Fur, Always In!

Last months fashion week in Milan we saw fur gracing several runway shows. Always in fashion, and one of the oldest forms of clothing, happens to be fur. Sorry to all of you PETA people out there but fur is amazing, enough said. You cannot deny there is nothing more fabulous than fur!

Andrej Pejic: Boy or Girl? BOY.

Andrej Pejic has blow up the modeling industry with his girlish looks. That's right, HIS. Despite looking like a sexy female Andrej's got something us ladies do not have, below the belt. Be careful boys, looks can be deceiving, and he's 100% male.

Born to a Croatian father and a Serbian mother, Andrej was born in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the 90s his family moved from the country to Melbourne due the war.

From the start of his career he was always referred to as "that blonde girl" just as he was while at the Paris men's shows in June 2010. The Serbian Australia model has definitely made his mark and has emerged as the go to model for androgyny. He is actually used more representing a female; than he is a male, which is funny. You might find him in a topless shoot very much looking female, you will of course mistake him for one too. Thinking is that girl topless? Till you look closer and realize (if you're in the know) that she is in fact a he.

While walking down the streets in Manhattan he heard a man call out to him, in a thick Brooklyn accent, "Hey, hey, you! Are you a model?" As he rolled down his window of his car the man continued, “You’re gorgeous. Shoot! Where are you, you know, illustrated in?” Andrej casually replied, "Oh, different places".

The man had no idea he was actually hitting on a boy. Probably better kept on the download anyway. Enjoy the video below and more images behind the jump.

Go Big Or Go Home

Big hair is in so bust out those hot rollers and get to it. The bigger the better, it's all about volume right now. Perhaps the image above takes you back to the 80s but come on, the best things were born in the 80s, yours truly! :)

The look is sexy; there is no denying that. It may look intimidating to do, but guess what? It's simple! This look is super easy to achieve, not much to it at all. There are a two ways to get this look, one is using said hot rollers mentioned above. Dry hair, throw those in, wait 10 mins and done. However, that will give you bigger waves that are round and not exactly wavy. I prefer to do it this way. I braid my hair in several braids all over my hair, after it's been towel-dried and then sleep on it. When you wake the braids will be dry, and once taken out you will have a head full of full waves. Flip your head a few times and add some hair spray; you'll be good to go.

Makeup Tips To Hide The Bloat This Holiday

Contouring is your best friend! This makeup trick might seem difficult, but it's actually beyond easy to master. Whoever said it was tricky and time-consuming, didn't have a clue what they were talking about. The point with contouring is to enhance your features. To pull out the chisel in the face, so to speak. Or, on the other hand, to hide flaws. Like the double chin that you picked up over Thanksgiving. Damn those mash potatoes!

The mastering of this makeup trick (contouring) can create an optical illusion of a thinner visage. These are the tricks used for photo shoots and on film. Using these tricks can enhance your cheekbones and give you the all-over effect of a slimmer face. If you can hide the bloat this winter season, why wouldn't you? This is a quick fix to that requires minimal effort. However, you still should however hit the gym, this only works on bloat, this isn't going to shed 20 pounds. You'll need the treadmill to make that happen.

So for this, grab that blush brush, contouring brush, and get to work.

Tricks behind the jump.
Get those killer cheekbones in a flash. This happens to be my favor contouring trick because it really pulls my cheek bones out. I do this when I know people will be snapping photos. For example, Holiday parties or a night out with friends. Usually a camera can blow you out, but if you do this trick you'll still have those high cheekbones when the photos surface on Facebook. With makeup, darkness will recede while lightness will come forward. With that said, it's very simple. When you darken those areas it will pull everything back to give you a slimmer appearance. So, to give yourself the cheekbones that could cut glass, make a fish face and take the contour power in the hallow areas of the cheek. Finish off with some highlighter to the tops of your cheeks. Contouring brush shown below is from Sonia Kashuk (my favorite, I use it and it's inexpensive too) $17 available at Target.

Rid yourself of that double chin that snuck up on you. Take a contouring powder and start behind the ears, sweep down and towards the jawline. Blend down the neck to avoid the obvious line. I promise you won't look like you have a beard like in the image below. Haha. Brush is by Bare Essentials Buff & Go Brush, $22, available at Bare Escentuals.

Rock the all-over effect. Slimming the entire face is super easy by contouring the temples-- it gives you a nice shaped face and enhances your overall features, hence the name. I tend you also brush the sides of my nose and across my foreheads. Brush is the I.T Angled Natural Blush Brush, $32, available at Sephora,

For All You Boys Out There Who Question: How To Properly Layer Clothing

This is for the boys! :)

There are many ways to layer without looking like a bulky mess. However, a lot of this has to do with having your own sense of style, the key that is needed to nail this trend. Layering is best for fall/winter when the temperature fluctuates throughout the day, or you're out running errands. There are many ways that you can incorporate layering into your everyday wardrobe.

These are the rules to live by when layering. Read on ...

#1. Thinner clothing first! You'd think this would be common sense but believe me, some people are clueless. Keep in mind the closer to your skin the garment is, the thinner it should be. With that said, start with items that are made of thinner fabrics, like cotton t-shirts, thin turtlenecks, dress shirts, and pair them with a heavier piece like a wool sweater, cardigan, blazer, or leather jacket.

#2. Pick your piece! By this I mean to define your statement layer. Essentially this is any item that can stand alone. For example, wearing a wife beater under a dress shirt doesn't constitute cool layering.

#3. Don't try too hard, keep it cool. Layering is best done in the most nonchalant way. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable or stressed out about what you're wearing. The laying look is a more casual look, not appropriate in a formal environment. Nevertheless, a layering combo can include classy pieces, such as a tailored blazer paired with a classic dress shirt.

#4. Love what you're wearing. As mentioned above, it is important to be comfortable. It is a general rule to never wear something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Having said that, if you cannot freely move, scratch your head, then chances are your layering is too thick and you probably look like a marshmallow. If you are sweating profusely that is another clue it's a no go. That I am sure is not in fashion and definitely, far from trendy.

#5. Add color! Don't be a walking one colored boring zombie, spice it up with laying different textures and colors. Black, brown, navy, and gray are great fall/winter colors, but don't forget the merlot I just blogged about yesterday! Also, there are greens and lush purples as well. Worn properly these colors will brighten your fall/winter wardrobe and maybe also your mood!

#6. A jacket is not necessary. Remember wearing just a jacket over a shirt doesn't mean you are participating in the layering trend. You're just wearing a jacket over a shirt.

Bring On The Merlot, Clothing That Is ...

There is nothing better than a glass of red wine by the fire on a cold winter night. It's something that never goes out of style. This season the color is that lovely share of red wine, think merlot. Or I suppose you can think of a Malbec, Chianti, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. Wow, I'm kind of thirsty now!

Like everything in fashion, history does repeat itself. The lush red has returned and it is heating up the cold winter months. The rich bold color that makes you think of romance, with a twist, lets say with a little vampire twist, are all in fashion. We're seeing them in many shapes like cute little shift dresses to sexy wedge heels, this color is hot, and it is all over! They even make merlot colored skinny jeans in velvet, corduroy, and regular jean. For the girl who isn't too into dresses. The metlot trend is for everyone and anyone, even the boys. What could be more cute that a guy in a merlot cardigan? Maybe a puppy? I'm not sure ... kind of digging the dude in the merlot cardi below. ;) Enough of the chit chat, get out there and grab your bit of merlot and rock this trend!

Printed Scarves Can Spice Up Winter

Keep some color this winter by adding a colorful printed scarf to a simple look. In the image above the model wears black tights, a black mini skirt, some simple bangles, and a comfy beige sweater. The special touch comes in with the printed scarf that not only brightens up the overall look, but also adds a touch of originality. Wearing the scarf on the head is a bit unexpected, which adds some edge. This fall winter is about color, more than it has ever been during this season. Keep your look trendy by adding that pop of color into your normally colorless winter wardrobe. And if wrapping your head in a printed scarf is too much for your, "please don't look at me" style, opt for a solid. Try the scarf in a deep yet bold purple. You won't be following the trend of printed scarves, but at least you'll be adding some color to winter. :)

The Cool New Way To Layer This Winter

Layering is always a big trend we usually see during the winter months. However, there is a rule to this trend that sometimes goes unnoticed. The end results, a lot of people walking around looking swallowed up by their clothes. There is a fine line between going for the oversized-chic look and well, looking like a homeless person. Frankly, I don't know when looking like a smelly bum was in fashion.

If you love your oversized sweaters then try this new way to layer. Take two oversized sweaters, yes two! The bottoms of the sweaters should be of different lengths, like in the image above. Also, to avoid looking like your sweater is trying to eat you, your best bet is to pair them with skinny jeans, slim cut trousers, or leggings. This is a nice contrast and will still let everyone know you've got a body under that sweater!

Terry Richardson Locks Lips With Himself Or ... Chloë Sevigny? Yup!

Be prepared for an interesting video if you choose to press play. You'll find yourself viewing a somewhat disturbing transformation of Chloë Sevigny. If you continue watching you'll see an interesting make out sesh, however Chloë is dressed as Terry Richardson. And, if you're anything like me, you're already watching the video. You can't help but watch the lip lock, maybe with a slight tilt in your head too. Confused, you ask yourself why … are … they … doing … oh wow! It's almost like a train wreck, you know, that accident on the side of the road you don't want to look at but you find yourself rubber-necking hardcore. After, you find yourself quickly pressing on the breaks to avoid rear-ending the car in front of you. Yea, you know what I mean.

Everyone tends to adore Chloë Sevigny; she just exudes that cool, fashionable female with just enough masculinity to be badass. I have to admit, that I dig. However, this video takes her masculine to a whole knew level. I’m not sure how I am supposed to feel about her little frisk of tonsil hockey with ex porn man Terry Richardson. I have to say, it makes me feel a little weird. Anyhow, check out the next cover of Candy because that is where the photo is going to find itself. So have fun, watch the video … or not, whatever.

The Best Fall Boot Trends Under $300!

Fall has arrived and that means BOOT SEASON! I love this time of year because fashion is at its best. The item every woman needs to complete her fall winter wardrobe is a pair (or two or three) of the staple "must have" fall boot(s). The above image showcases my "Top Picks" for boot season. Every single boot above can be worked into your fall winter wardrobe to spice it up.

Jeffrey Campbell (one of my favorite shoe designers for style and price).

This is the Jeffrey Campbell Watchman bootie in black-snake-pewter. This is a new style from Campbell and I am loving it. This is a shoe that is going to transform a simple jeans and T-shirt look to something sexy, edgy and totally in style. Shoes are a big deal and anyone who disagrees with me on the fact that a shoe can completely change your outfit, doesn't have the slightest clue about fashion. I always say shoes are everything, they make the look. Cost $154.95.

Another Campbell winner, the Lashes boot. I suppose that is a good name for this shoe, it is a bit girly with the print. I am not big on animal prints but this boot is growing on me. I love the heel because it's stacked and wooden. The detail with the black leather at the toe and heel adds something different and special, something unexpected, which we've come to expect from Campbell. Cost $189.95.

Now here is the shoe that will get some looks when you walk through the door. A bit out there and kind of weird, is this shoe from Irregular Choice called the Annabells Trolley. This shoe might even get some criticism from the buttoned-uped girls who play tennis, but lets face it, these shoes take a risk taker! They are pretty hot! Just imagine wearing them with black leggings and an oversized sweater. Yes, sexy! Cost $154.95.

One of my all time favorite shoes ever is the Zoe by Sam Edelman. I loved this shoe so much I bought the latest, the Zoyla. This one above is the updated Zoe with a much cooler design. I absolutely love the two-tone with the brown suede and the black leather. This shoe is statement shoe like the rest but this one definitely is the edgy one in the fam. Cost $194.95.

By the brand Miista, this stomper is called Andee. Definitely a new take on the lace up bootie with some added buckles. For sure a statement shoe that needs to be added to the closet, mine and yours! It offers height and edge with it's two-tone brown and interesting double buckle at the ankle. Cost $279.95.

Another favorite of mine by the awesome Jeffrey Campbell is this lace-up, over the knee, military style boot. This boot will add edgy to any look and is super versatile. Despite it's edgy rock-n-roll looks it can be worn with a variety of outfits. Pair these boots with jeans and an oversized sweater for a causal and edgy look. Or even go with leggings or tights and a long tunic sweater for an sexy winter look. Cost $289.95.

Halloween Nail Art, Dexter Style

With Halloween around the corner it's time to rock the appropriate nails. My favorite happens to be this one, it reminds me of one of my favorite shows, Dexter. Talk about taking red nails to a whole new level! These nails are statement nails so be ready to get some attention. Good news is this kind of nail art is actually quite easy to do. Simply follow the directions behind the jump.

Things you'll need:

+ White nail polish
+ Dark red nail polish
+ Top coat
+ A straw
+ A friend :)

1. Paint your nails with the white polish, giving them two coats.

2. Tape off the tips of your fingers leaving your nails free of tape. See example below:

Now take the straw and dip just the tip of the straw into the red nail polish. Have a friend blow from the opposite end of the straw, about an inch away from one of the nail. Do this till you have the desired amount of red over the white. You can do more or less it just depends on what you're going for. Each nail will look different and that is how it is suppose to be. Don't try to make them the same, it won't happen.

After you've finished with the red polish remove the tape and apply a top coat to seal and protect. Now you're ready for Halloween! :)

This video is Alber Elbaz designs for Lanvin Fall/Winter 2011/2012. The campaign features Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann & Alber Elbaz dancing, seriously! Which happens to be my favorite part of the video. Oh, Steven... pretty much the most amazing video ever.

Nail Polish Trends For Spring/Summer 2012

Dreaming of spring already? Well dream in color, nail color that is, because spring is full of it! After watching the spring shows there was no doubt nails were making their appearance. Here are the top color picks for next season.

Orange

A bright orange or peachy-pink color on the nails will have you thinking of sandy beaches. Imagine a white bikini, fruity cocktail and bright fingernails as you lounge in the tropical sun. Picks, soft peach, mandarin and all shades of coral too. Polish shown is On the Same Paige by OPI.

Blue

Blue makes me think of pop art and just art in general. The color itself is refreshing and fun, but takes a bold girl to rock it. Good thing there is various shades of blue so finding the right color for your personal style won't be too hard. Picks, gemstone cobalt, denim shades and turquoise. Polish shown is Coat Azure by Essie.

Pink

This is the time to forget pink relating to be "super girly" pink is the color for spring/summer and you'll want to have this on your digits. Be daring and go for the pink! Paint the fingernails and toes in a lovely shade of bold pink for a splash of fun color. Picks, bold pinks, strawberry and raspberry shades. Polish shown is Pink Flamenco by OPI.

Yellow

I don't know about you but to me, nothing screams spring/summer than the color yellow. This color looks stunning with white. Wear this fun shade with a cotton lace dress or a white ruffle bikini for a cute and girly take. Picks, sunshine yellow, melon and lemon shades. Polish shown is Cheeky chops by Butter London.

Purple

For the girls who love their black nails, this is your alternative. Purple adds drama to the nails without being so plain jane. All right, not that black is plain, it takes a bold girl to rock black but lets switch it up a bit. The darker the hues will shine when in the sun, and in the sun the purple will really pop. Picks, metallic purple, matte eggplant and soft lilac. Polish shown is La Lacque in Black Purple by YSL.

Red

Red works with most skin tones, well that is after you find out if you are the red blue type or the red orange type. After that it is smooth sailing in the red department. Reds tend to be a favorite among fashionistas, and rightfully so ... red looks killer! Picks, basically all shades of red will suffice; go for the glossy shades for a nice shiny finish. Polish shown is Le Vernish in Rouge St Honore by Lancome.

Green

This is a color that you might think is a bit out there. Well, good news is in the fashion world the color green is no longer connected to bacterial fungi. This shade that represents the color of envy is best worn on short nails. Longer nails will be a little too witch-like. Keep in mind a little of this color goes a long way. Not sure about this color yet? Try it out on your toes first! Picks, deep leafy greens and light green like green grapes. Polish shown is Pretty Edgy by Essie.

Spring 2012 Makeup Trends To Rock, Now!

Eins.
All you need is mascara! Yes, this look requires you to ditch everything else, the eyeliner, the eye shadow, etc. All you will need is an eyelash curler and your favorite mascara. This look is inspired by the 60s Twiggy style of bare-eyed mascara and nothing else. This trend is about making the lashes stand out; it's all about the lashes. The key is to keep them looking natural and full.

Zwei.
Define those cheekbones! The best winter makeup actually happens to be from these spring makeup trends. After all more makeup during the cold months isn't exactly the look to go for. I tend to tone it down during winter, after all what's really the point if you're going to get rained on? Go for minimalist beauty looks, like enhancing the cheekbones. Opt for a peachy blush color and sweep across the cheekbones. Then use a little bronzer along the jawline and right below the blush color. This will not only give you some color during winter but it will also create a slimming effect and make your face look more angular. Lastly, add some highlighter powder on the tops of the cheeks, this creates a halo effect and brightens up your overall face.

Drei.

The lovely matte complexion. The matte look creates a timeless look, which is what you want to go for, classic! This trend comes from the 80s and 90s when a shinny face with gloss was never seen. Stick to muted colors, that is the key with the matte look. Always remember to apply primer; you will want your skin to be as close to perfect as it can get before applying foundation. For the foundation go for the powder-based kind. Do not apply highlighters or illuminators to the t-zone; remember we're avoiding shine! Don't even add anything to your forehead, go nude in that area. Apply only where needed in the center of the face and then blend outward.

Vier.
Remove the red, we're going buck! The battle between red lips and nude lips have been going on for a while, a war that will never end. I can think of another one, but lets not go there. ;) The bight red lips have had their go and it's time to tone it down. Go for a sexy pout with a warm nude shade. Sure the pop of color in the grim, cold winter is nice but so is the snow queen with her nude lips! This winter is all about eyes anyway so let them be the star and keep the lips nude. First us a concealer on the lips, this will help whatever nude color lipstick you put on to stay put. Go for a shade that suits your skin tone. The best color to go for is something close to the natural color of your lips, but then slightly lighter. For example, if you're super tan don't go for a really pale pink that is almost white or you'll look really odd. Work with the natural tones of your face to pick the right color. If this is too much you can go wrong with a nude gloss. They tend to only have a hint of color and work for most anyone.

Fünf.
Bold brows! This is all about the brows. They are not sleek or thin, they are full and thick and they will stay this way for the next few seasons. So if you plucked yours to death, or worse, lost your mind and shaved them off, then you're in trouble and not to mention stupid. :/ Anyway, make sure you check out the direction of hair growth on your eyebrows. When filling the brow you want to follow the original path of your natural eyebrow. The eyebrow pencil should always be a shade or two lighter than your hair color. Keep it sophisticated but bold because the brows are the map of the face, they need to make their statement.

Sechs.

Rock the metallics. For those of you out there who love doing their makeup and can't even fathom the though of not wearing any eye shadow, this is for you. Use loose sparkle powder for fall, as opposed to creamy-based gels. They will stick and give you too much shine. Apply under the eyes as well as on the inner and outer corners. If this is too much you can go for metallic nail polish, which is a less "in your face" way of approaching this trend. Then stick with a natural, flawless face with tips from the images shown earlier. You can never go wrong with a smokey eye, that never goes out. However, you can up date the smokey eye look by going for metallic eye shadow shades of grey and charcoal.

Olivier Rousteing Gives The Balmain Girl Some Sophistication

Oh, Balmain! You never fail me! I am in love with the outfit above. Seriously, how can you not want to just live in that look? I was very intrigued to see the collection of Balmain this season, with Olivier Rousteing taking the reins. The young designer, who has worked under Christophe Decarnin for about two years, has taken the lead role since his former boss’ departure back in February. This was Rousteing’s first time showcasing the clothes to the entire world, the entire fashion world.

Being only 25-years-old, he showed us he definitely knows the aesthetic hes been trained to take on. He has clearly nailed the “babes-in-beads” look that stylist Emmanuelle Alt made famous through Decarnin’s designs. I have to say this collection seems to have taken a few steps up, and by that I mean and few steps up in sophistication. Now, don’t take this the wrong way. I myself am a Balamin lover, but this collection seems to cut out all of the, how shall I put it … well, it cut out all of the Lower East Side rags. The collection has taken a sophisticated step up and I am loving it. The garments look expensive, so now the look will match the price tag. Where as before you might question paying over a grand for a pair of ripped up jeans.

Isabel Marant's Girl Travels The World For Spring Summer 2012

Isabel Marant's collection shown at Paris Fashion Week yesterday, was nothing short of awesome. This collection was designed with the free-spirited, world-traveling gal in mind. Every item the lady traveler will need this spring summer can be found in this collection. From the comfy outfit to wear on the flight, to the shorts and blouse for lunch with new friends, to the cozy pull over to throw on when the night gets cool. This designer has nailed every single thing needed. Oh, and don't forget the sexy fitted dress to wear on a night out dancing. Easy to wear pieces that mix well together is always a plus.

There has always been a bit of raw edge about Marant’s collections. This show kicked off in the USA, as it was spelled out in block letters on the back of her football jerseys, the slouchy kind of course. Hoodies, track pants and dresses that were knit together from shredded old sweatshirts also came down the runway. But since Marant’s girls are world traveler, there was also Rajasthani embroideries on vests and dresses that used Indian styled tie-dye techniques. Jeans were also a part of this collection; they donned scribble prints, stamped with python patterns, bleach and also more tie-dye. The python patterns were definitely a revisit to a past big hit a few years back. Overall this collection was brilliant and definitely wearable for any down to earth girl.

Dior Sends A Snore Down The Runway for SS 2012

In Paris today, Dior showcased their spring/summer 2012 collection. While I don't hate the collection, it just did nothing for me. If it wasn't announced that it was in fact Dior's collection, then I would have never known. Nothing really registered Dior to me. I suppose with the departure of Galliano I kind of expected a bit more for this showcase. Maybe I should have expected a little "hiccup" because that is what I feel I got. I found the show, overall to be rather boring, nothing too special. Don't get me wrong it was a lovely collection but it didn't scream Dior. It just did not deliver what I have come to expect from the Dior shows. As we know, this is a transition period for the House of Dior and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. Hopefully they can take a moment to reflect on where they have been in the past and get back to their identify that they have established over the last 6 decades.

How To Dress For A Football Game And Still Be Stylish

With football season upon us, it is time to start thinking about what you'll be wearing when the boy reminds you of his season tickets. Season tickets to every college game and NFL game for the next couple months. Well, that is if he likes you enough to invite you to any games. If he does, don't be a princess. Show him you can hang with the boys and drink a beer in a plastic up. If he offers you a bit of his hotdog (no pun in tended) take one! Whether you love sports or not, after this post you'll be the hottest girl in the box seats and definitely consider "cool" by his friends.

For the boyish girl:
Keep it simple and go for black skinny jeans with blank ankle boots. When one of the guys jumps up when his team scores a touch down and spills beer on your pants, you won't freak. Usually it's a bit chilly at football games so make sure you layer. Go for a white shirt and a gray scoop neck sweater shirt. This will give you a sporty look while still keeping you trendy. Keep your head warm with a beanie to match your pants.

For the rebel girl:

This look takes a bold cardigan and lets it be the statement piece. After all, every fashionable girl needs to make her statement! Keep warm in a bold colored knit cardigan with geometric accents, which by the way, is super trendy right now. Wear a black collared button down dress in black with a black sweater over. The layering will keep you warm at a night game and your cardigan will also be a nice and cozy blanket. Add a bit of subtle sparkle to your legs by wearing a pair of black leggings with just a touch of shimmer. Finish the look off with a pair of military boots and thick legwarmers. And don't forget the hat! On cold nights those are definitely a must!

For the girly girl:
If you can't leave your heels at home and feel the need to assert your femininity amongst the meat heads, make sure you at least keep it casual chic.

Go for a sexy over-the-knee pair of heeled boots. These will be super comfy and also keep your legs warm at the game. The other key piece here is the over-sized-slouchy-tribal-print-knit-cardigan. This will keep you cozy through the entire game as it, like the other image, works as a blanket too. I love wearing these types of cardigan's to football games because you can really bundle up in them. They also look a lot cooler than a boring jacket.
