So the Padres dumped Scott Hairston for Craig Italiano, Ryan Webb, and PTBNL.

I think dumped is the appropriate word to use here. Hairston was probably playing over his head, but thats why you sell when his stock is high, but you have to get someone to pay high. It seems the Padres settled for mediocrity here. Maybe one of these two pitchers can become something decent in Petco, but it seems to me that they low-balled Hairston's value.

Giants Interested in Freddy Sanchez

Has anyone played this one yet? I'm not big into buying games these days, but I'm toying with picking up a copy for my 360 for the nostalgia of my love for the movies and cartoons as a kid. Anyone try it? Worth it?

Do the Brewers Need a Pitcher?

The Brewers have been leading the division up until the past couple of days. Their offense has done well, but the pitching seems over matched.

Aside from Gallardo, no one who has started a game this year has an ERA under 4.59. Again, after the ace, the K/BB ratio of the rotation has been abyssmal.

It seems the Brewers need to find someone to pick things up before they get toss from the race. In other years, you might be able to survive, but with four teams up there not to mention perennial second half contenders in the Houston Astros, you have to get someone.

I don't think they need a C.C. Sabathia, but someone that pitches up to the standards of a #2/3 seems required. Even another division title would seem like it would lead immediately to a first round playoff loss with this pitching.

Dani Pedrosa (Honda) won a close race over Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) in the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca. Americans Nicky Hayden (Ducati) and Colin Edwards (Yamaha) had decent races, finishing 5th and 7th, but nothing like 2005 when they finished 1 and 2.

Brian McCann to St. Louis for All-Star Game

The Braves use to send players by the handful to the All-Star Game. This year, it's down to Brian McCann who earned the ticket based more so on a weak field of catchers this year.

At least my take on it is based more so on that.

Josh Johnson an All-Star

Josh Johnson was selected as an All-Star for the NL, being the lone Marlins player selected. Johnson could be in route to a Cy Young campaign this year being the one successful pitcher on a Marlins staff that is making a run at the division.

Manuel Brings Three of His Own to St. Louis

Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez are both voted in as starters. Utley wins his fourth in a row which isn't surprising given his dominance as a hitter for a second baseman. Ibanez of course had his big hot streak this first half before getting hurt. It will be interested to see if that continues.

Ryan Howard was selected a s a reserve first baseman. Interesting because there are three reserve first basemen that Charlie Manuel brought with him, and none are the type that you can simply plug in the outfield really.

Four Mets Selected for the All-Star Game

Despite all the injuries, despire all the problems, only the Boston Red Sox had more players selected for the All-Star game. Two players were voted on as starters, including third baseman David Wright who currently leads the NL in hitting. Centerfielder Carlos Beltran was as well but due to injury won't actually be playing this year.

Two pitchers were also selected due to their early dominance this season, starter Johan Santana and closer Francisco Rodriguez.

2009 College Draft Status

Reader here in ACC Country (North Carolina) and I know the M's recently drafted Dustin Ackley as the No 2 pick, Kyle Seager and Brian Moran (all from UNC TarHeels) and Jimmy Gilheeney from NC State. To date there has been nothing in the Raleigh (NC) paper about their status and/or signings. Anyone in the know know what is happening?
