There will be various countries across the world having general elections, notably USA, France,and Kenya. This is the right time for women to flex their numerical muscle by voting for women! Then again, women can do what they always do: VOTE FOR MEN! This is akin to CONFUSING ACTIVITY WITH ACHIEVEMENT!Just because you vote doesn't mean you made a difference! Women FOUGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO VOTE, and I am pretty sure it wasn't so that they can vote for men and perpetuate patriarchy...!

I sometimes do have a problem with the way many religions treat women: women are not considered human enough to merit leadership positions in many religions,forget the fact that they form the bulk of the congregations.

I can flip the coin and state that it's actually women who allow religion to treat themas nobodies, albeit with a little help from ignorance. I beg to illustrate using a simple exampleof how women have changed the way things are done in Kenya.

A few years back about (15 years ago) it was inconceivable- nay, scratch that, it was actually considered a sin- for a lady to attend a PCEA church service without a head cover,and I can assure you there are all manner of justifications in the old testament. Some ladies just decided not to wear the head gear anymore, and after much struggle, it is currently the norm, bar for the woman's guild.I can assure you that the trousers are next...

My point in all this is that even those retrogressive religious and cultural norms against women can be changed if the ladies want to.

I do feel for Saudi women;I wouldn't even recommend caning to children as a way of correcting deviant behavior as it actually doesn't work. Having said that,however, why would a lady want to expose herself to the risk of the Indignity of being whipped just to get the right to drive?

I am stating this in view of the fact that some rights are not even worth the trouble. women in Kenya have the right to drive, Do you know how many women in kibera or korogocho drive? This fight for the right to drive is actually being fought for the rich ladies!

Being caned for right to vote is a bit more understandable ,because even if you are poor one can afford to vote.

The world,and indeed Kenya has lost one of it's premier leaders, the Nobelist, Prof. Wangari M Mathai.May God rest her soul in eternal Peace.

She did run for the presidency in Kenya but was unsuccessful,thanks to the fact that majority of Kenyans wouldn't recognize great if it came from heaven and hit them on the face! Being a woman in a century where even women themselves(from America to Zimbabwe) don't believe ladies can be leaders didn't do her cause a whole lot of good either.

I can't help but feel a personal loss as a Kenyan for all that would have been had we given the Great lady a chance to serve us.

I hope that her legacy in environmental and human rights fights opens everyone's eyes, and especially the ladies, to finally realize the leadership qualities inherent in each and everyone of us(male or female).

WOMEN ON THE NEW CONSTITUTION,KENYA: it's either 27(3) OR 81(b)!

27(3) of the Constitution gives the ladies in Kenya EQUALITY AND EQUAL TREATMENT in all spheres of life(read 1/2). 81(b) is trying to limit those rights to 1/3! It's time for ladies to choose which article has to be amended; one of them has to go! I will support the deletion of 81(b)

IS there any lady out there who is willing to buy into my idea that women can change the world with their vote?

It is such a pity that a century of suffrage rights for ladies in the US of A has produced little significant changes that can be emulated by women in places like Saudi Arabia or Kenya!

Article 27(3) of the Kenyan constitution states categorically that women and men are to be provided with equal opportunities,economically,socially, politically...

In effect the spirit, and the letter of the law provides that both genders are equal and that they should be treated as such in all spheres of life.

It,therefore, beggars belief that these same women-leaders are willing to plunge the country into a constitutional crisis in pursuit of a third.if the threats they are splashing around is anything to go by! I consider this the height of myopia and stupidity! And they can sue me,

Well, you would think that all those impressive statistics(44%,40%...) would mean something- you know, like, better gender relations. The explanation for the contrary scenario lies in the fact that freebies don't always have the desired effect of galvanizing action. Ladies in South Africa have not sweated for those seats, so to speak. There is no way you can convince a daughter that hard work pays, while freebies abound.

That's why I have a problem with the 2/3 rule debate in Kenya. It will just put a "ceiling" on the much ladies can achieve while they can achieve much more than a third!

Affirmative action doesn't,exactly, necessarily improve the women conditions. I would be okay with the push for 50-50 rule for nominative positions but NOT elective positions. In elective positions,voters (men and women) have equal rights coupled with equal numbers! If I can vote for a man then a lady can vote for a woman, and I don't think it would hurt her!

All those first ladies are in the limelight courtesy of their husbands. Only Michelle Bachmann is known for what she is and what she has achieved, and not necessarily because her husband happens to be a bigwig somewhere. In my books, those first ladies would qualify as "affirmative action popular figures"!

If any of them first ladies is your daughter's Role models ,then you are, in effect, telling her that the only way for her to be somebody,say ,a bigwig is to get married to a man destined to be a public figure!

It's not rocket-science to figure out who my daughter's role model would be...

For those who are uninitiated in the murky world of politics, Obama is the classic America-land-of-equal-opportunity poster boy!In him,Democrats have given the people of America the golden opportunity to walk the talk. The only way for Republicans to make Obama a one-time president is by matching the democrat's idea.Believe you me, no American is ready to be ,even remotely, associated with the term White-supremacist or racist by voting against Obama.Therefore,a white male republican candidate against Obama will end up being an also-ran.

As far as matching the democrat's idea goes,a white conservative lady perfectly fits the bill.For starters, Women have been one major 'race' that has been treated as second class citizens for so long. This is especially so in politics. By giving a woman the chance,the Republicans will be able to convince the voters that they are walking the talk of equal opportunity,albeit with a difference: gender equality.

Secondly,as evidenced by the mid-term beating the democrats received from the Tea-party conservatives, clearly this is the way to in 2012.

Thirdly,ladies pack quite a numerical punch as far as voter numbers are concerned.Following the news of the Saudi Arabia's women suffrage-rights fights, they might decide to finally make their votes count and...

Incidentally, this seems to be the season of Lady-leaders, from Thailand to Argentina...

I recently had an insightful conversation with a certain male octogenarian. He intimated that immediately he held his first born in his arms,he said just one simple prayer."God if you ever decide to take one of us(his wife or him), please let it be me".

He went right ahead to explain to me the reasoning behind this very unselfish prayer:" If my wife is taken and I am left with the kids, the kids might end up growing up as "street children".This is because chances are, I will hook up with another woman,raise her kids and neglect mine.
However, if God were to take me I could rest in peace with the assurance that my kids will do just fine.If need be, she would go out of her way to look for a man to provide for the kids".

Fortunately both of them are still alive, on their way to their late seventies.

Out of thousands of qualified people for the post of chief justice,ONLY one lady applied.All the other qualified ladies applied for the lesser,"more fitting", and "weaker" position of the deputy chief Justice.Why?

I state,without the fear of contradiction,that the ladies felt that the chief Justice is too senior and manly a position for a normal lady to execute. This weakness mentality has to END!

1. It is time to move on up past the equality debate. In fact, and as far as I can tell, ladies are more equal than men!

2. Ladies are as good leaders as (some even better than) their male counterparts! Extensive research shows that companies with many ladies in positions of decision making consistently outperform their competitors. Actually, a country without equal representation of ladies in all decision making positions is like a home without a mother!

3.We don't have a shortage of qualified lady-leaders. However, we have a severe shortage of lady voters who realize that they have the power of change in their hands.The power of Equal representation is in your hands, or rather, your vote. Vote only for lady candidates and change the world!

In most countries ladies make up over 50% registered voters. When all ladies vote for lady candidates,we will have gender equality in elective positions,thereby opening up a highway for the achievement of MDG3( Millennium Development Goal #3,ie gender equality)

Tell as many lady acquaintances (friends and enemies) as possible. Start with all those phonebook contacts,workmates,social media friends etc.

Do this for your daughter: by voting for a lady, you will give her many role models to look up to,on top of proving to her that you believe ladies are strong and capable!

In my books it doesn't sound intelligent for a lady to stand in a voting line for hours, vote for a man, and then shout at the top of her voice that "the government should empower women"!

It is time for ladies like you to change the world by empowering women with your vote!

Gender and politics: Saudi Arabia

Ladies in Saudi Arabia are up in arms over the political system's continued refusal to change and allow ladies the right to vote.It is unfortunate that at this time and age some countries still do not recognize ladies as human enough to merit the suffrage rights!
However,when all is said and done, what is the use of fighting for a right that wont change anything anyway? Even if they end up getting those suffrage rights they will still vote for men!
They can always visit Kenya or the US of A for afew lessons on confusing activity with achievement!
Then again,maybe Saudi Arabia ladies know that ladies are as good leaders(and some even better than) their male counterparts!

if I were a lady in the USA, I would join the Tea Party,like by yesterday! Following the mid term elections results, it's crystal clear that the Tea party is made up of people who are comfortable in their own skins, and don't feel threatened by the Idea of ladies in positions of power.

As far as presidential elections are concerned, she is not and will not be a female presidential candidate.She is of the same "gender" with Uhuru Kenyatta and Peter Kenneth: Kikuyu(or "Mt. Kenya Mafia"). Her being a lady is immaterial and that's why I am proposing other potential female candidates such as Ngilu,Millie,Shebesh, Shaban...

By the way, and for your information, if any of those three gets so popular as to be real Presidential contenders in 2012, a certain "project 42 minus 1" will be resuscitated and kenya will be headed '07/ 'o8 way!
