My best friend moved to Austin last month and loves it. I have been trying for a couple weeks to make it up to see her new place and was finally able to this weekend. It is fabulous! She is living in a two bedroom apartment, so she has a wonderful guestroom. I was very thankful for the guestroom because I had my own space and bathroom. The kitchen is fabulous. It is so much better than the kitchen in my house that I am a little jealous of her. She has Austin HD TV installed in the living room with a huge big screen television. She even has a walk-in pantry. I have always wanted a walk-in pantry. When I first moved into my house, I didn’t even think to look at the pantry space. At the time, it didn’t seem important. Now I realize that a lot of pantry space helps to make your kitchen a lot cleaner. Nonetheless, I had a wonderful time and was finally able to have some quality time with her. She is such a wonderful person and I am lucky to have a friend like her.

I love to watch direct tv movies. Sometimes on Saturdays I like to just relax. I get up at the usual time, eat breakfast, drink coffee, but will lie in bed until past noon. I love to watch movies. I will watch whatever is on usually, but I do have my favorite genres. I think that I can sum up my two favorites. The overall umbrella is romantic comedies/ fun movies. My favorites are some from the 1960s. They are just good, clean, and simple romance stories. There is no curse and nothing terribly inappropriate. The other bunch of movies that I really like is 1980’s romance movies. I like the Rat Pack, but I also really like Michael J. Fox. When those type of movies come on Saturday mornings, I am one happy girl. Sometimes I will get to watch to in the morning. I look forward to just relaxing on Saturdays. I really like Saturdays when my husband is off of work and he can watch movies and snuggle in the bed too!

I didn’t know what to do when Lucky, my golden retriever, came down with a bad case of mange a few years back. I thought after the dozen trips to the vet it was all cleared up but earlier this year wouldn’t you know it she got it again and I was stuck. She told me just what to do for Lucky this time around and wouldn’t you know it, it worked! She’s feeling better than she ever has before and I don’t feel as guilty for having a horribly sick dog. Lucky is a handful but she’s MY handful and when she’s sick I feel like a mother or something, scrambling to make her feel better. I really do feel her pain!

I have several friends and family members in the nursing industry and they are all required to wear scrubs. As a matter of fact, two of my three step-sisters recently went into the nursing industry and wear scrubs. I see several stores for scrubs for women, but what about the guys? I don’t think I’ve ever noticed a pair of male scrubs in-store anywhere before. Not even one pair. Yet I’ve seen all sorts for us gals.

So what do the guys do? Are there specialty scrub stores that they have to go to? And wouldn’t those stores cost twice as much? By looking online for discount medical scrubs, guys can find fashion scrubs as well as solid colors. I think in the pediatric field, especially,  fashion scrubs would probably go over very well. Cartoon characters would help the children be at ease in a somewhat scary atmosphere.  Characters that the kids know and love would give them something else to focus on during medical procedures and would help break the ice a little.

*Support Groups – Aging and Disability services can connect you to a local support group for caregivers; these groups can provide you with connections and give you tips on managing your role as a caregiver.

*Home Cares – They may cost you money out of pocket but a home care can be a great source of support and respite. They can provide check-ins for your loved one and also be helpful with relieving you of giving personal cares such as bathing for your parent.

*Adult Day Programs – Take a tour of a program and you will see the many benefits of having a parent involved in a day program. They provide meals, socialization, medication passing, activities and often bathing.

*Geriatric Practitioners – More clinics are specializing in care for seniors. Geriatricians are physicians that specialize in working with the elderly. Finding a physician for your parent that knows the special needs of the aging population will provide a great resource for you.

*Assisted Livings and Care Centers – When it is not possible for your loved one to live at home alone, looking into an alternative living situation may be necessary. Tour some in your area prior to needing one. This way you can assess which ones you would like best without being in the “crisis mode” of needing one. You can usually take a tour at anytime but calling ahead to schedule one is best.

*Respite Care – Many care centers offer a “short stay” for people to give caregivers a break. Caregivers need to take breaks. Care centers are usually more than happy to help with a respite stay. Another option is hiring a live-in person for a short-term basis through a home care agency.

Being a caregiver is taxing physically and emotionally. Making time for you is very important. Fining resources to help support your role as a caregiver is critical to your well-being and to support you in maintaining your ability to also just be a son or daughter.

I love taking all kinds of different vintage things and using them in my home. It’s so great to see the difference that it makes alongside all of my IKEA things and other plain things from these big box stores. It’s those differences that really make my house feel like not only a home, but my home. I’ve always loved vintage stuff and I don’t think that anyone’s ever doubted that from walking into my house.

I was online bidding on a really great love seat that’s vintage and while I was browsing through some other sites right before I made my final bid, I ran across some info on internet service providers. After I looked through it a little bit, I decided to change over my home internet service to one of the ones on that list.

I didn’t end up getting the love seat, unfortunately, but I’m going to one of my favorite vintage stores, which also includes furniture, in the next town over this weekend. So I have some hope in finding some really great pieces.
