This article lays the foundation for your work. It is highly recommended that you understand the concepts and perform the tasks discussed here, even if you feel they are basic or you already know them.

Before we continue, there are a few basic terms that you should understand right off the bat. These terms are the most often misunderstood by beginners. There are other terms you’ll need to know, but let’s get through these first.

Rank, ranking:

A website’s actual placement or position on the free (unpaid) listing section of a search engine results page for a certain search term or phrase. It is meaningless to speak of website rank without specifying what search word or phrase you are ranked on. When someone says to you “My website is #1 on Google”, you need to ask “OK, but for which search term?” Your ranking on Google is dependent on a number of different factors, which is the subject of a significant portion of this guide.

PageRank:

Google’s patented system for specifying a web page’s importance, which is but a single, albeit important, factor that determines rank. Many people confuse a page’s rank (what position they are on a search results page) with a page’s PageRank (PR) value. They are totally separate. Because of the confusion around PageRank, it will be discussed in detail later on.

Keywords:

Keywords for those words and phrases that best define what a web page is all about, and are found in a variety of places on web pages. When someon enters a search term or phrase into Google, Google tries to find those web pages whose keywords match the search phrase the best. This is an oversimplification here, but you should get the idea. Some people confuse keywords with the META “Keywords” tag. They are not the same thing. The days of filling up the META Keywords tag with as many terms as possible are over. Google, along with most other search engines today, ignore META tags as they have been so abused.

Page title:

The title of a web page is the text contained between the <TITLE></TITLE> tags at the top of an HTML file and is displayed in the top bar of a browser window. It is not the first heading of a web page or any other large text that may be displayed at the top of a web page. This is an important distinction to know.

The Importance of Google

So why a special guide just on Google? Aren’t there hundreds, if not thousands, of search engines out there that need to be worried about? There are many other search engines and search directories that exist, but Google is the most prominent, most used, and most important of them all. At the very least, it is the search engine you should focus your website promotion efforts on first. So let’s discuss why this is so...

Without a doubt, Google is the largest and most used search engine in the world today. Google currently indexes over 4.3 billion Web pages (as well as PDF, Word, Excel and other files), over 880 million images, over 850 million Usenet (newsgroup) messages, performs more than 200 million searches per day, and has 82 million unique visitors per month (as of March 2004).

Google also currently provides search results to other search engines and directories, notably AOL, Netscape, Lycos, CompuServe, Earthlink, and AT&T Worldnet.

This means a # 1 ranking on Google also mostly likely will land you a # 1 position on these partner sites as well! I say “likely” because the partner sites tend to blend their results a little bit so the rankings across the partners may not be exact. With its partners included, Google alone is responsible for powering over 51% of all search engine traffic to websites.

Clearly, Google is where you need to focus your website promotion efforts. After you have applied the techniques discussed in this guide, have monitored your results, and then refined your efforts over several months time, you should start seeing dramatic results. As an aside, the other major search engines are starting to look for the same elements as Google. So if you get it right for Google, you have also gotten it right in general for all the other search engines!

How Google Works

This section explains those elements of the Google ranking process that will matter most to you. It is not meant however to be an exhaustive inside look of how Google works – only a handful of persons at Google know this.

Google, like other search engines, uses automated software to read, analyze, compare, and rank your web pages. So you need to know what elements and factors Google cares about, and how important these factors are in relation to each other.

Because this is an important concept, it will be repeated: Google uses automated software to analyze your website – not human beings. Which means that visual elements of your website that may matter to you – like layout, color, animation, Flash, and other graphics are ignored by Google. The Google search engine is like a blind person reading a book in Braille – anything that is graphical, spatial, or visual in nature is simply not seen.

As such, you need to start thinking like the Google search engine.

So What Is a Ranking?

As stated previously, a ranking on a search engine is a web page’s listing and relative placement on a results page (also known as a SERP) for a certain search query. As an example, if you type “house plans” into the search box at Google, you will get those listings displayed (10 listings per page by default) that Google deems most relevant to the search phrase house plans, sorted in order of relative importance.

The most relevant and most important web pages are listed in descending order. For Google, page relevancy is dependent on how well a web page “matches” a specific word search. Page importance on the other hand is dependent on the quality and quantity of links that point to your web page from other web pages (particularly from web pages on websites other than your own). The concept of link quality is important.

If your site does not appear in the top 30 for your most important category or subject, you might as well forget getting much traffic from Google or from any other search engine. Because many people never go past the first page for a search result, you really need to be in the top 10.

It can be debated how much more traffic a #1 gets compared to say, a #3 or a #10 ranking. Studies indicate that those listings “above the fold” on a results page (which means anything higher than a #4 or #3 depending on your monitor size, resolution, and other factors) do better than those below the fold as a certain percentage of people do not scroll. Above the fold is anything displayed on the page before you have to start scrolling.

When Google Comes Visiting

To be listed in Google’s database (or index), Google visits your site using automated programs called robots or spiders. Such programs “read” each and every page ofyour website, starting typically with your home page and then following each link to all other web pages on your site. When a search engine robot or spider visits your site, it is said to crawl or spider your site.

Important:

Google will not add a web page to its index unless there is at least one other web page in its index that links to one of your web pages. So don’t fret over submitting your site to Google directly. Rather, you need to get another website to link to your website first.

Website crawls are performed by the main Google spider, called Googlebot. Google updates its main index regularly and now tends to go with a more continuous almost-daily update although major monthly “updates” still happen. These major updates usually correspond to major ranking algorithm changes (like the Florida Update). The more “popular” your site, the more often it typically is crawled by Google. Highly ranked sites and sites that update content frequently (like news sites) get crawled daily.

The index update is generally based on content they have cached or stored in their database previously. Because of the nature of the update process, ranking calculations are performed multiple times for each page of every site. Because of the sheer number of web pages in the Google index, these calculations can take a while Note that PageRank calculations still are done monthly.

As such, search rankings can fluctuate - sometimes minute-by-minute. These fluctuations were sometimes called the Google Dance as your site’s ranking can jump around on a search results page (or even appear to drop completely). You can view other versions of the index on different servers at the ten major Google data centers by using the Google Dance Tool at http://www.google-dance.com.

Important:

It is critical that your website is up and running when Google visits you. If your site is down, your listing on Google may disappear until the next update! The reason is that Google thinks your site no longer exists and may remove it from the index.

If interested, you can check your server log files for the user-agent “Googlebot”. This will tell when Google crawls your site. You can also check by IP address although this method is not as accurate as Google uses different IP addresses for their robots, which can change over time. You can also look at the date displayed on the last line of your website’s listing on a Google search results page.

How Google Ranks Websites

Google uses a sophisticated and proprietary algorithm for ranking Web sites that uses over 100 different criteria in the calculation, each of which is given a specific weighting which can change over time. Because the algorithm can change, specific techniques that used to work well may no longer work as well over time. This is important to remember when your site’s ranking seems to change for no apparent reason. For this reason, optimizing your site should not be considered as a one-time task. You should always try, test, and refine your efforts.

With that said, the Google algorithm can be broken down into two major groups of factors:

On-page (keyword) factors.

Keyword factors involve how, where and when keywords are used. Meaning how well your website is optimized for your chosen keywords, and if those same keywords appear in links that point to pages on your site. Keyword factors determine page relevance.

Off-page (link) factors.

These include the quantity and quality of links that point to your site. Link factors determine page importance and are strongly related to Google PageRank (PR).

Very simply put, Google finds pages in its index that are both relevant and important to a search for a particular term or phrase, and then lists them in descending order on a search results page.

On-Page Factors and Page Relevance

Keywords are intrinsically related to search terms – those words and phrases that people enter into a search engine to find specific information. Most people enter 2 to 5-word phrases in Google to find what they are looking for. Google in turn analyzes all pages in its index and lists the pages which contain those search terms. Each website usually contains one or two keywords that are repeated more often than others throughout the site. These keywords dictate the “theme” of a website, and will be discussed later on.

How well you can define the theme of your site, and how well you can optimize the use of keywords that comprise the theme of your site, will greatly influence your ranking with Google.

Google determines the most relevant web pages based on a hypertext search and analysis of your site and of other sites that contain links to your site. Specifically, Google looks to see if the text of a link (the clickable portion) that points to your site, the title of the linking page, and other content on the linking page, also contain your keywords.

Note: When Internet marketers speak of optimizing a site for a search engine, they are usually talking about improving those aspects and elements of your website that will improve page relevance.

Off-Page Factors (PageRank) and Page Importance

Page importance is all about links - their quantity, quality, and strength, which we will discuss later on. This part of the algorithm is also called the Google PageRank (PR).

Google looks for links that point to your site from other websites. Google believes a link from website A to website B is a “vote” for the importance of website B. In this way, other websites add votes for your website, which in turn helps increase a pages PageRank value on your site. Each page on your site has a PR value. Usually the PR value is the highest for the home page as most people will link to your home page rather than another page on your site.

The more web pages that link to your site, the more important Google thinks your site is and hence the higher your PageRank value can be. Moreover, it is the quality, as well as the quantity, of links that matter – not all links are valued the same. However, keep in mind that PageRank is but a single (albeit important) factor used in ranking. Sites that are highly optimized for particular keywords can outrank sites that are less optimized but have higher PageRank values.

PageRank value is assigned after comparing every page on every site in the Google index against one another. This is over 3.3 billion web pages! Note that PageRank does NOT factor in keywords or phrases used on your site.

Note: When Internet marketers speak of increasing your link popularity, they are generally talking about increasing the quantity and quality of links to your site, generally through a reciprocal link exchange effort.

Top 5 Things Google Looks For

Although Google looks at over 100 different criteria (which can change in importance

over time) for ranking sites, here are the five aspects or elements that are currently

deemed a “must-do” if you are serious about a top ranking. There are others

elements that will be discussed later on that are also important. The following are

listed in approximate order of importance, with the first item being much more

important than the others:

Keywords used in the title of your pages (between the <TITLE> tags).
Keywords used in headings (H1) and in the first paragraph of your pages.
Keywords used in link text, both on your site AND on other websites.
The PageRank (PR) value of your pages, which in turn is dependent on the number of links that point to your site from other sites.
Pages that contain at least 250 words of relevant text content (and the more pages the better).

Put even more simply, to rank high on Google, you need to optimize your website fory our best keywords, get as many important and relevant sites to link to your site as you can, and make sure the text of those links contain your best keywords.

Today we are going talk about solar cycle. Recently, On Tuesday NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) jointly released a consensus statement announcing the commencement of solar cycle 25. Solar cycle have been observed since the early 17th century.

What is Solar Cycle ?

The Sun follows a pattern of 11 years, during which solar activities go up and down between solar minima and maxima. Depending on the number of sunspots detected on the sun. Solar maxima – highest number of sunspots. Solar minima – lowest number of sunspots. Sunspots are small and dark, yet cooler areas formed on the solar surface, where there are strong magnetic forces. The dipolar (north-south) magnetic field part of the Sun also flips every 11 years. However, the peak in the dipolar field falls behind the peak in the sunspot number, with the former happening at the minimum between two cycles.

How Will Solar Cycle 25 Look Like?

The short answer is, probably a lot like the last — that is, the past 11 years of the Sun’s life, since that’s the average length of any given cycle. There were no sunspots for 281 days in 2019 and 181 days in 2020. Since December 2019, the sun powered exercises have gradually gotten, authenticating the start of the new cycle. The panel termed solar cycle 25 to be a weak one, with the strength almost the same as that of Solar cycle 24.

“Just because it is a below-average cycle, it does not mean that there is no risk of extreme space weather. Violent solar eruptions can occur at any time,” said Doug Biesecker, panel co-chair and solar physicist at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Centre, Colorado. He further adds, that Solar cycle 25 will reach a peak sunspot number of 115 in July of 2025.

While this may seem of an alarm to us all, NASA has hinted that we have nothing to worry or stress over.

The effects of corona virus are now spreading dangerously all over the world. It is having the most effect in American and India. As each week passes, it is becoming more and more clear that coronavirus can trigger a huge range of nerve-based problems. The disease caused by the new coronavirus, is mostly a breathing and lung related illness that affects the lungs, but neuroscientists and specialist brain doctors say newly appearing evidence of its impact on the brain is concerning.

As we all know that the coronavirus targets the lungs, kidneys, liver and blood vessels. Still, about half of patients report nerve-based signs of sickness, including headaches, confusion and delirium, suggesting the virus may also attack the brain.

The new study offers the first clear evidence on how the coronavirus invades brain cells, hijacking them to make copies of itself and sucks up all of the oxygen nearby, starve neighboring cells to death.

The study was posted online last week but has not yet been vetted by experts for publication.

“If the brain does become infected, it could have a lethal consequence,” said Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale University.

It's muddled how the infection gets to the brain or how frequently it sets off this path of devastation. Contamination of the brain is probably going to be uncommon, yet a few people might be vulnerable due to their hereditary foundations, a high popular burden or different reasons.

In the new investigation, Dr. Iwasaki and her associates archived brain disease in three different ways: in brain tissue from a person who died of corona virus, in a mouse model and in organoids— clusters of brain cells in a lab dish meant to mirror the brain’s three-dimensional structure.

This means that the coronavirus blocks the brain signal.

Her team then looked at two sets of mice — one with the ACE2 receptor expressed only in the brain, and the other with the receptor only in the lungs. When researchers introduced the virus into these mice, the brain-infected mice rapidly lost weight and died within six days. The lung-infected mice did neither.

The virus may get to the brain through the olfactory bulb, which is a neural structure of the vertebrate forebrain involved in olfaction, the sense of smell. It’s unclear which route the pathogen is taking, and whether it does so often enough to explain the symptoms seen in people.

Forty percent to 60 percent of hospitalized Covid-19 patients experience neurological and psychiatric symptoms, said Dr. Robert Stevens, a neurologist at Johns Hopkins University. The results still suggest that virus infection in the brain may be more lethal than respiratory infection, Dr. Iwasaki said.

A cryptocurrency is a virtual (digital) currency designed to work as a medium of exchange. It uses cryptography to secure transaction records, to control the creation of additional coins, and to verify the transfer of coin ownership. Cryptocurrencies leverage blockchain technology to gain decentralization, transparency, and immutability. Cryptocurrencies typically use decentralized control as opposed to centralized digital currency and central banking systems. There are many virtual currencies in the world. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, Bitcoin cash and many more. But most popular is Bitcoin.

In October 2008 a document was published online by a guy calling himself Satoshi Nakamoto. The document, also called a whitepaper, suggested a way of creating a system for a decentralised currency called Bitcoin. This system claimed to create digital money that solves the double spend problem without the need for a central authority. With Bitcoin, every computer that participates in the system is also keeping a copy of the ledger, also known as the Blockchain.

What is Blockchain ?

A blockchain is a chain of blocks that contains information. This technique was originally described in 1991 by a group of researchers and was originally intended to timestamp digital document so that it’s not possible to backdate them or to tamper with them. A blockchain is a distributed ledger that is completely open to anyone. Each block contains some data, the hash of the block and the hash of the previous block. The data that is stored inside a block depends on the type of block chain. The Bitcoin block chain, for example stores the details about a transaction in here, such as the sender, receiver and amount of coins. A block also has a hash. You can compare a hash to a fingerprint. It identifies a block and all of its contents and it's always unique, just as a fingerprint.

Once a block is created, its hash is being calculated. Changing something inside the block will cause the hash to change. So in other words: hashes are very useful when you want to detect changes to blocks. If the fingerprint of a block changes, it no longer is the same block. The third element inside each block is the hash of the previous block. This effectively creates a chain of blocks and it’s this technique that makes a block chain so secure.

History Of Cryptocurrency And Bitcoin

In 1983, the American cryptographer David Chaum conceived an anonymous cryptographic electronic money called ecash. Later, in 1995, he implemented it through Digicash. In 1998, Another person called Wei Dai published a description of "b-money", characterized as an anonymous, distributed electronic cash system. Shortly after that, Nick Szabo described bit gold. The first decentralized cryptocurrency, bitcoin, was created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto has stated that work on the writing of the code for bitcoin began in 2007.[8] On 18 August 2008 he or a colleague registered the domain name bitcoin.org. On 31 October 2008, he published a paper on the cryptography mailing list at metzdowd.com describing a digital cryptocurrency, titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System".

Japan’s SkyDrive Carries Out First Successful Test Flight of ‘Flying Car’

Our dream of seeing flying car are now going to succeed but this is just small step towards future technology.

Japan's skydrive successfully test flight on Friday 28 August with one person aboard.

The single-seat car, powered by a battery and four pairs of propellers, was lifted to six feet above the ground and floated in/stayed close to a netted test area for about five minutes.

Tomohiro Fukuzawa, heading the project at the SkyDrive, said he hopes "the flying car" can be converted into a real-life product by 2023. He further acknowledged that testing it for safety was critical.

“Of the world’s more than 100 flying car projects, only a handful has succeeded with a person on board,” Fukuzawa told The Associated Press on Friday. “I hope many people will want to ride it and feel safe.”

The firm said it wanted the vehicle to be available to buy in Japan by 2023, with reports suggesting it could cost upwards of $300,000.

There are several flying taxis and cars currently in development. The name is Uber’s VTOL taxis,Airbus Vahana,Volocopter 2X,AeroMobil’s prototype,Kitty Hawk’s flying prototype.

Elon Musk's Neuralink puts computer chips in pig's brain

On Friday 28 august musk unveiled a pig named Gertrude that has had a coin-sized computer chip in its brain for two months.

Elon Musk co-founded neuralink in 2016 with the goal of creating a wireless BMI

(Brain-machine interface). Musk hope that BMI can cure neurological conditions such as alzheimer's, dementia and spinal cord injuries and ultimately fuse humankind with artificial intelligence.

He described it as "like a Fitbit in your skull." They were, “healthy, happy and indistinguishable from a normal pig,” Mr. Musk said.

Neuralink design that involves implanting tiny electrode threads into the brain as well as another device behind the ear, but this new device does not require any device behind the ear. He said the process of "getting a link" will not require general anesthesia and hoped that a robot will do the entire surgery in about an hour.

Neuralink is currently focused on different conditions including memory loss, blindness, paralysis, hearing loss, depression and insomnia.

Hubble finds Giant Halo Around Andromeda Galaxy

In a hugely important study, scientists using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have mapped the huge envelope of gas, called a halo, surrounding the Andromeda (large star system/large group of things), our nearest large (related to outer space) neighbor.

Scientists were surprised to find that this weak and thin, nearly invisible halo of thinly spread plasma extends 1.3 million (multiples of 6 trillion miles) from the (large star system/large group of things)--about halfway to our Milky Way--and as far as 2 million (multiples of 6 trillion miles) in some directions. This means that Andromeda's halo is already bumping into the halo of our own (large star system/large group of things).

"Understanding the huge halos of gas surrounding galaxies is immensely important. This reservoir of gas contains fuel for future star formation within the galaxy, as well as outflows from events such as supernovae. It's full of clues regarding the past and the future evolution of the galaxy, and we're finally able to study it in great detail in our closest galactic neighbor." said co-investigator Samantha Berek.

The scientists have now predicted that both the halos of Andromeda and Milky Way were on a collision course indicating that both the galaxies would merge to form a bigger elliptical galaxy, in upcoming four billion years.

Creek Fire in Northern California

What is DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. DNA carry genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses. There are three types of DNA. These are terms A-form, B-form,and Z-form DNA.

What is DNA profiling

DNA profiling is process of determining an individual's DNA characteristics. It is use to get profile (DNA pattern) from a person.

Human DNA consists of 3 billion bases (ATCG). More than 99% of those bases are the same in all people. However, specific regions vary highly between people. These regions are called polymorphic. These different region inherit by our parents is known as polymorphisms. These unique region helps to get DNA profile.

History of DNA profiling

DNA profiling first started out in the 1980s.

The first patent covering the direct use of DNA variation for forensics was filed by Dr. Jeffrey Glassberg in 1983. In the UK, Geneticist Sir Alec Jeffreys independently developed a DNA profiling process in beginning in late 1984, while working in the Department of Genetics at the University of Leicester.

In India DNA fingerprinting was started by Dr. VK Kashyap and Dr. Lalji Singh. Dr.Singh was popularly known as the "Father of Indian DNA fingerprinting".

DNA EXTRACTION

DNA need to extract from cell and purified.

The cell and nuclear membranes need to be broken up to allow the DNA to be free in solution. Once the DNA is free, it can be separated from all other cellular components. After the DNA has been separated in solution, the remaining cellular debris can then be removed from the solution and discarded, leaving only DNA. There many methods to extract DNA. These are Organic extraction,Chelex extraction and solid phase extraction.

RFLP analysis

DNA is collected from cells and cut into small pieces using a restriction enzyme (a restriction digest).

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis

PCR is a method widely used to rapidly make millions to billions of copies of a specific DNA sample, allowing scientists to take a very small sample of DNA and amplify it to a large enough amount to study in detail.

STR analysis

Short tandem repeats are regions of non-coding DNA that contain repeats of the same nucleotide sequence. For example, ATCGATCGATCGATCG is an STR where the nucleotide sequence ATCG is repeated four times.

The variable (polymorphic) nature of the STR regions that are analyzed for forensic testing intensifies the discrimination between one DNA profile and another.

Application of DNA profiling

It is used for parentage testing, to establish immigration eligibility, and in genealogical and medical research.
Identification of blood relatives.
It is used to detect maternal cell contamination.

About Ceres

Ceres is an dwarf planet locates between Mars and Jupiter, is a mysterious and exotic world, with its complicated history and recent geologic activity.

Scientists began tracking in 1979 with satellites. In July 1980s,the ice covered an average of about 3.8 million square miles. This July,sea ice covered only 2.8 million square miles.Every year on an average, arctic sea ice decline by 27000 square miles.

According to UK Met Office's Headley center

Climate model has allowed scientists to compare Arctic sea ice conditions during the last interglacial period with the present day.The team said that the arctic sea will completely lost its ice by 2035.

This is because the model reveals that intense spring sunshine resulted in the creation of large numbers of “melt ponds”.These melt ponds dictate how much sunlight is absorbed by the ice sheets and how much is reflected back into space.

Ice has a higher albedo (reflectivity) than water, and as the number and size of melt ponds grow, consequently the amount of energy absorbed from the sun rises - warming the planet further and causing further melting.

“High temperatures in the Arctic have puzzled scientists for decades.

Unravelling this mystery was technically and scientifically challenging. For the first time, we can begin to see how the Arctic became sea ice-free during the last interglacial.

The advances made in climate modelling means that we can create a more accurate simulation of the Earth’s past climate, which, in turn gives us greater confidence in model predictions for the future.”

The words science and technology can and often are used interchangeably. But the goal of science is the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake while the goal of technology is to create products that solve problems and improve human life. Most importantly, how we can do all this in a short time are because of the advancement of science and technology only. It is hard to imagine our life now without science and technology. Indeed our existence itself depends on it now. Every day new technologies are coming up which are making human life easier and more comfortable. Thus, we live in an era of science and technology.
