10 things I learnt when life gave me a lemon

We get a gut feeling before something bad is about to happen but we ignore it.

We feel air around us getting change. But we think it is just ourselves being paranoid. Instead of taking hold on it earlier, we let things grow bad. We ignore our instincts because we don’t notice the change.

We understand that we can’t do anything about certain things but still we try to fix everything.

We realize that we don’t have control about few things but still we try to take control because our ego doesn’t allow us to sit down and watch things getting worse. But sometimes things needs to get worse just to get better. We need to realize sometimes greatest thing you can do to fix things is doing nothing. There is a difference between activity and productivity.

It is OK to fall weak sometimes.

You might have been strong throughout your life, standing tall even in greatest adversities. But there will be moments in life when you will fall weak. You will speak and do things you know are wrong but still you won’t be able to control yourself. You will feel helpless, you will cry and you will see yourself falling into pieces. You will feel guilty about yourself being weak and then you will try to stand again. This cycle will repeat several times and will leave you getting stronger every time.

We always resist change, no matter how prepared we were.

It is natural, it is human and understandable because we are blessed with a brain. We don’t behave as per our instincts, we try to find answers. But instead of trying to find answers how, when and why, first accept the change and adapt accordingly. Analysis part should come later.

It is possible to give our 100% and still lose.

Life is not fair as we wish it should be. A farmer may plough the fields, sow the seeds and water them at right times. But untimely rains or disasters can ruin everything anytime. Sometimes bad things just happens and it is not our fault. We may feel restless and turbulent at that time. But we need to realize, shit happens.

We find happiness when we start giving it to others.

Several books and articles talk about it. I don’t feel a need to explain it.

Greatest hurdle in moving on is our own lack of desire for it.

We never move on unless until we decides to. We keep ourselves chained with false hopes. As soon as we realize that things have changed, we should start moving on. Holding onto past and keeping false hope just increase sufferings and delay healing. The day we decide that we want to move on, journey is half done.

Dr Stephen Spencer writes in ‘Who Moved My Cheese’:

“Greatest inhibitor to change lies within yourself, nothing gets better until you change.”

Hope for a better future but don’t expect things to get better too soon.

Hoping and dreaming about the better future gives us strength to move on. But better future doesn’t mean that it will be like what we may want it to be. We need to be open for changes. We never know it may bring something better than we wanted.

We should not try to supress our feelings but we should control expressing them.

Cry if you want to. Shout if that makes you feel better. Let your anger come out. But this doesn’t mean you start shouting and cursing somebody on his/her face. Share how you feel. If you find difficulty in sharing then write down those feelings. Sometimes we should let tears flow, its feels really good after crying. But remember don’t let your words and action hurt others.

There is positive aspect of every situation. Sometimes we might just have to dig deeper to find it.

There is always an opportunity to learn, an opportunity to grow and opportunity to push your own limits in adverse situation. There is always a blessing in disguise. When you will come out of your bad time, you will proud of yourself that you survived one of the worst phase of life. Though we may not have acted always so gracefully but best part is we didn’t give up on surviving.

Just believe, everything happens for a good reason.

The Wimp

I asked him, “Who are you”?
He stared back at me.
He didn’t answer.
He never answers.
In fact, he never speaks, never.
He just stares. Sometimes, his stares chill my bones.
He looks so spiritless, so craven.
I always think, he is hiding some secret.
A big secret, a secret about something or someone.
But he is too cowardly to tell, or
may be, he is just waiting for the right time.
I always wonder, what relation do I have with him?
He appears to me as the most pathetic human in world.
He is silent, he is lazy & he is weak.
He is an embodiment of sadness.
I feel, he always thinks of failures. So many ifs.
I don’t think he is calm. He is just silent.
He looks like a volcano about to erupt.
A volcano which never erupted,
but has red hot lava simmering inside.

He makes me feel disturbed.
He looks like a manifestation of gloom.
But what makes him so dejected?
Somebody told me, he was happy once.
He was full of vitality, his spirit was charismatic.
But one day he decided to settle for less.
He accepted whatever came, he never questioned.
He never fought back. Fighting will hurt them,
he thought.
For fulfilling the expectations of others,
he sacrificed his dreams.
He supposed, keeping them happy
would make him happy too.
At least, that's what he was led to believe.
He was happy seeing their satisfied faces. But sad too.
Because it wasn't his dreams that he realized.
He tried to be heroic by trying to be happy.
But, he was empty inside.

Soon, everybody forgot his sacrifices.
That’s sad but true, everybody cares just for themselves.
He cared for everybody else, but now he was forgotten.

He was no longer confident about what he had been taught.
He was confused, he was exhausted.
He asked everybody he met, what did he miss?
What went wrong?
He was supposed to be happy, but he wasn’t.
His questions remained unanswered.
The grief of sacrificing everything for nothing devoured him.
He cried, he regretted but the opportunities were lost.
His dreams were lost.
Nobody liked him when he was sad.
Nobody cared for him, not even for his glories.
The people for whom he had given up so much
distanced themselves from him.
One day, he stopped questioning, he has been silent since.
I still don’t like him.
I just thank God, he is not me.

Tortoise and the Hare

You already must have heard the story, but still, let me tell you the story in short.

Once there lived in a forest a hare and a tortoise. The hare was very proud of his speed. He made fun of the tortoise for his slow speed. The tortoise challenged the hare to have a race with him. The hare accepted the challenge.

The race started. The crow was the referee. The hare ran very fast. The tortoise was left much behind. The hare stopped to take rest under a tree. He fell asleep. The tortoise passed him and reached the winning post. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He saw that the tortoise was already there at the winning post. He had won the race.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

Whoa!! Bravo!! Great Moral, but wrong message. I agree to the point that being slow and steady doesn't makes a person loser. But it doesn’t makes him/her a winner either. Not at least in this universe in which we are living, out of all the existing parallel universes. In one of them, it might be a truth.

I would like to tweak the moral a bit. Slow and steady wins the race*. Now I will write in the bottom, * terms & conditions apply. Now I can write at least a thousand word essay elaborating these terms & conditions. But I will not, because nobody cares, they are just terms & conditions, but nobody reads them.

I will now move towards doing an autopsy of this story. “Hare made fun of the tortoise for his slow speed. The tortoise challenged the hare to have a race with him.” What the hell? What in all the universe, tortoise think of himself? What you will call a bicycle rider challenging a Ferrari rider for a race? Okay, let us assume, tortoise was in anger and wanted to prove himself. Let me even agree that he had confidence of beating hare in race.

Let us move to the later part of the story,

“The hare stopped to take rest under a tree. He fell asleep. The tortoise passed him and reached the winning post. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He saw that the tortoise was already there at the winning post. He had won the race.”

I see a difference here, it is not the case here that tortoise won the race. What exactly appear here to me is, Hare lost it. Don’t ask me what is the difference between both. There is a lot of difference, sincerely speaking, there is a lot of difference between yourself winning a race and everybody else losing it.

It happened once, it may happen twice or thrice or ‘N’ number of times. In real world, Hares don’t sleep during races. They beat every crap out of tortoises, almost daily. Many of these tortoises even commit suicides out of their shame of being loser in this race. I am still not saying, the slow ones are losers but they may not be a winner either. We must stop ourselves feeding people with the false hope that even while being slow, they can win with the people faster than them. They can win over them, only when, either they become fast enough to beat them or faster ones start making mistakes. Being slow and steady, you can eventually grow, you may eventually become faster than what you are right now but you will never be able to beat faster ones, until you become faster than them. But by being slow and steady, tortoise never became a hare, and hare never slept again in any future races. Hare won again and again until tortoise gave up racing with him.

But what happened with tortoise? He might have concluded that he can never win the race unless hare do something silly. So, he might have decided to play his luck with other hares in forest. Or he might have become the fastest tortoise in his herd, because of constant racing. Then, he might have started a ‘Tortoise Olympics’ and had won it every time until somebody else faster than him arose.

Races we face daily in our lives aren’t much different. Some of us are tortoise and some of us are hares. Hares keep competing among themselves and so the tortoises. Sometimes, a tortoise rises from his herd to challenge hares, he loses it and goes back wherever he belongs. He still remains a hero of his herd. But some of us are hares are disguised as tortoise. We realise our true identity only when we are challenged enough to find our limits. You might have identified yourself as a tortoise while reading this, but believe me, try your luck, push your limits and try to find who are you. Are you a hare or a tortoise? Don’t conclude it soon enough, coming out of cocoon had never been easy for a butterfly, learning to fly had never been easy for a bird, so identifying yourself will not going to be like drinking a cup of coffee. You will fall, you will give up your hope many times. But before giving up just remember why you started. All the best.

A Lucid Dream

In a dream I saw,

I was in woods, dark and dense.

Not much I could see, I got scared,

I heard malignant laughters and horrifying cries.

A pool of hot lava, ferocious animals,

poisonous fangs, atrocious eyes of hungry crocodiles.

I ran very fast, came out to plains.

There was a girl standing on the other side.

I went near to see her face,

dry hot air was blowing,

drying her wet eyes.

I asked her, "Who are you"?

She answered, "An old forgotten friend."

She lowered her beautiful face and then rose again with a captivating smile.

She hugged me tightly, I hugged her back.

I asked again, "tell me your name, I don’t remember you"?

She didn’t answer.

I enquired, "at least tell me, why you were crying?"

"Because you were not here", she replied.

"I am sorry", I said and hugged her again.

She held my hand and asked me to follow her.

She walked towards the same dark place I feared.

A dense forest again, but this time silent.

We continued exploring,

A beautiful lake, we saw, flowers and butterflies,

Swans swimming and deer nibbling small leaves.

Serenity and divinity all around,

in brightness of her face now I could see a paradise.

"I have to leave now", she said.

"Please don't leave!! Stay with me forever?” I requested.

"We will meet again", she promised while landing a kiss.

That sensation I felt, no words can describe.

With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to each other.

I saw her going towards the plains again,

disappearing slowly into the woods.

Her scent I still remember, enchanting and seductive.

Sky turned grey again, I felt hot and humid.

I turned back to see, everything delightful was already gone.

Horrified, I ran again to the plains to see if she was still there,

I tried very hard but failed to find.

"Where are you?” I looked towards the sky and cried.

Sweet melody I heard and her voice asking me to wake up.

My phone was ringing, I picked up the call.

Can't explain the feeling, when I heard the same sweet voice.

The Shrinking Circle

I think everyone, at some age of his life, goes through a phase when s/he feels like removing unwanted people from his life, decreasing the radius of his friend ‘circle’; where s/he intends to keep only those people with whom s/he shares her/his thoughts and feelings. If you are feeling or have felt the same way, then, you may also find yourself in tune with the words to come. If not, I’d rather you still read on because, one day or the other, you may end up in the same spot.

It commenced almost a year ago, when I began finding some people too irritating, too intolerable. Well, I know that the feelings might have been mutual. Anyhow, slowly, each and every thing related to them, big or small, started annoying me, even their activities on Facebook that showed up on my newsfeed. Being left with no other choice, I ‘unfriended’ them (not that we ever were ‘actual friends’, anyway). Secretly, I have this desire to ‘unfriend’ even more people, but I refrain when I think about its long term effects (also, because they are not THAT irritating, YET). So, I simply turn off the “show in newsfeed” option in their profiles.

I began wondering why it was happening. Why, suddenly, the very people I had assumed to be ‘close’ to me had ended up being bothersome to me? Why, suddenly, did they seem insufferable?

After several hours of brainstorming, and, talking to some of my ‘real’ friends, I concluded that the people I found ‘annoying’ had one or more or all of these traits:

1. They are, bluntly put, deceptive. They say something else, and, do something else. Their words do not see eye to eye with their actions.

2. They are too ambitious. Now, don’t get me wrong. Being ambitious is fine. But, like they say, too much of everything... I observed that all that they do, they do for their own interests, even at the cost of others. For me, means never can justify the ends. And, in all honesty, neither their self-centered means nor their self-centered ends are justifiable. Such people are selfish, utterly self-obsessed and full of terrible conceit. They are far removed from basic human values.

3. Some of them just follow the crowd. They follow trends (Twitter trends included :P), blindly. They copy mannerisms, style, anything worth copying, to come across as ‘cool’, ‘cute’, ‘funny’, whatever you will. Nothing is permanent. Imitation, least of all.

4. Then there are people who do not want to be ‘mainstream’. They resort to innumerable antics to seek attention which they so dearly desire, but which hovers on the horizon, out of their grasp, always. Their pathetic attempts win them equally pathetic ‘friends’ (which is, actually, more of a failure). And, hence, ‘not being mainstream’ is ‘too mainstream’ nowadays.

5. They love their ego more than relationships.

6. They have way too many ‘faces’. I discover a new one every time I meet them and have a conversation with them. Their masquerade goes on year long, life long.

7. They present themselves as perfect icons having perfect behavioral skills, clear vision about life, high understanding levels, maturity, etc. Whatever characteristics they have, to whatever the degree (only this funny, only this slim/chubby, only this tall/short, only this outgoing/reserved), that, somehow, is the perfect blend. Anything more or less is a disaster.

8. They always TELL me that they care for me and that they’d do anything for me. But, when such a situation does arise, they flee.

9. In my past I’ve had bad experiences with them. That bad impression suddenly made itself dominant, triggered by some new action that reeked of their actual selfish self.

10. Some are the ones who have betrayed me in the past, or, I have seen them betraying others often.

11. They are frequent liars. Big fat liars. They don’t even feel guilty when they get caught red-handed. Basically, lying is like a second-nature. Something that they keep doing, day in and day out. No big deal. For them.

12. They call me up and/or ask me how I am only when they want a favor. They do it more often than not, and, are insensitive enough to believe that their hollow “Sorry for the inconvenience. Hope you didn’t mind” or “Thanks” will fool me. Basically, they take me for granted.

13. Every time we converse, they just complain about how things or people around are bad. They don’t seem to know that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones at others.

14. They try too hard to be a part of the inner circle of my friends, even when I clearly tell them that I don’t want them there.

15. They are over-inquisitive about my personal life. Also, they do not respect my privacy and make my personal life a topic of gossip (thanks for helping me empathize with the celebrities, though).

16. Their hypocrisy, sycophancy, their belief that they are infallible, their “holier than thou” attitude makes me revolt.

17. Some of them run too much after ‘limelight’. They don’t realize it’s transient. And, attention on Facebook/Twitter/etc. is the kind of ‘limelight’ they die or would kill for.

18. Some are dumb and they don’t accept it. I am not implying that I am very intelligent. Just that whatever you are, you must have the guts to face it. I am not against people who are dumb. I am no Einstein, either. I, at least, know it. They don’t. They pester me with a false sense of their ‘greatness’, a deep-rooted belief in their own ‘intelligence’. No thanks. I’d rather befriend a hamster.

19. They are intolerant. And, they have this ‘confidence’ that they know everything about everything. Hence, they don’t consider it important to listen to anyone else with a different viewpoint. Also, they talk only about things that interest them. Everything else is boring/useless.

20. Whatever falls outside the purview of the limited understanding of their little minds is full of mistakes, is wrong/bad/immoral/unnecessary/unimportant.

Then there are some people that I just don’t like. No rhyme or reason. I am well aware of the fact that this is not their fault. Nonetheless, everything related to them miffs me. It is similar to my aversion to Bhindi. Nothing is wrong with Bhindi, technically. I personally detest it, that’s all.

I know very well that disliking someone is not something positive. Somewhere deep down, the problem may well be within our own selves. But, at that point of time, I was so disturbed that I decided to take a break and put some distance between myself and them. Good for both the parties as it virtually hurt no one.

I have been trying to find a way to overcome this feeling: trying to look for good qualities in them, even if they are few in number, is one of the best solutions while not being judgemental is another. There are many web pages expatiating on the topic ‘How Not To Let People Annoy You’. However, I haven’t been able to arrive at a completely satisfying method, yet.

If I do happen to discover it, I would probably share that as well. Meanwhile, I’ve found it practical and wise to ‘unfriend’ some of them in my real life lest they create a grave negative impact in future. Like they say, prevention is better than cure.

वादें और इरादे (राजनेता और आम आदमी के बीच की वार्तालाप)

राजनेता: देश को आगे बढ़ाएंगे, ग़रीबी और बीमारी हटाएंगे,

खूब फलेगा देश में व्यापार, बस बना दो हमारी सरकार|

देश हमारा अच्छा है, बस अक्ल से थोड़ा कच्चा है,

हम करेंगे इस देश को तैयार, बस बना दो हमारी सरकार|

आदमी: देश तो आगे बढ़ रहा है, पर बर्बादी की राह पे,

फैल रही है भ्रष्टाचार की बीमारी हमसे इस संसार में|

खराब हो रहा हैं इस देश का नाम, क्या करेंगे बना कर सरकार|

राजनेता: हम नयी रोज़गार योजना बनाएंगे,

जो कहे हमे पिछड़ा, उसे हम अपनी मिसाइले दिखाएंगे|

बिछा देंगे हम पानी बिजली का जाल,

बस बन जाने दो हमारी सरकार|

आदमी: रोज़गार योजना बहुत बनाते हो,

पर उसमे अपने रिश्तेदारो को ही दाखिला दिलाते हो|

अंधेरे में जी रहा हैं देश के किसान,
कब से प्यासा हैं देश का जवान,

क्या करोगे बना के सरकार|

राजनेता: देश में फैली शांति होगी,

उन्नति की नयी क्रांति होगी,

बढ़ा देंगे हम सुरक्षा का जाल,

ऐसी होगी हमारी सरकार|

आदमी: शांति का पाठ तुम पढ़ाते,

राम रहीम को तुम लड़वाते,

देश की सुरक्षा का है बुरा हाल,

क्या कर लेगी तुम्हारी सरकार|

राजनेता: हमारी सरकार अलग होगी, हम देश को आगे ले जाएंगे,

सारे देशवासियों को सफलता की नयी राह दिखाएंगे,

उँचाई की चोटी पर होगा ये देश महान,

बस बन जाने दो हमारी सरकार|

आदमी: सब अलग हैं इसी बात का तो गम हैं,

कोई ना समझे इस बात को की एकता में ही दम हैं,

उँचाईया तो बहुत दूर हैं, देश का आम आदमी मजबूर हैं,

बता दे मुझे ओ देश के नेता, इसमे मेरा क्या कसूर हैं?

राजनेता: कसूरवार कोई नही, ये पड़ोसी मुल्क की साजिश हैं,

जलते हैं सब हमसे, ये वक़्त की फरमाइश हैं|

आदमी: महँगाई से देश जल रहा हैं,

सफलता का सूरज, इसीलिए ढल रहा हैं,

अरे यार तू छोड़ इन सबको, कर इन बातों का ध्यान,

कौन रहा कितना पीछे इसपर क्‍यों हैं तेरा ध्यान,

तेरी स्पर्धा खुद से हैं, तू स्थापित कर नयी प्रतिमान|

अपने विगत प्रतिमानो के प्रति स्पर्धा जो मन में जागे,

बढ़ उठते हैं नये कदम अपने ही कदमो के आगे|

राजनेता: विगत प्रतिमानो से ही चल रहा हैं ये देश,

पुराने आदर्श ही हैं हमारे नरेश,

देश की हालत के तुम भी ज़िम्मेदार हो,

ये तुम्हारा भी देश हैं, फिर तुम क्यों ना तैयार हो|

आदमी: बाग के बाग को बीमार बना देती हैं,

भूखे पेटो को राष्ट्रभक्ति सिखाने वालों,

भूख इंसान को गद्दार बना देती हैं|

आरोप प्रत्यारोप नही हैं हल,

हाथ जो थाम ले हो जाएंगे सफल|
चमन को सीचने में पत्तियाँ कुछ झढ़ गयी होंगी,

यही इल्ज़ाम हम पर लग रहा हैं वतन की बेवफ़ाई का,

चमन को रौंद डाला हैं जिन्होने अपने कदमो से,

वो अब बात करते हैं वतन की रहनूमाई का|

कीमती वक़्त (दो EEE विभाग के छात्रो की वार्तालाप)

रमेश : मैं हूँ रमेश और ये हें सुरेश|

सुरेश: कहने को तो हम NIT Trichy के छात्र हैं,

मगर सब कहते हैं की हम इंजिनियर नही,

सिर्फ़ हँसी के पात्र हैं|

रमेश: EEE विभाग में प्रवेश लिया था 4 वर्ष पहले हमने,

देखे ही नही पूरे भी किए बहुत से सपने|

सुरेश: खैर छोडो ये विभाग की बातें,

पहले सुनो हमारी हास्य भरी दास्तानें|

रमेश: प्रथम वर्ष में हमे आविन बड़ा भाया,

मात्र १० रुपये में हमने मिल्कशेक बहुत मचकाया|

सुरेश: प्रथम वर्ष से याद आयीं आई-लब की रातें,

जहाँ बहुत घंटे बिताए थे,

फ़ेसबुक से लेकर ट्विटर तक

सब के अकाउंट वही तो बनाए थे|

रमेश: फ़ेसबुक का नाम ना लो जनाब,

सुनकर हो जाता हैं मन बड़ा खराब|

सुरेश: क्यो भाई, क्या हुआ?

क्या तुम्हारा दिल भी वहाँ किसी पर फ़ना हुआ?

रमेश: कहानी कुछ ऐसी ही हैं भाई,

सोचा था उस हरे सूट वाली को बनाएगे लुगाई,

पर दाँव उल्टा पड़ा और हो गयी उसके मुस्टंडे भाई से पिटाई|

सुरेश: कहानी विस्तार से सूनाओ बालक,

और अगली बार से पिटना नही,

आज से खाना शुरू करो अंडे और पालक|

रमेश: तुम क्या समझोगे, तुमने कौन सी दर्द भरी रातें बिताई हैं,

तुम्हारे स्टेटस पर तो हमेशा छप्पर फाड़ कर comment और like आई है|

सुरेश: चलो जाने दो फ़ेसबुक को तो भाई,

ये बताओ हरे सूट वाली के बाद,

कभी और कोई पसंद आई?

रमेश: पटाने की फ़ुर्सत नही मिली, पसंद तो बहुत आई,

छोड़ेंगे नही उस नास-पीटे सी-आर को जिसने इतनी क्लास लगाई|

सुरेश: कुछ भी कहो, उस सी-आर का नाम ना लो यार,

दूसरे वर्ष में जिस पर दिल आया था, वो करती थी उससे प्यार|

रमेश: हाँ भाई, क्न्याओ की कमी हैं यार,

स्थिति ऐसी जैसे, एक अनार सौ बीमार|

सुरेश: अरे तुम्हे क्या किसी ने लाइब्ररी का हाल सुनाया है,

हमने भी वहाँ गुटरगु करते जोड़ो को बहुत सताया हैं|

रमेश: गुटरगु से याद आए, केम्पस के कुत्ते और गाय,
कभी हम उन्हे और कभी वो हमे दौड़ाए|

सुरेश: दौड़ाने से याद आया, हमारे जूनियर्स का प्यार,

याद हैं तुम्हे जब चढ़ा था तुम्हे भी रेगिंग लेने का बुखार|

रमेश: अरे हाँ! जूनियर्स को बहुत चिकनी चमेली पे नचाया था,

९० से लेकर १८० तक सभी कोनो पे झुकाया था|

सुरेश: चिकनी चमेली से याद आया वो प्रोफेसर जो लड़कियों जैसे चलता था,

जब वो अदायों से बातें करता था, उसके मुड़ते ही, पूरा क्लास उसपे हँसता था|

रमेश: नाम ना ले उस धूर्त्ती का, उसने बहुत वॉट लगाई है,

जिस लेब मैं जहाँ 'S' ग्रेड मिलना था, वहाँ ससुरा 'E' ग्रेड आई है|

सुरेश: E ग्रेड से याद आया, campus का दवाखाना,

भाई पेट दर्द हो या हो आँख फड़फड़ाई,

इतना जान लो, मिलेगी, एक ही सर दर्द की दवाई|

रमेश: चल मेरे भाई, पेट में चूहे कूद रहे,

Mess पास ही हैं, क्यो ना वही चले|

सुरेश: Mess हम ना जायेंगे, सेहत की फ़िक्र हैं हमे,

While coming out of the bathroom, my eyes went towards a mirror and I stopped for a while to look into it. I saw the pimple marks on my face. Damn, they aren’t fading away. Anyway, I walked into my room and sat on the bed facing a wall. I noticed the dirty marks on it appeared to be made because of the cello tape used by predecessors of this room. I thought isn’t it a normal phenomenon that even a single smallest stain on a white bedsheet attracts more attention than rest of the whiteness. Does that small stain really ruins the purity of the whole damn bedsheet? Then I was hit by the idea that don’t we have a habit of pointing out every possible bad in things rather than appreciating rest of the good in them. We all do it, I was doing it for so long but realized today. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each one of us learn to appreciate the good in each other rather than fighting over the bad or things which appears unpleasant to us? Here I got the solution to some of my problems related to dealing with a few people living around me.

I had already started to think about making peace with them but then I started cursing my luck for getting stuck in such a place. But then I thought about its benefits too. It seems God was too merciful today. What happened was, all these reminded me of a lesson given by my mother. Once we were preparing some food items for my birthday party and she said while putting sugar in kheer, “You cook ten items but even if one item goes wrong your hard work for rest of the 9 items goes in vain too. People will forget to appreciate those rest of nine just because of that one item.”
This keeps happening in our lives too. We might have hundreds of things and reasons to be happy for, but we keep cursing our circumstances and luck just for not having one thing and make ourselves sad. Got my lesson number two for the day. Now it was becoming too much for me and it was raining outside so I took my umbrella and decided to have a walk through the hostel area. I saw an Indian Roller taking a flight near Lapis, magnificent it was.Saw some other birds too, as during this time of year, a lot of birds migrate here to spend winter. आँखे खुली मेरी जब देखा मैने आसमाँ की ओर

होश संभाला जब से मैने, खुद को घिरा हुआ सा पाया,

The Gardener

This is my first attempt to write a short story......

While standing outside a huge mansion, he was staring that tree from a long time. Seem to be lost in memories, he was having no expression on his face. In my eyes, that tree doesn’t have anything special besides having good number of leaves and some fruits too. But I was anxious about that man and asked him about his state. He was silent for a while, took a deep breath and was silenced again. This has fired up my anxiety and made me to ask him again.
He replied “this is a mango tree. Do you know what is so special about a mango tree?”
I said “it gives mango what else?”
He laughed mysteriously and said, “mango tree takes a long time to give first yield of fruits, it grows, expand and then after few years it starts its outpour of sweetness.”
I felt this isn’t about some botanical features of trees as he was a gardener by profession, but something related to his emotions. I knew him quite well as he used to come at our house fortnightly to trim grass and other plants. I asked him, “is there something which you are hiding Kaka?”
He was again silent for a while and then asked me, “do you really have time to listen?” I nodded.

He started pointing towards the mansion, “once there was time, when I used to be a gardener in that mansion. Those people liked me and my work a lot. I have worked there since this mansion was built and there were no big standing trees, flower beds and green mats of grass. I worked hard to develop this garden of my dreams.” He stopped again but this time with two drops of water under his eyes.

He continued, ”a time came when owner became bankrupt and had nothing to pay for my work, but I always saw this garden as my child thus I worked there without wages. Days changed, and my dream was taking a shape in the real world, owner earned a big profit that season and gave me my salary with bonus. ”.

His voice was becoming heavy but he again started, ”one day owner said to me that he always wanted to have a mango tree in his garden which can give delicious mangoes and shade to his children during summer. Cuckoos and other birds and sit on that tree and sing melodies of nature. I was excited too. But later I was disappointed as soil was not at all suitable for a mango tree. But I saw in his eyes a dream and I made it my ambition. And that day I planted a mango seed.” He looked back at tree, and then at sky and then back in my eyes. I felt a cold wave shivering me when he did that.

He continued, “a day came when the first two small leaves with a small stem came out from that hopeless ground”. He smiled and started, ”that day I was very happy and started taking care of that plant with lots of enthusiasm as I was heading towards fulfilling my masters dream. That plant was like my own child. Days, weeks, and months passed and plant has grown up to my waist.”

He looked at me, thought of something and started moving towards a nearby shop. By this time, I was convinced of the fact that there is really something which is pricking in this old man’s heart. I asked him to complete, but he said he will do it on a cost if I promise him that I will never share this story with anyone. Keeping my fingers crossed I promised him. He asked me to come next day in the evening. I smiled back and came to home. I couldn’t sleep that night as I was amazed that what it could be which is bothering him so much. With lots of questions and thoughts in my mind I slept that night.

Next evening, I ran to his house to listen the whole story but he wasn’t there. His wife told that he didn’t come back from his work yet. She was worried too. Suddenly she got a call from nearby hospital that her husband met an accident and is in a serious condition. We ran toward that hospital. He had a major injury on his head, which has caused his half of the body to get paralyzed. He asked me to come near to him. He said that he will complete his promise before dying and laughed. I felt guilty with his laughter, as I thought that he must be thinking I must have come to visit him in the hospital just to know the story.
He started whispering slowly, “once I did a huge mistake, I trimmed a very costly grass plantation roughly which had made that plantation to get completely dried. It was surely my fault because I was doing it quite carelessly as my whole consciousness was on that mango plant those days. I felt guilty for it, however my master had already forgiven me but still I was drowning in the ocean of guilt as for him it was just a garden but for me It was my dream growing on mother earth. Don’t know why but I left the job and came back to village. I didn’t do gardening since then.”
This made me reminded the day, when Kaka suddenly went to his village some years ago and didn’t come back for a long time.

I started paying attention to his words again but missed some part of them which must been talking about his stay in village without work,” ……I came to city again but unable to start gardening again. Years passed, I changed my occupation many times but inside I still had a heart of a gardener. One day while passing through that mansion I felt numb, I saw that small plant has grown up into a big and strong tree. I was happy and sad, happy because that tree was my child, sad because I abandoned that child in a very delicate state. I never had child ever as my wife couldn’t bear one, I always saw my own child in that plant and one day I suddenly abandoned my own child.” I could see the tears flooding from his small eyes, he continued after a pause,” That child has grown into such a big tree standing tall with dense leaves, strong branches, and loaded with fruits. I wanted to run inside the garden and embrace him but……………..”
Suddenly I heard a long beep and then it was silence, a long and cold silence. I can remember just some cries after that.

We all sow a tree in form of our dream. We water it with our efforts and hard work. But often due to some circumstances we try to run away from ourselves and in that run we forget about the plant which we left uncared. When we come back and find somebody else had taken that opportunity to build that dream into reality and enjoying the fruits, we just stare at that tree with guilt and regrets in our heart. Never leave your dream alone, never.

Fun things to do at home........

I was again getting bored at home but wait my mind told me to do something which I have never tried out before. Some stupid things and some ugly stuff (don’t misunderstand me). Well my brain started charging with thoughts how to make this stay at home fun filled and thus I came with following points about how to make your vacations awesome:

> Get up early in the morning around 3:30 am. Now make tea for your siblings and wake them up. If they resist call them lazy and pour a bucket of water on them.

>Paint the faces of your house mates in a weird way. Take pictures and enjoy.

>Cry out loud abusing one of your classmate.

> On a loud music, dance weirdly to irritate your neighbors. If they ask you to stop, make excuse that you are doing your daily yoga which includes loud sound reception to clean ears.

>If you have a pet, dress him and do a makeover. Cut their hairs in a different way. If you have a cat, try cutting her whiskers.

>Play blues or opera loud. Tell you are sad about your last hairstyle and lost hairs.

> Dress up like a superhero! Put your underwear on your pants and take a towel and tie it around your neck like a cape. Now run around your house as if you are on a rescue mission, like you are going to rescue the ice-cream in the fridge or something. You can also leave your hair open, put a table fan near the edge of your bed, lie on the bed and pretend you are flying.

>Stare at your mom, keep staring. When she gets irritated, laugh out loud. Try with different people.

>Open social networking sites, for example facebook. It is the time to spam walls and inbox of your friends.

>Text random/unknown numbers, saying you miss him/her very much. Reply them in serious way.

>Collect some money buy/cook a wonderful meal for your siblings and parents. You may give them some gifts as well.

>Try reading newspaper upside down. Tell your parents this is a new way of memory enhancement.

>Take a 15cms scale now start measuring length and breadth of your house.

>Yell out loud to God. Groan, act confused when people ask if you are OK.

>Switch ON discovery channel. Mute the channel, now laugh. This will irritate your siblings and then you start fight for remote.

>Dial customer care numbers from the back of cereal box or other products. Ask them random questions.

> Get an astrology book and read out loud horoscopes for each family members zodiac sign. Now keep calling them at random hours, asking them to be careful.

>Pretend you are sick, ask for some junk food. Next day show them how eating a burger makes you healthy.

>Ask oldies about their experience with the life. Believe me they have great stories to share.

>Try eating without hands.

>Go to a random restaurant. Order some costly dishes, eat a little. Now pretend like you have been poisoned.

>Don’t have a pet? No problem. Take a cardboard box, draw eyes, ears, etc. and decorate it. Now tie a string to it and roam in a nearby park. Make people think that higher education is making you crazy.

>Go out in a park and greet strangers. If they ask your identity, make sad face and leave. Make them crazy for rest of the day.

>Well this one is bit risky. Ask your parents embarrassing questions.

> Don’t speak to anyone whole day. When asked, make faces like you are mad at him/her.

My mind is blabbering out more but its already 25 points up here, and I don’t want to make you feel bored.

Being at home is the most wonderful time when semester ends, lots of love and care from parents and my sister. Well enjoy your stay at home and happy vacations.

Mess up with Mess

Mess according to dictionary means ‘dirty and untidy state of condition’ or ‘a confused and problematic situation’. That is all good but the problem starts when your hostel committee takes this meaning quite sincerely and make a commitment to follow the exact definition. It means a lot to me what is being served in my plate when I am in full mood of giving some time for my most favorite hobby ‘eating’. For some people like me, chewing is the only exercise we perform with a heart full of dedication towards it.

I remember the first day of my college when my father and I went to mess first time. Well that day itself I decided to avoid coming at this SACRED place. All of you already know the condition of mess food so let us don’t waste our time with that and start with the points HOW TO MESS WITH MESS?

>If you don’t like an item getting served more often in a week. Start gossiping around how eating this item so much causes IMPOTENCY.

>Take T-shirts with you, if some item is limited (good items are always limited) change the Tee and get it again.

>Always talk loud in mess, try catching attention of people. Now start bitching about mess manager.

>Eat too much outside, get a stomach upset. Now blame mess food to be the reason.

>Take your pet/stray animal inside the mess. If somebody opposes threaten them that you will call PETA people.

>Take a cockroach or iron nail with you. Suddenly while taking food start shouting that you found it in the food.

>Throw plates here and there and make noise. Tell them this is sound therapy, which helps in increasing your appetite.

>Take an erotic sound track and play it loud (nobody will come this time to oppose you :P).

>Spread a rumor that cook doesn’t wash his hand after using toilet. Try making a fake video.

>Take a friend from other campus, make him act like a food and health officer. Try making money by throwing fines on mess manager.

>Call for a Mass Mess Bunk.

>Buy some rotten tomatoes and eggs from outside, go secretly in the store room and take pictures like they were there only. Post these pictures on notice board and copy to director.

>Run here and there inside the mess making weird sounds. Tell this advised by a doctor for digestion.

>During night paint the walls of mess with lots of abuses. Next day behave you hate the person who did that.

>Scream! Behave as you are about to die due to food chocked inside.

>Take a bottle fill it with water of swimming pool. Now send it as a sample of cooking water to food and health organization of your city.

>Reach mess early. Add lot of salt to the worst items.

>Accuse mess manager to be a black magician, who controls the students by adding something in their food.

>Turn off the power supply to mess, throw away the fuse.

>Chose the table with a person having jar of pickle. Serve lot of pickle in your plate. It will be better if you don’t know the person because he will not say anything. Try out with different people each time.

I have observed many people eating mess food and glorifying it. Number of students visiting this place increases exponentially during exams. In fact I see some new faces whenever during these days. Thus sometimes causes shortage causes shortage as well (O.o ).
Anyway I myself respect food a lot. There are many unprivileged people who do not even get any food to eat. So disrespecting the food is a sin in my eyes. So I have decided to reduce my visits to mess to avoid any more sin.

50 Fun Things to do at an Exam

1. Bring a pillow. Fall asleep (or pretend to) until the last 15 minutes. Wake up, say "oh geez, better get cracking" and do some gibberish work. Turn it in a few minutes early.
2. Get a copy of the exam, run out screaming "Andre, Andre, I've got the secret documents!!"
3. If it is a math/science exam, answer in essay form. If it is long answer/essay form, answer with numbers and symbols. Be creative. Use the integral symbol.
4. Make paper airplanes out of the exam. Aim them at the instructor's left nostril.
5. Talk the entire way through the exam. Read questions aloud, debate your answers with yourself out loud. If asked to stop, yell out, "I'm SOOO sure you can hear me thinking." Then start talking about what a jerk the instructor is.
6. Bring cheerleaders.
7. Walk in, get the exam, sit down. About five minutes into it, loudly say to the instructor, "I don't understand ANY of this. I've been to every lecture all semester long! What's the deal? And who the hell are you? Where's the regular guy?"
8. Bring a Game Boy (or Game Gear, etc...). Play with the volume at max level.
9. On the answer sheet (book, whatever) find a new, interesting way to refuse to answer every question. For example: I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it conflicts with my religious beliefs. Be creative.
10. Bring pets.
11. Run into the exam room looking about frantically. Breathe a sigh of relief. Go to the instructor, say "They've found me, I have to leave the country" and run off.
12. Fifteen minutes into the exam, stand up, rip up all the papers into very small pieces, throw them into the air and yell out "Merry Christmas." If you're really daring, ask for another copy of the exam. Say you lost the first one. Repeat this process every fifteen minutes.
13. Do the exam with crayons, paint, or fluorescent markers.
14. Come into the exam wearing a pair of birkenstocks, and nothing else.
15. Come down with a BAD case of Tourette's Syndrome during the exam. Be as vulgar as possible.
16. Do the entire exam in another language. If you don't know one, make one up! For math/science exams, try using Roman numerals.
17. Bring things to throw at the instructor when s/he's not looking. Blame it on the person nearest to you.
18. As soon as the instructor hands you the exam, eat it.
19. Walk into the exam with an entourage. Claim you are going to be taping your next video during the exam. Try to get the instructor to let them stay, be persuasive. Tell the instructor to expect a percentage of the profits if they are allowed to stay.
20. Every five minutes, stand up, collect all your things, move to another seat, continue with the exam.
21. Turn in the exam approximately 30 minutes into it. As you walk out, start commenting on how easy it was.
22. Do the entire exam as if it was multiple choice and true/false. If it is a multiple choice exam, spell out interesting things (DCCAB, BABE, etc..).
23. Bring a black marker. Return the exam with all questions and answers completely blacked out.
24. Get the exam. Twenty minutes into it, throw your papers down violently, scream out "Screw this!" and walk out triumphantly.
25. Arrange a protest before the exam starts (i.e. Threaten the instructor that whether or not everyone's done, they are all leaving after one hour to go drink).
26. Show up completely drunk. (Completely drunk means at some point during the exam, you should start crying for mommy).
27. Every now and then, clap twice rapidly. If the instructor asks why, tell him/her in a very derogatory tone, "the light bulb that goes on above my head when I get an idea is hooked up to a clapper. DUH!"
28. Comment on how sexy the instructor is looking that day.
29. Come to the exam wearing a black cloak. After about 30 minutes, put on a white mask and start yelling "I'm here, the phantom of the opera" until they drag you away.
30. Go to an exam for a class you have no clue about, where you know the class is very small, and the instructor would recognize you if you belonged. Claim that you have been to every lecture. Fight for your right to take the exam.
31. Upon receiving the exam, look it over, while laughing loudly, say "you don't really expect me to waste my time on this drivel? Days of our Lives is on!!!"
32. Bring a water pistol with you. Nuff said.
33. From the moment the exam begins, hum the theme to Jeopardy. Ignore the instructor's requests for you to stop. When they finally get you to leave one way or another, begin whistling the theme to the Bridge on the River Kwai.
34. Start a brawl in the middle of the exam.
35. If the exam is math/science related, make up the longest proofs you could possibly think of. Get pi and imaginary numbers into most equations.
36. Come in wearing a full knight's outfit, complete with sword and shield.
37. Bring a friend to give you a back massage the entire way through the exam. Insist this person is needed, because you have bad circulation.
38. Bring cheat sheets FROM ANOTHER CLASS (make sure this is obvious... like history notes for a calculus exam... otherwise you're not just failing, you're getting kicked out, too) and staple them to the exam with the comment "Please use the attached notes for references as you see fit."
39. When you walk in, complain about the heat. Strip.
40. After you get the exam, call the instructor over, point to any question, ask for the answer. Try to work it out of him/her.
41. One word: Wrestlemania.
42. Bring balloons, blow them up, start throwing them around like they do before concerts start.
43. Try to get people in the room to do the wave.
44. Play frisbee with a friend at the other side of the room.
45. Bring some large, cumbersome, ugly idol. Put it right next to you. Pray to it often. Consider a small sacrifice.
46. Get deliveries of candy, flowers, balloons, telegrams, etc... sent to you every few minutes throughout the exam.
47. During the exam, take apart everything around you. Desks,
chairs, anything you can reach.
48. Complete the exam with everything you write being backwards at a 90 degree angle.
49. Bring a musical instrument with you, play various tunes. If you are asked to stop, say "it helps me think." Bring a copy of the Student Handbook with you, challenging the instructor to find the section on musical instruments during finals. Don't forget to use the phrase "Told you so".
50. Answer the exam with the "Top Ten Reasons Why Professor xxxx Sucks".

A simple key to bust out your stress

I have attended so many seminars on stress management, so many workshops, so many books I read but never found an exact solution for stress.
Yesterday I happened to read a verse from Bhagvad Gita, in the purport of which Srila Prabhupada was saying that only God has the potency to satisfy each and everyone thus He is God, we cannot imitate him because we are limited. So we cannot satisfy each and every one around us, so we should think and get stressed unnecessarily that I am not able to satisfy others, I am of no use. None of us has that potency, only God can do that.
This few lines gave me a great key to bust out any kind of stress which may come due to not being up to the expectations of others.

When a person is at his home for a long term vacations, it is quite obvious that he will get bored in few days. That so was happening with me until he made the comment, “all of us write our own destiny”. This statement made me to thought for a while but I never knew that I am going to do that much brain shagging on it.

I started with asking question to myself that am I actually writing my own destiny? Or it is God who decides. Then I look back in my past and I found yes, it was me who made all those choices because of which I am what I am. I thought again and found each one of us have choices at every stage of life, or we can say life is a series of choices. Whatever we choose today also influence the choices we will make tomorrow. But here I got stuck once again, if the choices we are making today are going to influence our tomorrow then sometimes it may be possible that we actually mayl not have any choice. Yes that’s true. We sometimes get forced to react in a certain way due to our conditionings or the choices we made yesterday or last month or last year or possibly last life too. For an example, suppose a person makes a choice to do a theft, what made him to do a theft may be a genuine reason but still he had the choice there, but after doing thievery he doesn’t have any choice to just stand there and wait for the police to come, it appears so but actually he still has a choice. Sometimes all the choices may not be in our favor but they may mend the way our next choices will come, and they may later lead to provide favorable choices as well. He may decide to stand still there and get caught and his destiny get decided. For a while just stop here and look back, as soon as he decided for theft, his next destiny was fixed. Just think, still he had too many choices in between he decided for theft and get caught, like he may choose to take a route such that he reaches at a moment when somebody may be there to watch upon the shop or he may board a certain vehicle which had weak tires and get punctured in between so he may not reach at all, the way he enters the shop, the way he do his work everything determines what will be his final choice. But don’t forget I mentioned our way of making choices also depends on our way of thinking. And what determine our way of thinking are the choices we made in the past. How? To understand this let us assume that I am in XI std and I have to decide my stream. I have certain options and I chose to take PCM + economics. Now as soon as I chose these subjects I get another set of choices, whether to understand the concepts or just cram it somehow. If I choose to understand the concepts my brain starts thinking in a different way than the latter option. Now I have been given the task to measure the height of school building, if I would have chose to learn mathematics properly, I ought to do this using trigonometry, but if I am more physics oriented I get another choice, I may drop down an object and measure the time it takes to hit the ground, or if I would just have cram the things I might have chose to take a barometer and measure the pressure difference between the two levels which is certainly an unpractical approach. And if I would have chosen some other stream I might have been trying to look for such a long measuring tape. Thus how we think, how we decide and how we approach a problem is found to be dependent on our past choices, experiences and knowledge. But I will again consider only past choices because ultimately we only choose to pass through a particular experience or to gain knowledge. So we may call these actions of making choices as our Karma. Actually karma includes both our decisions and the actions. Now as Newton’s third law there is a law which is called as ‘law of karma’. This solves our problem of “Jaisi karni waisi bharni” or “as you sow, so shall you reap”. The law works for the choices we made in the last life, which certainly affects current life as well. But here one may ask that I have never done anything wrong throughout my life then why the hell all wrong is happening to me. The answer is quite simple, because of the deeds we have done in our last life. So even if we are doing something good today, we first have to suffer our last actions. It is like harvest, if you have grew bad crop last time you have to consume it first even if you have grown the finest crop this time. As soon as older get consume, all good will come to you only.
But here comes another question if we are the makers of our own destiny then where God comes into picture, this may lead us to think ourselves as God. And if God doesn’t come into the picture then there is no need to fear the GOD. But if somebody continue thinking like that even after reading the text work below, he is nothing more than a DOG.
To understand this we should know the definition of God first, God by definition is Supreme Controller, so if He is supreme controller, then He may control our destiny as well, even if one had already made a choice. But generally He doesn’t do that because he doesn’t interfere with our free will. He doesn’t interfere because He loves us, and if a person loves someone he gives him freedom. But due to His extraordinary love, sometimes He interfere with our choices, even if we had made a wrong choice he moulds the situations such that we are given another set of choices, which contains an option to settle all turbulence. This is same as our parents does, they give options, but sometimes out of love, they force us to do a work, which we may not like but it might be good for us to do. Still we always had an option to dis-agree them and argue them back. But results of which may not be less than a disaster. Similarly in some cases if you don’t follow the right choice provided by God, results can be dangerous. He may even try to give you good advice in the form of inner Voice as Paramatma. You may also experience this many times. Still it is always up-to us to follow that or not.
So in conclusion, I would like to say, keep praying to God for yourself and for me too, that he may keep giving us good advices and keep helping us in our trying situations. He is the one who loves us the most and in return he expects nothing but love………………………………………………………………………………………………………keep loving God.

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband,dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly without an appointment into the president of Harvard's outer office.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard and probably didn't even deserve to be in Cambridge.

She frowned. "We want to see the president," the man said softly. "He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped. "We'll wait," the lady replied. For hours, the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away.

They didn't. And the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted to do. "Maybe if they just see you for a few minutes, they'll leave," she told him.

And he sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, but he detested gingham dresses and homespun suits cluttering up his outer office. The president, stern-faced with dignity, strutted toward the couple.

The lady told him, "We had a son that attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. And my husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him, somewhere on campus."

The president wasn't touched, he was shocked. "Madam," he said gruffly. "We can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery". "Oh, no," the lady explained quickly. "We don't want to erect a statue.

We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard." The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical plant at Harvard." For a moment the lady was silent.

The president was pleased. He could get rid of them now. And the lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it costs to start a University? Why don't we just start our own?" Her husband nodded.

The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment. And Mr. And Mrs. Leland Stanford walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California where they established the University that bears their name, a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.

before executing i planned so vast,
i will do what i want.
going against the principles of prabhupada,
i forgot,i was on the wrong path.

i was trying to walk on macadam,
but i forgot who i am.
tried to be oversmart,
gave myself a heavy start.

plans started getting gaggled,
no effort was making worth.
i was taken aback how this occured
now wanted to make things abate,
unable i was to handle that.
suddenly i have just realised,
for all this bane,
who is behind.

he is the Supreme Personality of God,
stopping me for doing anything wrong.
still i was trying to control,
fool i was thinking i am the Lord.

finally things were not in hand,
then i remembered him known as Bhagwan.
he first taught me the lesson i forgot,
later He took charge of the thorny boulevard.

yes, he knew what had to be done,
made the scene like nothing had happened.
He is the controller i forgot,
