We would like to thank Leonard Van Gelder for taking the past few weeks to test and evaluate our shoulder rehab tool – the Rotater. Leonard Van Gelder is the blogger behind Dynamic Principles and is:

Here is an excerpt from Leonard’s review:

Overall, the beauty of the Rotater is in its simplicity, it does its intended job very well. I commend the team over at Joint Mechanix for putting the Rotater together without an orthopedic rehab background!

Dan notes several things about the Rotater shoulder stretching tool in this video:

Shoulder Stretching Safety – it’s safer for an athlete to stretch himself / herself than to rely on a fellow athlete.

Immediate Feedback – the athlete feels the stretch

Although an excellent shoulder stretching tool for external rotation, most baseball players don’t need more external rotation

The Rotater shoulder stretching tool is great for stretching a pitcher’s internal rotation

Different than the sleeper stretch .. the pitching arm is in a more natural throwing motion

The Rotater is lightweight, sturdy and easy to take with you

Shoulder exercises can get boring. Every time you push or pull a weight, you’re performing a shoulder exercise. Booooring !!! So sometimes, I like to try something different … add some functionality to my shoulder workout. Here’s a shoulder exercise I began doing recently. It’s a plyometric shoulder exercise and works your shoulders both concentrically and eccentrically.

Shoulder Exercise – Overhead Medicine Ball Pass

Click here to view the embedded video.

It’s very simple:

hold a medicine ball in one hand

laterally raise the arm holding the ball and toss the ball overhead

reach above your head with your empty hand and catch the ball

when you’ve stopped the balls momentum, repeat by throwing the ball back overhead

10 reps with each arm will make your shoulders tired.

Here are a few things to consider when doing this shoulder exercise:

start with a light medicine ball (I used a 12lb ball in the video and it’s a good shoulder workout)

it may make your biceps sore – I think it’s a result of catching the ball with your biceps in an extended position

it’s a great exercise for hand – eye coordination

Give the Overhead Medicine Ball Pass a try and let me know what you think. If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it.

Florida Chiropractic Show is Successful

The FCA conference was a great success for the Rotater. Interest in the Rotater was very good and sales were great. While we were there, one of the attendees asked me if we knew Dr. Enrico Esposito at the United States Sports Academy and that we should contact him about the Rotater.

So we contacted Dr. Esposito and asked him if he would like to put the Rotater to the test. After checking out our website and videos, he gave me a shipping address and we put his Rotater package on the way.

After using the Rotater since Sept. 2011, Dr. Esposito contacted me last week and said he was sending us a letter of recommendation on his letterhead. Click this link to see the actual letter.

In his words:

To Whom It May Concern,

The Rotator is an outstanding tool for both, sport performance training and the rehabilitation of the shoulder. There comes a time in life when the creativity of a few – helps the many. This is what Joint Mechanix, LLC has done. The Rotator will help to maximize shoulder performance for many athletes and patients – providing the intricate balance between the science and the art of conditioning and reconditioning of an athlete/patient that is so imperative for a successful outcome.

The Rotator can help to maximize strength, flexibility and range of motion utilizing the sciences based upon the structure and function of the body. It takes the science of biomechanics and utilizes proper angles and forces to promote the art of correct functional movements around the joint so that ligaments, tendons, and muscles can synergistically apply themselves to a better movement.

The Rotator takes the place of expensive machines – being so portable and user friendly. It is safe – due to the capability of the user to always be in control of the angles and forces that are being applied. All these reasons make The Rotator the perfect tool to increase compliance with all home-based training and rehabilitation programs.

I recommend that every athlete have access to The Rotator. No throwing athlete should be without one.

Yours in Sport,

Dr. Enrico N. Esposito

Enrico N. Esposito, DC, BA, EMT, MSS, ATC, CSCS

We’d like to thank Dr. Esposito for taking the time to evaluate the Rotater and provide this feedback. If you have questions about the Rotater please contact us – call, email or fax – click here for details.
