So I have done the big long haul make up artist trip where I had to pack my train case and checked it in in the fragile.

Now at the end of the month I am going on a domestic flight but just required to bring my self and my necessities.
However I just want a carry on solution, only because a friend of mine had her luggage lost for the entirety of a week's conference and only got it back on the last day, so I am now thinking about my needs and ease of travelling interstate.

I have my personal use case but there are so many restrictions to travel with liquids so I am going to decant my cleanser and toner into little emptys that are $5 from Target. $14.95 in Priceline so it pays to shop!

They come with little stickers to identify your products, mind you I am still going to buy some travel size products to get me through!!

I thought I would post when I have seen what's on special at the moment, it comes when my sister in law asked me to look out for her daughter for Napoleon Perdis going on special.

Chanel have their new Spring colours about to launch and are taking bookings to experience them!

Also David Jones were selling these for about $80 I had to have one!

Ok so this week I have found that my skin is flawless no bumps or lumps but I do still have pigmentation and scaring from pimples.

When I use Arbonne Cellular renewal it really does help this problem I have and removes all the old skin and build up of makeup.

Once I put on foundation my skin looks perfect because the tone is even all over. I am sure I will build on this over the years but here is an essential guide for staples in your every day skin regime albeit skin care or make up - all skin types listen up! Cleanse skin with your Favourite skin care regime.

I really can't go past products that contain AHA a natural ingredient that breaks down dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and renews the skin. For young people detox of the skin happens within days of starting a new skin care regime, like a break out of pimples basically it is a good sign to break out when you start a regime because it's the products working and getting rid of your old product.

For older skin this process can take 2-3 weeks before these signs begin because the skins cycle is slower and production of collagen is slowed after the age of 30.

That moment when you're in conversation with someone and their skin glows... You wonder, what do they use on their skin? That radiance, glow to people's face. What is that? Lots of water? Exercise or sleep? You've tried them all and they don't work right!?

There are products out there to help you! They are called secrets and no one wants you to know it! Preparing the skin is key I always say this but good skin care goes a long way.
Then there are quick fixes with make up products to give you radiance, quickest and easieset guide! Highlighters, face illuminators and bases under foundation are you instants.

My absolute Favourite has to be the sheer illuminator fluid by Chanel, it's only $67 and lasts forever, you only need to use a cotton bud tip worth and this also extends the life Of your product because unless you dip the cotton bud back into the product, you will prevent bacteria and dead skin cells going back into the product and contaminating it.

You can mix it with your liquid foundation or just apply it, or similar products to it or apply it just to your cheeks, it's sheer and translucent do you can still apply blushes and bronzer on top.

You will glow!
Especially if you're dehydrated or tired! Skin care step, serums. Serum breaks down the skin, usually a peptide ingredient, so it helps the nutrients of your moisturizers and cleaners be absorbed correctly and efficiently.

Hydrating serums are fantastic right before a primer or base before makeup as it keeps the skin hydrated the entire day, the primer locks moisturer in and leaves something for your makeup to be applied to.

I go white in photos!

Ok I have to say this!

You will not get by on just one foundation.

Sorry!

Invest in your make up! Your skin is different colors in summer and winter.

You may get a spray tan and guess what, you'll need to get a foundation that matches that tan. SPF, Mica, Silica are ingredients in your foundations that help keep harmful UV at bay, and absorb oil on skin, however they don't like the flash of a camera.

Your choice of moisturizer that you use before you apply your makeup also will factor in to your white face in photos. If it contains SPF there's your problem!

So for every day use be safe and use your SPF products. For night time and special events, or you know you'll be updating your Facebook photos!

Use very low - no SPF moisturizer and foundation. Shiny and oily Keep a pack of blotting paper, tissues or Rizzler papers.

With the tissues all you need to do is separate the plys apart. Use one ply to apply to the face it will absorb the oil. Other wise you can use the other alternatives or your powder to touch up.

You can also buy mattiffying powders and Matt orientated moisturizers and skin care, usually oil free Laura Mercier offer a great oil free skin care set.

You can also use matte foundations, oil free and to still get the dewy look use an illuminator.

Stumpy lashes You need mascara base Can't go past Chanel's was released in May 2011 and works!

Separates lashes and extends them before you even apply the mascara!!

I promise you will be impressed!

How to: get a job in makeup and beauty industry

In reflection of http://katesinmelbourne.blogspot.com/2011/12/working-mum-v-stay-at-home-mum-how.html post I wanted to share my experiences and advice in working in makeup and beauty. Freelancing is great when the kids are still at home full time.

It's something you can set up from home or mobile around you family's lifestyle. Doing all types of work and getting volunteers to practice on helps expand your experience in skin types, skin quality and unusual things that can happen on a face like facial hair, wrinkles, excess skin, dehydration, irritable eyes, dry lips Sometimes this, before spending a few hundred/thousand on a course will really help your learning. Networking with people in the industry is a great way to get new gigs but credibility can be questioned. As Dr Phil once advised on his show to a lady that really wanted a particular job in an industry she'd chosen, she was qualified but she had no experience and Dr Phil questioned her, well if you wanted to be taken seriously, why don't you work for free, get an internship, do anything you can by giving up your time to get the experience, then people will notice and give you credit because you're there because you want to be, voluntarily!

This stuck in my head and I have been working my ass off, voluntarily and paid. Start your prices low to get a solid customer base. Then you can increase your charge as the years go on and the more experience you have. A professional portfolio is an investment in your business and future, and spend the money on a quality and credible photographer. This is what you'll need for future jobs and also entrance in to some makeup schools and makeup companies like MAC.

Cosmetics counter roles Allow a few days for the interview process With MAC it's a whole day group trial and interview process. With other companies that run out of David Jones and Myer you will meet with the brand, then either of the department stores HR, then a second interview with the floor supervisor/sales manager and then a full day orientation process to learn the registers, OH&S etc.

This process can be up to two weeks. So a bit tricky when you are already employed but if you are stay at home/self employed/casual it's "do able" once it's done then it makes changing brands and career advancement a bit easier.

I am going through all of this because the future career opportunities with these companies is huge and I have some goals I have set for by the time I'm 30. If you want an option to work from home there are plenty of makeup and skin are companies that allow you to sell makeup and skin care from home, use as home salon products, and these companies also include training so can be a great starter to learn about skin and makeup types and talking to product developers.

Out and about this week some new found loves are these:

Ellis Faas Lights range of eyeshadow pens
It wasn't in stock at Mecca Cosmetica but lucky because I ordered online for $6 less including the postage from Ellis Faas Webstore facility! This shimmer is gorgeous on it's own, used as a highlighter or over the top of other vibrant colours.

Secondly because I am a huge shimmer fan this by Chanel

A cream based shadow and perfect for use as an eyeliner. The smell is a bit off putting but the result is just gorgeous!

So I was watching Gregory Gorgeous's giveaway which was a duplicate of what he thinks his MAC starter kit would include.
Which got me thinking about my 'must haves'.

Right on to the other MUST have is a primer and a really good one!!
I absolutely condone primer usage!
Bye-bye to big visible pores and fine lines - lets your make up sit evenly and stay longer.
To NOT prime is a CRIME!
Yes of course I love the Arbonne one, it has won awards but it's a really good eye shadow primer too. I really love using a primer on the eye before shadows because it really make the colour not only POP but STAY PUT!

I agree with all Greg-a-liscious on BRONZERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Everyone but everyone needs it. It does EVERYYYTHINGGGG!
- Contours the face (when you learn where to put it)
- It gives you a bit of colour instead of just bland foundation base
- You can use it as an eyeshadow
- You can mix it with a plain gloss or balm for your lips
- You can use it as a blusher

MASCARA - a must, no matter what brand, waterproof or not, don't start your day without it! Really work from the root up and out because it gives the illusion you have eyeliner on.

Lip Balm/Gloss/Stick - Whatev's but absolute MUST HAVE to complete a look

I agree also with the eyeshadows there is no starter or must have eyeshadow, you have bronzer if need be, if you use foundation sometimes that's enough for a base for the eye but to me EYESHADOW is an ACCESSORY to your outfit or mood.

I really loved his giveaway idea, so whilst I mull that over keep beautiful and I'll post tomorrow! ;)

One more note:
I have been really excited about the Arbonne Sheer Pressed powders actually.
They are much lighter than the translucent and also come in three shades to go with your skin tone. It is SHEER your really need to build it to be a full coverage, but it's not designed for that, it's designed for touch ups and to blot make up through out the day or for ppl that don't wear much make up.

I find that the mica and silica for my skin type keeps oil and shine away ALL DAY and it's been raining so with mositure and being out in the rain my make up has not been disturbed at all.
Best of all because it's in a compact you can carry it with you all day, unlike the translucent which you'd need a travel brush and it can get messy in the car at the lights when you... ok let's leave it there! Oops!

First of my Xmas Gift Idea Series!

Thanks to the every amazing Mattel my daughter (3) has a big smile!

We were lucky to trial run Santa (the postman) coming and leaving a gorgeous Barbie Fashionista. It was still in the box when my daughter was trying it out by pressing the button and she sings and lights up!!

O M G! Amaze!!

Once she was out of the box and I read the instructions, I pulled the tab from her little rear end and the song goes a lot longer.

Well are we blown away? The Microphone is really cool because it can clip to Barbies hand, belt or microphone stand (all included).

My daughter is 3 and already looked at the packet and saw we could get the iPhone app aswell.

Honestly this has been a REAL hit in our house hold, which is also home to 2 other Barbies, but this by far blew me away with the corset that flashes a little light show.

When we took it into the kindy school run to pick up my son one of his friends saw it and already had one (she's 4) and my daughter was talking about it on the way home to her brother that "his friend had it too" in a very matter of fact voice!

This would have been on the list of things to get my little one or another of my daughters girlfriends of the similar age.

Barbies clothes are glittery and show case her inner 'fashionista'!

Great buy I would recommend for other Xmas Shoppers to have this on their hot lists for 3-5year olds this Christmas!

Thanks to Mattel for letting us have a play - and there are two other Barbies in the range which she (my daughter) wants as friends so we'll see if Santa thinks she's been good enough! ;)

How to get: Stronger Hair, Skin & Nail

My absolute secret to getting longer hair and nails that are super strong:

I take it at night and for me within days my nails are longer and hardly break.

I just get these from the health food store cheap as chips!

I have run out of Cod Liver Oil but usually I would take that as well.

So in fitting with a few themes around priming this week check out Make Up and Macaroons Eyeshadow Primer post

I thought I would review the primer I use every day, even under tinted moisturiser.

I have used all sorts of primers, ones that are literally like a moisturiser and don't do much and also M.A.C's prep and prime, also very good.

The reason I use a primer is:
It locks in all the good nutrients from you skin care regime and allows your make up to be applied to something that is smooth and fills in pores and fine lines.

Here is a couple pics of a before and after, against my other hand it looks a lot more dewy and clearer.

So this has been voted #1 primer on Total Beauty.com

Also what I like is it doesn't contain mineral oil so my skin breathes as it would without anything on it.

I get really upset when I run out of this so always have a back up for when that day comes!!

Why choose vegan make-up?

This post will touch on why to think about changing your beauty products to vegan friendly! Even if you are not a vegan in the sense of eating raw and no meat you can certainly chew on this: Animal rendering is a huge industry and goes hand in hand with the beauty industry (unfortunately)

Big companies want their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to go even further so with the formulas they make they use fillers and spreaders to make products go further without using as much of what they made.

Enter rendering product. Animal rendering is the by product from deceased and euthanised animals from the vets and farms and slaughterhouses and road kill. It all goes to one place (a rendering plant) and the oils from the deceased animals that have been basically cooked in a vat are scooped up and shipped out to you guessed it!

Wondered why your make-up can be a bit niffy? Enter perfumes and artificial colourings to cover it all up!
Also cruelty free brands are great, but if you're naive you'll not know that most companies have a mother company that may test on animals even though your brand didn't, their creators perhaps did.

Make fake work!

Common problems people face when using fake tan or a spray tan is it
going orange
smearing/smudging
getting patchy

Here is what to do
prepare your skin before application!

I know you're in a hurry you just found out your off out on the weekend and look as a white as a sheet but please bear these tips in mind!

These rules apply to DIY and spray tans

Have your waxing and shaving up to date! You must have a least 24 hours break between your fake tan application and your last wax or shave.
WHY?
Because your pores will still be quiet open and porous, the tan solution will catch in those 'holes' and clog & look darker or worse still look like black hairs growing. Also that skin on those areas pruned will be newer fresher skin to the tan will not be even, especially if you still have wax residue on your skin.

The day of your tan application

shower - but do not use soaps, moisurisers, deodrants or make up, not even sun screen or worse perfume, all these products act as a barrier so the tan will stick to the product and not your skin. This makes the tan uneven and patchy.

if you're showering after work or the gym before your tan you need to make sure it's not a hot shower, this too will open your pores leaving the tan able to snuggly live in your pores.

DIY Application
Less is more, you can build a DIY tan up over time this ensures it being even, if you do a have a friend you can get to do your back do so! Ask for help!
If you do have open wounds or scars apply with a Q tip a little tiny amount of a sorbelene cream to that area so the tan can collect on that and wash off, not get clogged on a scab.

If you do smudge or it dries awfully around ankles, knees, elbows under arms, use a slice of lemon and gentle dab to let it naturally take the staining away. If it has happened whilst the tan is wet and not set you can use a soft make up brush or some moisturiser to blend the marks out.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR TAN

For a longer life tan, it's all about moisturising! All the time! Keep it hydrated and when you shower use a gentle exfoliator so that the tan fades naturally and evenly making sure you get everywhere in the shower.
Hot showers & baths dry the skin out so keep the water at a gentle temperature.

Avoid products that contain AHA's Alpha Hydroxy Acid this ingredient eats away at dead skin cells so can cause pigmentation naturally so when a fake tan is on it will eat away at the dead cells so make sure you avoid these products for that time period.

Touching base on the going orange thing....
fake tans do take differently on different skin types, it's always worth getting a trial tan done or trialing the product in a hidden area on your body to see how well it's going to look before getting it applied everywhere!

Don't stress about getting your face tanned because it can always be hidden with make up and your face gets washed more than the rest of your body so will fade quicker - and whilst I'm on this topic, make sure you have a foundation that matches your spray tan colour! You can't be the same colour all year round - skin colour changes!!

So do your research and prepare your self for your next fake tan!!

Two things, I am loving Instagram and glitter.

This is a look I created as I love the look of all those glitter acrylic nails, but needless to say I don't have acrylics! I have natural long nails, that are healthy and strong even after history with buffing back for those tips!
