I don’t know how many times I have touched on dreams and how many of us never fully attain any of them. Many people struggle today, because they feel that they are not worthy of pursuing a dream. Designers are a dime a dozen, but just because they are, doesn’t mean you cannot go through in pursuing your dream to be a designer. God ultimately uses our passions and desires to better His kingdom. (designers are just an example, this applies to everyone. Check out this video by David Tate

One thing I think a lot of designers struggle with is their bodies. Why you say? Well it’s simple: we sit at a computer desk for hours typing, coding, and designing our hearts out, but the only thing being worked out is our mind, fingers, wrists, and those worn out keys on your computer.

How could you stay active while having a job that demands hours in a chair and at a desk?

Push-ups

I posted on my blog a couple of months ago something called the “Hundred Push-up challenge,” it’s a small challenge that eventually allows you to completely do one hundred push-ups in one sitting? Impossible for you…not. There is plenty of room by your desk, in the break room, at your house, or even outside the building. All it takes is about 5-10 minutes of your day. Follow instructions on the website, even go as far as bringing some of your closest friends involved for accountability purposes. I have been doing this for a while now and increased my strength and stamina in many areas of my life, where I need it. I went from being able to do 19 in one sitting, to 35 in just two weeks. Think you can do it? Try it out. It’s free and does not require a ton of time to complete.

Recreational Sports

Most cities, towns, and churches have some kind of recreational team of some sort. The church I attend has a softball and soccer team. Where I live, we have a basketball court and pool available for those who live in the community. Whether you have played on a team or not, go ahead and try it out. It may be hard learning the rules and getting used to it, but in the long run it will be beneficial to your health. Of course, make sure your in good enough health before you start any of these. You may have to take it a bit easier than some others. Most are free and cheap, so go ahead and try and sign up for your church, or local league recreational sport.

Walking and Running

Everyone knows that running is a good way to stay healthy along with a good walk every once in a while. It helps get rid of stress and burn some calories off that body of yours, whether you way 150lbs or 300lbs. If you have ever watched the biggest loser, most of the contestants lost a ton of wieght whenever a challenge had to do with walking, hiking, running, or all three. Usually if your near a major city of some sort, there are often 5k runs and walks, which are just a tad over three miles in leangth. I encourage you to sign up for one of those and see how it can help you. It doesn’t cost much and running at your local park, or just along the side walks of the street are free!

I hope this could encourage you to get up and get active a bit. Always remember you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. (Phil 4:13)

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to ??make it big?? in life while others just get by? Sure, maybe they just caught a lucky break. While this could be a great explanation chances are it??s not accurate. Most successful people had to learn to live proactively instead of reactively. Think about it for a minute, do you think Donald Trump sat back and said ??One day I??ll catch my break?? or did Michael Jordan sit around and just become ??Air Jordan???

I would submit to you that greatness has to be formed. I once heard a wise man say ??greatness comes from definition.?? My question to you is if some of the world??s most successful people had to be proactive in going for their dreams why would it be any different for you and me? Over the past few years I had been wondering when I was going to ??catch my break?? and why it hadn??t happened yet; and then it hit me, I wasn??t being proactive. I had been waiting on life to just ??happen?? this whole time, meanwhile opportunities were passing me by left and right. It was all I could do to keep up with life, meaning I was reacting to everything that was going on. My spiritual father has told me many times that opportunities are never postponed…instead they are lost forever. It wasn??t until I got a real revelation of the importance of being proactive that I started to live proactively and take advantage of the opportunities that life presented.

Did you realize that as Christians we??re called to set the atmosphere and not be ruled by it? So what are you saying Jameson? I??m glad you asked! I??m saying that by living proactively I can cut out a lot of stress that is associated with deadlines or tight spots. Think about it, how many of us have stayed up till 4 am working on a project that just has to get done? I know I have, it??s what I??m currently doing. So instead of being stressed out with a getting a project to the printer I could be in bed getting much needed rest just by having been proactive on this project. Did I know it was coming? Yes. I must say initially I thought I had one more week, but that??s no excuse.

The point I want to make to you is that by living proactively you don??t have to let your circumstances rule you! Instead live proactively! Take life head on and go after your dreams. Think about where you want to be in one to five years from now. Got it? Okay, now think of what??s keeping you from your dreams. Solution: MAKE A MOVE! The details will come when you start; you don??t get the whole plan before you begin. You must first begin! As I conclude I would like you to remember three keys to living proactively:

Don??t focus on the disadvantages,

Quit making excuses

Take the initiative!

Yesterday I went to the movies with my wife and watch the new film from the makers of Facing the Giants; “Fireproof.” Kirk Cameron plays Caleb Holt a firefighter struggling with himself and his marriage. The movie takes place in the small town of Albany Georgia. This movie deals with the true struggles of marriage and how God intended it to be.

Throughout the movie Caleb Holt struggles with pride, respect, and a major marriage deal breaker; pornography. Caleb also deals with the struggles of not having Christ in your life and consistent rejection. This movie is great for newlyweds, couples who have been married for years, and people thinking about getting married. The cast is amazing and the acting blows you away. This is truly an awesome movie to go see. I encourage you to see this movie and I won’t spoil you with anything more.

Being a writer, I’ve thought a lot about words. Where they come from, how to use them, stuff like that. Words are very important, did you know that? (You’re probably saying, “Duh, Anne, no kidding!!”) Think about it. God said there’s power of life and death in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Guess what the tongue speaks? Words! Wow! And you know what else? God’s right. (Another no-duh, eh?)

There’s two ways you can say almost anything. For instance, you can say, “You don’t make sense!” Yeah, so? That isn’t the best way to say something. It puts the person on the defensive. You’re questioning their intelligence! Instead, a better way to put it is, “I don’t get it.” That way, then they have the chance to explain themselves more fully without feeling bad!

Take Paul for instance. In Romans 15:14 he says,

Romans 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

What do you notice about that? “I know you’re doing this, so I don’t have to mention it.” That way, if they aren’t, they feel guilty! Now, he does speak pointedly when the occasion is called for, but that is an encouraging way to say something that said otherwise could have brought up defensiveness.

Another thing is, when you’re encouraging somebody, instead of saying “You need to be doing this!”, a better way would be, “We need to be doing this”. That way the focus is off the other person, because if they’re somebody like me, they might take it all personally (like you are judging them, whether or not they are doing whatever it was) and may get upset!

Think carefully how you say things!
