In the past, Bohlenders have received a salary from The Zoe Foundation, augmented by some outside missions support to make ends meet. In our board meeting in December, they proposed that from here on out, they forgo any salary from The Zoe Foundation and rely fully on donations for their family income.

The Zoe Foundation will continue with Randy as the Executive Director, but exist entirely by volunteers, enabling it to give more resources to raise up adoption as a positive alternative to abortion.

The Bohlenders will be completely self-supported missionaries leading the Zoe Foundation, promoting the message of adoption in various arenas as well as communicating their unique message to the body of Christ.

There are many of you who support Randy and Kelsey because of their unique calling. If you would like to support them directly, you can go to the DONATE PAGE on Randy’s blog to make a donation or learn how to send a check.

There are others of you who support the work of the Zoe Foundation. You believe in the adoption movement and in Zoe’s role in fueling what the Lord is doing in the lives of hundreds of children and families. If this is where the Lord is leading you to continue your support, CLICK HERE.

We are excited about this new season and look forward to partnering with you to extend the Kingdom of God through the miracle of adoption.

I recently just returned from a pre-release screening tour up the West Coast for the anti-human trafficking documentary Nefarious, Merchant of Souls. To give a brief explanation, Nefarious is a full-length feature film that gives a comprehensive and raw introduction to the global sex trade. It was filmed on four different continents and nineteen countries by Exodus Cry, an international nonprofit organization here in Kansas City that is founded on intercession and philanthropic work. Two months ago, our team of five young missionaries packed up our lives into suitcases and hit the road for our first of over thirty screenings throughout Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. Our hearts were fluttering with expectation for what the Lord would do in the journey ahead of us and our eyes were hungry to see His justice. Earlier this year, I had spent a month in Africa working with abused women, the poor, and the sick—but this terrain would be completely different. This was my home and my people: America.

The issue of slavery is still rampant in our own backyards and I couldn’t even believe it myself when first hearing about it. It should be of no surprise that children and orphans are one of the most directly involved victims; some of the root issues include abuse, perversion, and abandonment in the homes. This is a fact that Nefarious strongly addresses and the reality of it was gaining on us quickly as we drove nearer to our first screening. If one in three women have been sexually/physically abused as a child, and one in four men, then our future audiences of thousands were, without a doubt, going to have ones who could directly relate to the documentary.

Before I go on, I want to emphasize that when carrying this burden for justice and human trafficking, it is inevitable that the beauty of the Spirit of adoption shines with full force. It was a pretty sweet and encouraging moment for me to hear this awesome clip while on tour, featuring two leaders in the prayer and justice movement. If you haven’t already heard, our own Randy Bohlender has been holding a radio show, named The Spirit of Adoption Show, on AM 730 WTNT The Truth. The audio clip is one of the episodes where Randy interviews Benjamin Nolot, the filmmaker of Nefarious and founder of Exodus Cry. Their discussion pulls together the fact that to be pro-life is to be pro-child and pro-human life on every level, that it doesn’t exclude the dark realms of human trafficking.

One uncomfortable thought I want to bring to the table is: many of the orphaned and abused children of ten to thirty years ago have become the exploited victims and perpetrators of today. But what if they had been shown the true Spirit of adoption before that dreadful cross-over? What if the targeted orphans and abused where taken first by the protective love of Christian homes? Human trafficking would have to stop dead in its tracks because the main commodity for it’s $32 billion industry would no longer be for sale. Researches and advocates related to this issue have come to the general consensus that human trafficking is simply the exploitation of vulnerability. Traffickers don’t always have to scour dark alleys to find and kidnap an unsuspecting person into their van. Desperate people can be easily pawned into ‘the game’ by sleazy manipulators who show a counterfeit sense of adoption and safety.

Our screening tour was named the Incurable Fanatics Tour modeled after Wiliam Wilberforce’s famous proclamation, “If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my people is to be a fanatic, then I am one of the most incurable fanatics to be at large.” He was a man of radical prayer, financial giving, and awareness who successfully led the abolition movement of slavery in his day. I believe that even now God is scanning the innumerable injustices of the earth and is searching for ones who will be modern-day Wilberforces, it’s the Psalm 14:2 reality. A more comical illustration that comes to mind is of the child game-books Where’s Waldo? In the books there are pages filled with an overwhelming amount of silly characters amassed together and in all the hubbub you must find that one little guy, with the striped get-up and a smirk on his face, who’s been looking straight at you the whole time. How many of us will the Lord find looking at Him in the middle of it all? To how many of us, whether it’s an individual, a family, or a community will He say, “Aha! I’ve won!” Not in a children’s game of puzzles, but over the horrific schemes of the enemy against the children.

A NEW video has been posted on our home-page folks and it’s the second of Randy Bohlender’s pro-adoption video series. The great thing about these videos is that they’re meant to be passed around and can even be used as your own. If you’re a pastor, watch these short clips to fuel your next Sunday message. If you’re a mother, they can be your morning devotionals on-the-go as you’re reigning in the tots. If you’re a pro-life teen, they can spark up your next discussion group or recast vision in your heart.

The point is, we want to get the word about about the Spirit of Adoption! So feel free to tweet, facebook, +1, network, and do work with these videos as you see fit. And stay tuned because Randy promises more…

Above is the newest vid: It’s Our Job. Watch, listen, and be reminded of who exactly is Biblically responsible for orphan care.
And if you haven’t seen the first part to the series, watch Common Objections to Adoption below and hear Randy address the American Dream.

**UPDATE: ADOPTION CAMP OCT. 2011 IS FULL. If you’d like to be put on the waiting list, please submit your name to events@thezoefoundation.com. You can also send a request to be notified of the next adoption camp.
—

One of the highlights of the past few years for The Zoe Foundation has been helping with the launching of Hannah’s Dream Adoptions, a fully licensed adoption agency that is a part of the International House of Prayer.

Like any new venture, we learned a lot – fast – and want to share it with others. There is no entity in world better equipped to launch an adoption agency than the local church. If you’d like to see people in your church or house of prayer be able to adopt at a substantially lower expense than the norm, we have an opportunity for you.

Adoption Camp – October 7/8 – Kansas City, Missouri

The Zoe Foundation, along with the staff from Hannah’s Dream, will do an intense, day and a half brain dump that will get you started on the road to starting an adoption agency. We’ll cover the adoption process, legal requirements, birth mother ministry, and a host of other things.

Three more things you should know….

1) It’s free. No joke. The training, materials, etc are on us. We are passionate about the church entering into the adoption process and this is the best way we can come up with for starting multiple, self sustaining fires.

2) It’s by invitation only. We are going to cap the size Adoption Camp at 5 teams (more on that later). The reason being that we want extensive time for question and answer regarding your specific situation. The larger Adoption Camp gets, the harder it is to give quality one on one input.

3) It will fire you up. We did a beta version last fall and three teams left with the basic building blocks of launching an agency. They’re well on their way to realizing God’s dream of the church owning adoption.

If you’d like to be considered for adoption camp, send us an email at events@thezoefoundation.com with the following info:

Name of church or house of prayer.

Church staff member’s name. (They don’t need to attend, but they do need to be on board…).

Number of team members. (We ask that you come as a team of between 2 and 5 – we’re going to firehose you with info and you will want help remembering it).

Fire off an email now – if you’re a candidate, we will get back with you in a few days with your invitation. See you at camp!

With donuts on the table and the smell of fresh coffee filling the Zocalo (our conference room), The Zoe Foundation opened up its first session of its Spirit of Adoption seminars last Monday morning.

The ringleaders of this event were Randy Bohlender and Tracie Loux—two amazing pioneers who shared their hearts on the adoption movement as well as the emotional experiences as they watched their own families grow in both size and faith. Tracie and Randy discussed in detail the many different facets of the adoption journey, from the piles of paperwork to the unforgettable moment of finalization.

As one so young in the game, I wanted to soak up every bit of it. It was incredible to hear such encouraging testimonies of the faithfulness of the Lord, while still receiving the reality of His call to obedience and action. As I looked around, I saw the attentive faces of visitors that were understanding the weight of these truths as well.

I couldn’t help but feel my heart swell with pride to be a small part of such a wide spread movement in favor of life and justice for the children.

Tracie Loux is an adoptive mother of seven who has not only traveled to the frost-bitten orphanages of Eastern Europe to claim two of her children, but also patiently cares for her seventh in the confines of the PICU. In conjunction with being a full-time mom, Tracie works as an Adoptive Family Coordinator for Hannah’s Dream Adoptions. To learn more about her and her family, follow her blog here.
Randy Bohlender is also an adoptive parent of seven and is the head of The Zoe Foundation. Randy has spent years laboring with his wife Kelsey in the prolife movement while juggling a set of twins, soccer games, hours in the prayer room, speaking at conferences and much, much more. To learn more about him and his family, follow his blog here.

After attending a Zoe Banquet, they offered to volunteer in any way we could use them. Little did they know, they would get the exciting job titles of Media Director (Stephen) and Database Administrator (Eugenia). This couple has greatly impacted the way we organize and deliver our message. Stephen gets the opportunity of receiving projects from nearly everybody on our staff and somehow finding time to do all of them. Just a few of his undertakings include designing our print material, making our videos, and maintaining our website. Stephen is a wise leader whose humility reflects the heart of Jesus. Eugenia has completely reorganized and tailor made our database to meet our needs in the most effective way. This has made communication with our partners and business professionals easier and timelier than when we first began. Eugenia is known for her attention to detail and her quick response, which ultimately shows her deep love and care for the Body of Christ.

Their Story

Stephen, while studying the language in Russia for a year, met his beautiful bride on a youth-group canoeing trip. Eugenia’s parents are missionaries and she grew up living half of her life in Russia, half in Florida. It is no wonder that this couple has felt called to the mission field. After getting married and graduating college, the Lord led them to attend an internship at the International House of Prayer to prepare them for the works He has called them to.

When asked how he got into making videos, Stephen responded, “When I was younger a friend from church let me borrow his video camera. I proceeded to record videos of my toy soldiers being blown up by fire-crackers. That is when I fell in love with filming. I have a strong heart connect with The Zoe Foundation message and I am just using my skill set in the way I know best.” Stephen summed up what the Lord has so kindly blessed The Zoe Foundation with: a staff that have amazing, unique gifts and work together to accomplish James 1:27.

“I have always been interested in adoption, thinking how ‘fun’ it would be when I was young, later realizing it was a bit more serious but still something I wanted to do someday. Stephen and I had just started talking about it after getting married, and then we heard Randy speak a couple times during the internship. We really liked what he said, realized we were both really excited about it, and suddenly saw adoption in a whole new light. I was about 5 months pregnant at the time with our first baby, so we didn’t feel it was the right time to start on our own adoption process, but decided we would get involved and help any way we could in the meantime.”

Fun Facts

Stephen and Eugenia are proud parents of their new son, Samuel Jedidiah, born February 25, 2011

They both also work for the Russian Department at IHOP-KC, having similar responsibilities to their work at The Zoe Foundation

Mr. and Mrs. Brock enjoy traveling, hiking, watching movies, dreaming of the future, and of course playing with Samuel!

Right now, Eugenia is reading the gospel of John. She says, “God is teaching me how to find Him where He is, rather than trying to find Him where I am.”

The Lord is taking Stephen through a season of academic study of the word, coupled with the truth of his identity in the Father.

Eugenia’s favorite book is A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers. Stephen’s is The Old Man in the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway.

Stephen’s favorite Zoe moment: Observing Luis Cataldo’s loathing of the internet, to the point of hiring a bunch of “hipsters” to do all the technical stuff.

Eugenia enjoys working for Randy because of his random, witty one-liners.

If you joined us for our amazing office warming, you may have noticed an interesting tree squeezed into a corner in front of the copy machine. On it we strung our office-supply wishes and opened the floor for any donations to help us with a few practical necessities. Because with a new office, comes new areas to upkeep!
Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated towards our wishing tree! You should have seen how excited our exec-assistant and events coordinator was, Joanna Eitel, as she pulled out a Target gift-card that could immediately be put to use. And now, thanks to God’s wonderful gift of Amazon.com, we have created an on-line list of various items from all over the web in hope of filling in some missing pieces. We humbly ask anyone who is able to, to take a look at our wish list needs and partner with us to acquire these items. Items range from basic necessities such as 409 and power outlets, to ministry oriented utilities such as storage shelves for birth-mom supplies . The Zoe Foundation has been incredibly blessed by this new office and the overwhelming support—now if we could just stop scrambling over our lone stapler…
