freestyler and word-player, TACHE MRAPPER. The Soshanguve based rapper

has been actively in the game for years now and he had solidly made a

mark. He works at 1st Note Produkchinz with Tiny Boi and Figo Mani,

Producer and TheNASHmag Video Editor Enos Chinos. He is signed with

Under1Umbrella Media. His long anticipated Mixtape “FED UP” is finally

coming to light this May.

The Pre-Launch is happening at Ga-Rankuwa’s Deejay’s Lounge in Zone 3

617 Squadron, DJ Funkytunes, Makomonisi, DJ Pops, Pro-Chiq and TACHE

The Main Launch is set to take place on the 25th of May in Soshanguve

at Labyayeng Pub, extension 4, from 1 pm. The line-up includes: Broz

Stunna, Swagga SaintZ, Omphile Ramsey, Rhymmee, CornerJoint Fam,

D.S.M, Summary Family Tree, Menza, Verse One, TC, Nectar, Heavyweight

and Slim, Native Mams,617 Squadron,Makomonisi and Faced Crew.

Besides being an MC, TACHE also looks out to the community by hosting

Hip Hop sessions with Cornerjoint, TheNASHmag publication and

“Under1Umbrella” management and members. He also the host of a series

called “Capcity in the Basement” which goes around Pretoria hoods

shooting and profiling upcoming rappers.

He was on unisa radio last night and you can expect him on a series of

KALAVEE ENT Hip Hop Documentary

This May,South African hip hop gets a very big opportunity to change the game. KALAVEE ENT will be travelling to South Africa mid May to shoot a doccumentary that aims at exposing and promoting mainstream and underground creatives (artists, producers, dancers etc) to the much bigger UK and European markets.

The self- funded project will be spearheaded by the award winning UK based Film Company name VeeartMedia. This doccie will be combining all elements of hip hop in hopes of discovering some new fresh talent.

The team will be visiting Durban 18- 21st May & JHB 22nd- 27th May in hoping to find the hidden talent in SA by attending shows in Townships, the cities and anywhere the urban scene is alive, and this means they will be all over spotting talent that resides right in our backyard.

The team working on the "Urban Africa- South Africa" project, are artists themselves and they will be looking to feature SA artists on tracks and music videos which will be shot right here in SA.

However, they will be interviewing some farmiliar faces in the film such as Khuli Chana, Toya Delazy, Trompie, AKA, Blayze, DJ Picasso, 031 Beast, Dynamic and a lot more people who are very keen to be on this doccie. The project will hit major radio stations around the airwaves and updates will be made available on TheNASHmag.

Any recommendations for gig spots, artists etc will be appreciated.

Issue 10: Trompie The Beatmachine

Trompie-The Beat Machine

Trompie, TheBeatmachine is a heavyweight Producer of note bred from Atteridgeville, Pretoria. He has worked with the likes of Towdeemac, KayGizm, Skillo, KT and Damola, to mention some. He has had to be patient in his journey in the industry. He went from being a rapper, a beat maker, a DJ and finally a Producer. With that experience he easily breaks down the difference between being a Producer and a beat maker “one creates a blueprint, one orchestrates the plan to the blueprint”

On the 18th of March he released an EP online titled 1990. It has done extremely well as he has been getting major props on social networks from prominent industry figures because of how it is themed out and its unique sound “from competing with the trap society or ears, coming with something purely recycled from a very good era of sound, that itself proved to be an achievement”

Even though he believes the Pretoria Hip Hop scene needs some CPR as it has a lot of “touch and gos” he has worked on numerous projects with a good number of artists and says each comes with their own state of mind and to have a good working relationship he has to get into their psyche and find a way to be on the same page with each one. “If one feels it’s easy to work with anyone then their chemistry would not last” he says

He lists Boywonder, Skillo, Towdeemac, Letswaka, Skroof Leqhipha as some of the artists to look out for from CapCity who are making big moves.

One person he gets along with is Motswakolista Towdeemac, whom he worked with on his recent project titled Lesson 1, which can be purchased by emailing (towdeemac@gmail.com). “He is my brother from another mother. He and I come from the same musical era. You can say we are cut from the same cloth. We speak in lingo. No one can get us, but us two”

He understands the importance of having an education when in the entertainment industry and says you gotta learn the skill, traits and lingo. ALWAYS be innovative.

God, his Family, his Son and goal driven people are those that inspire him. He would like to work with anyone who is goal driven like or beyond him as his ultimate objective is to be a legend, but that is after being crowned a Musical genius, something he is working on project by project. In his quest to that, today being the 18th he dropped another online project following his 1990 EP which dropped a month ago, on this day.

He is on a mission to inform and teach aspiring producers through his initiative #PRODUCERSCORNERZA. “I believe if people from all corners of the industry join PRODUCERSCORNERZA and learn and share knowledge, and then it will go beyond expectations in no time.”

“South Africa needs to realize we’ve always been trendsetters, therefore I would unfortunately say we have come conformed to other nations, leaving us not to have bettered ourselves that much.”

Trompie don’t stop working much, he has a lot of projects in the pipeline and says he is constantly busy. “I have ways of putting old and new work together to sound fresh and current. Therefore any work can pop out any moment”.

He has teamed up with Towdeemac and J Smallz to form a “super producing team” called “THE FACULTY”. Look out for that.

Article 45: Capable of anything

We capable of many things, yet we somehow choose to ignore everything. We live in a world of opportunities, but all we interested in is material things. We count other people's blessings and forget they are living their lives and we are neglecting ours. We are all blessed with capabilities, unlimited sources of information yet we choose to use them for senseless things. I don't mean to be mean to anyone, but I miss the days when being real was the only real around, when dignity used to be everything. We seem to be sinking into another form of slavery where we judge others on their looks, weight, social status and even social network statuses. Slavery that has blinded most of us into believing we need the approval of others in order to pursue a dream. We use words such as "hate" and "swag" to describe who we are.

We conform to the blindness we see on Tv, hear on radio and spend our time trying to be someone else. Since when was it ok to be compared? Since when did we change our names to sound like we are cool? Since when was immitation the new grattification? Are we so desperate to be liked so much that we judge our importance from Facebook likes? I mean we even follow proudly on social networks and to become a leader you have to break someone else down. I don't write this article to defile, discourage nor judge anyone, I'm simply raising the fact that we are capable of many things

Let's all make a change to get some change. Let's not fight for power, let's rather fight for something that lasts, let's fight for CHANGE because we are CAPABLE.

The Queen

The DJ scene is producing a lot of talented females of late. Every city, every hood has that fiery lady who easily sets the decks on fire, every genre. In G town we got our very own. She goes by the name Mos-D and she is the Lady of Hip Hop decks. She has done lots and lots and lots of sets all over Mzansi, even outside. We caught up with her to find out how she got in this and what her future looks like.

Why & How did you get into the DJ scene? Was it always Hip Hop or did you transition into it?

I had a lot of hip hop music & used to share it with some dj’s & 1 of the dj’s suggested that I should give dj’in a shot…so I started practicing, and soon afterwards I was lucky to get a platform in the form of hip hop Thursday’s, at the former TS lounge (now DJs Lounge), where I could play & get exposed to the crowd. _It’s without a doubt always been hip hop.

What do you think of the Hip Hop scene in Cap City?

I think it’s grown tremendously in the past 2/3 years…now we can have a gig solely for hip hop, unlike before where it would only be house gigs where they would slot in 1hip hop dj … & the talent in terms of emcees is amazing. Of course we still have a long way to go in terms of support for Hip hop; we need to get people to support the hip hop movement.

Which other person from Pretoria, besides yourself do you think is making moves to look out for?

Dj Dijo (featured on our 2nd Cover Issue) who I work a lot with, super talented young man, who taught me a lot of what I know now. Dj Divalash, I’ve never met her & don’t know her personally but I respect her hustle.

There seems to be a “union” among G-Town DJs, is it important to have that, what purpose does it serve?

Yes, this is totally pivotal. We don’t encourage rivalry as we are sort if comrades in the same struggle. G-Town is very small; there really is no room for big egos & unnecessary beef.

What has been some of your biggest highlights so far?

Being able to travel as a result of my dj’ing... I’ve been to Botswana, Kimberly, Kuruman, Mafikeng & been able to play with some big names in the industry.

Generally the reception from the majority of the people who appreciate what I do.

The way things have turned out in a small space of time. I’m thoroughly blessed as I’ve only been in the industry for about a year, but have been able to do so much & grow immensely.

What are your short and long term targets?

Conquer the world lol. My target nje is getting myself exposed. Getting myself out there; for the rest of Tshwane, Gauteng, SA to enjoy the music with me.

Do you think Hip Hop has changed for the better?

Some parts of it have changed for the better & some not, but as change is the only constant; we have no choice but to adapt & embrace whatever the changes (good or bad)

Besides being a DJ, what else do you do?

I work for a financial institution in the employee benefits sector.

Should we look out for a compilation or mix project from you anytime soon?

I’m working on a lil sumin sumin which I can’t reveal now, but u’ll hear about soon.

What struggles have you come across on your way up?

Not being taken seriously is one of the hurdles I have to deal with because I’m new in the industry & because I’m female which leads to the next question

What do you think of the stereotypes that surround your career because of your gender?

As a female, especially in the male dominated hip hop scene, it can be somewhat challenging. A lot of people tend to take me for granted, it’s almost as if they expect me to fail or play crappy sets simply because I’m a woman.

I practice a lot & I take my craft very seriously, & it gives me great pleasure to see their hanging jaws every time I play & prove their expectations wrong.

Nashy I think could be someone super cool, clued up & knows a lil bit of everything & anything.

Article 44: Swinging in the dark

In the quest to find real!

It is a very true story that we have a lot of rappers out there. Rap is the one element that most people choose to explore when they delve into hip hop. While this keeps the music alive, most rappers cannot distinguish between being a lyricist and a word player. Now I’m no expert but I expect to hear your style as soon as you step on the mic.

We have asked this question on our social network accounts and very few so called rappers did not even attempt to answer that question. Those who did answer the question correctly were those who really have found what it means to be a rapper. Now I’m going to give you the most common example I can think of which is Tupac and The Notorious BIG. Pac is an all out lyricist, he did not play around with puns and humor so much in his tracks. He was more of a spiritual rapper who expressed his daily experiences in his lyrics through rhymes and hardcore truth. He did not use so many metaphors nor numerous gestures. He just wrote a story and managed to tell it in 4 minutes of a track. Now I consider that lyricism. The Notorious BIG on the other hand is well known for using humor in his lyrics, he could play with any word thrown to him and make a song out of all that. He used his daily experiences to write his music too but expressed it in a way that made people be able to laugh and really look deep into the environment they live in. he did not ridicule the struggle, he just simply dissed those who did not understand the true definition of what rap should sound like.

Bringing it back home and to the new school of rap, artists could care less about these signatures you have to have in your music in order for people to identify with you. Some people are not hip hop fans, some don’t even care about how you express yourself on a track, but if you look at the tracks that are most loved by none hip hop heads, you will discover that they either love the message in the track or the puns and jargon in the track.

Just saying know your style, don’t just rhyme, don’t just say your 16 bars are lyrics. It takes a whole lot more than just rhyming and writing a catchy hook to say your track is dope. You have to know that not everyone is interested in your rhyme scheme. Not everyone is happy when they listen to your track and not everyone who listens to your track has money or material things.

The question here is “Are you a lyricist or you a wordplayer?”

Skillo has quite a history in the game and is yet to make some more moves. 1. Please give me a brief summary of your musical life :

My first performance was in 1995 lotus garden primary school @the end of year awards evening. With two of my closest friends at the time, Kevin Naaido and Mohamed Riaz and we named the group K.M.C. We sang *Keith Martins - Never find someone like u.*Lol. The crowd went crazy; I started out first as a vocalist so I have a lot of influence from soul music.

2. Why & How did you get into the hip hop scene?

I was always around' bomrapper' so I kinder got hooked to the word construction and how different it is from writing/creating a vocal track. The expression on a hip hop beat has endless limits in terms of concept. So I started to listen to Skeem, Crowded Crew, Bongo Maffin, Rap activity jam Lol. East rand rappers were on fire @that time… Too Fresh!

3. What struggles have you come across on your way up?

The industry has a bad stigma based on loyalty. So the biggest challenge has always been trying to get companies to believe in your product. Money talks strait and 2beers! lol

4. How would you define your sound?

My sound is easy to the ear radio friendly and appeals to all target markets because of the concepts and beats…

5. What do you think of the hip hop scene in Cap City?

The scene has changed for the better because we now regard ourselves as a business*ninjas* Like getting their paperwork in order. Some are upgrading their profiles to get endorsement deals.**hits don't pay bills teamwork does**

6. Which other artist from Pretoria, besides yourself do you think is making moves we should look out for?

Woow!! Too many to mention because their names are now on posters every weekend and I see their names on line-ups with big acts so Cap City is on the hustle.

7. Who locally, is your musical influence?

Mandla Spikiri…Lol *Foreal*

8. You are featured on Hype “Newcomers’ Delight” what did a platform like that do for you?

I was actually surprised that I was on that issue.I wasn't contacted neither was *Team Ninja* but it felt good which means somebody is watching...**so the phone has been quite busy with bookings**

9. What has been some of your biggest highlights in the game so far?

Getting a phone call from HHP*Jabba*@9am Monday morning saying; Le-Mafia **Ayoba Chomie is a hit**that for me was reason enough to keep pushing. **Sereng Stoko Lol. S/0 to Jabba.

10. Do you think the rap game has changed for the better?

Everybody is trying to pay rent so I am not in a position to say who traded underground for commercial...Bread and butter system is the order of the day!

11. Besides being a rapper, what else do you do?

No comment for now...But stay tuned...*For Real*

12. What are you currently busy with that we look out for, from you: mixtape, album, performances, recording?

I am still trying to convince Trompie (HumaBeat Machine) to let me back in studio Lol!! Mix tape is still under-construction it’s gone be full of surprises...I am going back on tour again soon...so look out for all dates and places will be at around the country… More info will follow.

Article 43: Give us a chance, help us advance cause we trying!

As long as we try, maybe things will change.

It’s really a hard world out there and everyone is trying to make it to the promise land. We are all brothers of the same struggle, no matter your race, gender age or where you live. In the end we all want to be successful in what we put our effort into everyday. We all have to be on our A- game no matter what.

The messed up part about trying to succeed is you will find more problems than solutions. You will encounter people who really don’t want to see you succeed and that’s when you character is tested. That’s when we discover what you’re made of. As the youth in South Africa right now, we have a young democracy and everyone is still not used to having so many privileges. We all know the history of our country so I won’t even attempt to explain what happened years ago when I myself did not know how to even type.

This young democracy seems to cause more problems than solutions, it seems as if everyone is out to get their own and there is no more working together. When you apply for a job, it is no longer about how qualified you are. They will probably tell you that you have very little experience which makes no sense because you were in school, how were you supposed to get experience while you had exams to study for? What is so hard about giving someone else a chance to have what you have? Why do people feel better for having more than your fellow black person? I am in no way making this a racial article; I’m merely stating that the people who are supposed to help us don’t seem to care much about us. Why don’t they give us a chance? Why are they surprised that we throw ourselves into drugs, alcohol and sex rather than be creative?

I know nothing comes easy and you have to fight to get yours, I’m just asking why do we have to fight our own kind in order to get ours? Haven’t we been through enough hardships? Don’t we have sufficient talent in the hoods we live in to make a difference in the country or perhaps the whole world? I think this is why the most successful people are those who went out and said f**k society’s rules; I’m doing it my way. I really hope this article reaches someone in a position of power who has been able to resist the allure of all the temptations that come with power and is really out there to help out. Someone who is not selfish and the only good he/ she does is so they make themselves look good.

Someone who is willing to give us a chance to advance because we are really trying.

A tag speaks a million words!!!

Once again TheNASHmag brings you another form of rare talent in the hood. We always try to challenge ourselves in every cover issue we put out. This week we met up with a graffiti artist who goes by the alias of Asse62. Since you know, for some reason graffiti is an illegal form of art in our country so we are going to protect most of his identity in this article. Asse62 has been in this game for a while and has tagged many a wall. He prides himself in every tag he does and represents true hip hop in his style of painting.

He is the pinnacle of what today's morden hip hop.He breaks away from the music, the clothing styles, the beatboxing and everything in between. He chooses to love this culture through the expression of painting and expressing his representation of hip hop. This nigga is what we call real. He chose to take on one of the rarest forms of hip hopin this country. It is very hard to find someone who embarks on this sort of skill and works so hard to perfect it.

In the interview we did, we asked him a few questions. This was his response:

How and when did you get into the art of graffitti?

I had a bit of artistic background and when I saw the picture form that mag (HARD2BURN) I just told myself this is what I wanna do. That same weekend went out, got myself 2 spray cans and just started bombing everywhere, my first piece is still visible.

You say you wanna go incognito,do you still think the art is still considered vandalism,esp in your area

another reason I want to be on the down low is that I don’t want to be associated with every vandalism that happens around my hood, even if it is not me who is responsible, there aren’t many artist around my hood so it would be a bit simpler for the law to track me down.

What are some spots that you've tagged around Pretoria?

I've got a dope piece underneath the bridge before Soshanguve train station. A couple of pieces at Bana Primary and endless tags around Mabopane and Jozi

Are you alligned with other graphers. Do you know any sick graphers we should look out for?

Occasionally I work with this nigga RAKO from Rustenburg, did a dope piece with him during December at Bana Primary, this Nigga got Mad skillz

He is a Music producer, Sound Engineer and Song Writer and when he’s not being that he’s holding down a 925 and studyin’ at the same damn time! But you and most probably know him as a Rapper. He has produced for the likes of J. Pusher and on most of his own projects. Stan B from Pretoria’s Soshanguve is one of the hustlers in these streets. He dropped “Da Stan B Trill Code 101” in 2009 followed by St Tanic v/s Stan B-Gangbangin’ and a mixtape in 2010 titled “Trappin and in 2011 he dropped “Polarbear Swag Mixtape”. He worked very closely with Obita on tracks like “Abafana Baya Gala” which made it to several radio stations including Yfm, 5fm, Ikwekwezi and UJfm. The video for his current single “Duck Down” ft. Obita which looks proper has been playing on one of the biggest Channels out there; Channel O. Stan is paving way and making the City proud, one achievement at a time.

1. Please give me a brief summary of your musical life

Started my own entertainment company (Stan Producshizzle) in 2005. Studied Digital Music Production and Advanced Music Production with Emendy Music and Sound Technologies College in 2008 and 2009.

2. Why & How did you get into the hip hop scene?

Just like in most cases, it all began with the love for the genre, in middle school we were battling each other using other people's lyrics then as time went on I started writing my own.

3. What struggles have you come across on your way up?

Being independent and unknown, People tend not to take you serious especially with a manager who has no clout.

4. How would you define your sound?

I'd let people define it; I'm just makin' music that everyone can relate to.

5. What do you think of the hip hop scene in Cap City?

It has grown but unity is still lackin'.

6. Which other artist from Pretoria, besides yourself do you think is making moves or we should look out for?

7. You have been in the game for so long. Do you think you are underrated in Pretoria or you think you are getting the recognition you’ve earned?

Both, but I feel I still need to work harder so that I can get the recognition I deserve.

8. What has been some of your biggest highlights in the game so far?

Being on Shiz Niz, Daily Sun and sharing the stage with my favorite local artist,Pro in bassline.

9. Your music video has recently hit Channel O, please tell more about it

They loving it, I'm getting more airplay than I expected. My first video got rejected due to quality so for them to playlist this one gave me motivation.

10. What are your short and long term targets?

Getting my music on more radio stations and growing my company bigger.

11. Do you think the rap game has changed for the better?

Yes it has, artists are being more equipped with knowledge and knowing their worth as being artists.

12. Besides being a rapper, what else do you do?

[I’m doing that] 925 and Studying.

13. What are you currently busy with that we look out for, from you: mixtape, album, performances, recording?

I'm currently recording singles and producing for other artists.

My inspiration lives within her, she

Article 41: Chasing dreams is a dream when you young and brown.

As a young person in South Africa right now, I can say I have the right to basically do anything I put my mind to. I am free to exercise any resource I have at my disposal. I am free to do anything I please as long as it is legal in the eyes of the law. Recently I was engaged in a short conversation with this other girl on one social network, she asked me what I do for a living and I told her. I then asked her what she does and her response was somewhat amusing to me I said “So what do you do” she replies “I go to school at TUT”, and then I asked “what else do you do other than school, any interests in anything?”

The question confused her and she quickly blew it off with the excuse of not having time for anything else in her life but school. Then it suddenly occurred to me why there are so many unemployed youth in this country. I do not mean to sound like a parent or judgmental or anything, but how will you fit into the world after school? How will you know where to start because at school they can’t teach you hustling? I understand that school is a very important tool in order for any of us to succeed. But varsity only takes about 5 hours out of your 24 hour day. How about instead of relying on the basics you get from school for the coming 3 years when you doing your diploma you try to find out more about what you doing? You go out and start something that will be the fall back for you after you’re finished with school? It’s not that hard to learn on the streets because there is only one basic rule “in the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king”.

If you always surround yourself with people who are into the same thing you’re into but still be able to go out with or without them to enjoy yourself, then school becomes a bridge you have to cross in order for society to deem you as potentially successful.

Most people who are very successful are not really influenced by the formalities you have to conform to because it is viewed as acceptable. If you fall into the same pattern as those who came before you then nothing will change. As a young black person in South Africa, making my way in this world I have come to learn that it is not always in education that you find knowledge, it is not always by following the rules that you become successful. Sometimes you just have to break the norm and be vigilant when you do things, you just have to learn to be patient and get at every opportunity you get no matter how small.

You have to respect everyone’s field of work and criticize where you see fault. Complaining is easy but so is succeeding. Chase your dream with the right mindset will most definatley get you where you need to go quicker and the journey will teach you a lot.

Don’t go to school and study and then come back home and sit and hope that your diploma will land you that corner office you so desperately wish for.

Don’t chase a dream that is really a dream. Be proactive and go get your own, time waits for no one.

Stay true to what you do, keeps it real

Success is a daily dream of many. We strive everyday to perfect the skill we have chosen as our careers, but what defines being a star? What is the main purpose of doing what you doing? It is evident that the youth of today has chosen a different route from that of our parents and those that came before us. We take more risks, we go harder and we pour our hearts in the things we believe in most. We do this everyday even forgetting that these dreams sometimes make you loose track of important things in your life.

There's really nothing wrong with being ambitious, nothing wrong with wanting to make it out of the situation you were born into. It becomes wrong when you start feeling that what you do on a daily basis is better than what someone else does. we hide our insecurities behind the "haters", the people we believe are out right jealous and would never want to see us succeed. Truth of the matter is most of us don't even have haters, how can someone who lives down the street hate youu when you are both stuck in the same hood doing different things to make it? How can you justify not working with another niga simply because you and your posse think what he is doing is irrelevant to you?

Most successful partnerships comes from places you least expect. I think when you set the bar, you mustn't forget who makes you. A star shines, but if no one admires it it becomes pointless. stop acting like you own the world cause in order for you to make it you need the support of people you don't even know. It is very satisfying to go to sleep knowing that you helped someone else rather than counting the people who did you wrong on that day.

When you start going out and letting your ego lead you instead of just being yourself and letting your work speak for itself, remember this...when you started doing what you are doing you never really knew you where going to progress faster than most people. You didn't count on getting lucky breaks. You were just brave, and fortune favors the brave.

There are no stars, only people who represent a beacon of hope to those on the same road as you. You choose to be a leader, do not let success cloud your judgement because it can disappear as fast as it appears.

Believing you're a star, defeats your purpose.

Mma Hogany Clothing is the brainchild of six individuals who each have a passion for visuals and an eye for fashion and stylish clothing. The young women consisting of Lebogang Shikwambane, Tshimologo Mafojane ,Reabetswe Kungwane ,Gontse Mathabathe ,Sinikiwe Masemola and Lesedi Mafoyane contribute towards the success of the brand with their varied skills. Based in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 4, these ladies are striving to make a success of their business while making many of wedding goers, smart dressers and all round fashionsistas around looking their best.

The company aims at incorporating the different backgrounds, cultures and experiences out of which the founders were groomed, to create a kaleidoscope between authentic African dress and new age trends to smarten up the modern African woman.

Through the use of textiles and designer garments Mma Hogany drives a social movement which reclaims the African identity and culture amongst modern Africans. Mma Hogany is not only a clothing label but a political statement too; it draws from its social and political surroundings as inspiration for the garments.

The company which was previously catering only for females has currently branched out and started producing for males items too. Their clothing varies from casual, semi-casual and formal. It can be worn up or down according to personal preferences.

The company hasn’t been operating for too long but they have already reached a few milestones. They are getting orders through word of mouth and social media, which plays a pivotal part in their marketing.

Don’t lose people for things

Often in our strides to get to the top, when we are passionately driven. When we are aspiring dream achievers and working hard to reach our goals we lose a lot. Sometimes we lose ourselves; we lose time but most of the time, for different reasons we lose the people around us. It can be friends who hold us back, people who don’t believe in our dreams and some we shut out because we are too focused on going up. We kill the bonds and relationships we have all in the name of chasing a dream. It’s one thing cutting toxic friends out yo life coz they are of no use to you, but when you cannot make time to be with your friends or family, yo man or yo gal, because you are too busy on the hustle, ko pele o lo khawatega cause then you won’t have no one to share your achievements with except fake friends who are genuine foes.

You will be so focused on starting that business or moving around the country chasing fans and fame. You may have a burning desire to live the life you’ve always dreamed of. To have that car, that house, a sneaker collection or maybe a business and that it is all that means something to you or maybe you want a dream family. You invest all your time in taking a shot at all those things but invest none in personal relations. You want a family one day that you will share your life with but you are not investing in that.

Yes we are young and ambitious and we have the ability to dream big, but the future is tomorrow away. We must not have that mentality of “when I’m older” because as you invest in your future as a designer, you need to invest in your future as somebody’s something. Life moves as fast as we are living.

You will end up made and achieved but you will also be alone. Or maybe you will be surrounded by people who do not mean much to you because those who do you’ve long lost. You will have a fulfilled but empty life, because at the end what doesn’t kill you and your dream will kill someone else. A person will tire of being there for you; someone will give up because their efforts are not acknowledged. We tend to be selfish sometimes when we are in pursuit of greater things. You might be too determined to not see the person next to you and what you mean to them or how much they are there for you. You might not see the love in their heart or even the pain in their eyes because you are not there; you are not in that space.

It is okay to dream but do not live in a dream or get lost trying to find it. Because you might find it but loose all those you would never dream loosing.

You got to know what to fight for.

Success is a common dream of man. We all want to be successful at something; we wanna see ourselves achieving something extraordinary. This is a state of mind we are all born wit, I mean think about it. No one can really say they taught you how to walk, or talk or rap or be yourself. No one can convince you that whatever you are trying to achive wont be successful unless you choose to have the mindset of that pessimistic mother fucker trying to bring you down.

We are human; the most precious asset we all own is the brain. Like, I don’t get why the fuck some rappers sell out their music for fame and fortune. Why are you a rapper? Is it because you saw a music video where nigaz were popping bottles and shit? Why do you rap? Is it because you are bored and by some miracle you taught yourself how to use studio equipment so you can lace your voice and force us to listen to the noise you somehow call music?

In the hood it’s rare to find a rapper that raps so his music will last long after he’s gone. Rap has changed so much over the years that it’s getting hard for some to stay relevant to the art. In the 90’s it was about war on the racial injustices done on the masses and then we found freedom and now don’t know what the fuck to do with it. This change in the game has led to rappers looking for excuses to justify their music. It’s more to do with selling than actually saying something on a record. I crave hearing something that is conceptual and has meaning, don’t get me wrong I am not saying all rappers should be conscious and I damn sure aint saying all rappers should be YMCMB.

Hip hop is an art that’s supposed to teach people, it is a vehicle of delivering a message to people and you as an artist have the power to choose which message you deliver. If you don’t sound real, then real will not recognize you.

Don’t let change remove the culture you grew up with, don’t let TV influence you, don’t sound like anyone, don’t dress like anyone and don’t move out of your hood because someone made it to the top by doing that. Change does not mean yall have to act a fool, it just simply means there’s more to music than you think. It becomes pointless for you as an unknown rapper to spend a lot of cash on printing CDs, making music videos and dropping links on the net if you don’t know which step to take after doing all that. Anyone can drop a music vid but who will push that shit when it’s time for you to go to the stu?

Please don’t get into hip hop to be cool, don’t do this shit if you gone be a common rapper.

Issue 3: TheNASHmodels: Roxy

Walking a mile in her high heels.

Roxy is a humble, local kasi girl who grew up in the beautiful town of Ga- Rankuwa. She got into modelling at the age of 16, after she became the face of 'Miss .com Salon', and that's when her passion of modeling started. She has gained a lot of experience and she really does not think modelling is a long term career but, just a hobby that she loves doing on her spare time, but she chose modelling mainly because she loves being around people, to be on a platform where she can be able to show case her talents. She is a confident and an outspoken young black woman.

This has been an awesome experience for her because, she gets the opportunity to meet great people who inspire and motivate her to an extent that she connot put in words.

Yes there are obstacles along the journey, yes there are ups and downs but she has learned that when you are in this industry, you need to mature quickly, you need to have passion in what you do, be patient and give it your all and the rest shall follow. Her motivation and most desired goal is to own a modelling agency and motivate the youth out there to showcase their talents.

When asked about her great physique, she said ''What i can say is that we as people are not the same. I'm one of those people who take care of their diets, I eat healthy and exercise regularly. Those who starve themselves are doing that at their own risk. As a person you know how your body works so you need to take care of it your own way.''

What she considers the highlight of her career so far is being crowned the ''Miss .com'' and becoming the face of ''.com salon''

Roxy's secret to great skin, good body and a healthy weight is taking good care of body and diet. Eating healthy is the most important way to maintain her body.

Education is the main priority in her life at the moment. She is currently studying geology at the Tshwane University of Technology and has recently started her own company.

TheNASHmag asked Roxy if she sees growth annd development in Ga- Rankuwa. This is what she had to say:

What’s real and what’s fake-can you tell the difference?

Too often people do not get what it means to be real and at the end they become very ignorant. Too often it’s the fine line between truth and lie, between want and need, real and fake that confuses the hell out of people. When we were growing up we believed the shity stunts in the movies to be real.

We thought those wrestling stunts were also true until we grew up and found out the truth, but even now there are still lies that we cannot see through. There are still lies covered in shine and shimmer. Guys still tell girls they love em when they don’t. Parents still lie to their kids and kids still lie to their parents. People say things they don’t meant just to get what they need. While some remain true and loyal to whom they are, sticking with what they believe in, others do things that are foreign to them because they feel the pressure to fit in. How do you know when shit real?

We live in times where it’s become really hard to tell the difference between what’s real and what’s not. People are stunting out there, they ain’t who they pretend to be, and they ain’t who they say they are. A lot of artists have sold their realness for a lil bit of fame and validation they get from the people whom they regard as important. If you do something you do not believe in because it will up your sales or make you famous, you must know you will lose who you are and what you stand for.

Sometimes artists need to ask themselves why is it that they started doing what they do. Who were they doing it for? Is the love still the same, is the passion still there? Are they still happy doing what they do, do they feel validated, are they making a difference, Progress? Have they forgotten their fans? The people who matter the most? The people who have been with them since the beginning, who buy their music and attend their gigs, are they looking out for them, are they a priority for them. Sometimes artists seem to forget them when the money comes and they are doing great that when they go to the studio they do not give their all in their music. They quality of their work deteriorates and they don’t sound the way they used to.

There is a lot of cock-sucking in the rap game. Rappers change who they are and what their art is all about for fame and radios and TV appearances. They sacrifice that and forget why they got on it in the first place. Today becoming a celebrity is more important than becoming an artist. It’s like you have to pull silly stunts and be who you not to get recognition (look at 2chainz). A lot of conscious/ underground rappers seldom get the fame and money. Many will do whatever gets them the fame and the shine, even if it means losing that which they are and .Rappers now rap for fame and no longer consider the people. They record material that they know will be radio friendly, catchy and suitable for clubs. No one wants to be different it seems. They do what they do for incentive and not because they consider the fans. Today being a conscious rapper is a difficult thing, so we keep hearing the same tracks with the same content. So the standards drop, content flops and we all listen to the same raps. we all hearing the same lines, everyone is a boss, everyone got swag, everyone got a snapback and a tattoo, everyone calling woman bitches and bitches calling each other bitches and beef is a thing of the norm. Everyone got money and has had sex with over hundred bitches. Who is talking about education? Who is encouraging brotherhood and poor mentality in the streets? Who is spiting a 16 with no curse in it? Who’s changing the rap scene?

The fans deserve way more than what they are getting. No one is themselves anymore. No one is real anymore. Y’all are busy claiming on every song. Yeah, if you are living well you gots to say so, but were you always popping bottles and flying on jets? How about narrate us a story of how you got there? Yeah, we can’t all be conscious but we can’t all be ignorant either. There are a lot of uninformed people out there who do not know what it means to be real. Rappers are giving just to receive, they no longer rapping for the cause, for the people, to uplift, to consciousntice, to teach, to wake up people, to inspire. Rappers are no longer connected to their fans. They no longer rep them, they no longer tell their stories. They do not even tell their own stories. They have distanced themselves from things that matter. Music is not what it used to be, it does not sound the same and it does not make the same impact it used to make.

Whatever happened to keeping shit real? What about being the person for the people, to saying what’s on your mind? To saying what needs to be said? Hell, Artists are not even controversial anymore. A lot are too ignorant to realize the importance of being real.

Article 36: Fuki Baby: G- Town's own

Setting the stage alight the only way he knows how.

Everyone who has seen Fuki-Baby on stage will tell you what a great performer he is. He is probably the best performer around the hood. Taking to him this past week, I got to find out about his journey that led him to music, what he thinks of his music and his competition and how much of a straight talker he is.

For a 21 year old, Fuki’s history in the arts is packing. He started off as a comedian earning himself the name “Fuki”. As a Lil Wayne fan he heard him chant “weezy F baby”, he then added that to his name to complete the popularly known “Fuki Baby” name. He also played soccer and was once a pantsula dancer. He said it’s been a long time coming for him to end up in the music scene. He realized his gift to entertain and grab the attention of people. As a youn’in, seeing Mzambiya and Msawawa on TV sparked that interest in the entertainment industry and pushed him into music and as he said it, he was “jealous of them” and “wanted to be like them”.

Two singles later, Fuki-baby is on the top log with some of the best loved around the hood. 21st and Ga-Rankuwa are two of singles off of his recently released debut mixtape titled “Only God Knows” which he is offering to the public for free. “21st”, he says he recorded it because he was turning 21 himself and wanted a song that will resonate with that and the crowd has received itwell. Rankuwa is another hot track that the masses love. It’s paying homage to his hood and the place that it is.

When asked why he is giving away the tape for free, he said it’s because “it was my first project and since recording it to where I am now, I am not the same person. I have grown as an artist. I realized that what I was talking about on the tracks and what I did and who I am and the life I am living was not the same. So I felt like I wasn’t being real to myself and my fans. I wanted them to know my music but I felt I shouldn’t make them pay for it because it was not my best and my best is yet to come. Since turning 21 I have changed.”

He is very hard on himself with his art and says he wants to make realistic music and not give in to the pressures of being similar to other artists and sing about things that have no relevance to him. He believes that many rappers expect too much from themselves because they want to consider themselves the best, that they put unnecessary pressure on themselves instead of just being real to their selves. “For now I am about performances. Making sure people know my music and making sure everywhere I go it’s about me and my name big, to make it big”.

He works with a team called “O.G.K” which comprises of two rappers and two DJs TJ and Khama. He has a lot of Drake inspired kicks on many of his beats as he is one of the artists he listens to. New international sensation Kendrick Lamar is one person he looks up to and says locally he doesn’t really look up to anyone and considers the bars not very high.

“I am unique. I believe if I get a chance to be on a track with some of the big names in the game I can be above most, even most have experience and can probably kill me when it comes to verses but on the chorus and stage performance I can do very well.”

On the subject of haters, he says he has recently found a number of them but has no time to entertain them. “I don’t have beef. I do not focus on negative stuff. They talk about me and give me promotion. What I do is say my piece to them, I do not retaliate the same way they attack me. ” He says he has heard three diss tracks that are about him that are doing the rounds from people he doesn’t know but one of the tracks are by Retro (keep an ear out for those).

With his first project he was sourcing out the market and trying to figure out the crowd, figure out which sound they like and give them more of that. He found out and learned what he needed to chance and improve on. “I was bragging about money but I realized it wasn’t my money, it was my family money. I had nothing.”

When Fuki is on stage it’s all about him, “I don’t focus on the crowd. It’s all about me. I get on stage and do my thing and at the end of the performance I know that I killed it.”

The local scene is looking good and most rappers are doing their thing. I think Kayso is the guy that I see as competition. He’s on my level in terms of presence and crowd appeal. I believe we are fighting for the same spot. The “parapara” joint helped him and if we put it aside I can kill him. I don’t want to sound arrogant or what not but my sound is very different from everyone else’s’.

He is currently busy working on his second mixtape which will be titled “Fuki-Baby and Niggaz”. On it he plans to be feature game players like Sp, CIA, Dotso, Boipelo, Pro-chiq and a whole lot of others. This is to help him up his standards and find out who is better than him. Branching Zaegos and Gazebo chilling sessions and working with other artists like Pro-Chiq and Boipelo. He is looking to also work with Young Pro and Boypeza to get the exposure in their hoods.

Some tracks that Fuki has put out include “lebotha” which played on Yfm’s hot 99 charts for a few, there’s also “ dedication” which has a huge Kwaito feel, ‘hate on me” which was addressing the haters and “tomorrow is the destination”.

This quote is from him to the hates “I’m pushing hard, I making noise. They talking loud and I don’t care” and to his fans “I appreciate the support you give me because you make me who I am. Look out for my mixtape coming out next year.”

Article 35: Stop living to impress and start living to progress.

If you were born in the hood then you will surely know this. Tradition dictates that on Christmas, our parents make it a point that they buy us the coolest clothes they can think of. It is customary to go shopping for that kinda shit on Christmas, but the customs since to have changed with the times. Lately Christmas is an excuse for us to get drunk, irresponsible and stupid. As black people, we have this mentality of using any holiday as a reason to be as stupid as possible.

I don’t know why, but we as the youth of today have seemed to forget the significance of these holidays. We really don’t give a shit how we got to enjoy the little privileges we have today. I don’t mean to sound like your mom or some shit, but when was the last time any of us celebrated a holiday for the significance of that holiday? Are we really that ignorant? Are we that desperate to impress each other that if you don’t get drunk on a holiday you are branded as boring?

It seems like the only time we take time to understand the world around us is when we are fed the bullshit of social media and peer pressure. We often joke about peer pressure and act like it’s a term for white people, this term has such a hold over us that we are willing to lie to our parents to get the money we need to go out. Fun is a good thing, but take time to think of the responsibilities you have to yourself, think about the morning after the night before. Pharmacies are ripping the benefits of “Morning after pills”, too many people end up in hospital, and most if not all of us spend money like the shit is going out of fashion.

I love yall my fellow black youngens but we have to start making a change, I am tired of seeing the same shit every year and then people complain of hangovers, being broke and not remembering what they did the night before. I bet when you start posting a status on Facebook or Twitter, you do it to see how many people will be interested in the dumb shit you did.

Let’s stop living to impress and start living to progress.

Article 34: Do it cause its art

It is quite apparent that today’s modern world is filled with so many possibilities that one does not know which to choose. We are constantly being bombarded with information, career choices and everything in between. Shit gets real for most of us after we finish high school and realize that life is not one big party where you are locked up in the school yard for 5 hours and given 2 breaks to eat and socialize.

We quickly realize and learn that, life is a long ass journey that requires us to think harder than before, act faster and be hurt more easily. Most of us choose the route to go to University and study for some shit you think you good at because you were the best at it in high school. For the hardcore people, University is not an option, school is not an option…this select few of people who choose to follow what they believe in are mostly shunned by society because they are not scared to break the norm and explore something new.

I respect this people because it takes a lot of guts to say you are making it in life when you finished matric 5 years ago and have no single diploma to your name simply because you are not one to follow the ways of society. When you believe your artistic vision cannot be interpreted by any text book or literature you are forced to read and understand because having that knowledge ‘improves’ your social status.

I think art is a way for people to better explain most things we experience in life. Music is one form of art that has the ability to change how people act, feel and look at the world around em. Personally I’m a hip hop lover; this music is probably the realest form of black art you will ever get to experience. It does not conform to the shit dished out at school for you to follow, it does not abide by the law most times and it is interpreted as violent and an excuse for us to act irresponsible.

The little number of rappers who can accurately breakdown what’s real are usually branded as controversial and decayed. It is believed that if you are a rapper you have given up on most of the shit in your life so you can get to smoke weed everyday and this mindset is busy filling up the game with idiots who think just because they can spit a rhyme and demean women then what they do is art. Hip hop is a way for everyone to explain their travels in life through the oldest form of communication which is ‘talking’. Delivery of a message is key, be real in your storyline in a song, relate to someone, be yourself, be unique and don’t do it for the money, the lights, the fame, the groupies or all that materialistic shit that drive most hood rappers. Do it for the fun, do it for the people, rap with the people not for the people.

Don’t do it for the money, do it from the heart.

Do it cause its art!!!
