Really? This is an interesting development in SEO in that it is now advantageous not to have certain links, thats all well and good but some web directories want you to pay for the privilege of removing them! Yikes!

Google+ Ranking Factors in SPY

Google SPY Results for a Google search on SEO

The main takeaway from the report is that +1's not surprisingly matter a lot, but Ian went into great detail to analyze what really matters.

The research was split into two parts, 1) Asking a field of respected SEOs their opinions on Google+ and its ranking criteria and 2) Conducting analysis based on the initial thoughts.

One of the more surprising things discovered in this research is that the content in the about section of your Google+ profile doesn't have a significant effect on where your Google+ pages will rank in Search Plus Your World (SPY).

The frequency of posting has an effect but generally makes way the number of people in the circles.

So from Ian's research we can conclude the following factors and order of importance with respect to Google+ and SPY results

Number of people in your Circles
Comment Frequency
Post Frequency

Inbound.org a new SEO "Hacker" Style Site

A new SEO site called Inbound.org launched this week. Its a sort of hacker style SEO / general on-line marketing news and information site that shares the latest blogs and articles relevant to the on-line marketing world. What I really like about this site is the way that it embodies and embraces the growing and evolving world of social media and the way people share information in on-line communities nowadays.

It has been started by Rand from SEO Moz and Dharmesh from Hubspot. Both SEO Moz and Hubspot are excellent resources for SEO news and information and Inbound.org is yet to be another success (I am sure) from these guys.

I know I will be actively watching this site for information.

Google to Introduce +1 Button to AdSense Ads

Google plan to add a the +1 button to AdSense adds to allow you users to endorse specific adds.

This move makes sense and is somewhat of an inevitability ad it pushes Google's +1 (Plus one) service and fits in-line with their mission statement to organize the worlds information. This will likely add a further metric to the AdWords quality score.

It does seem possible that there may be ways to artificially manipulate this and no doubt it will entail a new cat and mouse game of some web masters trying various tricks to artificially Improve their quality score or AdSense publishers trying to +1 the higher paying adds.

Never the less, this is what Google do best and it seems that they have just made another way to make web search and advertising even more effective and targeted! Well done Google!

To Submit or not to submit

The question of web site submission is something that faces any new site and new web masters. On the face of it, web site submission seems a simple topic. You think, I just submit my site to Google and be done with it right, and thats it.

But then you read up more about it, or more than likely get contacted or emailed about some auto submission software and you start to think, hmmm this sounds like a good idea and they are promising lots of traffic and higher search engine rankings - so why shouldn't I do this?

What does search engine submission really mean?

Thats a good question and we need to address this and how search engines work before we delve into the best method of submission. OK, so first of all, when you submit to a search engine you are just knocking on the door and saying "Hey I have got a web site here, come check it out - and please list me!". What the search engine does is come and visit your site and will likely list it in its index.

Do I need to submit my site?

Another good question! And the answer is well not really. All you need is a link on the web somewhere on a page that is already listed in the search engines and you will get indexed. It certainly does not hurt to submit to a search engine but essentially all you need to get indexed is a single link.

Automated Search Engine Submission Software

There are many different Automated Search Engine Submission Software programs out there that claim the earth and promise to 1) submit your site to 100's or 1000's of search engines and 2) to automatically submit every day or week in order to ensure your site stands more of a chance of ranking.
This is simply not necessary. Bear in mind that a search engine only needs one copy of your site to put into its index (this is referred to as its cache of your site). It then ranks your site based on its cached data against its indexing algorithm.
