months, and just haven't put into play yet.<br />
<br />
I miss blogging. I enjoy being able to share what I'm doing in a longer format than just a Facebook post. I like being able to blog about all the areas of my crazy life. I want the accountability to myself of posting something about school, family, homemaking, and my business every week.<br />
<br />
So, here's the plan. It's not going to be perfect. I'm sure that I will miss days, even if I have the best intentions not to. And there is grace for that. But here is what I would like to do, at least for now, and we'll just have to see how it goes.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Menu Plan Monday (Food/recipes)</li>
<li>Talk about Tuesday (Review/product recommendation)</li>
<li>What are we learning Wednesday (Homeschooling)</li>
<li>Thankful Thursday (My journey to 1000 gifts)</li>
<li>Fashion Friday (Jewelry usually, sometimes other fashion
tidbits)</li>
<li>Pictures on the weekend</li>
</ul>
<div>
These are the major areas of my life right now, so this is what I want to tell the world about. :-)</div>
<div>
And at some point, I'll get the look of the blog updated to include new pictures of the little people...they're a lot bigger now!</div>

I’ve been <strike>a little</strike> crazy busy for the last, oh, three months. And it doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all. But, you know, I’m still planning meals, it’s what keeps that part of my life sane. I’m now cooking for 7 people including one very picky child, one not-so-little <strike>baby </strike>toddler, and four adults. That changes things a bit. Like how many left overs we have. And our grocery bill. And how much time I have to blog. Not to mention Christmas and a birthday party for my now 7 year old! </p> <p>Anyway, this is what we had on the menu last week…</p> <p>Monday – BBQ Chicken Sandwiches</p> <p>Tuesday – Spaghetti & Sauce</p> <p>Wednesday – Ribs from <a href="http://store.cincyfavorites.com/montgomery-inn-c32.aspx" target="_blank">Montgomery Inn</a> (thanks UJ!) and mashed potatoes</p> <p>Thursday – Pizza from <a href="http://www.papamurphys.com/OurMenu/Overview/Pizzas/Signature/Hawaiian" target="_blank">Papa Murphy’s</a>. Spent all day making K’s cake, and really really didn’t want to make anything</p> <p>Friday – <a href="http://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/rainbow-pasta/d7cb2f45-dea6-43e7-893f-6708e2dc10ec" target="_blank">Rainbow Colored Spaghetti</a> for Kahlen’s Birthday </p> <p>Saturday – <a href="http://www.kitchenmonki.com/recipe/Asian_Chicken_Lettuce_Wraps.3" target="_blank">Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps</a></p> <p>Sunday – <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-live/polish-pierogies-recipe/index.html" target="_blank">Polish Pierogis</a></p> <p>I’m still recovering from Kahlen’s party, so we’ll see if I get to the Pierogis tomorrow :-)</p> <p>I’m also planning on doing a big batch of freezer-to-crockpot meals this week, hopefully that will save us from eating spaghetti and sauce every. single. week.</p> <p>So…what have you been cooking? I think I need to find some new recipes, ones that are better suited for our family of 7!</p> <p>Pictures of Kahlen’s birthday party are coming, promise</p> <p>~S</p> Selahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08906361861991928782noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3685292123201130765.post-50476890985433624422013-09-25T22:40:00.001-06:002013-09-25T22:40:06.358-06:00Wordless Wednesday–Moving<p>Remember when I posted about our <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/2013/05/summer-fun-kid-activities-free.html" target="_blank">Summer Fun Kids Activities</a>? Well, we got about 45 of the 60 done, amazing! Especially considering that we have decided to put our house on the market. </p> <p>So, now that we’re moving, I needed a new list:</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Eu0JDBnkNpk/UkO6lMsJoQI/AAAAAAAAVfU/BtEnKhf-TY4/s1600-h/2013-09-25%25252007.57.47%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-09-25 07.57.47" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="2013-09-25 07.57.47" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-WxzWnE0WjRA/UkO6lk6wAsI/AAAAAAAAVfc/EN7vWY3iKzc/2013-09-25%25252007.57.47_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="560" height="378" /></a></p> <p>The master plan is that we are moving in with my in-laws while we sell our current house and find a new house that is perfect for us without being rushed into buying something that we don’t love.</p> <p>So, pardon my absence, and pray that I survive the moving while schooling and everything else!</p> <p>Here’s a few pictures of the current chaos that is my house:</p> <p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3_hHXxNxzJUitwCNPHeLzsoYbAB6_LFO0BR7SroXspWdwbISNa8q69fraW8aX3MWmjcx9bt2whGy8-F5TMDDjISHu1WbFC5L8ZbHh4uwpSxX4UsLltDwTZi1ksi2QXMbw4e1jHb2j7zs/s1600-h/2013-09-25%25252007.56.29%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-09-25 07.56.29" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="2013-09-25 07.56.29" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vGUV8Ne7k0Y/UkO6m2KVReI/AAAAAAAAVfs/P8iSYd0y8wY/2013-09-25%25252007.56.29_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="454" height="257" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ukcT7ciHFGU/UkO6nqrV28I/AAAAAAAAVf0/KoleBOdoRRQ/s1600-h/2013-09-25%25252007.56.34%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-09-25 07.56.34" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="2013-09-25 07.56.34" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3MbgKpcxb-J6vzowwjWMOQKL7Xvm2EM_2FLiTOmi5IrFg2cezNneQ7DVBluei2_ng-JpjVBxXnsSn8Qz4qUrQSttsFW0JmIje2NI1ovunij6dqEapdQbq1-QEPxflcUsNeynywxAT9SQ/?imgmax=800" width="454" height="257" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-PLnKvabEq64/UkO6ouh1gtI/AAAAAAAAVgE/tRZ_KRn0jXc/s1600-h/2013-09-25%25252007.57.00%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-09-25 07.57.00" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="2013-09-25 07.57.00" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-4y4pZSXGMyw/UkO6pZQWs2I/AAAAAAAAVgI/nbL1I-MHxIQ/2013-09-25%25252007.57.00_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="454" height="257" /></a></p> <p>~S</p> <p>Linking up at: </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://mamato3blessings.blogspot.com/search/label/Wordless%20Wednesday" target="_blank"><img title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKKKp54he7INmgn1s8a1QHmWDiVLPIVuxQcIgZU5b5bFM_mvMPTP7f4HeADJC2DbOgaSW0pisKF_dMfZkU44Es-91BAg5R9F7htib34RInyv7D4etqnHM5oqhjvQBz2M2WHkxG_pc4tTo/s1600/WORDLESS.jpg" width="79" height="88" /></a><a href="http://betterinbulk.net/category/wordless-wednesday/" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="Better in Bulk" src="http://lolli.smugmug.com/photos/844149830_ttqnL-X3.jpg" width="88" height="88" /></a><a href="http://www.5minutesformom.com/category/wordless-wednesday/" target="_blank"><img title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_lTGGe4vtm6I/TVynyuWuB3I/AAAAAAAAMgA/GzRz5TIwGe4/image%5B8%5D.png?imgmax=800" width="87" height="87" /></a></p> <p align="center"><a href="http://www.tarasviewoftheworld.com/search/label/wordless%20wednesday" target="_blank"><img src="http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii94/taradawnrobertson/Taras%20button/tarasbutton.jpg" width="87" height="87" /></a><a href="http://totsandme.blogspot.com/search/label/Wordless%20Wednesday/" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="Tots and Me" src="http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt58/kewkewphoto/001-4-1.gif" width="85" height="65" /></a></p> Selahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08906361861991928782noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3685292123201130765.post-31390303444918393542013-09-13T23:24:00.001-06:002013-09-13T23:24:46.619-06:00Wordless Wednesday–FLOOD<p>Truly wordless. I have no words for what is going on around me in my beautiful state of Colorado. Friends stranded. Massive damage to my hometown and the town I now live in. The recovery time for this is going to be long. Ugh.</p> <p>These pictures were taken by my husband, who went on a bike ride to some of the areas affected downtown. And as a side note, he took them with just his phone.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-5Iaa_pseHXc/UjPy9Er4VII/AAAAAAAAVJc/_vyxthGRkJ4/s1600-h/2013-09-13%252520Flood%252520%2525282%252529%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-09-13 Flood (2)" style="border-left-width: 0px; We mostly do school on the dining room table or on the floor in the living room, and you don’t need a picture of my dining room table/desk/school table.</p> <p>Anyway, what I did get this week was pictures of my three. Amazingly, I got a great picture of all three of them on the first try!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KGgVnuyTxK8/UhP6C5lJjkI/AAAAAAAATRg/KhrgMFcdNWI/s1600-h/2013-08-16%252520School%252520Day%252520Pictures%252520%2525281%252529%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-08-16 School Day Pictures (1)" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="2013-08-16 School Day Pictures (1)" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-TT_ezw5MmfM/UhP6D23XQZI/AAAAAAAATRo/lAzjoUiRX08/2013-08-16%252520School%252520Day%252520Pictures%252520%2525281%252529_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="597" height="404" /></a></p> <p>Look, even Shane is holding his sign and smiling, crazy!! I couldn’t find the exact words that I wanted on the chalkboard signs that I found around the internet, so I made one. I wanted one for my tiny tot and one for my pre-k’er as well as 2nd grade. So, you get to benefit from that! I made all grades from Tiny Tot up through 12th grade. I did add the school year, so if you want the publisher file instead without the school year, you can <a href="mailto:theyoungns@gmail.com" target="_blank">email</a> me. </p> <p><iframe height="480" src="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2KfAFT2l4n5d0hHQi12a0ZMeXc/preview" width="640"></iframe></p> <p>As it turns out, we started school yesterday instead of next week, like I’d planned. The kids have been actually asking me when we would start school and wanting to get started…that enthusiasm did not last long, when they realized that we would actually be *doing* school instead of playing , haha. So far (2 days in!), I am very pleased with my choice of <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/2013/08/not-back-to-school2013-2014-curriculum.html" target="_blank">curriculum</a>, here’s hoping that it stays that way!</p> <p>So, what about you? Do you take back to school pictures? When do your kids start school?</p> <p>~S</p> Selahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08906361861991928782noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3685292123201130765.post-24404892074735660792013-08-05T13:22:00.001-06:002013-08-05T13:22:33.518-06:00Not-Back-To-School–2013-2014 Curriculum<p><a href="http://www.ihomeschoolnetwork.com/curriculum-week-2013/" target="_blank"><img style="float: none; margin-left: auto; display: block; margin-right: auto" alt="Curriculum Week in the 2013 Not Back to School Blog Hop" src="http://www.ihomeschoolnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/nbts-blog-hop-calendar-2013.jpg" /></a></p> <p>Yikes! It’s August! We’ve been so busy working on our summer bucket list that it’s left me little time for blogging. Okay, that and a few other major projects :-) One of those is planning out this coming school year for my two olders: trying to figure out what school will look like with a 2nd grader, a pre-k 4 y.o., and my cute mischievous baby-pants. <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-60bBgCdZyjo/Uf_7dR200VI/AAAAAAAATQ8/vZ-qARgke-A/s1600-h/2013-08-02-Shane-using-computer-35.jpg"><img title="2013-08-02 Shane using computer (3)" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="2013-08-02 Shane using computer (3)" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-eTNNugMolDs/Uf_7d6wCB2I/AAAAAAAATRE/0xlgBAxRu3E/2013-08-02-Shane-using-computer-3_th.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" height="225" /></a></p> <p>I think I’ve finally nailed down what curriculum we’ll be using, at least. I don’t have a weekly/daily schedule figured out yet, and I will, but it’s tricky, ya know? </p> <p>ANYway, here’s the current plan, subject to change if there are parts that aren’t working.</p> <p><strong><u><font size="5" face="Adorable">2nd Grade</font></u></strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>History</strong>: <a href="http://peacehillpress.com/history-and-geography/story-of-the-world/volume-2-the-middle-ages.html" target="_blank">Story of the World Year 2</a> including activity guide and student pages. We will not be using the tests this time around. Probably when we come back for cycle 2, then I will be very glad to have them :) Our history curriculum from the last two years left me feeling overwhelmed and like I was doing too much work to get everything ready, especially for how much I paid for the whole thing. SotW looks so much more complete and the text is really enjoyable to read/listen to for all of us.  I’ve started a pinterest board for all the great ideas I’m coming across too, so check it out <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/story-of-the-world-2/" target="_blank">here</a>.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>Math</strong>: <a href="http://store.mathusee.com/">Math U See</a> Beta. We’ll be sticking with Math-U-See for the long run unless it is stops working for us. I’ll be interested to see if it works for Nate too, but it works just fine for Kahlen, yay! Here’s a few <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/math/" target="_blank">pins about math</a> too.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>Spelling/Reading</strong>: <a href="http://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/categories/All-About-Spelling/All-About-Spelling-Level-3/">All About Spelling 3</a> / <a href="http://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading/">All About Reading 3</a> . We’re only about halfway through AAS /AAR 2, which we started mid-year last year and have been steadily plugging along all summer. I made a nice little spreadsheet for myself that correlates the lessons from AAS 2 and AAR 2 because a lot of the teaching is either exactly or very close to the same. This has saved me time because I’m not repeat teaching everything, yay! If you are currently using AAS 2 & AAR 2, and would like my spreadsheet, please email me as I don’t want to impinge on proprietary information by posting it :) Since AAR 3 isn’t scheduled to come out until late this year, we’re not really in a hurry to finish level 2. </li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>Science</strong>: <a href="http://shop.apologia.com/61-astronomy">Apologia Astronomy</a> with Junior Notebooking Journal. We have really loved going through <a href="http://shop.apologia.com/66-anatomy-and-physiology" target="_blank">Human Anatomy and Physiology</a> and are looking forward to another year of study. I think Nate will be joining us more with this one too, because of his interest and his age. No notebook for him, though, that’s just too much! More pinterest love <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/science-astronomy/" target="_blank">here</a>. </li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>Language Arts: </strong><a href="http://peacehillpress.com/first-language-lessons-2.html">First Language Lessons 2</a> / <a href="http://peacehillpress.com/the-complete-writer-writing-with-ease-workbook-2.html">Writing with Ease 2 Workbook</a>. We are super close to finishing First Language Lessons 1, and we’re just going to roll right into the next book. I’ll be interested to see how WWE goes, I think she’s going to really like it…most days. She wants to be an author/illustrator when she grows up, so I’ll be reminding her of that when we have to do writing exercises :-)</li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>The Fun Stuff:</strong> <a href="http://www.drawyourworld.com/draw-write-now/">Draw Write Now</a> / <a href="http://www.artisticpursuits.com/">ARTistic Pursuits</a> / <a href="http://shopping.hwtears.com/product/PP/HWT" target="_blank">Handwriting without Tears</a>. I like Draw Write Now because I can easily just tell her to do a page, and she does. It’s good practice for all kinds of things: drawing, writing, following step-by-step instructions, completing an assignment independently. She’s worked through almost two of the books already. I have her go through them in a chronological manner, but you really could do the pictures however you want. Also, Carissa over at <a href="http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/" target="_blank">1+1+1=1</a> has started making some great <a href="http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/tag/draw-write-now/" target="_blank">printables</a> to go with these books if you’re thinking of using them for a younger student or a reluctant writer. For Art, we’re working through the <a href="http://www.artisticpursuits.com/">ARTistic Pursuits</a> early elementary books. We’re still in book 1, but when we that, then we'll just move on to the second book. As for handwriting, we’re still working through the Handwriting Without Tears books because she requests them, yay! Also another good thing she can do independently. This is also an add-on thing and not something that I’m really stuck on her completing.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>Enrichment</strong>: After thinking about it and praying about it, we’ve decided to enroll Kahlen in the <a href="http://www.tsdleap.org/" target="_blank">LEAP program</a> through the local school district. She’ll be going to school once a week for a full day. She gets to take cooking, puppeting, Spanish, PE, artistic design, and a book club. She’s very excited! I’ll be glad to have a day with just the boys, but I’ll miss her.</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><strong><u><font size="5" face="Adorable">Pre-Kindergarten</font></u></strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Primary Curriculum:</strong> My Father’s World Kindergarten – <a href="http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/20/0/0/1" target="_blank">God’s Creation from A to Z</a>. While I am not into over-schooling your young children AND I realize this is a kindergarten curriculum, I still feel like this will be a good match. We’ll be doing this the “lite” way, not doing every single thing. I chose this curriculum because I’ve heard good things about it as far as having it all laid out for me, which is just what I wanted! It incorporates all the areas that I wanted to have him “study” anyway, such as letter formation, letter sounds, sight words, math, fun projects, and character traits/key truths from the Bible as appropriate to this age. I got a used copy of the first edition teacher’s manual, but it isn’t as polished as the current version, so I found some great resources and put them on, you guessed it, <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/prek-2013-2014/" target="_blank">pinterest</a>!</li> <li><strong>Handwriting</strong>: I am going to start going through Handwriting Without Tears’ <a href="http://shopping.hwtears.com/product/MFSB/handwriting" target="_blank">My First School Book</a> with him, but we’re going to go at his pace, which I have no idea what that will be yet. I want him to start taking an interest in writing, but not hate it, so we’ll just play it by ear.</li> <li><strong>Fun Stuff: </strong>We’ll keep doing <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/busy-bags/" target="_blank">busy bags</a> and possibly add in some <a href="http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/2013/08/all-by-myself-preschool-boxes/" target="_blank">All By Myself</a> boxes or some <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/search/label/Sensory%20Bin" target="_blank">sensory bin stuff</a>.</li> </ul> <strong><u><font size="5" face="Adorable">Tiny Tot School</font></u></strong> <p>Going to try and mostly do school while Mr. Baby-Pants is napping, but I don’t know how long his morning nap will last. So when needed, I’m hoping that he will be entertained by <a href="http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/search/label/Sensory%20Bin" target="_blank">sensory bins</a>, <a href="http://mamajenn.com/blog/2010/06/kool-aid-play-dough-recipe.html" target="_blank">play dough</a>, and maybe a few other ideas from my <a href="http://pinterest.com/selabear/tiny-tot-school/" target="_blank">tiny tot school board.</a> I’m also trying to be better about reading to him. It’s hard with the third one! I used to read to Kahlen every time I put her down to sleep, but with Shane, I sing him a song because it’s faster, oops. </p> <p> </p> <p>Whew! That’s what I have so far. I’m hoping it all works out, at least mostly. What are your plans for this year? Come link up with me and read what others are doing <a href="http://www.ihomeschoolnetwork.com/curriculum-week-2013/" target="_blank">here</a>.</p> <p>See you next week for School Room Week! In fact, Tim finished up cleaning the kitchen and walked over to join us. This counts as our date night this week because our babysitter is watching Shane :)<br>

What happened to June? Seriously. We were so busy that I don’t even know what we all did. VBS, Nate’s fourth birthday, and a ton of hot days in between, and I didn’t really stick to the plan for June. Oh well, sometimes menu planning is just like that, right? Even the best laid plans can go awry.</p> <p>The new recipes that we did try:</p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/cda/recipe_print/0,1946,FOOD_9936_697383_RECIPE-PRINT-FULL-PAGE-FORMATTER,00.html" target="_blank">Ranch Chicken Sandwiches</a>: tasty and delicious. The husband did not like the sauce, but I did. He has a thing against mayo.</li> <li><a href="http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Slow-Cooker-Enchiladas/Print" target="_blank">Slow Cooker Enchiladas</a>: Hubby loved this one, I didn’t really care for it. BUT I’ll probably be making it again since he liked it and it was fairly simple. I need to figure out a way to make it bigger though, because he would have eaten the leftovers for a week if there had been enough to do that!</li> <li><a href="http://www.mamaandbabylove.com/2012/10/01/revised-and-updated-from-your-family-to-your-freezer-ecookbook/" target="_blank">Chili</a> & <a href="http://www.plainchicken.com/2011/02/cheddar-cornbread-waffles.html" target="_blank">Cornbread Waffles</a>: Another hit. The kids loved the cornbread waffles, and we enjoyed the whole meal. They were more filling than they looked, though, and next time I’ll remember that we each only need 1/2 a waffle for dinner.</li> <li><a href="http://savorysweetlife.com/2010/03/chicken-marsala/" target="_blank">Chicken Marsala</a>: easy and yummy. Although, the leftovers did not get eaten up, so it will be awhile before I make it again. We both say that we like mushrooms, but I think we’re just trying to convince ourselves that that’s true.</li> <li><a href="http://theagnosticswife.wordpress.com/2012/02/09/i-found-it-on-pintrest-crockpot-chicken-dumplings/" target="_blank">Crockpot Chicken & Dumplings</a>: Made this, but totally <a href="http://www.kitchenmonki.com/recipe/Crockpot_Chicken_And_Dumplings" target="_blank">rewrote the recipe</a> first. I didn’t really realize how much of a food snot I am until I started looking at this recipe and  thought “I can make this way better if I make everything from scratch instead of cans”. And I was right, I might add, it was much tastier and not that much more work (IMO. What makes it different you ask? Let me tell you!</div> <div align="left"> </div> <img style="float: none; margin-left: auto; display: block; margin-right: auto" alt="Picture" src="http://www.classicalhistorian.com/uploads/4/3/7/4/4374494/469747_orig.jpg" width="500" height="361" /> <p> <br /><em>This one deck of 50 cards with the answer key teaches the following skills through four fun games: Basic historical facts, Chronology, Geography, Association, and Social Skills required to follow the rules and play games with others.</em></p> <p><em>Four Games in One: <br />A. Go Fish <br />B. Collect the Cards <br />C. Chronology <br />D. Continents</em></p> <p>While it would have been nice to have had this game throughout the year for our study of Ancient History, it is great to have it now too. When we played, it was a great review of the things that we learned all year long. </p> <p>The cards are beautifully done. Each card features a picture of the object as well as the title, and they’re color-coded to make matching them that much easier.</p> <p>I had Kahlen (who is 6) play by herself and Nate (who is 4) and I were a team. He helped me with the numbers while I held them, so it was a great family game. Kahlen won the first time we played, and immediately wanted to know if we could play again. <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-SwlQlOkxvjc/Uc5MqaYY0NI/AAAAAAAATK4/KLtjpsaw_ng/s1600-h/2013-06-28%252520Go%252520Fish%252520%2525284%252529%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="2013-06-28 Go Fish (4)" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="2013-06-28 Go Fish (4)" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9X14gudM8kU/Uc5MrCAKpEI/AAAAAAAATLA/XrP2GD_-a5o/2013-06-28%252520Go%252520Fish%252520%2525284%252529_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="257" height="454" /></a>We only were able to play the Go Fish way because of the age and skill levels of my kids, but the other ways to play look really fun too, and I’ll be glad in four years when we come back to Ancient History that we’ll have this resource. </p> <p>Here’s a synopsis of the four ways to play:</p> <h4><em>Go Fish</em></h4> <p><em>Players try to collect all four-of-a-kind cards from the following categories. The player who captures most sets wins.</em></p> <h4><em>Collect the Cards</em></h4> <p><em>Players use historical facts (hints) to try and guess the image on the card. If a player guesses correctly, he wins the card.</em></p> <p><em><img alt="Picture" src="http://www.classicalhistorian.com/uploads/4/3/7/4/4374494/6982859.jpg?204" /></em></p> <h4><em>Chronology</em></h4> <p><em>Following the Answer Key instructions, shuffle the cards necessary for the chronology game. When one player signals, the other player assembles all cards in chronological order, as fast as he can. The fastest time wins!</em></p> <h4><em>Geography</em></h4> <p><em>Place the Continents cards at the top of the playing field. Shuffle the other cards. When one player signals, the other player assembles all cards under the correct continent, as fast as he can. The fastest time wins! Answer key provided.</em></p> <p>This game was a big hit, and I’m considering buying the <a href="http://www.classicalhistorian.com/medieval-history-go-fish.html" target="_blank">Medieval History Go Fish</a> game for next year, since we’ll be studying that portion of history next!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-193kwtla7XA/Uc5MrX_IUrI/AAAAAAAATLI/2NfzHlwdyVw/s1600-h/clip_image001%25255B5%25255D.gif"><img title="clip_image001" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="clip_image001" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Ws8wpzsJCKs/Uc5MsCMVo1I/AAAAAAAATLQ/VlcC2Mhf0tM/clip_image001_thumb%25255B2%25255D.gif?imgmax=800" width="450" height="83" /></a></p> <p>You can go <a href="http://mosaicreviews.com/the-classical-historian/" target="_blank">here</a> to read other reviews, both of this game and of other products.
