Street Team Ambassadors will theatrically promote various Broadway and specialty shows by distributing fliers in the Times Square area and beyond.  Female dancers & actors are encouraged to apply.  Experience in acting, dancing or singing is a plus.  Schedule can be part time and flexible to allow for auditions, callbacks and other part time jobs.

HIGH PREFERENCE for: those available to work on holidays (Thanksgiving day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day). Looking for female performers who can start as of November 1st and working at least 2 of those holidays.

THE MOVES:

 

THE WAITRESS:  Stand with feet slightly wider than your hips. Lower your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. Tighten your core, and break at your hips and push your butt back. Make sure you keep your back straight. When you get to the bottom of the squat, hold it and make a large mixing gesture. For the additional burn, hold a light hand weight in your hands as you make the mixing gesture. Or, for the theatrical flair, maybe hold your own mixing spoon. Rotate once counterclockwise. Keeping everything tight, push upwards through the balls of your feet into a standing mood. Then, repeat but this rep making the motion clockwise. [TARGETS: LEGS/BUTS]

THE CHICAGO: Keep your upper body straight, with your shoulders back. Take your left left and step it forward.  Lower your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. When you’re at the bottom, channel your inner Merry Murderess, push your opposite arm forward and stab the air! Repeat with the opposite leg/arm. [TARGETS: LEGS/BUTS]

 

 

THE HAMILTON:  Stand with feet slightly wider than your hips. Take your left hand weight (or your heaviest book), and press up above your head. Repeat this with the 16 times (one for each Tony nomination). Switch arms, and repeat again for 16 reps. At the top, channel your inner Hamilton! [TARGETS: ARMS]

 

THE KINKY BOOTS: These are basic leg lifts.Lie down on one side. Put your top hand down on the floor to stabilize yourself.  Your legs should be extended and stacked on top of one another. Slowly raise your top leg as high as you can. Then bring it back down. Do 3 sets of 10 on each side. Get that booty working! [TARGET: GLUTES]

 

 

THE LION KING: This will be your generic sit up. But as you sit up, lift your arms up as if you’re presenting baby Simba. [TARGET: ABS]

 

 

THE ON YOUR FEET: Get on your feet, literally! Run in place, with all of your weight in your toes and your upper body is tight with limited movement.

 

 

THE BOOK OF MORMON: Time to say “Hello!” to cardio again. Start with feet in hips with distance. Run in place with your knees high and above your waist.

And with the help of MAMA, Will was soon all everyone was talking out.

Over the course of the final weekend of the Public’s Julius Caesar in Central Park, theatreMAMA teamed up again with Turner Broadcasting to create an activation promoting the new show Will on TNT. Our brand ambassadors, joined by Coney Island Circus performers, helped create the atmosphere of London back when Shakespeare first arrived to the scene. Loud and rambunctious, our team enticed the nearby Shakespeare in the Park ticket line to start their mornings by rockin’ out with Will on TNT by making their way up and down the line to give out free Will TNT canvas tote bags with a special surprise inside. While most of their eyes were heavy with sleep when the team first made their way down the line, over time the crowds were bright eyed and bushy tailed at the exciting free gift. Conversations quickly began flowing, and our ambassadors revealed the tantalizing plot of the new TV series. Given that the line was filled with several Shakespeare enthusiasts, our team was met with excitement over a new tale about their beloved Bard.

Once the totes had been handed out, our team spread out over the area near the Delacorte Theatre to spread the word of the Will on TNT marketplace by the box office. In the marketplace there were circus performers upon a stage performing throughout the day a variety of acts such as contortionists, juggling and sword swallowing. Some of our team joined them in the marketplace to apply temporary tattoos and push the hashtag #WillTNT on Instagram and Twitter. All pictures posted with the hashtag were printed out instantly on a commemorative Will on TNT polaroid.

With the beautiful summer weather for most of the day, everyone found it the perfect way to celebrate the closing weekend of Julius Caesar and create some hype over the exciting new TV show. Will premiered on July 10 at 9pm on TNT. MAMA worked hard to bring the world of Will on TNT to life throughout New York City. Will is a drama about the lost years of young William Shakespeare after his arrival to London in 1589 — when theatre was like rock and roll and a young man with a dream changed the world with his words.

Every year there is a special night in the Broadway community that everyone looks to with excitement and anticipation. That night is the Tony Awards. The best of the best are awarded for their spectacular performances from the past Broadway season. And, with Broadway already so full of amazing talent, you can only imagine how difficult a decision it is to award someone with that coveted award.

However, while performers made their way to their seats at Radio City Music Hall to prepare for their special night, many theatre enthusiasts and aspiring actors filed into Lansdowne’s Road in Hell’s Kitchen to watch the Tony Awards in style thanks to theatreMAMA. With over 80 guests joining us for a night of theatre magic, it is fair to say that theatreMAMA’s Annual Tony Awards Party was a success!

Joining theatreMAMA as co-host for the party was Dennis Corsi. MAMA was overjoyed to join such a prolific director as part of our Annual Tony Awards Party. Last summer Dennis Corsi directed The Fierce Urgency of Now, a biting comedy about the harsh advertising industry, at the Fresh Fruit Festival where he won Outstanding Production. Following that he directed The Commedia Cinderella, a musical for young audiences told through a queer perspective, for which he won the Off Broadway Alliance award for Best Family Show. The show will be getting another NYC run in the fall and will then go on tour. In the winter he won Best Director for his production of Gruesomely Merry Adventures, a comedic mashup of 19th century British-Lit. The theatre company he launched with Devanand Janki was recognized by SDC this year as one of the top standout moments in 2016 for diversity and inclusion in theatre. Dennishas been asked back to the Fresh Fruit Festival this summer where he will be directing The Phillie Trilogy, a play about growing up gay in the 70s.

After weeks of preparation, the night finally arrived. Guests felt like celebrities as they walked the red carpet set up, standing in front of the custom made theatreMAMA step and repeat. There they were met with one of MAMA’s best who was live streaming the whole red-carpet affair, who interviewed them on their personal favorites of the past season as well well as general theatre questions. To complete the ambiance, a photographer was stationed at the red carpet and took their pictures while they struck their best poses. The pictures and videos are available to be viewed at our Facebook. The location, normally a local sports bar, was dressed up with white tablecloths, white rose center pieces, and MAMA’s menus.

As the red carpet excitement dwindled down at 8pm, our MC took the stage to get the excitement rolling. Miss Scarlet Envy is New York City drag queen with quite the following (13.9K followers on Instagram alone). Dressed head to toe in gold, Scarlet Envy quickly commanded the room and had everyone excited to watch what was sure to be a great Tony Awards show! And over the course of the evening, Scarlet Envy kept everyone on their toes with Tony Awards trivia during the commercial breaks! People won great prizes from the year’s Tony-nominated shows.

During the show, drinks were flowing and food was cooking! Everyone was ordering up thanks to MAMA’s special $5 food and drink menu. Each menu item was Broadway themed, with a focus on the year’s nominees.

Camera! And…action! Our Waitress ladies made their TV debut this past week on Good Morning America, along with the cast of Waitress the Musical!


Sleep in their eyes, but excitement in their heart, our team arrived bright and early for a 5am call time. In only a few hours, they would be part of an extra special surprise on national TV! After checking in with security, they were ushered into the green room and asked to wait patiently. The room smelt of coffee and pastries thanks to the platter in the center of the room. A quiet fell over the room as each MAMA girl slowly began to realize that this was really happening. A mixture of nerves and anticipation coursed through them, but it quickly dissipated into an essence of starstruck when the cast of Waitress trickled into the green room with them. Quick “Hello’s” were exchanged, but it was reassuring to see they too were still waking up. It seems even Broadway stars think 5am is early (#bless).


On the arrival of Sara Bareilles- yes you read that right, the Sara Bareilles- rehearsal was called. Our teams were ushered backstage, where they met Chelsea who makes those adorable mason jar pies you can purchase at the theatre. She gave each of them a tray, along with pies. She explained the general run down or what would be happening, splitting our girls into two teams of three for each stage entrance. Adrenaline was pumping as our girls finally heard the team starting, especially when Sara Bareilles opened her mouth. This was the woman whose music and lyrics brought Waitress to life! From the sides of the stage our girls watched with big eyes and full hearts.



With blocking memorized, our team headed back to the dressing room and got camera ready. Some number of bobby pins later, our teams were picture perfect.


Returning to the studio, our team snuck with the P.A. around corners to finally make it incognito to the greenroom. The coffee seemed to kick in, as the energy and excitement was sky high in the room! Pictures were snapped and the conversation was flowing. Before they knew it, places were called and everyone was whisked off to their spots.


And then magic happened! The Good Morning America anchors were completely beside themselves as the cast sang and danced America a good morning! And, at the end our girls made an extra special entrance to dish out a tasty surprise to the audience- pies! And before they knew it, the commercial break happened and it was all over.
