Conociendo las raices del Zulia una de las cuidades mas importantes y ricas de Venezuela en cuanto a cultura, recursos y calor! no en vano la llaman "La ciudad del Sol Amada".

Es bueno de vez en cuando echar un ojo a estos patrimonios culturales que nos explican muy silenciosamente el porque somos lo que somos e incluso algo tan personal como el diseño grafico...Me preguntaba en estos dias ¿porque los diseñadores latinos son tan aguerridos y atrevidos cuando de color se trata? mientras que cuando conocemos diseñadores de otras latitudes vemos como su concepción de los colores tiene un enfoque totalmente diferente.

Bueno si miramos a la historia y signos culturales de las regiones mas tropicales notaremos como hemos nacido rodeados de color, expuestos a todos sus matices; sin duda estas raíces influyen y tienen que ver en como percibimos el mundo y en como diseñamos, por eso me provocó por pura diversión hacer este post para recordarme de donde soy y vengo pero también que a donde vaya estos rastros coloridos de mi tierra van conmigo.

This design were made for "8 Encuentro de Jovenes con el Arzobispo" which is a meeting between the church and the youth, it takes place once a year in Maracaibo (Venezuela) and these are some of the stuff I did for that purpose trying to preserve the colors and style wanted for my client.

El diseño corresponde a "8 Encuentro de Jovenes con el Arzobispo" el cual es un encuentro entre la juventud y la iglesia, se celebra una vez al año en Maracaino (Venezuela) y estos son algunos de los diseños que realicé para esa ocasión tratando de preservar los colores y el estilo que el cliente esperaba.

I like my new walls collection MAD, is not that I was mad but somehow I started drawing nonsense and I came out with this concept...honestly I made a huge mistake with this while working I didnt save for the first time in my life I forgot to SAVE! This template includes bussiness cards, Menu design and logo, is a proyect that I really loved because it allowed me to use color with freedom. VIVA means ALIVE so I used a very basic origami inspired style for the VIVA words and include all my favorite colors in it, It was the first time I could use so many of fav color in just one proyect. Is a nice cafe isnt it?

1.- Ok, First of all take a picture of your screen computer with the Imp Pant buttom (print screen on your keyboard above the Insert buttom). Making sure your browser is set on 100% not bigger or smaller.
1.- Ok, Primero toma una foto de tu pantalla con al tecla IMP PANT (Imprimir pantalla, esta sobre la tecla de Insertar) Asegurandote de que tu browser esta visualizado al 100% exactamente.

2.- Go to photoshop and open a new document, it automatically sets the size of the image you're gonna paste.
2.- Ve a photoshop y abre un nuevo documento, automaticamente photoshop te abre el doucmento nuevo con la medida pre establecida de la imagen que pegaras.

3- With your image already paste set the photoshop rules ( Ctrl + R) they'll guide you trough the process.Start making a gride fallowing your pasted image as the example below.
3.- Con tu imagen ya colocada usa las reglas de photoshop (Ctrl+R) las cuales te ayudaran el proceso. Comienza creando una grilla siguiendo el trazado de tu imagen como se muestra a continuacion.

4. Now crop the image around the gride you just made so you work only with the necessary size. After you crop and remove your previous guide image it looks like this:
4.- Ahora corta la imagen alrededor de la grilla que acabas de hacer con la herramienta CROP para trabajar únicamente con el banner. Después de haber cortado la imagen previa lucirá así:

at this point you can start making your own design with the right size for the facebook banner, the final result is up tou you and what you want to do.
A este punto puedes empezar a crear tu propio diseño con la medida correcta, el resultado final depende de ti y lo que busques hacer.

One las tip:
The small square at the left bottom of the screen leave it unused cause it goes your profile picture. You can work that space adding some shadows, marquees, light effects or something you want to make it look like it comes out of your profile picture. That's it verysimple isnt it?
Ultimo tip:
El recuadro pequeño en la parte inferior izquierda de la pantalla dejalo sin usar ya que corresponde a tu imagen de perfil y es inutil colocar diseño alli. Lo que puedes hacer es crear algunos efectos alrededor del recuadro como sombras, marcos, luces, etc para que luzca como que ese efecto proviene de tu imagen de perfil.Eso es todo, bien simple no?

As you can see, this method is usefull when you need to find out the correct size of any web banner or page.
Como verás éste metodo te funciona para averiguar la medida exacta de cualquier banner o imagen e incluso pagina web de la que requieras la medida.

What is a Logo? How it should be?

A logo is a graphic mark of identity, it represents one's business big or small. We have a face and people can recognize us by our face...they know how you are and they get their first impressions about yourself just by looking at you... guess what; A logo is exactly the same! is the face of your business in front of others.

In a world full of brands, business, companies, freelance etc... if you want your services to stand up You need to put a Face on it! and that face should be good enough to draw attetion.

Now that we know what is a logo let's talk a lil bit about HOW it should be. Well since I was studying graphic design my teachers always told me that a logo had certain quealities that must remain untouched such as:

Scalability: it should be a image simple enough to resist change of sizes since 2 x 2 cm to bigger sizes and still be easy to read and understand, when a logo has to much flourishes it is hard tomodify it sizes cause it loses detail quality.
Simplicity: Bruno munari used to say: "it is very easy to complicate, the hard thing is to simplfy" and that's why designers are needed "To simplify" people's issues about image and concepts and make mark that can be memorable or suitable for someone to work with in their business.
Black and white: it should be possible to be read in black and white version as much as in full color.
Neutral: This is a very important feature, because of this a logo can be timeless... if a logo is based on a specific event, moment or fashion and it represents very well that moment as soon as the moment passes you by also the logo will. That's why it should be adaptable to the society you're in but without taking any parts or sides, so it can be timeless inside that society not depending on the fashion moment or situation.

Simple & neutral & Adaptable

As it is for me those are my basic tips about what a logo should be, I write this because sometimes clients want a "logo" but when you show them the samples they say "this is not what I expected" and if you talk to then a lil bit more you realize that they were expecting a big image full of 3D effects... gradients and splashes... that is when you see they are confusing a LOGO with a BANNER and I hope clients who read this now can get a different idea about what it is and what to expect from their designers when a logo is requested.

Simple &Timeless &Neutral& Scalable

Im relatively new into this since I've been practicing design as graduated only for two years but in this time I've learned a lot of things that I never found on my university, because when you study a profession you can only master it on the field once you start facing it and struggling with the real life design issues, as for now I just try to the apply to the K.I.S.S principle which is the same that Bruno Munari said but with different words.

Societas Lex - Logo

Logo Design for Societas Lex, a new lawyer office in Maracaibo (Venezuela) Based on the idea of NOT using the typical Judge Icons and the hammer or the blind justice stuff. In this case was needed a diferent image, a lil bit more modern and daring but at the same time very sober and straight. So we came out with this concept inspired by its name (society Law) trying to express not only the image lawyers should have but also the idea that our society is formed by people of different types, genres, colors, ideas, sizes, origins, and so on... so the logo expresses that difference by showing people different in size or position but equal to law.The typo for this had to be alil bit more sober than the image because after all its lawyers we're talking about so the classic touch is given by the classic serif font.
