New AirBag Sessions for 2011!!!

The moment you’ve all been waiting for. Check out our Events calendar for all the latest AirBag sessions for 2011. There’s still plenty of free weekends though so check back regularly for updates. What are you going to learn this winter?

2011 kicks off at Mont Gleason on Saturday 8th January thanks to Vertical Boardshop and swiftly followed by a first for the Ottawa region; a Monday night jam at Mont Cascades on the 10th January thanks to Orkestra.

With epic returns to places like Orford, Bromont and Snowmission2011 as well as adding a host of new ski hills, like Mont Gleason, Mont Cascades and yes, Mont Blanc (the first ski hill north of Montreal to welcome the AirBag), we’re staying focused on our goal to bring soft landings to every skier and boarder in Quebec.

With reports of snow cannons firing and Montreal having had its first snowfall, it won’t be long before the AirBag is back for a bit of slip-sliding airtime fun. What are you going to learn this winter?

The lucky snow-worshippers of Sept Iles will get their first taste of the AirBag at Ski Gallix on the 27th November. Sept Iles?! Guys, couldn’t you have organised something a bit closer to Montreal?!! Not to worry. Stay tuned to our Facebook page as well as our online calendar. We’ll be adding upcoming snow sessions in the near future.

Thank you for all your support during our first winter and summer. Expect only more progression this winter!

BMX Pepsi ProAM this Saturday 23rd October!!

Element51 and Ten Pack Distribution are proud to present the BMX Pepsi ProAM again this year, the biggest BMX competition in Quebec at the one and only Taz on October 23rd! More than $ 5,000 in prizes plus this year we’re adding an Airbag Jam, open to all!

AirBag Freedrop Session at Adrenalia – West Island Mayhem!

The AirBag is out again this Saturday 31st July, as part of Adrenalia, a summer event organised by Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and pretty much as extreme as it gets. AirBag Freedrop, Eurobungee, Slackline, climbing wall, hip-hop demo and more…

Lots of Sun and AirBag Fun with Element 51 in St Eustache!

Thanks to Element 51 and the town of St Eustache, the first AirBag bike session of the summer got off to a great start.

The session kicked off downtown St Eustache at 10, the tunes were pumping, the style flowing and the riders kept going all day long. I can’t honestly say I remember there being any point during that day that there wasn’t a constant flow of riders hitting the airbag!

The healthy tailwind meant that riders were getting that extra push on the take-off. Marc-Andre Delafontaine certainly earned his wings at times flying double the height of most.

A special mention for Joel Bondu’s dad who kindly brought ramps and a spine to set up alongside the AirBag.

Saturday 3rd July – BMX Session in St Eustache by Element 51!!!

$20 will get you flipping out all day long from 10am till 5.

SUMMER! Festival Plein Air, Mont-Sainte-Anne and Next AirBag Sessions!

Freedrop and BMX sessions for the summer are now in full swing. The last few months have seen a flurry of activity both on stage and behind scenes. Keep an eye on our Calendar for all upcoming sessions!

The 9^th Edition of the Festival Plein Air, organized by Groupe Espaces kicked off on the 14-16^th May at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal. A special thank you to Valerie Morel for helping to bring in TheAirBag for three days of adrenaline filled Freedrop and BMX demos.

Etymology: North American English with a twang of Scottish., from Anglo-Spanish, Latin freedroppus

Date: 21^st century

1 : an act of raising a person to a great height and the subsequent release of gravitational potential energy as the person freely drops onto a giant airbag below, generally followed shortly after with exclamations such as “Yeah!!!”, “Awesome!”, “I wanna try that again!”.

Even the rain couldn’t keep the Freedroppers away. A different crowd also gathered during the weekend thanks to the brave efforts of our Element 51 BMX demo team. Olivier Fortin, Dillon Lloyd, Francis Dussault, Charles Deschampes to name but a few. Together they put on a great show, launching themselves from Big Blue (our BMX ramp) pushing their limits in the air and landing safely on TheAirBag. Wait? What’s that? Olivier is doing flairs at Le Taz after two sessions on TheAirBag? Go figure. There must be some link between real progression and TheAirBag…

For the first time, the Baie de Beauport in Quebec City also welcomed the Festival Plein Air on the 28^th-30^th May. The Baie de Beauport is a hub for kitesurfers and windsurfing not to mention the relaxed atmosphere on the beach. Managed by Gestev, the facilities are excellent for weekend warriors or an early morning session before work. With a cool breeze blowing ensuring the skies remained cloud free, the festival got off to a great start in Quebec.

Mont-Sainte-Anne, host to the UCI WorldCup Downhill 2010 this summer, welcomed TheAirBag on Saturday 12^th June. Although it started out as a Freedrop session, the lure of Big Blue for riders flying past was too much to ignore. The afternoon transformed itself into a full-on bike session, with the now almost expected “I learned my first backflip today” from Pat. Yes, that’s what we’re about. First backflip attempts, perfecting existing tricks and just having a good time. All in the name of fun and progression and nothing less. You’ll always find Ben McHugh, TheAirBag Canada’s head honcho riding around, encouraging riders and trying to improve his own repertoire of tricks. Snowboarding is his main background and source of passion, skateboarding was his root, BMX is the new challenge!

Summer is Right Around the Corner!!

So you thought it was all over for TheAirBag with the ski resorts closing and the last of the snow melting with these 27C temperatures…we don’t go down that easily!!!

The summer opens up the door for our freedrop and bike sessions. With our custom ramp, we’ll be adding bike sessions to our events calendar and will hopefully have a more permanent setup location where you can come practice big air on your bikes with the assurance of a soft landing every time.

We’d like to hear from you and know where you’d like to see TheAirBag setup this summer. For sure, we’ll be making the tour of the downhill mtb resorts in Quebec.
