Brain Age (Nintendo DS): Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day is a fun, rewarding form of entertainment everyone can enjoy. Inspired by cutting-edge neuroscience, it's a full set of reading and mathematic exercises that stimulate the brain. At the start, you'll take a series of tests and get a score that determines how old your brain is. This is your "Brain Age" -- by performing daily exercises just minutes a day over weeks and months, the better you'll get and the lower your Brain Age will get.

The primary objective of Brain Age is to "exercise your brain". This is done through doing activities that are designed to stimulate your prefrontal cortex, which is the part of your brain that influences how you apply what you've learnt (whatever). It's believed that doing these activities on a regular basis will have a positive effect on your brain. Whether or not this holds any truth, I'm not sure. But with 15 activities to choose from, at least the game can keep you occupied for quite a while, even though some of these activities are less desirable to do than others.

Some of these activities include a calculation game, which puts you through a series of simple mathematical problems. 2+6, anyone? Or 8x7, for that matter? Well, you get the picture. The idea is basically to get the brain to start thinking quickly with a succession of simple questions, instead of forcing the player to spend too much time dwelling on one. There're different variations of this calculation module, but the underlying gameplay doesn't divert from the idea of rapidly solving a problem.

Reading aloud is another activity in Brain Age. Obviously, this makes use of the DS' mic, and it basically requires you to read through an article as quickly as possible. While you may have problems pronouncing words like "epoch", you can actually breeze through this activity by simply bulldozing through without pronouncing the words properly. Just remember to wipe the saliva off your DS screens. Syllables counting is another mini-game on Brain Age. This one requires you to count the number of syllables in a short sentence, and then write the answer down on the touch screen. If you're not exactly sure about what is a "syllable", just remember that the word "syllable" itself has three syllables, and you should be fine. It's cool game anyway. Nintendogs Labrador Retriever & Friends (Nintendo DS), is the latest answer to virtual pets. The game features a variety of loveable dogs that you can make them do tricks, roll over, and chase their tails. The dogs are virtually adorable and have the unique appeal you'd see dogs have in any pet store. The graphics in the game really do come out very well, within each detail of all of the canines, while the music might be cutesy and sometimes too annoying. The control for all of the editions is very simple to maintain within the stylus, and definitely can be maintained simply with the turn of the hand. With each dog, you can also get special treats like collars, and pet toys and make them do special tricks for more funds as well.

Nintendogs is a great game for all Nintendo DS owners young and old, and for those who want a dog, but just simply can't afford it.

Walks
You can take your pup on a walk all over "town". Basically, you can see a map of the "town" and you can drag your stylus around the streets to get to where you desire. Aim to hit the little blue boxes that have a question mark on them as those will be your special events.

Special Events and Destinations
Of course on walks you will have areas and events to do. Aim for the blue "?" boxes like I mentioned earlier, and you can either:

1.) Have your dog stop and see another dog
2.) Have your dog get a present for you

However, it is random. As for destinations, you can go to one of two discount shops where you can buy food, supplies and toys at a discounted price, go to one of two parks, and go to an Agility Training arena to practice for the competition.

Competitions
There are three competitions, agility (obstacle course), frisbee and Training (have dog perform tricks). Beat the current first place person's score to win first! You can either get first (most prize cash), second (middle prize cash), or third (not too much cash) or not a place (no cash). Win first to move up to the next level of the competition. Note: three plays per day.

Bathing and Feeding
You will bathe and feed your dogs. Make sure to stock up on that kind of supplies, cleaning supplies every other day, and food and water everyday.

Last but not least, its your GAME. Your dogs will know it's you! The built in microphone will pick up your voice as you name your dog with your voice, and train it with your voice. Pokemon Diamond (Nintendo DS) is a traditional Pokemon RPG that takes place in a region called Sinnoh.

In the Sinnoh region, there are two Pokemon that symbolize the region. They appear in the Sinnoh reigon's myths and old folklore. One is called Dialga, and is said to have the power to control time. The other is called Palkia, who is said to have the ability to distort space. The sinister organization called Team Galaxy is trying to rule the region by utilizing these two Pokemon's power. During your adventure to complete your Pokedex and become the Champion, these two Pokemon, and Team Galaxy, will intertwine into the story and lead you on a fantastic journey across the Sinnoh region.

When you set off on your travels, you'll be able to play as either a boy or girl Trainer. You will also utilize the DS's dual slots to transfer Pokemon from the GBA Pokemon games and be able to link up with Pokemon Ranger to access more special content. Pokemon fans have caught glimpses of Mime Jr., Lucario, Munchlax and Weavile in Pokemon movies, and these Pokemon will be debuting in this adventure.

After countless spin offs the real deal is here: Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The Pokemon craze has been around for years. Ever since the Red and Blue versions hit way back, Pokemon has been huge. It's tried and true formula has worked for over ten years, and it's pretty apparent that the formula isn't going to die now. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are a lot like the Pokemon games that preceded it, but they've really thrown in some good touches here. Still, most players who've been playing since the Gameboy days, or even as recent as the GBA days will still get a "been there, done that," feeling. Still, the game is good, addictive and it will keep you busy for hours on end.

There's a paper/rock/scissors effect here. Each and every Pokemon has a type, and some of the attacks they use reflect its type. This makes up what deals massive damage, what deals no damage and what deals just normal damage. Grass may be strong against water, for example but grass is also weak against fire, but in turn, fire is weak versus water. This effect plays through with seventeen and different types, and there is no best type because every type has a weakness.

It's because of this element that Pokemon is so much fun to play. Just trying to construct the perfect team will take you more than a day, and with over 100 new creatures to collect, you can form endless amounts of teams. Just catching all the Pokemon alone will keep you busy for well over 50 hours. To add to the effect you'll face several other trainers as well, and you never know what they'll throw at you. Test Drive Unlimited: The real star of this game is the island of Oahu. The whole thing, with terrain and streets modeled down to the meter. Mountain passes, ocean drives, back streets, it's all there. You can even refer to online maps to find your way around the virtual version. There's plenty of eye candy for the sightseer. Lush forests, beaches, rock formations, plantations, private homes, and just enough traffic to make it feel populated. It's surprisingly fun to just pick a luxury car and go for a Sunday drive. And it's not even wasted time, because you get achievements for exploration.

Of course, nearly every mile of roadway is incorporated into one of the pre-planned races and missions, so you will see most of the sights just playing those through. One race in particular takes a 118 mile loop around the entire island. And racing and completing time trials earns money that can be used to buy more cars and homes to store them in.

The selection of vehicles is disappointing, no doubt due to licensing issues. There are plenty of supercars, and the American major manufacturers are all well-represented, but there are no Japanese brands besides Nissan, which only offers two versions of the 350Z. BMW and Porsche are also missing. Customization is limited to a choice of wheels, paint, and pre-set performance levels. As a result, the cars all feel somewhat interchangeable, with little reason to pick one high-downforce, 200MPH+ monster over another.

The cars that made it into the game are nicely modeled, however, and some of the older models do have some character. The option to set seat position for the inside view is a nice touch that makes it feel more realistic. The physics model seems decent, especially with the traction control turned off.

I doubt I'll end up buying every car in the game, but I may pick up the achievement for exploring the entire island. And if I really need to take a Porsche through Kolekole Pass, I might just have to book a trip to Hawaii and do it for real. Get your own Test Drive Unlimited (Xbox 360) now! The good part about Civilzation 4, in general, is its classically addictive nature as are most of Sid Meier's games. Building up your own civilization as other civilizations are trying to do the same is quite intruiging and fun. It is a great concept, and the playability is certainly endless. A very cool bonus feature is the inclusion of Wi-Fi, so you can play other players online. Great add on but make sure your opponent has a good connection otherwise the game play becomes very sluggish and you could lose connection. Other then that, great new feature!

Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (Xbox)

Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (Xbox) is an action-adventure game that continues the story of Jack Skellington and his arch-nemesis, Oogie Boogie. Players take on the role of Jack, who must battle bizarre and vicious enemies in order to stop the diabolical Oogie Boogie from kidnapping the leaders of all the Holidays and establishing himself as king. Armed with the amazing "Soul Robber" and the ability to transform into other forms, Jack will have to use everything at his disposal to defeat this evil plan.

Hollywood quality music and voice casting from the film create a truly cinematic experience. The animation is really great. Though it is obviously computer generated graphics, it looks like the same stop motion models in the movie. It really makes you feel like you are in the movie. There is one level where the scenery is completely black and white. This totally reminds me of something out of an Edward Gorey book (a big influence of Tim Burton). It was an awesome level to play.

The story is really creative and cute. Before playing the game, the expectations weren't that high. However, they did a great job with the storyline. The writers for the game stayed so true to the `feel' of the movie. They totally captured the same essence. Basically, Jack leaves Halloween Town for a while and when he comes back the town is abandoned. It turns out that when he was gone, Lock, Shock and Barrel helped revive Oogy. Oogy then developes a plan to take over all the holidays. It is up to Jack to stop him from messing up all of the holidays, armed pretty much only with his Soul Robber (a weapon that Dr Feinkelstein gave him).

The Soul Robber is fun but a tad disappointing. It feel like there was little skill and planning involved in using it. It is found that little use for the pumpkin Jack and Santa Jack aside from burning barricades and getting ghosts out of barrels.

Not only do you kill a lot of mobs, but there are puzzles and secret areas in the game. Viewing the movie actually does payoff as there is a bit of trivia from Corps Kid that pays you some money.

The camera angels were fixed so you didn't have a lot of free reign to look around. This took some getting used to at first, but was fine once you did. The controls were pretty simple for the most part. It didn't take very long to get used to them at all.

The music throughout the game is all from the movie. You will love the music from the movie so naturally like hearing it in the game, but you do hear it repetitively while playing, so it will get stuck in your head when you're not playing it. Just like the movie, singing plays a large role in the game. In fact, it even plays a role while fighting. If you collect enough musical notes while fighting a boss, then you go into this sort of bonus fighting mode. The voice acting was superb as well. They got several of the original voice actors from the movie; and the ones that were not from the movie sound very close to the originals. Winter Sports The Ultimate Challenge: The first Winter Sports title on the Nintendo Wii is a very solid one, especially at the budget price.

Winter Sports 2008 The Ultimate Challenge is the comprehensively improved sequel to last year's winter hit RTL Winter Games 2007. The arcade-oriented winter sports compilation comprises the 15 most popular disciplines spanning 9 exciting sports. 42 missions with final boss rivals recreate the atmosphere of a magnificent international winter sports event in the brand new single player campaign mode, not least owing to the stirring opening ceremony and the final presentation ceremony. The hot seat (4 players) and split screen (2 players) modes feature multiple tournament options and a gripping multiplayer experience as players compete for record times and gold medals.

The presentation is very solid. The game runs with a widescreen mode, has smooth graphics, and good sound. In addition to the in-game music, there are two witty European commentators that provide some interesting and funny banter. There is a very neat opening ceremony, and medal ceremonies complete with national anthems. Load times are minimal, and bugs are non present.

There are over fifteen events in nearly every Winter Olympic discipline. There are two varieties of Speed Skating, several varieties of Skiing, Skeleton, Luge, Bobsleigh, Figure Skating, and Curling. The majority of the events controls very well and provides intelligent and innovative uses of the Wii remote and Nunchuck. With the sliding sports, for example, while on the track you hold the remote in the Steering Wheel fashion. With Figure Skating, you use the remote and Nunchuck like in a rhythm game, very similar to the method used in the Wii version of "Dancing With the Stars." Sadly, the controls for Curling seem to be broken or, at the least, extremely difficult to use. But, all of the other events control very well.

The game has a skill-building career mode, 4-player multiplayer, single event play and traditional tournament modes.
