Vinyl has always kind of scared me…it looked like such a tricky medium, but when I created my NEW Haunted Cutting Files I knew I had to get over it. So bear with this newbie as she tackles the world of Vinyl.

I had a specific project in mind…a distressed wooden plaque with some Halloween sentiments on. I was so surprised to realize that Vinyl is actually so easy to work with.

STEP 1

Gather your materials. I used a Wooden Plaque (on Sale for $5 at Michaels), Black & White Acrylics, Paintbrush, Sanding Paper (or I used a nail file…DH has been hiding his sanding paper away from me! lol) and a candle.

STEP 2

Paint the surface with Black Paint. Let it dry completely then rub the candle wax over the whole surface of the wooden plaque. Be sure to concentrate on the edges and corners.

STEP 3

Paint over the wax and black paint with your white paint. Let it dry completely.

STEP 4

Use your sanding paper/nail file and distress the surface and especially the corners to create a beautiful distressed and weathered effect.

STEP 5

Cut your Vinyl according to your Die-Cutter’s specifications.

STEP 6

Weed your image getting rid of all the unwanted bits of Vinyl you do not want on your final project. I used my craft knife and it worked fabulously.

STEP 7

Cut the Transfer Tape to fit your image. remove the backing and place sticky side down on your image and use a wooden stick to burnish it onto your vinyl image.

STEP 8

Carefully remove the Transfer Tape making sure the complete Vinyl Image transfers. if not just keep rubbing the image with your wooden stick till it comes off. Place it vinyl sticky side down onto your surface. Burnish again with your wooden stick.

STEP 9

Remove the Transfer Tape making sure the vinyl Image stays put. And now step back and admire…yep thats it so easy!

I am still busy setting up my Halloween decor but I think this looks fabulous on my mantel…

Hope you found this project easy and inspiring!

I want to share a quick tutorial using the Silhouette Studio Software and my Artisan Labels. I created this frame element and inner layer using this technique.

Open Silhouette Studio. Open Artisan Label001. Select all the shapes and go to Object – Group.

With the shape still selected open the Scale window. Select Lock Aspect Ratio. Resize them to 3.5 inches.

With Shape still selected Ungroup all the layers (HINT: When Ungroup is greyed out you have Ungrouped all of the layers) Carefully separate the second largest label (i.e. the midsized one). Select the Largest and Smallest Labels and Group them again.

I prefer to group my shapes because if I move them around they stay in position. Here is the Cut preview.

Now they are ready to be sent to your Silhouette.

I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy tutorial.

I also acquired a Silhouette and man oh man do I love it! I will be mostly using the Silhouette from now on for tutorials BUT for those of you that still want to use your Cricut I will still be making SVG files.

a Few months ago I posted these Paper Roses in a Frame. I had numerous requests for tutorials. I actually scraplifted this idea from a pea but somehow I cannot find her original project in my bookmarks folder! Not good I know.

It is very easy and quick to make especially if you use my NEW Cutting Files – Paper Roses. I used the Scalloped Rose Template. For details on how to assemble them I created this youtube video:

I love Mass Production…

I used a 8×8 Shadow Box available for only $8 at Walmart.

I found the center of a 8×8 piece of White Textured Cardstock. I marked it with a pencil.

Starting from the Middle outwards I glue the roses down with my glue gun.

I prefer to use even numbers so I did 4×4 rows.

and here is the final product

Easy and simple and sooo stunning. I want to do a collection of these to hang over my headboard. So I hope you try this super easy project out and create something beautiful for your home.

Just on a side note I am leaving next week to visit my family in South Africa, I will be away for almost 2 months so if you have any queries or questions you are welcome to email me at marikoegelenberg(at)gmail(dot)com.

Happy Holidays!

I will show you how easy they are to assemble and hopefully you will not have glue gun battle scars after this tutorial. lol!

You can get the Rosette Template HERE and all my templates are Hybrid Friendly.

Here are some more examples of Rosettes…

So pretty…they will be just perfect on a tree for Christmas or maybe I should grab some berry branches from the garden and make a custom arrangement in the hallway? Uhm yes I do need to use these pretties!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
