Recently, I installed Windows 7 using Windows 7 DVD created using using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and I was hit by an error message and was able to Solve “BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart” Error while Trying to Boot Windows 7.

After settling down with Windows 7, I was surprised to see that Quick Launch was missing from Windows 7 Taskbar

Where is Quick Launch in Windows 7?

It seems that Microsoft have deprecated Quick Launch from Windows 7. But, there is a good news for all quick launch bar lovers like me. One can add Quick Launch bar in Windows 7 using the below hack.

How to add Quick Launch Bar to Taskbar in Windows 7

Unlock the Taskbar if it is locked.
Right Click on an empty area of the taskbar and choose Toolbars -> New Toolbar…
Now you will see an Dialog box like below, now copy the below path and paste it in the dialog box and click on “Select Folder” button.
%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
You will see a Quick Launch appearing in Windows 7 Taskbar.
Now right-click on the Quick Launch Bar and select Show Text and Show Title to disable it.

It is upto you. But, i don’t like both Title and Text to appear
Look at below, you will see the Quick Launch Bar in Windows 7

Solution to “BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart” Error while Trying to Boot Windows 7

Yesterday, i installed Windows 7 Operating System on my Desktop Computer using Windows 7 DVD. I created Windows 7 DVD using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. The installation was quick and everything went fine.

After installation completed, I installed Windows 7 Drivers. As always, after installing any drivers we need to restart the PC.

I was surprised to see an error while my Desktop computer was booting up.

BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

The above error came up after installing Windows 7. I was surprised to see this. My initial reaction was “Whether my Hard Drive is showing signs of wear and tear”.

I tried pressing “Ctrl+Alt+Del” and rebooted the PC, but no success end up with the same error message.

I then used my Lappy to find out the solution to BOOTMGR is missing Error in Windows 7 in Google.

I was happy to find the solution and solve the issue. I am now sharing the same with you all.

First of all, Let me tell you the cause of this. If you have two hard Drives connected to your PC and you tried to Install Windows 7 on Secondary IDE or Secondary SATA. It will write the BOOTMGR on primary Harddrive.

I was doing the same thing. I installed Windows 7 on Hard Drive that was connected on Secondary IDE.

Do the following to resolve BOOTMGR is missing in Windows 7

Take Windows 7 DVD or Windows 7 USB and boot your computer with it. Press a key when you are prompted to boot PC with Windows 7 DVD or USB
When Windows 7 completes loading Setup Files. It will ask you to select the language, time and currency. Select it and Click Next
On the next screen, you will see Install Now. But, below you will see “Repair your computer”. Select that.
Now Windows 7 will try to check for the problems in Windows 7, before that it will search for Windows 7 Installation Drive
After few seconds or minutes, it will show the problems and you should see the Problem related to Boot
It will repair the Boot Record by placing the BOOTMGR properly.

Follow the above steps, i am sure you will be able to resolve the BOOTMGR is missing issue.

My Windows 7 Installation Failed and Hanged at 62% – Upgrade from Vista

Yesterday, I was upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio Laptop. The installation of Windows 7 suddenly stopped. I first thought that, it will start. But, after sometime i was sure that Windows 7 Installation Hanged. Windows 7 Installation stopped and Hanged at 62%.

I then restarted the Laptop. But, again Windows 7 Installation failed and hanged at 62%. It was strange.

I then tried to find the solution on the Internet via Google God. I was happy to find a solution. I would like to share the solution with my readers on this blog.

If you look into setupact.log, you should be seeing the following error message which is repeated every 15 minutes is logged:

Warning [0x080b50] MIG AsyncCallback_ApplyStatus: Progress appears to be stuck. Current progress: 62

It turns out that the cause of the problem is because of iphlpsvc service. iphlpsvc service hangs during the upgrade.

Solution to Windows 7 Installation stopping and hanging at 62% – Upgrade from Vista

If you find similar problem where your Windows 7 installation hungs at 62%, Try the following to remove that error and successfully upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista

Reboot the computer and the setup will automatically rollback the system to Windows Vista.
Click Start, and right-click Computer.
Click Properties, and then click Advanced System Settings.
Click Environment Variables.
Under System Variables, click New, and then press ENTER.
Type in the following variable information:
Variable Name: MIG_UPGRADE_IGNORE_PLUGINS
Variable value: IphlpsvcMigPlugin.dll
Restart Windows 7 Setup.

As part of the ongoing Indo-US Defense Cooperation, a largest ever Indo-US Joint Army Exercise YUDH ABHYAS The aim of this exercise to conduct a joint Indo-US training exercise under the framework of agreed joint training program for sharing useful experience in Peace Keeping operations and humanitarian the disaster relief situations. The scope of the exercise is to conduct Indo – US joint training exercise with Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism focus in a semi urban setup. This is a training exercise, to learn from each other’s experience in similar type of military operations.ABHYAS 09, is being carried out at Babina near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh District of India from 12 to 29 Oct 2009.

A highlight about this exercise is that US Army has shipped 17 “Strykers”, its most modern armored fighting vehicle. Besides Iraq and Afghanistan, US has not used strykers in any other country. This exercise will be a series of drills where in Indian T-90’s similar to American US M1 Abrams and BMP’s are joining Strykers in the war games.

“Earlier, I didn’t know the Indians had a mechanized force of this magnitude with so much of a rich tradition,” This is what Sgt Logan Anderson; An US Army officer had to say after a few drills.

“Since this unit of the Indian Army is mechanized and we are a Stryker unit, I am really looking forward to how we are going to maneuver together.” An US Army officer from Stryker team said.

“This exercises are also to promote mutual trust and understanding through the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures and associated logistics support. Exposure to highly technical-based weapons, equipment and systems would form part of the three-week-long effort,”

The above are some of the newspapers headlines related to tension building between INDIA and CHINA. These are a result of rise in

(a) Chinese claims of Indian Border Regions

(b) Incursions of Chinese soldiers on Indian border

Some believe that the incursions are a result of Border issues both the countries have not been able to solve since more than 40 years resulting in lack of proper demarcation. In the recent years there have been 13 rounds of talks regarding border, which have yielded no results. Though New Delhi have downplayed the incursion citing demarcations reasons and Beijing has declined direct comment.

Indian media and some military seniors reported rise in Chinese incursions. Indian Military protested the incursions and responded by reopening airbase near china border and landing a Military plane on a forward, remote high altitude air field demonstrating its ability to move its soldiers on the frontline.

However according to Experts and Think Tanks believe China’s aggression on Indian border is direct result of “Beijing’s nervousness over India’s rise.”

This was also seen when Beijing tried to scuttle India’s Civil Nuclear Deal, at the Nuclear Supplier’s Group Meeting indicating that china is not completely comfortable with India’s rise on the world stage. Analysts and experts believe that china is catching up to the idea that it has a competitor in Asia, coming in its way of becoming a world power. So all the incidents happening on the border including Ladakh are directly resulting from Chinese desire to be a dominant power of this region. China has also beefed up its military infrastructure closed to Indian borders.

An Indian Analyst recently announced in the press that china might attack india by 2012. All the recent developments indicate the China is increasingly nervous about india’s rise and doing deliberately everything it can, from scuttling Nuclear Deal, coming in the way of international financial organizations loan grants for Indian border state developments. India’s has to deal with china prudently to eliminate threats and continue to rise on the world’s economic stage.
