“Calling Metropolis,” the Guild’s next production, will be performed at the Caldwell Civic Center on July 26 and 27. Auditions are scheduled for April 8 and 11, 6-8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 306 W. Fox St., in the Fellowship Hall. No experience needed, just an interest in acting, support, or technical experience.
“Calling Metropolis” is an original play written by Sean Thompson and will be directed by Ed Wetterman, who played “Jeff” in “The Curious Savage.”; The Guild is fortunate to have Ed, a theatre arts major, who previously played “Captain Mayhem” and is well-versed in this play.
The play is a modern melodrama where a masked superhero must overcome his evil nemesis, General Mayhem, protect his secret identity, save Bobo the cat, help Police Chief Maggie May rid the city of crime, and win the heart of the beautiful reporter Tory Tucker. Can he save the city he loves? Can he defeat General Mayhem in time? This is a screwball comedy that is also a modern melodrama.
The characters are “Captain Avenger” (male), a masked caped and costumed figure. Secretly he is “Harvey Hanson,” a bumbly, nebbish “gopher” for WSUP TV News. “Tory Tucker” (female) is a knockout investigative reporter for WSUP TV News. “Chet Logan” (male) is a typical WASP news anchor for the TV station, handsome in a plastic sort of way. “Maggie May” (female) is the city’s new chief of police, a handsome, mature type. “General Mayhem” (male) is Captain Avenger’s nemesis. “Vinnie” (male/female) is a crook who has a fetish for makeup. “Dice” (male /female) is another crook with no such fetish. “Priest” (male) is a confessor to Harvey. “Ninjas” (male/female) are disguised thugs for “General Mayhem”. “Spectator” (male or female) is for the news reports. Male voices are needed for the phone-in shows.

Summer Camp Opportunity of a lifetime for Aspiring Performers

Caldwell, Texas– “School plays, college applications, job interviews and first impressions are all

all areas in life” states New York Television and Broadway Casting Director David Petro. Mr. Petro is
bringing Broadway to your backyard with his Broadway Break Thru workshops offer July 20, 21, and
22. Mr. Petro continues to say, “I often

find fresh new talent by traveling to teach these workshops that
I wouldn’t have access to by remaining in New York. As a casting director, discovering new talent is
like discovering a pot of gold.”
Mr. Petro has worked as a casting director for many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions
including; For Colored Girls starring India.Arie and produced by Whoopi Goldberg, Altar Boyz, Pages
and Drift. David’s work extends beyond NYC to include regional shows for; Altar Boyz (Nederlander
tour, Rep. of St Louis & Cincinnati Playhouse), Dreamgirls at The Fox starring Jennifer Holliday, The
Wizard Of Oz (KC Starlight/Fox Atlanta/Bass Hall), Loving, Repeating (Stephen Flaherty & Frank
Galati world premiere) and Shear Madness (Chicago Theater), along with national tours for The 25th
Putnam County Spelling Bee (National Tour & Chicago Co.) and Altar Boyz. In addition to his many
theatre credits, David has worked in TV casting Nickelodeon’s Storyforia, The Beatkinz, and NBC’s
You’re The One That I Want.
As a performer David has appeared on Broadway and in national tours of; CATS, Cabaret, First You
Dream (a benefit for Christopher Reeve), A Christmas Carol, the 20th anniversary national tour of A
Chorus Line, and the original European tour and cast recording of Fame The Musical. He also appeared
in the feature film Batman & Robin and was a series regular on the Television show Fame LA.
David is a dance and voice double major graduate of The Chicago Academy for The Arts and attended
Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. He is currently a guest faculty member for New York
University, Julliard School of Music, Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and Northwestern
University.
An actor turned casting director; Petro states that he did so in order to be a greater influence to the
industry truly loves. He leaves aspiring actors this piece of advice, “Study your art form as much as
possible. Also find ways to protect and sustain the joy you have for the performing. It is a tough
business with a lot of competition and rejection. Preserve your soul and career longevity with a strong
support system, creative outlets and a huge savings account.”
The workshop will be held at the Caldwell Civic Center, July 20, 21, 22. Three sessions will be
offered each day: Acting, Vocal Performance, and Theatre Dance. Each session will cost $65, or
$50 if payment is received before June 15th. All three sessions can be combined for a fee of $175,
or $125 if paid before June 15. July 20 will be for ages 8-13 only and July 21 will be for ages 14
thru adult. And, July 22 will be open to all ages 8 to adult to accommodate busy schedules,
overflow, and/or the need to combine classes. On the Wednesday and Thursday evenings, at
5:00pm, David will host a special session called “Parents Business of Show” covering the aspect of
children in show business and what parents should know if they choose to pursue a career. The
cost for this session will be $20 per family.
