Solfest Digiart - Part 2

2011-08-24T20:45:00.000-07:00

This is one of the smaller pieces that I also did using another idea based on using photographs from various peoples Solfest experiences.

Solfest Digiart

2011-08-24T20:40:00.000-07:00

Okay, so I was approached by the Art Director for a local festival called Solfest.

He gave me a vague outline of the project and basically gave me free reign with it as long as I "gear it towards the solfest experience" (Which is never a good idea where I'm concerned). He also wanted it to be digital art which is kind of a new area for me. So this is what I came up with.

This is the main piece and I also did 4 or 5 other little pieces to go with it which I may post up later.

Tiredness comes from hard days work!

2011-06-07T11:08:00.000-07:00

It doesn't. You know when you get tired from doing absolutely nothing all day? That's what I am experiencing right now... I am living proof people!

Experimental Jetset Magazine Spread

2011-06-04T07:56:00.000-07:00

The task was to research a design agency and then design a magazine spread based around their work. My agency was Experimental Jetset, who are based in Amsterdam and use Helvetica as a typeface in a lot of their work as they believe it make sthe design more important if you aren't worrying about which typeface to use.

Newspaper Ad Concept and Design

2011-06-04T07:52:00.000-07:00

We were given an event title and we had to come up with a way of advertising the event in a relevant way in a newspaper. The concept is that someone has dirty hands from working hard and has smudged them all over the paper.

Inspirational Posters for the Workplace

2011-06-04T07:49:00.000-07:00

We were given a series of quotes from well known figures and were asked to design a series of posters for the Carlisle Enterprise Center in order to brighten up the building.

Construction Company Logo Design - Tusk

2011-06-04T07:42:00.000-07:00

The concept is that it needed to look 'hard' and strong because stereotypically construction workers are all men. The typeface is Rockwell Bold. The top of the T is meant to represent a tusk.

Old Work

2011-06-04T07:34:00.000-07:00

I've been rummaging through all my old (first year) uni work and I've found some bits that I feel are worthy to be shared with everyone. So the pieces that follow are all oldsh pieces of work... Enjoy!

Modernism Vs. Post-Modernism

2011-06-01T11:43:00.000-07:00

Modernism and Post-Modernism are terms that are thrown around a lot these days. But I have found, whilst researching for an essay, that defining them is about as easy as drawing blood from a stone.

Modernists seem to try and expand on things that already exist in an imaginative way and try to 'reinvent the wheel'. Post-Modernists on the other hand, don't. They try and question whether there is even a wheel in the first place. They seem to strip everything out of their work, whether it be art or literature, that the modernists hold dear just as a middle finger to the modernists.

Now, I quite like some of the post-modern art because a lot of it is quite typographically driven which is right up my street. But the post modern literature that I've read seems rather drab. There is a lack of any particular plot or narrative which, in my opinion, is what makes a good book worth reading.

If I had to pick to be part of either movement then I would most definately pick Modernism. In general, it seems to be the most sensible.

Self Promotion Booklet/ Summative Booklet

2011-04-23T07:32:00.000-07:00

Right, here is my design for my self promotion piece. I focused on being really experimental with my layouts and using objects that I have never used before. I decided to use two big letters on each double page which are pulled from the middle of the title of each spread (e.g. Typography, O, G.). Comments and Suggestions welcome.

2011-02-28T07:55:00.001-08:00

A project that I have worked on recently in which we were given a list of businesses and had to design a logo for one of them. I did 4 logos for 4 businesses. We also had to design stationary fro the business. These are my for stationary collections.

New Project

2010-12-07T06:02:00.001-08:00

Just started an 'Summative Project'. This means the end of the semester [Finally]. I'll be posting work as I complete it so watch this space!

Collections

2010-11-24T09:38:00.000-08:00

We were told to find a visually interesting collection and design and make a 16 page 'catalogue' for the collection. We had to use all of our own images. My collection was Guitars. These are the 7 spreads and the cover and backcover of my 'catalogue' of my guitars.

Credit for the Photography goes to Amy Irving and Paul Beckett without whom this project would not be complete.

The Edinburgh Fringe

2010-10-28T04:08:00.000-07:00

This is a small Illustration that was part of my Edinburgh Fringe flyer / leaflet that was handed in today (27th October 2010). we were given a choice of the music program or the dance program for the festival and had to design a flyer based around the information.

Day Is Done - Nick Drake

2010-10-09T16:54:00.000-07:00

This music video was directed by my good friend Kieran Brown. This is my acting debut, of sorts (because I'm not actually acting, I'm just doing what I do best). I was told to learn the song on my guitar and play it for the camera in order to make it look genuine even though it's not me playing on the soundtrack.

Opening Night

2010-10-08T08:46:00.000-07:00

So here we are, Opening Night. I remember when someone once told me that making blogs was about as easy as open heart surgery. Which I thought was kinda funny because open heart surgery isn't easy at all. But then I realised that it was sarcasm and laughed some more a few days later.... Anyway, I digress, over the next few years I'll be posting things here that take my fancy and I think should be shared with the world or things that I have designed on my Graphic Design course at Cumbria University. So without further dudes, let's watch this thing.

(If anyone thinks that they have heard some of the lines from the previous ^^ before then you must be completely stupid. They are totally and utterly not stolen from an episode of Family Guy called Chick Cancer first aired on 27 July 2007. So stop complaining. It's completely original.)
