Naruto 531

Welcome all to Part 2 of my Naruto review double feature. And boy are you in for a doozie because this is one of the best chapters from an arc that has been consistently high quality. If I had one problem with the chapter, it was that the translations sometimes came off as wooden or confusing, so I apologize in advance if I read into certain scenes from the wrong way. I also apologize for the length of the review, because it’ll probably turn out lengthier than usual.

Naruto Ch. 531 Reunion, Team Asuma

This week’s Jump features Naruto on the cover page (so that we don’t forget who the main character is) and opens with a couple of color pages and poll results for favorite character. The opening color page shows the Allied Shinobi and White Zetsus locked in a battle of attrition. The shinobi are fighting in the background and in the foreground we can see the rough looking corpses of some shinobi and a zetsu. When I keep saying that I want to see the war result in more damage, this is what I was talking about. The fighting in the color page resembles a war of attrition more so than any chapter since chapter 523: ‘The Legendary Seven Swordsmen’.

The characters in focus are Asuma and Ino-Shika-Cho and the construction of these panels sets a sorrowful / tragic mood that continues for the rest of the chapter. Whilst the fighting continues in the background, Ino-Shika-Cho have met up with their sensei. As Ino-Shika-Cho stand ready determined and armed with kunai, Asuma looks at his students with a sorrowful expression, letting us know that this chapter is going to seriously bring the emotion.

Character poll results take up the next color spread, and aside from Team Kakashi (including Sai and Sasuke) making an appearance, there were some unusual outliers among the usual suspects. Gaara, Deidara, Hinata, and Shikamaru remain as popular as ever.Itachi, Sasori, Minato, and Iruka also charted, which is surprising given how these characters haven’t appeared in the manga for a while or if they did it wasn’t for long. Now onward to the meat of the chapter …

Oh it’s already been brought-en.

At first, Team Ino-Shika-Cho look resolved for the upcoming fight, telling their sensei to prepare himself. Their stature and resolve reflects how much they have grown as individuals and a proud Asuma complements them on how great they’ve become. Such kind praise unsettles Ino-Shika-Cho and each of them loses their composure. Kind-hearted Choji holds back tears and Ino looks heartbroken about what they have to do. Only Shikamaru remains resolved, although he appears to be forcing himself to focus. Considering that we knew this moment would come, I was startled with how emotional this scene me. Yet, as tragic as this scene is, there are other characters who would like to share in their sorrow.

Samurai Showdown

Somewhere in the forest, Samurai from the Fifth Division have shown up to relieve the Ambush Squad. Kankurou warns the Samurai about Hanzou’s poison, but they came prepared for such an eventuality with gas masks. As the Ambush Squad is taken away to the infirmary, one of the samurai reveals that the reason they wear masks is specifically to defend against poison from shinobi, suggesting that the history between shinobi and samurai is one fraught with turmoil. The remaining samurai move to backup Mifune, but he clearly wants to fight one on one with Hanzou. As the two legendary warriors cross katana and kusarigama, Hanzou begins a philosophical debate with the aged samurai. Hanzou asks Mifune why he, as a samurai belonging to an era long passed, is allying himself with shinobi. Hanzou doesn’t understand how a ronin running with shinobi could still call himself a samurai, further hammering home that samurai and ninja were once foes.

MIfune counters that he is just as devoted as previous samurai with the only difference being the cause he believes in: Peace. These sentiments begin to disconcert Hanzou for an as of yet unexplained reason. Mifune has faith that peace can be attained and he has devoted himself to that cause. The inevitability of conflict and the attainment of peace is a theme that Naruto keeps coming back to. Many if not most of the villains and adult characters in the manga have world views or personalities that have been influenced by war, and some have sought to attain peace in differing ways. Indeed, that is the issue this war is being fought for. Madara’s plan might be sinister and more than a little unethical, but Madara is attempting to attain peace, albeit at the cost of the populace’s free will by placing the world in a never-ending genjutsu.

Chiyo, trolling the ninja world since waaay before you were born.

Over on Kankurou’s end, he runs into a revived Chiyo who reassures him that she really did die and wasn’t just pretending again. Chiyo then reveals that she fought Hanzou numerous times in the past and knows the antidote for the poison and the weakness of his Salamander, which is it’s five minute recharge time between poison attacks. Thus, Chiyo becomes the second revived shinobi to explicitly inform the Allied Shinobi how to stop one of them and Hanzou is forced to tell Ibuse, his Salamander, to hide underground. Kabuto obviously needs to put a stop to this and seal off the personalities of shinobi who were very loyal to their villages during their lifetime. Itching for action, Kimimaro lunges at the samurai using his kekkai genkai. Shikotsumyaku proves more than a match for the samurai as Kimimaro’s bones are able to pierce through a samurai’s chakra infused blade.

Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Hanzou and Mifune continue to clash blades and Hanzou is impressed by Mifune’s skill. However, he is disdainful of Mifune’s pacifism. As Hanzou views it, believing in peace is really just deciding on neutrality. Moreover, neutrality is the act of avoiding conflict and it’s cause. Plainly put, neutrality is an act of running away from the world and it’s problems, a viewpoint that Mifune disagrees with. Hanzou assures Mifune that his worldview is grounded in experience. For Hanzou was once an idealistic and ambitious young shinobi who believed in peace. He desired to bring an end to war by uniting the five countries into one shinobi world, but he quickly realized that wasn’t possible. For the last few generations, the shinobi world has been embroiled in war and war only serves to bring death.

Hanzou then uses an example that Mifune should understand, the fate of the samurai. In the past, samurai might once have been useful in a war, but as ninjutsu and the shinobi world was developed, samurai lost their significance. Many samurai sought instead to become ninjas, and the remaining samurai began incorporating ninja arts into their studies. The era of samurai gave way to the era of ninja. And who best represents this era? Kakuzu. Kakuzu embodies an era in which convictions as well as any desire for peace has been set aside and instead skilled warriors became mercenaries for hire who seek only money. And thus this self-perpetuating system that relies on war replaced the era of the samurai. However, in this era there is war is constant and intermissions of peace are brief. And then, there’s death, after which nothing survives. Hanzou argues that not even his own legacy survived his death, and he was an extremely notable ninja. In fact, many people in the know, like Jiraiya, weren’t even aware that Hanzou had died until years after the fact. It is a nihilistic view that finds Hanzou despairing at the pointlessness of his existence, the samurais’ existence, and the shinobi’s existence. All of which is particularly dark and heady stuff for a manga. Philosophically, Hanzou reminds me of Ulquiorra from BLEACH who is also holds a nihilistic outlook about life. The resemblance makes me wonder that if Hanzou would simply give up and cease to fight if like that character he came to see the error of his reasoning.

It’s also worth noting that up until now, Hanzou has mostly fought using taijutsu. That fact couple with his in-depth knowledge of the samurai world suggests that once he too might have been a samurai who instead chose the shinobi way in order to become stronger. Or perhaps he is descended from a tradition founded by former samurai.

Contrarily, Mifune argues that peace is not merely a matter of life and death. Rather, peace is an ideal and a matter of faith in humanity and a better world, something that is beyond the scope of even death. Mifune goes on to equate people to the blade. Samurai believe that the katana is akin to a person. Mifune believes that after his death, he will continues to remain behind in his sword, Meitou Kurosawa. I’ll get to the first part of the sword’s name later, but for now we should note that Kurosawa is probably a reference to Akira Kurosawa. Kurosawa was an acclaimed Japanese filmmaker who has made many notable chanbara films like Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Hidden Fortress, and Ran. Possibly, Kishimoto is as much a fan of samurai films as I, and the solemn, philosophical tone of this chapter is in keeping with the aesthetics of chanbara.

That's right, I remember losing...so on that note, it's time to make a hasty retreat.

Hanzou isn’t convinced that people can be equated with slabs of iron and believes that Mifune should have committed seppuku when he outlasted his era. Alternatively, Mifune states that he has no reason to commit seppuku because his faith has never disappeared. Tired of arguing, Hanzou makes a seal as if to attack, but Mifune is fast enough to prevent him from using ninjutsu. Mastering Iai, the art of the draw, Mifune is so fast that all he needs is the opening created by using a hand seal to attack an opponent.

In the heat of the battle, Hanzou gets deja vu. Mifune tells Hanzou that they fought once before when they were younger. Hanzou is confused as to why Mifune isn’t dead if they’ve fought before, and Mifune reveals that Hanzou’s Kusari-gama broke his sword and struck his head. Hanzou then remembers leaving the young samurai left for dead and vows to finish the job. Despite his previous loss, Mifune informs Hanzou that a shinobi of his skill should have realized whether or not he would be killed and implies his sword isn’t as strong as it used to be. Again I am reminded of Ulquiorra because both characters were limited in that they ignored those things that their eyes couldn’t see. In this case, Hanzou becomes upset when Mifune implies that he cannot see the difference between their strength.

Sometimes dead men tell the best tales.

Unsettled by his enemies words, Hanzou reflects upon his death at the hands of Pain. The flashback opens with Hanzou laying against a fence, battered, wounded, and bleeding. A pile of shinobi corpses lay in a pile, presumably his body guards. Hanzou can’t believe someone could best him in combat and asks for his opponents name before recognizing the deceased Yahiko’s body. Pain, angry at his betrayal by Danzo and Hanzou, is openly contemptuous of the man he once respected. Since Pain once respected Hanzou, we can infer that Hanzou was indeed an idealistic shinobi seeking peace at some point in his youth. But dejected and unable to achieve his original goal, he became a man concerned only with his own protection. About to face death by Shinra Tensei, Hanzou can’t understand why he lost, which Pain finds just as pitiful as Mifune. Strong as Hanzou may be, Pain has the greater faith in his ideals.

Let us consider Pain for a moment. As a student of Jiraiya, he too believed in peace and along with Yahiko and Konan he tried to fulfill his sensei’s dream. But Hanzou had already given up his ideals and was concerned only with maintaining his power. Believing Akatsuki to be a threat to his rule, he conspired with Danzo of the Hidden Leaf to assassinate Yahiko. And almost as though by divine retribution, Hanzo directly created the vengeful demon that would take his own life and the life of anyone ever acquainted with him. Gone was a Nagato that could believe in attaining peace through civil means. In his place was born a wrathful god that sought to pacify the world through fear. Before Hanzou’s betrayal, Akatsuki had become a respected and commendable organization. Had he held onto his beliefs, Hanzou not only could have prevented his death, but he might have (at least) delayed the Fourth Shinobi World War, kept the Akatsuki out of Madara’s hands, and stood a chance of brokering peace between the nations. I’m not saying Hanzou could have prevented the current war, but had he made different decisions and lived long enough to see the start of Madara’s war, then he might have become the leader of the Joint Shinobi Forces. After all, Hanzou was in charge of the country that could have brokered a peace to end the Third Shinobi World War.

He's actually the second ninja to go shirtless this chapter.

Back in the present, Hanzou tries to figure out what he’s not getting, and it’s telling that he puts it into terms of not being able to see something. He relies upon his visual sight too much. Ibuse emerges from underground and swallows Mifune to poison him, but Mifune cuts his way out of Ibuse. We know that summoned animals can die, which means Ibuse is probably done for. Mifune explains that katanas that stay sharp become Meitou and will ultimately last and remain, even after its owner passes away. The sword remains a monument to the will and focus of the samurai. As the two men lung towards each other, Hanzou has a flash back to the bout in which he injured Mifune. In the flashback, both men are fighting in the same style that they currently use.

When the flashback ends, both Hanzou and his weapon have been cut through. So fast was Mifune’s slash that his blade remained unstained. As Hanzou looks on in disbelief, Mifune lectures him on the nature of heroes. Heroes are those that put their life on the line for their beliefs. Hanzou had forsaken his belief in peace and in accepting the inevitability of war and ways of the shinobi world, he bloodied his blade. Mifune elaborates further by saying that people are like swords. Bluntness will not last and by bending his beliefs, Hanzou lost the sharpness he once possessed. On that note, the manga ends, but let’s not forget that Hanzou is an Edo Tensei summon, so recovering from such a wound is no problem.

Impressions

This week’s chapter was spectacular. The tone was more solemn and philosophical than usual and to great effect. The opener with Team Asuma was emotional, and the color pages were great. For me, the best part of the chapter was the fight between Mifune and Hanzou which was as much a battle of ideals as it was an actual battle. Mifune demonstrated how capable the samurai, were which we needed after they were so easily taken care of by Sasuke during the Kage Summit arc. And Hanzo came across as a tragic character, having warped his ideals and suffering an unpredictable death. And I like that we got a glimpse of how Pain took over the Hidden Rain. Overall, the chapter delivered on all fronts. If I had one disappointment, it was that Hanzou didn’t use any ninjutsu.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Predictions

My predictions for this chapter were pretty spot on. Asuma and Ino-Shika-Cho began their confrontation and Hanzou, Chiyo, and Kimimaro began their battles. Although, the chapter didn’t contain what I most wanted to see, which was Dan’s technique.

Next chapter, I predict we will pick up from the Hanzou fight, with him recovering and finally managing to use some ninjutsu. We’ll probably also see a bit of Asuma’s fight along with Kakuzu and Dan. And hopefully, Dan releases his technique.

Ichigo and Chad run to Orihime, and they find...

Oh...

Summary:
Chad tries to track down Orihime's location by her reiatsu. Ichigo follows and wants to call Orihime, but Chad advises against it as Orihime may be in danger. Chad can't pinpoint Orihime's location, but based on the direction Ichigo concludes that Orihime is at her apartment.

In front of her apartment, Orihime confronts Tsukishima, but Tsukishima doesn't appear intimidated or interested either. While Orihime is pondering what to do, Tsukishima suddenly turns around and looks as if he's walking away. Orihime tries to summon her powers, but somehow Tsukishima ends up behind her and stabs his sword through her back. A little while later, Ichigo and Chad arrive to find Orihime sitting on the floor looking shaken but otherwise uninjured. The guys ask Orihime what happened, but Orihime decides she can't tell Ichigo anything and lies that she was with a friend and that her stomach hurt. After the guys leave, Orihime wonders why she thought of Tsukishima as a friend and wonders what did Tsukishima do to her. Meanwhile, Chad knows the Orihime is trying to hide something from Ichigo and thus he decides to not say too much to Ichigo.

Back at Xcution's bar, Ginjou is gulping down the booze when Ichigo arrives demanding answers. Ginjou then states that the person who attacked Orihime and Ishida was probably Tsukishima, a Fullbring user and a former ally of the group.

Hmmm... so despite the page of Tsukishima stabbing Orihime, Kubo actually balked at having anything dramatic happen to Orihime. No Orihime getting a miraculous power-up, no serious injury or death, not even a kidnapping. Instead, Bleach went with the mores subtle route and had Tsukishima implant a thought into Orihime using his Fullbring. It'll probably become important later down the line, but if you were hoping that Orihime would do something significant in this chapter then you are out of luck.

It's no surprise that Ginjou and company knows Tsukishima, but I'm still not convinced that Tsukishima is a "former" ally at least when Ginjou is concerned. For Ginjou, it's guilty until proven innocent lol. Now that I thought about it, shouldn't Ichigo have asked the question about Uryu's attacker before he left with Chad? Wasn't finding the attacker one of the main reasons why Ichigo joined Xcution? At least he finally asked this week, and the knowledge on how Tsukishima's Fullbring works will come in handy when it comes to dealing with Tsukishima and Orihime (who might become brainwashed/mind-controlled).

Zoro vs Hodi fight will probably be short and then stopped somehow. Honestly can't see another outcome, since we still need to add a bit of time for Luffy to meet Jinbe, and if Hodi is the main villain he wont be defeated yet. But at the same time, even Oda wouldn't want to make Zoro appear weak in his first fight back.

I like the prediction the princes will turn up and fight. Then again, possibility that King Neptune might turn around to save Zoro. Sure, he seems weak and annoying, but Mermen/maids are the fastest creatures in the ocean. I wouldn't be surprised if he can at least hold off Hodi to allow Zoro to escape to some air.

Summary:
At Xcution's apartment, Ichigo is dismissed from his training session as using Fullbring too much can be stressful on the body. Meanwhile in front of Chad's apartment, Tsukishima introduces himself to Orihime, but Shishigawara insists that he can finish the job. Deciding the Shishigawara is too noisy, Tsukishima pulls out his Fullbring sword to punish his underling, but Orihime gets in the way and confronts Tsukishima about his attack on Uryu.

Shortly after, Ichigo and Chad arrive at Chad's apartment, and Chad senses that Orihime's reiatsu is strange and alerts Ichigo that something may have happened to Orihime.

Not much progress this week. Ichigo's first training session is over, but now Orihime gets kidnapped. Kidnapping is probably the most predictable route to go, since I'd be surprised if Orihime fends off her attackers, and a little shocking if Orihime ends up on the floor in a pool of blood. Time for Ichigo to rescue the damsel in distress again I suppose. As expected, Tsukishima also has a Fullbring, although we can't say if he's linked to Ginjou or not. It'd be more interesting if Ginjou is one of the bad guys and is trying trick Ichigo into doing something bad.

Summary:
Mr. Pork Chop transforms into a larger and less-cute form and starts tearing up the floor inside the dollhouse. Chad tells Riruka to put a stop to the training, but apparently Riruka let Giriko use his Fullbring to put some "timers" into the training. The first timer at 15 minutes is Mr. Pork Chop's transformation, and the second timer is 30 minutes at which both Ichigo and Mr. Pork Chop can leave. If either try to leave the dollhouse before the timer is up they will be incinerated by the "Flames of Time", and the timers cannot be deactivated once set. And thus Ichigo is still stuck in the dollhouse with Mr. Pork Chop. Back inside the dollhouse, Ichigo throws a button into Mr. Pork Chop's eye and gets behind some cover, but he isn't sure what he's supposed to do. Chad runs over and tells Ichigo to look into his "pride" in being a shinigami to activate his Fullbring. Ichigo holds his representative shinigami badge and thinks of all the moments and finally thinks of Rukia, and the badge suddenly activates and turns into a large, black "ban" (as in bankai) symbol.

The training setup is getting more ridiculous by the chapter, but at least Ichigo is getting somewhere his training. Trapping Ichigo (sans shinigami powers) with a giant, crazy stuff animal with no means of escape for 30 minutes... I guess Xcution must be so confident in Ichigo's ability to manifest a Fullbring they think that there is no way Ichigo will get himself killed. Or looking at the other way, if Ichigo dies during training, then he ain't worth the effort lol.

It's appropriate that Ichigo's Fullbring activated when he thought of Rukia. Seeing the symbol, the first thing I thought was it's a giant ninja star. And then I thought it's the "ban" symbol in bankai (卍解). It is a swastika-shaped symbol, but I doubt there is anything to do with Nazis here. If it is the 'ban' symbol, does it mean that the new ability will be similar or related to Ichigo's bankai? I guess we'll just have to stay tuned to the transformation sequence next chapter.

Synopsis: Here we go. This week’s Bleach picks up with Ichigo running, rather comically, from a (not quite) giant teddy-bear. At the site of this, his manhood is questioned by Riruka, who apparently expected him to… well, pull an Ichigo (lol) and power up to super-saiyan 37.5 instantly. Uh, not happening. Ichigo, being the sensible guy he is, asks some very logical questions about his predicament which what’s-her-face answers very lamely. Basically, she can choose items (or people) and insert them into things she ‘loves’, shrinking them in the process. Right. So the bear carries on trying to pummel Ichigo, who continues running. Riruka tells Ichigo to use Fullbring as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, and Ichigo asks the question that is on everybody’s mind: “Isn’t this training in order to get back my SHINIGAMI powers??” …Really, isn’t it? Anyway, she blows him off, and the back and forth continues. Suddenly, the bear is telling Ichigo to stop running. I’m serious. Just wait till you read his name (lol!). There’s a random yakuza dude trapped in the bear, who can’t get out unless he kills Ichgo in fifteen minutes… or so he’s been told anyway. The chase goes on. While running, Ichigo gets his Sherlock Holmes on and tries to deduct the mystery of Fullbrings. Meanwhile, Chad comes back from grocery shopping (:|), and is shocked to find Ichigo doing dollhouse training already. After pulling off the house’s roof he alerts Ichigo, who has just come to the same conclusion (Holmes cracks another case!), to use his… (Read the chap ). However, at the same time, fifteen minutes is up and something’s happening to the bear…
Best Character: Ichigo. His sensible logic in this chap was hilarious imo.
Worst Character: Riruka. Lame, lame, lame. Everything about. I shall say no more.
Likes: The comedy. Ichigo screaming and running all over the place, screaming questions at Riruka, and generally screaming.
Dislikes: The fact that I was kinda liking where the plot was going, but it just seems to be going towards filler quality right now. Hopefully this changes. Also, no progress whatsoever towards Ichigo’s shinigami powers.

Every manga has its own little group of anuses and in Naruto, they are the Feudal Lords. Little do they know that a threatening presence is encroaching upon one of their hiding places. Uchiha Madara’s loyal dog, Zetsu, takes advantage of his abilities to get closer to the hiding place without being noticed. As long as the Kages have access to their funds, I couldn’t care less if the Feudal Lords died during the war. Power to Zetsu! xD So, black Zetsu emerges from his hiding place in a flash of movement, dodges various traps that have been set up, gets to where he believes the helpless Feudal Lords are and then….! (read the chapter ) Meanwhile, Darui, the 1st division general of the Allied Shinobi Forces, comes into contact with an army of white Zetsus that emerges from the sea. The levelheaded and cool general reassures the Shinobi in his division by releasing his awesome and deadly Lightning Element called Black Panther! Tenten also joins in the battle and pwnds some of the white zetsu with an onslaught of steal projectile weapons. Neji’s revived father Hizashi meets his twin brother on the battlefield. They talk….Moving on! Kankuro and company encounter Chiyo, the skilled puppeteer and the legendary badass, Hanzo of the Salamander…(there’s also the bone dude Kimimaro and some other guy I don’t know). Kankuro tells his subordinates that they will retreat on his signal but I think they should just scream like little girls and run the hell away. Don’t think it would make that big of a difference. I mean…Hanzo?? The super strong bloke that the Sannin couldn’t even touch back in the day? Scream and run guys…scream and run lol. I kind of like Kankuro so I hope he doesn’t die. Ōnoki, the third Tsuchikage of Iwagakure (the short, miserable old man who likes to complain about his back) meets up with Gaara-kun and seems about ready to kick some ass. Then, the spotlight goes back to the laid back Darui who casually boasts about his Storm Element Technique to two formidable enemies. More fighting in the next chapter! I hope…

Best Character: Darui was pretty decent I suppose. He needs to shut up and get a move on with the fighting. I kind of like his lazy personality though.

Worst Character (s): Hizashi and Hiashi. Whenever someone meets a loved one who has been revived, the pages are wasted on flashbacks and boring family talk. At the end of the day I suppose it’s necessary and can’t be helped…

Likes: Deidara brought a little bit of comic relief to the chapter, which was fine. Darui’s Lightning Element Technique was pretty cool. There were several things going on in this chapter so things were a bit fast paced, despite the boring convos.

Dislikes: Well, I’ve been very annoyed with Naruto lately. At first the whole resurrection thing sounded kind of cool, but now it’s such a drag with all the reminiscing and talking about the past and so forth. I suppose it’s necessary >.< Also, the manga’s main supporting characters are hardly in the spotlight now. I miss the old days when there were epic fights like Rock Lee vs Gaara etc. Don’t get me wrong, the fights after the time skip such as Jiraiya vs Pain, Naruto vs Pain, Sasuke vs my lovely Itachi and even Sakura (who always turns out to be a useless crybaby) vs Sasori were pretty much epic as well. I’ll be waiting patiently for fights that are on that level of epicness in this war. However I want to see some more action with people like Rock Lee, Neji, Kakashi, Gaara, Naruto and even though I can’t stand him, Sasuke. Oh, how could I forget that ossm fight between Shikamaru & Hidan! Brilliance…Shika has to try and top that now Anyway, I’m sure things will get even more interesting later on…

Synopsis: This week’s One Piece puts an amusing twist to Lady Macbeth’s blandishments, “…Things without all remedy should be without regard: what’s done, is done.” {Shakespearean Tragedy: Macbeth Act 3 Scene 2 } At the end of the day I suppose you really couldn’t care less about that lol… So! At the start of the chapter, we see the King Triton/Santa Claus hybrid {King Neptune of course xD} all chained up and incapacitated along with the palace guards and courtiers etc etc. The Straw Hat pirates brought a lot of comic relief to the chapter with their constant bickering over the fact that they should not have treated the Kingdom’s royalty in such a rough manner. However, Zorro tells everyone to stop complaining because the deed had already been done….hence the Shakespearean allusion. The pirate crew’s unique personalities come spilling out, with Nami getting her sassy on at the mere thought of treasure and with Brook being a plain old retard The crew then discuss the urgent need to escape but pressing issues regarding their log pose and pirate ship would somehow have to be addressed first. I just love how Nami switches from being annoyed and exasperated to sweet and innocent in order to get what she wants. While she does this, everyone is alerted of the arrival Prince Fukaboshi and his brothers, who are strongest of Neptune’s army. Before, when I heard that there was a prince I was like, hmmm a prince…. Then, when I saw princess Shirahoshi, I thought…wow she looks pretty decent. So, I said to myself… well if the princess can look like that, I wonder what the prince will look like . Then, I finally saw the prince…………………*sigh. On top of that, I saw his brothers……………. >.< It makes perfect sense that they’re related to King Neptune but how in the world are they in anyway related to the princess?? Why do guys in One Piece always look so retarded? {with the exception of Zorro, Sanji, Ace, Shanks, my hubby Mihawk ♥ and a few others …} I think there should be a male equivalent of Boa Hancock in OP! Without the crazy sexism of course lol kukuku…. Omg! Remember Duval?? That guy who always tries to wink after he got his screwed up face rearranged by Sanji’s kicks? lmao wow….memories. Oda is hilarious. But no….Duval does not cut it

Back to the manga. Yes, so King Neptune and company are being held hostage. Despite his unflattering looks, Prince Fukaboshi seems like a very wise and judicious Fishman and agrees to negotiate with the Straw Hat Pirates in order to save the King. He also delivers a very important message to them o.O (Read the chapter!) The scene changes and we are brought to Fishman Island Coral Hill where the racoon pwnds everyone (I couldn’t get Kung Fu Panda out of my head then) who tries to get near to Sanji. They find out about the situation at Ryuuguu Palace and Sanji, the wanna-be libertine, is determined to go just to meet/save the mermaid princess. “IF SHE’S BEAUTIFUL YOU’LL DIE INSTANTLY!!” lmao! Next, we see Luffy and Princess Shirahoshi for the first time in this chapter. They’re still all alone in that tower *wink. How will they manage to escape without attracting attention? Read the chaaaapterr However, they along with everyone else in the castle, hear a very strange and threatening noise. The King and his subjects express their inquietude and worry over the princess’ safety and of aaalll people, Brook the perverted panty lover, rushes to save her along with one of the palace guards. On their way, they are shocked after discovering the cause of the earlier racket…. (This sounds more like a summary than a review >.< And it’s soooo long. Oh well, too bad )

One Piece Chapter 613 Review

Synopsis: Right! So this week’s One Piece starts off with the appearance of a fishman named Vander Decken, who is a Flying Pirates Captain. This pimp-ish looking fella actually has the hots for the mermaid princess, Shirahoshi. However, it seems this his love is unrequited (I mean, look at the guy…he has four legs, wears platform shoes and anklets and he reminds me of Flavor Flav…sex appeal = EPIC FAIL). As a result of being rejected, he often tries to kill her. He received a curse known as Mato-Mato that allows him to have perfect aim at any target he desires and from any distance. Even though he looks retarded it seems as though he is capable of putting up a decent fight. The spotlight then veers to the breast-bouncing Luffy who inadvertently found the giant mermaid Princess Shirahoshi. Naturally, she becomes frightened and starts screaming until Luffy saves her from a large axe that whizzes into the room with terrifying speed just as the large doors are opened. Her vociferous cries alert the attention of the palace guards who come rushing in to see if she is okay. {By this time she grabs and hides Luffy} The guards inform her that the Straw Hat Pirates are now suspects in the mermaid kidnapping and instead of feasting with them, they will be locked in the castle’s prison. After they leave the room, The Princess holds Luffy in her great big hands and with a blush on her face she engages him in conversation about the unfortunate events regarding his crew. What is it with hot girls and Luffy?? Lucky bastard…poor Sanji. The princess tells Luffy that she has been locked up in the tower for 10 years because of Decken’s persistent attempts at taking her life. Luffy then decides that they should get out of the tower together and promises to protect her from danger. Sounds romantic right? Well it’s not. Akainu will bump and grind Boa Hancock before Luffy becomes romantic xD. So! We are then thrown into action with Usopp, Brook and Nami who are surrounded by the castle guards. As they prepare themselves to launch their first attack, the almighty giant, King Neptune, steps in and wields his powerful trident thing. He brings his gigantic weapon down with terrifying force and then….ZORRO!!! (Read the chapter! fufufufu…) Meanwhile, Vander Decken, the pimp who the princess rejected, teams up with Hodi Jones in their quest to wage war against King Neptune and his kingdom! Finally! It looks like we’ll be getting some decent action. After two years of training, I’m dying to see the Straw Hat Pirates do some serious damage. Keep your fingers crossed!

Best Character: Zorro!

Worst Character (s): Castle guards…and even though he’s not in this chap – Caribou! Franky needs to slap him around.

Likes: Even though there was a lot of talking in this chapter, things were still fast paced and entertaining with the promise of all the fighting scenes we’ve been waiting patiently for. Vander Decken’s get up is funny enough. Luffy’s attitude towards the princess is hilarious – “I don’t like you! hahaha!” It reminds me of the cold but comical way Boa Hancock, the most beautiful woman in One Piece, was harshly and continuously rejected by him. “NO! I WON’T MARRY YOU!!” (Ouch) Also, we got to see Luffy act like a total glutton again! He’s definitely one of my favourite characters in this manga. In all, the chapter was pretty good.

Dislikes: Everything seemed fine really. I hope the princess doesn’t continue to be whiny and annoying though. However Luffy-kun won’t have any scruples about shutting her up. By the way, where is Sanji again? :S Ah well, at least we have the mighty Zorro for now!

Anime (Episode 485): I completely forgot about this week’s episode and so I just watched it a few minutes ago. I was reminded of how much I completely loathe that foul and degenerate piece of vermin shi** called Blackbeard. I HATE him sooo much! Gahh! I teared up a bit at the part when Whitebeard was being riddled with bullets. It was sooo sad and heartless

I'm actually kinda disappointed in Natsu just when we thought he'd be more wiser regarding his enemies, he still just goes straight on going to try get himself killed. On the other hand.... Dragon God??!! good lord, Mashima really knows how to make his readers on the edge of their seats. But overall, chapter was meh.

This chapter was really good and i love how the tide is turning ahhhhh. 'fire god dragon' sound interesting i think it will show who really is the god of fire hahahahah. Nooo poor makarov i dont want him to die but at this point it seems really likely.

I like how mashima incorporated natsus lesson on fear, it put some surprising character development into natsu that even zancrow is surprised about.
am i the only one who finds natsu being pawned somewhat satisfying even though i want him to win?

That means the first part of the slave arc is nearly finished.

An awesome chapter that was, I didn't expect Thorfinn to change this much in only one chapter but it won't be easy from here on. (Askeladd appearing made my day, what a great speech ) I'm curious to see how they will do from now on, an escape seems possible but not likely, as the slave arc will continue.
Now Thorfinn finally understand what his father said to him back then, still I wonder if we won't see any more violence. Yukimura is a great mangaka but there has to be a clashing point at some point, maybe he will use Canute.

Gantz 332 Review

Kaze: Man, do I look that old?

Summary:
At the Gantz apartment, an older man is transmitted into the room, and Gantz reports that there are only two more people coming. Another person is transmitted into the room and Kato recognizes him as the nerdy kid from the Osaka team.

Meanwhile inside the city ship, Kurono #1 has forced Fra to don the mechanized armor of one of the dead soldiers, and all the human escapees are carried in bags around Fra's waist. Another soldier appears and asks Fra what's in the bags, and Fra gets away by saying that the bags are rations for other soldiers. Fra then continues walking towards the exit.

In the alien apartment, the alien girl put Tae back in the tank but she doesn't notice that Shun is sick. Shun is on the ground shaking and saying that he feel cold, and Tae tries to use her own body to warm Shun.

I had a feeling that the nerdy kid from the Osaka team would show up. If he managed to survive, there is no way he wouldn't come a see Kato. We'll have to see if the nerdy kid managed to revive the single mom that Kato liked (she was killed at the end of the Nura alien mission). Maybe she'll be the last Gantzer to answer the call.

There is not much progress inside the city ship. Kurono #1 is still trying to find the way out, while Shun is still sick and untreated. Tae is now trying to warm Shun with her body, but I don't know if that's the best idea since whatever Shun has may be contagious. Or worse, Shun could be trying to trick her for sex. I still don't see where Tae and Shun's little drama will lead, but the author seems to be bent on making something out the situation.

Sekirei 110 Review

So apparently there was a real Sekirei chapter this month, or I read the special late. Anyways, in this chapter Miya reveals what she really is.

The two main waifus get the first hug.

Summary:
In front of the Izumo Inn, Miya questions if Minato has the courage to stop disaster from happening, and Minato realizes that he is afraid of losing more companions (Sekireis) in the upcoming battles. At this moment, Musubi, Tsukiumi, Matsu and Kusano return from their successful mission. Minato is so happy that everyone made it back safely that he immediately hugs Musubi and Tsukiumi. The returning four learn that Uzume was taken out by one of Higa's Sekirei. Kusano wonders if Uzume is dead, and Minato holds Kusano in his arms and tearfully answers that Uzume won't die. At this moment, Miya decides to reveal that she is Sekirei no. 1, although technically she is neither Sekirei nor human. Miya then promises to reveal the bloody history of the Sekirei Plan.

Looks like we are going to be treated to story time once again, and this time we'll get Miya's version of the whole thing. Since Miya was the first one to exist, she probably knows more than most of the other Sekireis, and Miya revealing the secrets also means that Matsu, Kazehana and Homura's gag orders will be lifted. As for the chapter itself, not much happens other than Miya revealing her true identity, and of course that identity is only secret to Minato and some of the younger Sekireis. This still leaves the mystery of who is the no. 00 pictured in some of the previous chapters. I'm guessing it's probably Miya but in a different state, but we'll see.

Naruto 525 Review

More zombies lead to more upcoming battles.

For amusement, Kabuto could leave the 2nd Mizukage and Tsuchikage alone and let them go at each other.

Summary:
Realizing the 2nd Tsuchikage Mu has been detected by Gaara's forces, Kabuto makes the Tsuchikage summon the zombies of the 2nd Mizukage, the 4th Kazekage (Gaara's dad), and the 3rd Raikage (the current Raikage's dad). Meanwhile, Darui's forces near the coast are faced with thousands of Zetsu clones, resurrected Leaf ninjas, Kakuzu, and two powerful ninjas from the Cloud known as the Kin and Gin Brothers. At the Shinobi Army command center, A (the current Raikage) gets news of the attacking forces from the sensors and wants to join the fray, but Shikaku advises him against it. Shikaku then formulates a complex plan to respond to the zombies and Zetsu clones and talks A into agreeing with the plan, but Onoki (the current Tsuchikage) adds that he has to go stop Mu because Mu has the ability beyond a bloodline limit called a "bloodline expansion".

Back in the rocky area, the four Kage zombies are chatting, and Gaara's dad senses that Gaara is spying on them. Meanwhile, Black Zetsu makes his way to the buildings where the feudal lords are staying.

Instead of getting a fight between Gaara and Mu, we get a chapter that introduces a whole lot of other zombies and sets up for a bunch of more battles. Gaara will probably be fighting his father instead and Onoki will handle Mu, but we don't know who is going to handle the other two Kages or the other zombies quite yet. The good guys have held up so far, but with Kage-class enemies popping up and Black Zetsu getting to the feudal lords, things probably won't go quite as smoothly as Shikaku and the current Kages had planned. Two things we do know for sure are 1) things will probably get much worse for the good guys before they get better and 2) it'll probably be a long time before we see Naruto in action. Hopefully the next round of battles will be more fun than what has been shown thus far.
