Each of us has experiences, beliefs and assumptions about modesty that influence how we blog about breasts, and this week we are taking the time to share our views. A lot of people have commented that I dress “modestly.” At first, I was surprised by that. Modesty, as a goal in itself, has never been a real focus for me. I wasn't raised with any particular religious or moral admonitions on how I should dress. In fact, in my opinion, I’m unusually comfortable with my body for an American- there are photographs on the internet of me in lingerie, for pity’s sake! Sure, when I showed up at the Star in a Bra photoshoot, my outfit choice showed significantly less cleavage than many other contestant’s clothes... but I was there to be photographed in my underwear, anyway!

When the word “modesty” is on my radar, it’s usually because I’m fuming over yet another person talking about how some women “deserved” sexual violence because she wasn't dressed right. Modesty is a really complicated issue- a whirling mess of religious beliefs, rape culture, slut shaming, moralistic lecturing, and so on. It so often feels like an impossible tightrope line to walk- it’s that old, overly idealized false dichotomy between “slut” and “prude.”

What is modesty, anyway? The definition isn't even very clear. Yes, it’s generally connected to women‘s sexuality and hiding it or not, but that’s still very vague. Some people would argue that anything beautiful or attention-gathering is immodest. They would say that if you even try to wear pretty clothes, you’re being immodest, because you’re drawing attention to how you look. By this definition, even bright colors could be seen as immodest! Others would argue that maybe pretty colors are okay, but the clothes should not reveal your shape. And others would say that modesty is about how much skin is showing, and nothing more.

I believe that when people call me modest, they’re using this definition, as I love beautiful colors and prints, and regularly wear clothes that are fitted to the shape of my body. However, I tend to only show a small amount of cleavage, wear skirts that come to a minimum of a few inches above my knees, and I prefer higher waisted pants and skirts.

Comparatively speaking, I was lucky that my upbringing included as little body shaming as it did. I did have my share of body image struggles, but I think that they were more about my overall self esteem and self image, and that my body image was a manifestation of those issues. As such, my body image journey has been more about learning, literally, to be comfortable in my own skin, and happy with who I was, such that I could feel confident enough to express my personality through my fashion choices. That, perhaps, is why I haven’t been so specifically focused on being “modest” or not.

As a teenager who was depressed, bullied, lonely, and who hated myself, I wore baggy clothes from Goodwill that hid my shape. Even though I practically dressed like a bag lady, I still got in trouble several times at the high school I attended for dress code violations- I was not only already curvy, I was tall, and at the time low rise jeans and short tops were in fashion, which meant that it was nearly impossible for me to find shirts long enough and pants with high enough rises, so that I wouldn't show midriff when I lifted my arms at all.

I think that lots of curvy women have similar stories. For many of them, showing skin is empowering- a way to take control of their bodies and their sexuality. I think that’s wonderful! I support everyone in making the fashion choices that make them feel beautiful and happy and powerful. However, just because showing skin can be empowering for some women, and just because people need to learn to mind their own business and not be judgmental or victim-blaming about a woman’s fashion choices, doesn't mean that I should have to show more skin than I feel comfortable with in the name of protesting these issues.The whole point of feminism- at least the model that I espouse, is about having the power to make personal decisions that feel right for the individual person. For me, my preferred choice is to cover slightly more skin. I think that there can be a big difference between covering up out of shame, and covering up out of a place of deliberate choice.

As to why I prefer to dress this way, here are some of my thoughts on what has influenced me to prefer it:

My personal style is sweet, girly, and heavily vintage-inspired. I often feel like I was born in the wrong era, fashion-wise. While many of my fellow bloggers and curvy women love the pin-up inspired fashion, the actual street fashions of women in the 50’s and earlier covered much more skin. I love the way that styles back then revealed a woman’s curves... while still covering her up. To my eye, this is just a prettier, more balanced, and even sexier look. I also feel like by showing a little less skin, I’m making the statement that my breasts are not my only attractive feature, and I don’t intend to treat them that way, and forget about the other parts of myself I like. I try to bring attention to my face in several ways- for example, I've gotten very interested in the past year or so in personal color analysis (something I want to talk about in future posts.) My overall goal is to have the focus be *me,* not the bright color I’m wearing, not my cleavage, but my overall personality, essence, and features.

I also feel more comfortable in “modest” clothes. When I wear more revealing clothes, I feel like I have to be hyper-aware of my physicality and movements. Suddenly I’m stressing about flashing somebody my underwear when I move my legs the wrong way, or leaning too far forward and giving somebody an eyeful I didn't intend. Clothes with more coverage stay put better as I move. Again, there are other choices I make that are related to this preference- I also never wear really high heels, I have a strong preference for fabrics with a little bit of stretch, and I prefer flowing skirts to stiff pencil styles. I want to feel like I can move around in my clothes, and be prepared for whatever adventures that might come up.

My family upbringing, of course, was an influence for me. While I mentioned that I wasn't raised super religiously or conservatively, my family was definitely still a factor. My family on my mother’s side is French. It would be poetic here to write all about my grandmother’s utterly fabulous style, all silk scarves and fancy perfume, and how it inspired my current fashion love while I was still a wee tot digging through drawers to play dress-up... However, she has never, to my knowledge, been nearly as glamorous as the American legend of the Chic Parisian. In fact, she prefers wandering about her garden in stained cargo pants and a wide brim hat to prancing around city streets looking chic or whatever fashionable French women are supposed to do.

However, I certainly picked up a few tidbits of French culture in my upbringing, and one thing my mother told me is that for French women, a little mystery is considered far sexier than revealing everything. It always made sense to me. It’s a well-documented psychological phenomenon that the body parts considered “sexy” vary by culture and by what tends to be covered most of the time. The Victorians considered ankles to be erotic, because they were always covered. In cultures where women are expected to cover their hair, their hair becomes seen as far more sexual than it is in cultures where their hair is not routinely covered.

So, in a certain way, covering more skin is my own way of taking charge of my own sexuality. I get to choose when and for whom I’m going to reveal my body. In the end, what matters the most is that you feel powerful in your clothing choices.

Introducing... Laura!

I have an announcement to make here at Thin and Curvy...

I want to introduce you to Laura. As you've all probably noticed, this here blog has become a bit much for me to keep up with regularly. I wanted a way to keep things updating a little bit more often, as well as provide you with a different perspective. Enter Laura.

I met Laura as a Freshman in college, and we've kept in contact since. Via Facebook, I noticed that she was just as passionate and knowledgeable about bra fitting and big boob issues as myself. I wanted to give her an expanded platform in which to share her knowledge and passion. I know that you'll love her!

Don't worry, though... I'm not going anywhere. I will still be posting here as often as I can (which will hopefully be more frequently than it's been the past few months.)

Hi everyone!

My name is Laura, and I have a problem: I'm addicted to bras and proper fit. GASP. Oh, and milkshakes.

I'm 25 years old and I've lived on the East Coast my entire life. My passion for properly fitting bras began when I was in high school, when I discovered the Livejournal community thirty_twod. Big boobs run in my family, and believe it or not, at 32HH/J, I am the smallest! Back then, though, I was a much smaller 34D (or so I thought -- probably 32DD). I learned a whole lot about proper fit and where to buy bras before I even realized I needed those resources -- I just thought it was interesting, at the time. Once I hit college and my boobs grew out of the ever-so-limited Victoria's Secret size range, I finally went to Nordstrom and learned a great deal about bras for gals like myself. I fell in love with brands like Chantelle, Le Mystere, and Simone Perele, and eventually, Freya, Fantasie, Panache, and beyond.

I love the feeling of a good quality, well-fitted bra. My posture straightens, my mood improves, and I feel beautiful and confident. I've become a bit of a bra-vangelist, trying to get all my friends fitted as well! My first truly successful fit was my mother, who went from wearing a 40G to a 38JJ. From there, I fitted a friend who went from 38DD to 34F/FF (depending on the bra). I worked on another friend for years, trying to get her to buy new bras. The four bras she owned when I met her were hand-me-downs from another girl. They were so stretched out that I could literally see the wrinkles of the fabric under her shirts! I was able to convince her to buy a few new bras at the time. She went from wearing ratty, hand-me-down 34Bs to wearing well-structured 34Bs, though I'd tried to get her to try a 32C then. Just recently, I was able to take her bra shopping as part of my 25th birthday present! She'd grown a bit since her "34B" days, and I got her out of a 34C and into a well-fitted, very flattering 32DD/E (depending, once again, on the bra -- see a pattern?).

Just like a well-fitted bra can boost my mood, so does well-fitted clothing. I just finished up law school, and in a few months will be taking the bar exam. Having to find properly fitting, appropriate professional clothing has been a bit of a challenge, but I embrace it head-on. Thank my mom for that, since she's the one who's encouraged the love of shopping in me.

My hope, in contributing to this blog, is that I will be able to shed some light on dressing professionally with a big bust, and to answer any questions readers may have. I am all about body-positive shopping experiences, and I believe that not nearly enough women have them. I'd like to help instill some body lovin' and appreciation in my entries as well.

DD Atelier- A Review

I am really in love with DD Atelier. It fills some huge holes that were previously in the big bust clothing market, sweeping onto the scene with clothes that are simply wonderful- gorgeous, well made, and stylish.

DD Atelier is a company that recognizes that busty women have different needs, different lifestyles, different personal styles. They make clothes for work and for play, for date night, for hot summer days and cold winter evenings. Every time I browse their site, I think, “Oh, I’ve always wanted that!” They make coats. Coats, you guys! It has been bothering me to no end for *years* that busty clothing companies tend to ignore coats. (Dear clothing companies, while our boobs might seem like they add a sufficient amount of winter insulation all on their own, we in fact still need warm clothes, just like everyone else. Love, me.)

They’re not afraid to break the rules a little- some items have featured things like chest pockets and a variety of necklines, including cozy turtlenecks for winter. But if that’s not your thing, they also have lots of more traditionally flattering items. Their styles run the gamut from classic, investment pieces that are perfect for work, to trendy styles that won’t make you feel like you have to be matronly just because of your bust, to feminine, romantic pieces (my favorite!), to a few boho pieces as well- a style that’s usually very unfriendly to curves!

DD Atelier’s clothes are really nice quality. They use lots of breathable, natural fibers- cotton, viscose, and wool, even silk. This comes as an especially refreshing change from the trend of so many companies using cheap polyester. When you buy a piece from DD Atelier, you can trust that it’s going to be an investment that will last you for a while. I also loved how well-tailored the pieces were- I often have trouble with clothing from other “busty” companies being too snug/straight at the hips, but not so with DD Atelier. The clothes, for the most part, fit like they were made for me, and I feel like DD Atelier really understands the hourglass figure. My only complaint was that a few things were a hair shorter on me that I’d like- but since I’m pretty tall, I definitely can’t fault them for that.

The Rosie dress- This might have been my favorite. It's just such a sweet, pretty, simple summer dress!

Denim Jacket- It fits me perfectly!

I love how you can layer over this dress for Spring or Fall, or wear it on its own for summer- and it looks great with the denim jacket layered on top!

All of DD Atelier's clothes have lovely details, like this twisted waistband on the Rosie Dress.

The Diva Dress really classy. As other reviewers mentioned, it does wrinkle a bit easily, however it makes up for that inconvenience by being a versatile and elegant dress.

Gorgeous buttons!

Because I'm tall, this Pink Striped Blouse is a better length for skirts than jeans on me- but I still don't have all of my clothes with me in California (sigh) and so I didn't have a good skirt to photograph it with. This blouse impressed me with the tailoring at my waist and hips, especially.

They tell me this wrap dress is one of their most popular styles- I can see why! They also sell a wrap blouse version. The fabric is thick, stretchy viscose.

A Review of The Rixie Clip

The Rixie Clip is "The world's first bra band tightener." There exist bra band extenders- why not a tightener? I will admit that I wasn't sure how this could work, but the Rixie Clip's design is pretty smart.

To put the Rixie Clip on your bra, you just open up the little clasp, slide it along the bra band making sure that the hooks are facing the right way, and clip it down. In my experience, it stays put very well, and is extremely comparable to altering the band, in terms of the fit it gives.

My only complaint is that after a while of wearing, the fabric part of the clip tends to slide to the side of the metal, and starts to bunch up. This is only a minor annoyance, however I'd love it if it was fixed in the future.

That being said, there are definite limits to how small you can make the band with the Rixie Clip. If you slide the clip too far, the band starts to wrinkle, and eventually you hit the strap. I wouldn't recommend the Rixie Clip for a bra that's more than 1 band size too big. So if you need a 26, don't think you can suddenly start buying all those cute styles that only start at 30 or 32. The Rixie Clip is great but it's not a miracle worker.

Relatedly, if you need a 26 band and have never tried a tighter band, make sure that the bra you're buying to use with the Rixie Clip is a good style for you in other ways. Having a smaller band doesn't mean that absolutely all bra problems will be magically fixed- you still want to choose the appropriate style, wire width, etc, for your particular breast shape and needs.

I do have to say that I'd still really prefer to be able to buy my bra size. It's not just the band that would be smaller in a properly designed 26 band. The proportions of a good bra should be different from one size to the next. But again, this is a great option until more manufacturers will listen.

Of course, making a 28 band into a 26 band isn't the only use for the Rixie Clip. I could see the Rixie Clip being really useful during weight loss, to extend the life of your bras. The Rixie Clip would also be handy to extend the lifespan of a favorite bra that maybe stretched out a bit too fast. Having a few around could reduce stress about ordering bras online, because if the band was just a hair too big it would be an easy fix with the Rixie Clip. I'm not certain, but I *think* the Rixie Clip could also be used as a bra extender, in a pinch. So I think that a few Rixie Clips would be great to have in anyone's bra wardrobe, especially because they're not at all expensive.

Currently, there's only a 2-hook version available in White, Beige, and Black. However, they're working hard to bring out new styles, including 3 and 4 hooks, and a differently spaced 2-hook version.

Just Who Makes These Rules, Anyway?

It’s really important to me as an advocate of style options for curvy women, that we have as many choices as we need in order to bring our personal style to reality.

Yet if I were to compile a list of all of the "rules" that I have heard for tops for busty women, it would go something like this:

No patterns
No lace
No ruffles
No high necklines
No low necklines
No bright colors
No empire waists
Nothing tight
Nothing clingy
Nothing loose
No spaghetti straps
No bust/neckline detailing

Phew, what an exhausting list. Based on this, it's little wonder that so many busty women feel confused, and turn to basic, solid-colored, v-neck t-shirts as the only shirt option available to them. Now, I love V-neck tees, and I actually think that they can be a nice, flattering, basic style for most women- not just the large-busted. But, I think that if that's all we wear, we're missing out on a lot of opportunity for creativity in our wardrobes. Too many women hide under these styles, and while I think they can be great and have no intent to diss them entirely, I think that a wardrobe full of them can be quite boring. Not to mention that said t-shirt isn't appropriate attire for every single occasion.

Now, obviously, most women don’t follow all of those “rules” exactly, especially seeing as some of them are downright contradictory. But I do see a lot of busty women limiting themselves unnecessarily, and I find that sad.

I’m not actually sure that these tips are even the most flattering! I have actually found that certain types of detailing can be quite nice. While I don’t want an emblem, slogan, or ruffle directly over my chest, I love details like soft cowl necks, draping, ruching, shoulder details and cutouts, any sort of gathering or draping, asymmetrical hems, flowing sleeves, etc. I also don’t see why busty women should have to stick to solid colors- patterns and textures such as lace can be lovely, especially if they cover the whole top and aren’t just focused on the bust area. I have actually found that such detailing is often much *more* flattering on a curvy figure, and it doesn’t scream, “hide me!” Frequently, when you work hard to draw attention away from your bust, you're also drawing attention away from what's right above it- your beautiful face.

I actually feel that compelling women to follow such an extensive list of "rules" is overly restrictive, possibly sexist, and certainly an example of prejudice against big breasts. Lots of women have big boobs, they’re not really such an unusual feature to have, so I don't see why a large chest has to be something that causes "fashion experts" to throw up their hands in despair and tell us to just cover them up in boring solid tee-shirts. Taken to its logical extreme, what they are really suggesting is that our breasts are so shocking, and so mutant, and so inherently, overtly sexual, that we need to draw as little attention to them, and to ourselves, as humanly possible.

In my opinion, a flattering garment doesn’t just hide, or “slim” you. It also has to highlight the parts of yourself that you love, and it has to feel right for your personality and style. If V-neck tees (or whatever you are told you “need” to wear) aren’t your thing, you should feel free not to wear them, and to wear what makes you feel good about your body. I’m not saying to totally abandon flattering your figure, and wear whatever you want even if it’s hideous on you. That is only another method of hiding your body. Flattering your figure involves both celebrating it and working in harmony with it, not hiding it. Dressing big busts needn’t be nearly as restrictive as some people make it out to be. In my experience, I find that as long as my clothes fit well, and show the shape of my waist, I have a lot of freedom in terms of what I can wear well.

Unfortunately, companies that make clothes for busty women tend to assume that we want to follow these rules too strictly, assuming that they are what is most flattering on the busty figure. And the fact that so many women believe it creates a self-reinforcing cycle. But we can still request other styles, and when shopping at “normal” stores look for things that fall outside of these rules, even if you need to get them altered or choose things with a lot of stretch.

My advice? Experiment and decide for yourself what you like. You might be surprised by what works. It is your right to have a personal style. The size of your chest should absolutely not change that.

Review: The Big Bra Bar Black Shirt

Nikki at The Big Bra Bar was kind enough to send me this shirt for review. I decided to try to do a sort of vintage-inspired, creative work look with it.

The top is quite long, and it could either be worn as a tunic, or tucked in as I’ve shown here.

I love that it’s not quite the traditional button-up shirt. This shirt is a really fun style, with dramatic puffed sleeves. I think that they in addition to being a great detail, the sleeves also help minimize a larger bust, because they add contrasting volume. However, if you have a highly conservative work environment, you might prefer a more traditional style.

Ideally, I would have it fit a little smaller at the waist (isn’t that the story of my life, though? ;-) but since I’m somewhat outside the recommended size range, I can’t fault the shirt at all! It fit impressively well in spite of that fact. The buttons are sturdy and there was absolutely no gaping.

All in all I think this is a nice quality shirt style for busty ladies with a fun design. If you like it, or want to check out what else The Big Bra Bar has to offer, go check them out!

Big changes for me, and Star in a Bra Updates

Hi All! I am writing this from a cafe in Berkeley, California, just outside of San Francisco.

Many of you learned from my Star in a Bra adventure that I lived in North Carolina. I’ve lived there for roughly 14 years, but originally I was born on the West coast and lived in Oregon until I was almost 10. Gregory, my fiance, and I started talking about moving to the Bay Area several years ago, because he’s a computer programmer. There just aren’t many opportunities for programmers in a small tourist town in NC. And then earlier this summer we had the occasion to visit this area- my first time back in 14 years- and what really sealed for us that we needed to move was how I felt.

You see, most of you don’t know this, but I’ve struggled with health problems for years. Nobody could ever figure out what exactly they were- I went to numerous doctors, both traditional and alternative. Finally it was decided I had Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which basically mean “We have no idea what’s wrong with you, but we do have a handy name for your collection of symptoms!”

But then I was better in California. Surprisingly better. We began to suspect that I’m allergic to *something* in the environment in NC. And then after getting back, our house in NC started to have particularly bad mold problems. (Fairly common in humid, damp NC.) I began to have trouble breathing and broke out in hives. Yep, allergies. Probably to a species of mold which isn’t able to grow in relatively cool, dry California. Now that it’s clear what it was, it seems so obvious, yet at the same time, I’m still surprised at how much better I feel over here.

Anyway, for now I’m staying with some friends here. Gregory’s still in NC, frantically applying to programmer jobs. And we are trying to find somebody to take over our lease. And it’s generally all quite crazy.

But besides the benefit to my health, I’m really excited about the opportunities living in a bigger city will give us. I think this will also be helpful for this blog- finally I’ll be able to go to more stores, try clothes on in person, and be able to share my findings with you.

Oh, and speaking of Star in a Bra, just in case you weren’t following along on Facebook (which probably means you didn’t vote! **Wags finger with stern face**) I didn’t win- I came in 3rd place, after winner Krista Cousins and 2nd place Cristyen Fowler. I won’t say I’m not sad, because I know that I could have made a bigger difference if I’d won, than I can just sitting here blogging! But Krista seems smart and wonderful and positive, and it’s awesome that the first ever USA Star in a Bra winner was also the first ever black woman to win! So, congrats Krista, you rock! I’m super sad that Krista was the *only* top 10 contestant I didn’t get to meet, because she lives in NYC already and therefore didn’t stay in the hotel, and was scheduled for a different day of shooting than me.

Well, this is long enough, so that’s all for now. If you know anybody in the Bay area who wants to hire a wicked talented programmer, though, pass them on! ;-)

Star in a Bra top 10

So, as many of you know, I made it to the Star in a Bra top 10! Last week, I flew to New York City to take part in the top 10 professional photo shoot.

The top 10 girls were separated into two days, and I was scheduled to show up very first! Luckily for me, Cristyen and I had hit it off online before the shoot, and so we decided to show up together. Neither of us had ever been to New York and we were nervous about taking a taxi and finding the studio all alone! So, the morning of the shoot, I got up bright and early, and put on an old, too-big Freya Deco and a cotton dress (we had been advised not to wear anything that would put marks on our skin.) Then Criss and I met and took a taxi to the studio. Both of us were nervous and shy when we arrived, but Hannah Houston and Laura Butler, Curvy Kate's longest-running model, were there to make us feel welcomed, with adorable accents of course. ;-)

We headed in to hair and makeup, and before we knew it, other girls were showing up and it became quite busy! This was my first time trying Curvy Kate, and I can definitely say that I was impressed. In my opinion, they make some of the prettiest bras for the small back-big bust size range, and the shape and lift I got from them was quite good, despite them being a bit big in the band for me.

I was, of course, nervous at first, but I eventually got into the rhythm of taking the photos. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

So... I'm going to ask you all for votes, once again.

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that I am passionate about bras and bra fitting, and about women's body image. I view this contest not as some great chance at a glamorous modelling career, but as a major chance to really make a difference in the state of bra fitting in the US. I care passionately about the cause and because I know so much about bra fitting already, if I won, I could be not just a role model, but an educator. While the diversity of Star in a Bra is wonderful, and I fully believe that women of all shapes and sizes are beautiful, I think that the fact that I prove that one can be a thin, and also curvy, would be good for the first US winner. Americans believe, much more stubbornly than British people, that you can only be curvy if you are overweight. This misconception keeps many women in a badly fitting bra, because if you suggest that they might be over a D cup, they think you're suggesting that they're "fat!" Perhaps, if I won, I could help to impress upon people that curvy is a shape, not a size.

I need all the support I can get if I am going to have a chance at winning. So, if you believe in me, please, don't just vote for me, but get as many people as you can to vote, as well. I have a new clothing company for larger busts to add to our list!

This is the first style, the Mandarin Collar 3/4 Sleeve Shirt from a new company, Jailyn Apparel! The owner/designer, Jodi Schreiner, has a story we can all identify with: She couldn't find shirts that fit over her bust! So she decided to design her own. Jailyn Apparel is based out of Texas, so those of you looking for more US options will be happy!

The shirt is not super stretchy, so it doesn't cling. It has expert tailoring to ensure it fits smoothly over your bust while highlighting your waist.

I love that for her first shirt, Jodi didn't just go for the same old shirt that many other companies have. She went for a more original design, with flattering 3/4 sleeves and a gorgeous mandarin collar. The color is a lovely dove grey that is more flattering on many people than harsh white. The quality also seems absolutely excellent.

Because the style is sort of dressy/elegant casual, the top is versatile. Pair it with a pretty skirt, or with a blazer for a casual office environment.

The size chart is spot on, I think. I am wearing the size 2 with a waist measurement of roughly 24-25", putting me at the low end of the size chart, and I think that ideally I might go down a size. I don't mind the fact that it's a tiny bit loose at my waist, because it goes with the casual vibe of the shirt. But the shoulders are just a teeny bit too big for me, as you can probably see. I like the fit, but I think if there was a size down it would be completely perfect. :-)

I really like this shirt and I'm so excited to watch Jailyn Apparel grow as a company and come up with new designs! I would definitely recommend giving them a try.

Casual Outfit- Visible Bra Straps

How do you feel about visible bra straps? There is vast disagreement in the big bust and fashion community over whether or not they are okay.

My vote is that they are fine as long as you:

Wear them super casually, not to the workplace, formal gatherings, church, parties, etc.
Wear them with intention, with pretty bra straps in a co-ordinating color, such as I am here with my Ewa Michalak Pl Malachit.

Especially if you're young and/or it's hot, why should you have to wear sleeves just because you have a bigger bust? This trend gives you an acceptable option.

I am very excited to announce that I am in the top 30 for the first ever USA Star in a Bra contest! Star in a Bra is an annual contest run by full bust lingerie brand Curvy Kate. They select models from their customers so that the models really represent their customers and show how the bras fit on natural, large breasts.

I have been passionate about body image and bra fitting for years now, and I believe that winning this contest could provide me with a whole new way of making a difference. Review: Halterneck SlinkyDip Bikini

What is possibly the most awesome thing about The Big Bra Bar, is that they are willing to try making potentially riskier items that serve an unrecognized need. They even make bras for the most ignored segment of band sizes... 26-32.

So with that being said, this swimsuit isn't for everyone. It lacks an underwire, and so it's never going to be able to be quite as supportive as a suit with a wire... meaning if your breasts are on the saggy side and you feel self-conscious about it, you probably should skip it. It also takes a lot of confidence to wear.

It's also not a swimsuit you should dive or swim laps in, go for a job, play beach volley, etc.

The concept was to create one of those sexy, string bikinis like you might see on celebrities or in fashion magazines. However, unlike the kind you can buy in stores, it's made with extra room in the cups for a larger bust.

I hear a lot from younger women with a fuller bust that they feel like many of the clothes, bras, and swimsuits out there are frumpy. They want young and fun and sexy- in the case of a swimsuit, something to hang out at the beach or pool in, and maybe flirt with guys.

This is the perfect swimsuit for that. It's flirty, it's sexy, it's adorable.

It ties at the band and halterneck, so there's a lot of wiggle room in terms of sizing. I was easily able to tie it snug enough to work on my 24/26 band ribcage, but it is very stretchy so it's not going to be super duper snug. Since the sizing is so flexible, it comes in a few sizes, each of which will fit a range of band and cup sizes.

I was a bit concerned that without wires, there wouldn't be much cleavage, (something that's essential in a sexy lounging bikini, don't you agree?) but I was pleasantly surprised. Again, this bikini is going to be better suited if you are younger and have firmer breasts, but I think it looks quite nice, especially considering the lack of wire.

Many of you won't see the point to this suit. Fine... go get a nice, underwired suit if that's your thing. And in fact, I wouldn't want this to be my only suit, as I love to swim actively, and dive.

But if you are one of those ladies who always sighs longingly when you pass by the cute little string bikinis that pop up in all the stores come springtime, this is an excellent choice for you.

Review: Parfait by Affinitas Lingerie

When I had the chance to try out several pieces by Parfait, I knew that with a smallest band size of 30 and largest cup size of G, they wouldn't work so well on my 26HH body. I happen to have a good friend who wears a 28-30G, however, so I asked her if she wouldn't mind trying out the pieces. Here's what she had to say:

"The first item I would like to review is a lovely pink balconet bra with cherry blossom print. With its pintuck seams and satin buttons, it more closely resembles a piece of summer wear than undergarment!

I tried the bra in what is usually my bra size – a 30G. However, as you can see in the photo, the cup is clearly too small. I tried resizing the straps, everything you can do to loosen the fit of the cup, but still cut across my breasts in a really unflattering manner. Some of this might be due to the shape of my breasts, not just the size (I usually avoid balconet bras, actually, due to the way they tend to fit). I would suggest that if you are fuller breasted and like this bra (I was really disappointed it didn’t fit, as I loved it!) you might want to go up a cup size.

The second piece was a beautiful ivory chemise, also a 30G. It is a truly lovely piece, worthy of a bridal trousseau. Best of all, it fits like a dream. The cups on this item were full coverage, and the fit was right on target. The bodice flowed nicely, and I am not super thin, especially around the hips.

So, to summarize, this company makes absolutely stunningly beautiful lingerie. However, be aware that sizing of different cup styles can really make a tremendous difference in terms of fit. Based on my experience, if I was ordering something with a full coverage cup, I would stick with my standard sizing. On the other hand, if I was ordering something with a different cut – specifically a balconet style – I might go up a cup size."

According to online reviews, Parfait by Affinitas pieces can work for some 28 band folks, if you're not a "small" 28. If you fit into their size range, I would definitely encourage you to give them a try. All of their pieces are gorgeous and very affordable. My only complaint is that they don't come in my size! I hope that someday, they are able to expand to include bands down to a 26 and cups up to a K or more! :-)

Guest Post: Review of Alegro Lingerie

There is one reason I’m a big fan of this blog: The name dispels the myth that big boobs only live on big bodies. It’s one of the most common misconceptions that cup sizes over a D are enormous when in reality cup sizes are always relative to your body size. For example, the volume of a B cup on a woman with a 40+ band size is substantially bigger than the volume of a 30F cup size.

When women realize that they are wearing far too big a band size, and get over the surprise that they’re actually a couple of cup sizes bigger, their next task is to find brands that make small band sizes and big cup sizes. This is where a blogger like Brittany is essential. The bra industry is taking a while to catch up with the fact that there are lots of “Thin and Curvy” women out there. The number of brands doing band sizes under the traditional 34 inch threshold is small but growing.

Introducing Alegro Lingerie

Alegro is a Japanese brand with a presence in the UK and North America. Their mission is to combine sexy and quality to give you a “choice of fashion and comfort”. They are relatively new so are still working out where their sizes start and end but they are evidently targeting the full bust market. We have carried the Alegro line for a year now and have seen a full array of their styles from lacy full cups to molded balconettes. There are pros and cons to the range that I’m going to share with you.

The Pros

The biggest thing I love about Alegro is that they understand having a bigger bust does not mean you want to forego gorgeous underwear. Sure, every busty girl needs a trusty basic or two but you also need the fun and diversity of a colourful bra. They use bold colours like bright pink and blue (I particularly love the Pink Boudoir Starlet bra that was reviewed for us by Holly at The Full Figure Chest).

They use very elegant details that feel more grown up than say the youth feeling of the Cleo range. I think the Sweet Nothing Bra is a very modern but grown up design with silver cross-stitch and ribbon rose details on the straps.

One of the big pluses is that they are relatively affordable. Here in Canada we get taxed a lot for importing lingerie (which is about 90% of all lingerie sold here!) so having a reasonable price point means bigger busted women can have choice.

The Cons

Most of their styles start at a 30 band which is better than average but doesn’t cover the range of brands like Freya and Ewa Michalak/Effuniak who have 26 and 28 bands. There is no sign that they will branch out into 26 and 28 brands in the near future but as their popularity grows they may respond to feedback from retailers and customers. Not all the styles go up to a G and H cup which can be very frustrating from a retailer’s point of view. We want to offer our customers all the styles in all sizes.

How They Fit

Size-wise there are some things to be aware of. The lace full cup bras (Boudoir Starlet, Innocent Lily) tend to be generous in the cup. I would say a G is more like a GG etc. Their balconette bras (Sweet Nothing, Jewels) are more true to size in the cup, however, their straps are set particularly far apart which is not ideal for smaller frames. I would say that under 5ft 6” you’d have trouble with how far apart the straps are.

The Conclusion

I think Alegro still has some kinks to work out as it grows and find out which of its styles are repeatable etc. The fact that they are on a mission to give fuller busted women a choice of affordable, sexy and supportive lingerie is fantastic. I think they have some really beautiful designs and a good manufacturing standard so it won’t fall apart after a few wears. I hope this new kid on the block has time to become a staple brand for thin and curvy women.

Resources for small busts

I get asked all the time for advice for smaller breasts. I know that it can be just as hard to find a size like 28B or 30A, as it is to find my size! If you aren't sure of your size, click here for how to measure- it applies to smaller chests as well as larger ones! :-)

(Oh, and a random observation: a C cup in a smaller band size is one of the very hardest to find sizes! "small bust" companies usually go up to a B cup, but "big bust" companies start at a D! How frustrating!)

Ewa Michalak (Yes, they do smaller bras, as well, and if you need a smaller size they will custom make it for you! This is really nice because you could need, say, a 26DD and it would still be a fairly small breast size. Read my review of the custom process here. They also have several models of very different sizes so you can see how the bra looks on various chest sizes! (See image at right)

The Big Bra Bar to offer a 26 band bra!

After some urging by yours truly, :-D as well as other 26 back ladies, The Big Bra Bar is planning on introducing one style of 26 backed bra as a trial run next season!

As they explained, they can only do one style, so be sure to comment by clicking here and telling them which is your favorite. Personally, I'm rooting for the Midnight Blue Loren! Isn't she beautiful?

This will be a trial run- if it sells well, they may be able to introduce more 26 styles. But if it doesn't it will be discontinued. :-( So if you need a 26 back, I definitely suggest you "vote with your dollars" and buy this one! And tell your friends, too. :-)

Second Base Review

The camisole. It's generally considered a must-have basic, particularly for busty women. They provide coverage, when layered under other tops, and prevent unwanted cleavage show. They can turn a blouse from totally indecent to perfectly suitable.

But all too often, like any other top, they are hard to fit. They are too big at my waist, which adds unnecessary bulk, and too snug at my hips and bust, which means they ride up. The extra fabric is much too hot in the summer, and can add undesirable lumps and bumps under a snug-fitting outer layer.

Enter Second Base demi camis. They are designed to fit over your bra and cover cleavage, but they are cropped and fitted so as not to add extra bulk.

I chose the daytime style "Brittany" (how could I resist??!) in sage. It's shown here over my Ewa Michalak Toffik bra. :-)

It's really pretty, with sweet lace on the trim, which is just my style- but if you want something sportier, Second Base has lots of style options. It also has fully adjustable shoulder straps which would be great if you're petite.

This tunic top is made out of somewhat clingy viscose fabric. The Second Base style is made of of a super duper soft, lightweight modal fabric. I was worried it would add extra bulk under clothes, but it doesn't at all. I can also tell the fabric is of high quality and will last a long time, though I do plan to wash it gently.

The fabric also breathes really well, which is super important. They are comfortable even in the hot summertime, when a normal cami layer would be unthinkable!

They also stay put well without riding around, yet they don't cut in at all!

But in case you're wondering if the price is worth it when you could get a $5 cami at Wal-Mart, the answer is that the quality, not to mention convenience, totally matches the price tag.

This is one of Second Base's evening styles, Jennifer. It's made of soft, not scratchy, nylon lace material. It's sheer so you could see a hint of cleavage through it, without going over-the top. It also, as you can see, has thicker straps so it can hide your bra straps.

You can use it for your basic cleavage coverage, or...

If you felt daring, you could use it as the base for an "underwear as outerwear" inspired look, and as it has the wider back and lace material it would look more like one of those bandeau bras which are meant to be seen.

If you've ever tired on a top at a store that was cute and fit decently, but showed way too much cleavage, Second Base is definitely the answer. I could see having a rainbow of colors, which would allow for lots of fun mixing and matching, too. I definitely want to add to my Second Base collection.

I do wish that there was a style like the Brittany, but with thicker straps to cover bra straps, like so many of the other styles have. It would be even better if some of that pretty lace could extend onto the straps. :-) I would also really like to see the lace evening styles in a rainbow of pretty colors, instead of just basic black and white.

I went by their size chart, accounting for my bra "sister size," and ordered a size large, which fits, but I think I could do a medium next time. They are stretchy, so if in doubt, size down. I'm also not on their size chart really at all, being a size 26HH, but as you can see they fit just fine! So there is definitely wiggle room in terms of the sizing.

In conclusion, if you're looking for the perfect cleavage coverage solution, Second Base is it! :-)

Guest Post: Body Images Issues as a Foreigner

I want to first thank Brittany for letting me write a guest post here. Her blog was the first one that I found that really discussed body image, bras, and finding clothes when you're curvy and it was like a breath of fresh air to me. :)

I could write a book on body image issues. Growing up with large breast while never having any great examples on how to find a well-fitting bra and dress my figure, really did a number on me. However, I think the worst experience that I have had to date came from shopping in Brazil.

Before I get to that, let me give you a quick background. My husband, daughter, and I moved to Brazil earlier this year. Also, for over a year now I have been in the process of losing a significant amount of weight (as of right now I'm over 60lbs down). I've lost 20lbs of that weight since moving to Brazil. Because of that I desperately needed some new clothes and bras, enter the horrible shopping trip.

We're lucky enough to have a mall close by with a ton of lingerie shops in it. I thought for sure I'd be able to find something there (or at least be pointed in the right direction of a specialty shop). NOPE. I entered the first store, Marisa Lingerie (basically, the Victoria's Secret of Brazil), and after briefly talking to a sales clerk it became immediately obvious that bra shopping in Brazil would prove to be impossible. It turns out that bra sizing here is done by assuming everyone is a B cup and they simply increase the band size. So according to my bust measurements I should be a "50", however, the corresponding band size with that bra fits a 36.5-38 inch underbust, which would dwarf my 31" underbust.

However, I was determined to find something that would fit so I went home and scoured the internet for anything. It turns out that two brands: Hope and Liz have recently introduced cup sizes but the largest I've been able to find was an "F" cup. Still, I wanted to try it on for myself so I found a Lingerie shop close to the mall that carried both brands. When I went there not a single salesclerk could answer any questions about the bras. They also didn't even have a changing room so you could try on the bras. I ended up putting it over my shirt just to see, yeah, even with another bra on already I could see that I would be sporting a pretty great quadraboob look if I were to purchase that one. I think at that point the message really hit home that I was monstrously huge and wouldn't be able to find a good supportive bra at all. I remember the sales lady even giving me a strange look and kept asking if I was sure if the bra didn't fit.

I still had some hope, though. Hope at least that if I couldn't find a bra, maybe I could at least find some shirts that fit! I was feeling pretty good about my loss and I knew that I was definitely out of plus-sizes in terms of pants so I thought I'd be able to pick up some shirts at the very least. Oh, how wrong I was! After visiting many, many stores at the mall it become obvious that in Brazil the bust is cut even smaller than in the US. Most non-plus-sized stores carry up to a 44 or 46 (roughly US sizes 10 or 12/14) so I grabbed clothes in size 42-46 and ran to the dressing stores. Nothing fit. In any of the stores. Occasionally, I could find a size 46 that would at least let me button it up all the way (or zip it up all the way or pull it down over my bust) but the waist would be huge in comparison. I could get into either a 42 or 44 pants just fine but tops were a complete no go. I have to admit that I teared up a bit in one of the dressing rooms after what felt like the millionth top didn't fit.

Between the bra problems and the shopping trip, I got the idea that I was freakishly huge compared to the average Brazilian woman, even after losing all that weight! Boy did my ego take a hit. I had gone in full of confidence and left with the thought that even if I get to my goal weight, I'm never going to be able to just buy clothes here. Never. A lot of my insecurities from high school where I was never able to find clothes that fit right and I couldn't wear the same trends as my friends resurfaced. I just felt like I was built like a freak. It's amazing after all these years how quickly these thoughts can resurface even when you're old enough to know better!

It really did get me down for awhile. It didn't help that I was still wearing my old too big clothes that covered up all my hard work from weight loss. Eventually, though, I decided enough was enough and I needed to do something about it. First I started really looking at other women on the street, I saw how their bras and clothes fit and it became pretty obvious that I WAS NOT ALONE! Even women who looked incredibly put together were sporting the 4-boob look and had bands inching up to their necks. Other women were busting out of their tops that were clearly meant for someone with a B cup, not a G cup. Even websites that supposedly sold bras in larger sizes showed pictures of models with very, very badly fitting bras. Even though I really felt sorry for these women who must be dealing with a lot of back pain, it came as a huge relief to me that I wasn't a freak here but I had the same problem that so many other ladies had.

Then I found out about Brazilian plastic surgery vacations. The bra fitting problem is significant enough that women are choosing to do breast reductions to be able to fit into the bras here rather than finding bras that fit them. Breast reductions are so common here (and cheap) that women actually come from the states and take a "cosmetic vacation". It turns out Brazil has the highest per capita of plastic surgery and breast reduction is the most popular type of plastic surgery here (surprise, surprise!):

Cosmetic Surgery Abroad. Cosmetic surgery's popularity is spreading throughout the developed world. South Korea has the highest ratio of cosmetic surgeons to citizens worldwide, but Brazil has the most cosmetic surgical procedures per capita. ... In Brazil, breast reduction is more popular.[7]

From http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/542448_2 (see Grobman P. Vital statistics. New York, NY: Plume Books; 2005.). It seems crazy that it's easier for women to pay for surgery than it is to find well-fitting clothes and bras!

Finally, I came to the conclusion that I CAN do something about this. I don't have to sit around in old bras that don't fit well and clothes that look horrible on me. I started researching and looking at sales. My husband is traveling to the states next month and I've already ordered a number of bras and shirts ahead of time so that I can hopefully find something that fits me. I've also ordered some bras from Ewa Michalak. I'll have to pay some pretty costly customs fees for them but it will be well worth it to find my size. Due to the costs of well fitting bras/clothes, I'll probably have to make do with a lot less but it's worth it having things that fit well.

I also started reading blogs from other busty girls. The first one I came across was Thin and Curvy and it really was an amazing experience to read about someone who had really BTDT when it comes to ill-fitting bras, hard to find clothes, and body image issues. It was such a relief to know that these issues were real and not something to just be dismissed because I was "too fussy". Another thing that I've started doing is getting some of my old outfits tailored. Thankfully, alterations are relatively inexpensive here so it's something I plan to do often!

I do have at least some good news to report. I have found a few clothes since that horrible shopping down. I made a great score at a local consignment shop. This dress:

It does still have some gaping but is infinitely better than most. I plan on taking it in and have the waist taken in and see if she can let out the bust a bit (or at least sew an extra button there). Sorry for the wrinkles, I haven't had a chance to iron it yet. I also found this dress at C&A, which really was an incredible find!

The material is very stretchy, which is why it probably works. Again, the bust still has a slight gap but I think I'm going to take it in soon to get an extra button put there as well as have the waist taken it on this one also. I have to admit this find really did give me a huge confidence boost. It's amazing how something so little can drastically change your mood!

Guest Post: How to Select the Perfect Tee for Your Body Type

(The following is our first guest post, from Carol Montrose! While it's important that your tops fit your curves, there are lots of other important aspects of a great fit! She talks about some of those here.)

Unfortunately, one size does NOT fit all, so if you find yourself flirting with the idea of buying a tee that has this size listed on the label, put it back! While the real function of clothing is to cover and protect our bodies, the truth is that it also serves a number of other purposes. It can convey a station in life (doctors wear lab coats, for example) or be suited to an activity (yoga pants, running shorts, sequined ballroom-dancing gowns, and so on). But when it comes to the clothing that you wear every day, that you live your life in, you are no doubt looking for items that are functional and comfortable, but also figure flattering. And since most of us live our lives in jeans and tees, it behooves you to know how to select the perfect tee for your body type.
So the first thing you need to know is that one size fits some, not all, and it doesn’t fit anyone perfectly. As a general rule, all this label means is that a tee is going to fit you like a flour sack, completely hiding any figure you might have underneath, or it’s going to squeeze you in all the wrong places and emphasize your problem areas. Since neither of these options sounds very appealing, you’re best bet is to skip over any shirts with this unfortunate (and untrue) size descriptor.
The next step is to examine your body type and be honest about it. You can really only look your best when you’re dressing for the shape that your body actually is, rather than the shape it used to be or the shape you wish it was. Embracing your body type can be hard, but it will help you to dress it properly so that you always look your best. And don’t assume that you’re the only one who has a hard time dressing your body; every woman has her moments!
Thin and petite women should look for tees that are fitted close to the body. Anything loose or bulky is going to make you look smaller, even childlike. This is especially important if you’re a bit lacking in the womanly curves. And in terms of length, shorter is better. Anyone who is petite must work to extend the leg-line and a good way to do it is by making sure that the hemline of your shirt goes no lower than the top of your hip (closer to the waistband of your jeans is even better). Women who are petite but curvy should stick with the shorter length, as well, but look for tees with a bit of detailing around the natural waist (nipped in, ruched, belted, etc.) and a lower portion that floats away from the midsection.
Taller women can, of course, go with tops that are a bit longer, although really, the most attractive styles will hit right at the hipbone. Again, thinner or more athletic builds should wear fitted tees while those looking to hide a little extra weight around the middle should opt for nipped-in waists only. And V-necks are universally flattering, extending the neckline, deemphasizing a strong shoulder, and drawing the eye down to make your body look longer and leaner. Of course, women who are already lean may prefer a crew or boat neck for balance. In short, there is a perfect tee for every body type, and you can find yours by being honest about your shape and shopping for the tee that is going to suit you best.

I've started the University semester up again. Which, as you all know, generally means it gets a bit quieter here at Thin and Curvy. So, I want your help! I'm looking for some guest posts to keep things interesting. Email me your ideas for posts at brittany [at] thinandcurvy [dot] com. Here are my guidelines for guest posts:

Guest posts MUST be relevant to the content of my blog- that means curves, body type, large breasts, curvy hips, body image, etc. If you are unsure if your post idea fits the content of my blog, just ask me! I'm perfectly open to creative ideas, I just want to keep things relevant and interesting to my readers!
Posts must only appear on thinandcurvy.com. If I find the contents of your guest post elsewhere, I will remove it from my site. You are welcome and encouraged to promote what you write on your blog, twitter, facebook, etc, though!
Posts must not replicate content already found on my blog- please save both of us some time by using the search box and checking if your topic has already been covered BEFORE writing to me! However, you are welcome to review a clothing or lingerie company I have already reviewed, adding your own perspectives.
Posts absolutely must not contain material that is racist, sexist, etc. Posts also must not insult other women's bodies in any way. This includes comments like the abhorrent "only a dog wants a bone," insulting smaller chested women, etc. I am strictly against this and will not publish posts that contain this sort of language. Similarly, I would ask that you do your best to keep posts open-minded towards other women's style preferences, etc.
I would prefer that you include at least one image, if possible, to keep things interesting, but it's not a requirement. However, you must insure that all images you send me are either owned by you or safe to use. By sending me an image for use you are taking responsibility for making sure it is safe for use on my blog.
No R-rated content, please. (Again, ask if you need clarification.)
You are welcome to review clothing companies, but if you have a problem with a company, I ask that you do everything in your power to resolve things with them, first, rather than using my blog as a place to rant. That being said, I am interested in negative reviews- it's helpful to know good and bad companies to buy from. But please do try to keep reviews balanced and if it's negative, include at least one positive about the company, and keep your feedback constructive.
Please try to write posts that show a different perspective than one I can give- this is more useful to me, my blog, and my readers.
I reserve the right to ask you for edits to your post before publishing it on my blog.

Reviews of curve-friendly companies. Even if I have already reviewed them, your perspective is helpful.

Reviews of specific bra styles or companies
Rants, rambles, or funny stories about life with curves!

Is Banana Republic's new Mad Men line curve-friendly?

Ever since the announcement that Banana Republic would be offering a special, early 1960's style collection inspired by the TV show Mad Men, I think every curvy lady has been wondering, "will it be curve friendly?"

So, as soon as I found out the collection had come out, I rushed to my local Banana Republic to find out! My store didn't have everything, at least not yet, but here's what I found. (Sorry for the crappy cell phone photos... I didn't have my real camera with me!)

Begonia print dress

I'm wearing a size 4 in this photo. It fit pretty well, but then a sales lady handed me a skinny belt which cinched in the waist the rest of the way in without ruining the look of the dress and gave it a really nice look and fit! I quite liked this dress and may go back and get it at some point.

Since it was the smallest size they had under like a 12, I optimistically went for my 'waist size'... 0. Surprise! It actually fit! Unlike the blue begonia dress it had a little bit of stretch, but it was still very tailored feeling. The lining was super super soft. I have wanted a dress like this for... oh I don't know... years. The perfect lace little white dress. I even bought one like it from Bravissimo a while back on eBay, before I knew how badly they would fit me, but of course it looked awful. But this was really nice. I have seen enough fashion bloggers style their own to know it would be endlessly versatile whilst being soft, summery, and feminine. It flattened me out a little bit from the side, but not too bad and I think a different bra would help with that. I will definitely be getting this one!

Leopard Trench

Ok, totally not my style. but I know some of you will love it and with the belt to cinch it in at the waist, it's a pretty good fit.

Black Circle Skirt

I thought this pretty silk dark blue shirt was part of the collection when I grabbed it, but as you can see, epic fail as that's as far as it would button. It was also too big for my waist, despite being a size 0. Sigh. But I really liked this pretty black skirt. Very professional looking but also curvy bum friendly. (also size 0 and a great fit at the waist!) If this whole outfit could have fit me, I would have paired it with an artsy necklace and shoes and worn it to interviews or other times I wanted to look professional. It somehow felt very 'artist-dresses-up' and I liked that.

Betty Dress

Ok, 1) SOOOO not my color, ick. And 2) massive at the waist. The second photo shows it held in.

So, as you can see, the collection was a bit hit or miss for us hourglassy, curvy ladies, but there was definitely a more waist tailored silhouette than most clothes. I thought that the more curve friendly pieces were quite nice, though. I definitely had my doubts but I was pleasantly surprised. i would love to hear other busties' thoughts on the collection if you have a chance to try it on. I will probably also be going back and trying s few other things on, as well as to get that white dress. (And maybe this time I can remember to bring my nice camera!) :-D

Outfit post: Biubiu Summer City watercolor dress!

So, I got a new Biubiu order! Since I've already done my main review, this time I'm going to be secretive and show you the new clothes as I wear them, in outfit posts. :-) I am also adding a Biubiu tag to posts, so if you filter by that then you will be able to see all the outfits with Biubiu clothing in them!

I know this dress is called Summer City, but in my head I think of it as "the watercolor dress." In photos it struck me more as a big floral print, but in person I feel like it really looks a lot like a watercolor painting. Very pretty. :-)

At first, I didn't order this dress, thinking I'd be good and just try out the Indigo City. But then I regretted not getting it once it was too late. :-( Then, when I got my package, surprise! Kinga sent it to me anyway as a thank you for helping promote Biubiu. Thank you Kinga! :-) It may actually be my favorite thing I got, too. :-)

As far as the fit goes, it's pretty perfect- It reminds me of Trashy Diva. It's quite snug, so if you are smaller than me you could still wear it, but definitely size up if you are bigger than me, either in bust or in waist, or if you like a looser fit.
