When you need a quick, simple screencast, but don’t want to bother with installing and configuring software, a new service called ScreenCastle may just be the app you’re looking for.

ScreenCastle is an extremely simple screencasting tool. ScreenCastle is so simple to use. Just visit their website, click the big red button, load the java application, decide how much of the screen you want recorded, and whether or not to include audio from your microphone.

Those are the only settings, after your settings are chosen a small black bar appears at the bottom of your screen. This is your recording control mechanism. Just push record when you’re ready to record, and move the mouse to the very top of the screen when you’re done.

If you’re not recording in full-screen mode, then you’ll have a small window which you can click on to end the recording.

Currently there is no size or length limits of screen-casts – but be aware the videos are uploaded from your computer after the recording is finished, and lengthy videos will take time to upload.

Screencasts are given unique urls to share. You can link directly to the screen-cast, download the screencast, or direct link to the file for downloading purposes.

The downside of ScreenCastle is that there’s currently no way to edit screencasts, so if you’re not happy with the results you will have to start over. Alternately you could download the file and edit it locally using video editing software. Currently ScreenCastle is completely free, and only requires a web browser with Java Script support.

I have an idea for a new business network revolving around social media, application development, and blogging.

My idea is to get some application developers, wordpress theme developers, bloggers. Start a site dedicated to coming up with new ideas for applications. Visitors will be able to submit their ideas for applications. Each idea will be submitted under the terms that we will not use any idea without compensating the person submitting an idea.

The idea came to me because there have been many times when I’ve thought of brilliant ideas for an application, or site but lacked the php knowledge to get it off the floor.

What do you think, will this idea Fly, or will it die?

Recap: Entrepreneur has idea, submits it to us, and we build the software application and bring the entrepreneur  on as a consulting member for that project.  People can also submit ideas for wordpress plugins, and themes which we might do for free or profit. All free stuff will basically be used for branding of the main service.

I gotta say I took a look at a new game that they’re developing for called Real Trophy Hunting, and I gotta say the graphics look pretty stunning.  (Check it out on I-tunes)

This isn’t an unrealistic cartoon graphic shooting game. This isn’t some cheap remake of duck hunt. This is a breathtaking trip into the Rocky mountains where you can almost smell the crisp mountain air. Packing  some major artillery you only have one goal in mind: Take down the Big One!

In Real Trophy Hunting, you can hunt for the deadly North American Grizzly Bear, you can test your tracking skills on the Great Elk, or Moose with antlers over 10 feet long.

The graphics of the game are so realistic, it’s like you’re there. Much more than one might expect from a mobile game.

There’s also a large selection of weapons to choose from, whether you’d like to try the Compound Bow, 44 Magnum, or 300 Mag Rifle, you’ll get your chance, and each gun comes fitted with a scope for long range game hunting.

This game will take you all over the Rocky mountains, you can choose from 16 different hunt stands spread out all over the West. From Colorado to Utah, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming.

You can use the camera to document your conquests, and share the photos with friends via email.

I had 26 responses to the following survey on twitter: “What time do you read your feeds the most, or see the most hits..”

My findings were both what I thought it would be, with a few twists.

I was pretty certain that Morning would be the best time of day. Other than that I wasn’t very certain.

According to my small poll, I was correct -  12 of the people polled, said they read their feeds in the early morning usually between 6-9am.

What I didn’t expect was for the second runner up to be the Night Crew(8pm – Midnight). There were 9 who reported the most activity @ Night.

Third is also a surprise, because it’s a busy time, people are coming home, spending time with families, and eating dinner. But third place is Evenings between 5pm-8pm. There were8 who chose this option.

Tieing for third was the mid morning group (9-11). 8 people also chose this option.

4th place was Afternoon (2-5pm). With 6 people.

5th Place was Noon and Late Night with 2 people. (Noon is roughly @ 12, give or take an hour); Late night is considered after Midnight.

All in all it was an interesting experiment, I think the most interesting part is that I asked a question on Twitter, and got 25 really good answers, which turned into a pretty neat blog post. Twitter really is a wonder.

Kyle Turley is Not Your Stereotypical Jock by any means!

Hooking up with cheerleaders, throwing nerds in dumpsters, barely getting by in school, lacking of any talent other than football.

These are the stereotypical images of Jocks that we see in shows like Glee.

Now I can’t vouch for depositing nerdy teens in dumpsters, but one thing is certain – Kyle Turley has broken away from this stereotype, with the release of Anger Management, his new breathtaking album launching this Tuesday. In Anger Management, Kyle Turley shows that he’s not just a boring jock with no talent beyond the football field. He’s a Jock that can ROCK!

Whether you’re a Saints fan or not, his moving song “My Soul Bleeds Black and Gold” is a striking tribute to the hard hit community that survived one of the worst natural disasters in modern memory.

Kyle Turley definitely makes an exciting new addition to the Country Rock scene joining the likes of Hank Williams Jr and many others. According to researchers at the University of California Berkley (via inhabitat),  Atrazine one of the most common used herbicides worldwide, also one of the most common water pollutants in North America, may cause perfectly healthy, normal male frogs to grow up and become fully functional reproducing females.

The pollutant has consequently been banned in Europe in 2003 after some disturbing studies linking it to prostate and breast cancer. 80 Million+ pounds of the contaminant are dumped yearly in the US every year.

If it can cause frogs to change sexes, I’m sure it has bad repercussions for human, maybe even infertility, ever watch that movie where mankind loses the ability to reproduce?

Imagine the diseases we could cure, if we just stopped polluting our own damn world!

Microsoft announces yet another security vulnerability. This one affects Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 users who use Internet Explorer.

On some sites a dialogue may pop up asking the user to press F1 (the commonly used help button), this then allows the machine to run code, which may open all kind of nasty vulnerabilities for hackers to use.

A patch will arrive shortly, but until then Don’t Call for Help.

Facebook gains a broad sweeping patent for it’s New Feed, Now Google gains same for Location Based Advertising.

Last week we found out that facebook received the patent for it’s news feed technology, which may potentially cause quite a stir among the social network stratosphere. Read more about it here, and here.

Now it seems that Google filed a patent back in 2003 for Location based advertising, which could hit hard companies like admob, who are growing whole businesses around that very technology.

“The usefulness, and consequently the performance, of advertisements are improved by allowing businesses to better target their ads to a responsive audience. Location information is determined (or simply accepted) and used. For example, location information may be used in a relevancy determination of an ad. As another example, location information may be used in an attribute (e.g., position) arbitration. Such location information may be associated with price information, such as a maximum price bid. Such location information may be associated with ad performance information. Ad performance information may be tracked on the basis of location information. The content of an ad creative, and/or of a landing page may be selected and/or modified using location information. Finally, tools, such as user interfaces, may be provided to allow a business to enter and/or modify location information, such as location information used for targeting and location-dependent price information. The location information used to target and/or score ads may be, include, or define an area. The area may be defined by at least one geographic reference point (e.g., defined by latitude and longitude coordinates) and perhaps additional information. Thus, the area may be a circle defined by a geographic reference point and a radius, an ellipse defined by two geographic reference points and a distance sum, or a polygon defined by three or more geographic reference points, for example.”

This is all great and well for Google, but what does it mean for progress? Are patents becoming a hinderance to progress? For a company so focused on ‘open source’ i find it funny that when it comes to technology it’s about creating a closed bubble, and stunting progress. More at.. (Mashable, and VentureBeat).

This graphic from Pingdom (via Rotorblog), shows how Google was once a lowly start-up in a Yahoo world. Now look at our little Google, all grown up..well a teenager at any rate.  It goes to show how a company with a real vision can truly climb to the heights of success,  just look how Google has grown since it opened back in 1998.  I’m excited to see what the next ten years will be like on the internet.

Speaking of growing up, you should check out this video of Eric Schmidt Google’s Ceo, nearly 12 years before Google, it’s definitely an eye opener! What a Nerd!

Seriously though, to all you nerds out there in high school, getting teased because of your pocket protectors, just think of poor little Eric Schmidt the CEO of Google, and just remember that someday you will be their bosses, and call the shots. This is a video of Eric Schmidt back in 1986, before Google was even a twinkle in Sergey Brin’s eye..This isn’t new, but definitely is new to me, and I think it’s funny to watch, but then I loved the Nerds movies of the 1980’s.

But don’t worry, he overcame his coyness, and became the giant ceo of Google that we all know and love. Check him out two years later:

White Castle Chieftain bites off more than he can chew in tonight’s episode of Undercover Boss.

I just found out about this awesome show on CBS – Undercover Boss. Tonight’s episode followed White Castle owner Dave Rife as he hobnobbed with the lowly worker bees in White Castle restaurants, bakeries, and factories in and around the Midwest.

The hour long episode of Undercover Boss, helps the company’s owners literally go undercover to see what may need improving in the 88 year old White Castle chain.

The chief, or should I say King of White Castle started out in a restaurant in Hamilton, OH. His first trip he discovered had too many managers and employees for one shift, causing confusion among staff members. The White Castle king was touched by the story of Donna who had survived having a heart attack, and a husband who’s on disability.

Next on the agenda was a bakery in Wisconsin, where David Rife, was rife with troubles over the bagging of White Castle buns, single-handedly destroying over 4800 of them, but don’t worry they were repurposed as pig slop.

Then Mr. Rife, finds himself in Covington, Kentucky, where he discovered the security cameras, at one 24/7 store are watching the employees every move, causing some to be a little paranoid about their job performance, sounds like something out of an Orsen Wells book…oh wait he did write a book like that.

Tina, the assistant manager went so far as to confide and voice her concerns that she might be fired, or was afraid of getting fired, especially in the current economy. David Rife, found out just how hard the night shift at White Castle really is, as he not-so-deftly handled the drive-thru himself. This is where he met Joe, one of the more competent, friendly employees who actually made the shift run a lot smoother than it would’ve otherwise.

At a White Castle in Chicago, 17 year old Jose shared some of his special sauce creations with the big honcho, these are what he puts on his sandwiches during break time, and Rife came to find out that they were very tasty.

While back in Covington, Kentucky the big boss found a few White Castle employee bickering between a manager (Brenda), and an employee (Vicky) over the lack of help from the managers when work backs up.

At the end of the show came some nice rewards for some of the lucky employees, and some admonitions for others.

Jose, the sauce-master from Chicago was introduced to the culinary team of White Castle, and given a $5,000 scholarship to a College of his choice. Joe, who’s son is visually impaired was told he could help write curriculum for the Leaders of Tomorrow program and was given $5,000 for his son. However, Brenda and Vicky were censured to build a better team work environment at their work place, and to make compromises.

The White House owner then decided to help Donna, by having her help him create a nutritional program for White Castle. Anyone who’s ever eaten at White Castle, knows that one burger is never nearly enough, (Take the Parody Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, where they each gorged on huge amounts of the little tiny burgers). This fact makes it kinda hypocritical that the owner finds joy selling a product that makes people fatter, when he himself overcame a weight problem losing a hundred pounds. But maybe they can roll out a line of healthier choices after all, it’s not so bad to sell junk food if people have a choice to choose something healthier, or is it?

Regarding Undercover Boss, I think this show is a great perspective changer, it’s nice to see the big dogs at companies like White Castle lower themselves and see what the workers go through on a regular basis, maybe they’ll appreciate their success a little more, and work a little harder at making the work place a better place to work.

Over a year ago I was doing a lot of blog posts relative to google trends, and oddly enough one of those trends was about the Humming Bird Sex Position, to this day, it is still one of my top keywords, that and my blog post on how some porn company was taking advantage of Sarah Palin’s name to make a buck with a film called Nailin’ Paylin.

These two keywords continually are two of my top keywords, until now I haven’t done anything with them, they’re not really relevant to what my blog is really about, or are they?

My blog is about making money blogging, or in social media.  It’s about being successful in seo, and other aspects of the web. So how can one take advantage of posts like these that don’t sseem to belong, but bring in traffic nonetheless? Give your readers what they want. If someone surfs in looking for the Hummingbird Sex Position, give it to them – find a product that is likely to fulfill their need.

Example – I hopped on over to Clickbank, found a product called 500 Love Making Tips, I’m sure if they don’t have the hummingbird in their product, then they’ll at least have a plethora of information that the surfer can use, and I’ll have made a few extra bucks!

So as you can see, if you know what keywords people are coming from, you can go back and breathe life into new blog posts by adding affiliate products that match your top keywords. This is just one way increase your bottom line, I’m not expecting to make much off the new affiliate link, but possibly an extra $20-30 a month based on the amount of traffic the keywords bring in..

I haven’t found a monetization strategy for the Sarah Palin post yet, as this is a family blog, and I definitely do not want to link out to porn sites, its just not my thing, where as the product for the Hummingbird Sex Position keyword isn’t a link to porn, but an e-book to help couples be more intimate together.

I was reading a blog post today from Chris Brogan about how we need to stop talking about ourselves… It seems with all of this social media excitement comes a price, everyone not only wants to be, but now thinks that they are a star. Twitter can breed a bit of egotism, I mean when you’re constantly updating people with what you’re doing, and pretending that they actually give a crap, that you’re literally taking a crap.

Instead, as Chris put it, we need to be more self-less in our writing, our blogging, and our tweeting, and other updates. Talk about others, lift others up, and they will return the favor. Let’s all stop thinking about ourselves, and start talking about the other guy. I must say that I am as guilty as anyone with regards to this, and I apologize, and am going to try to turn over a new leaf, and write more blog posts that are not self centered.

Things change, people change, people change careers, the web is an ever changing monster…

In my quest for my self, and what I want to do with the rest of my life, I have decided that my next step is to learn programming. Having yet to complete a college degree, I feel that this is one that can benefit me and be something I can parlay into many different opportunities.

As I return to school this spring, and embark on my studies into Computer Programming, you can bet you will see this blog cover a lot more technical issues, and projects. My main interests lie in social media, web apps, and mobile apps. I feel that the mobile web, is the future of the internet, of business, of the way we live our lives. I’m also hoping to work on programming some wordpress plugins as well, as I learn more.

Just thought I’d update y’all on what’s up with this blog. You can also expect a lot more updates, I know I’ve taken some time off, and haven’t been nearly as dedicated to this blog as I should – but google just beefed up my pagerank to a 4, and I’m ready to ROCK!

The internet is now coming of age, and the next decade will be an amazing one. I’m truly excited, I already know some programming, namely a small bit of php, python, and I watched a few videos on java programming, and I can honestly say I can’t wait to get my feet wet.

For the past few months I have owned my own business. A brick and mortar pizzeria business. The business ultimately was not successful, it’s a long story but we were told when we purchased the business that we it was averaging about $1000 more a week than it really was, however it was successful in that I learned many lessons from running the business, on how to integrate social media into a brick and mortar business.

The best way to get people to visit your store, website, whatever, is to find people who tweet about those things that you sell.

For instance, I sold pizza, wings, and hoagies primarily. Each day I would do a search on Twitter that would look like this:

pizza near:dayton,oh within:10mi

Now what this does it will find tweets about pizza, within 10 miles of Dayton, Oh. Dayton, being the location where my store was located, I had no desire to find people who lived too far to visit my store. From this I was able to get a large following, an article in the Dayton Daily News, and about 5-10 new customers per week from twitter alone.

Was it a success? You bet it was!

This is just one great way to build your business and find like-minded people via Twitter. Stay tuned for more great methods of building your business via twitter and other social networks.

For a year or two I had a love affair with Twitter, then I decided we needed some time apart, and Twitter cops an attitude and suspends my account. How rude, can you be?!

I have been a very active twitterer, I have worked some w/ the api, and I have wrote many blog posts regarding twitter. In July I decided to take some time off from social media, and blogging, and twittering. We just bought a house and with a new house comes a lot of responsibility, and it’s not like August is a huge blogging month anyways.

During August and September my wife also had to undergo a bunch of medical tests, even into October. She’s almost got cancer, is what they tell her, she has cells that are almost to cancer stage, and other issues in life have kept me busy as well, so I just haven’t logged in – at all hardly.

Then one day I login to my facebook and saw some weird links posted that I would never post, and they showed up on friendfeed too, apparently one of the plethora of twitter apps i’ve tried out, had either been hacked, or sold, or used maliciously to send spam-like messages.

It even says on the messages that they were sent from the API. Now sure, I made a mistake of not changing my password more frequently, but does that warrant a full suspension? For 3 twitter posts, that I myself did not post?

I have a lot of other worries in my life, and this is hardly the hugest, my wife’s health is my biggest concern, but when I submit tickets, and email twitter, I get basically a letter saying we’re looking into it, or something along those lines, then 2 weeks later it says your issue has been solved, or closed – but no followup emails have ever been sent to me, my account has not been reinstated, and I have yet to get a response from a live person.

Now the three top posts, are obviously not mine, and if you know me at all you would know that I wouldn’t post that. The most recent post I posted was about healthcare, then the post before that was back in July.

Other than this I cannot think of a reason my account has been suspended.

So on my vacation / hiatus since my last substantive blog post. I have come across a game called Evony.

Evony: Age I is totally free to play, it’s fun, and very addictive. It’s similar to Age of Empires and the Civilization game series.

The premise of the game is about building cities, gathering resources, building troops, forming alliances and conquoring the world.

Joining alliances with other players is a great way to network with other people, and help each other to become the strongest players on evony.

Evony: Age I, is a game of pure strategy, and very unlike most other online browser mmorpgs.

Where other games have pause buttons, and let your character out of the game. Evony: Age I is a 24/7 world that never shuts down, and never sleeps(you may find yourself never sleeping either lol)

In Evony: Age I you may sign out, you may leave for awhile, but you can be attacked at any time. Your soldiers can attack while you’re away, you can be building more soldiers while you sleep, and your farms continue to bring in resources, and you can set up your academy to research new technologies. Unlike other games where your character disappears from game-play while you’re offline.

Evony is a game about managing your own city, becoming part of a team via an alliance, and learning the most strategic, productive way to conquor other players, and NPCs.

Word of Caution:  Evony is probably one of the most addictive games you will ever play. Therefore be forewarned, you may find yourself dreaming about Evony, planning your future attacks during dinner, or while at work.

It takes a lot of will power to leave the game, and a lot of mind power to be good at it.

Evony: Age I, is browser-based so there’s no need to download anything. It’s also free to join and play, there are items you can buy but they are optional and I’ve had fun without putting out any money. If you’ve ever played Civilzation, it is very similar in structure and gameplay. If you have some free time to kill, and are looking to meet some fun people, and like mmorpgs then Evony may be for you.

This is just a heads up to let you know what’s been goin’ on in my life lately.

First off I took a little break / hiatus from web life to spend time with my wife. Not really a vacation but a homecation.

Secondly we are moving into our first house soon and have been working on sealing the deal there, and packing and such – very fun stuff..well not really lol.

Don’t worry though, on Monday I’ll be backup – my internet will be on at the new house and I will be firing away blog posts on social media left and right.
