ESB has recently announced its second round of "Great Electric Drive" opportunities. The company is currently looking for 24 ambassadors to drive electric cars for a 4 month period.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in technology and a mode of transport that seems very much biased towards a better environment. If you think you have what it takes to be an ambassador, you can apply for a place directly through a simple online application form.

Have a look at this website for more details.

At a class last Monday, I was talking about how one method that countries can use to decrease environmental damage is to cut subsidies to activities such as the extractive industry while creating green incentives such as subsidies for renewable energy initiatives.

Well, in the realm of energy and the environment, nothing is ever straightforward is it?

I came across an example in the Guardian today, which outlines how a government-lead subsidy for creating hydro-electric power in Romania has created an environmental problem of its own.

Have a read through this article for the full story.

I just found an interesting (and short!) article on Life Cycle Analysis that will be of interest to my students on the Environmental Management module.

You can find the article at this link

carried out in a low risk manner, when proper regulations are in place.
This report goes against popular opinion on the dangers of fracking, and
for that reason alone it is worth a read. You can find an article about
the report at this link.

Scary Surveying Stories

I
follow a group called Land Surveyors United online. It's a resource
that is well worth checking out if you're interested in mapping at all.
The Group can be found at this link.

For
the Halloween period, the group has started a discussion on scary
things that can happen to surveyors. It's worth a look. It reminded me
of times gone past where the odd shotgun would be pulled on a surveyor
when a land owner got anxious...but that's a story for another time!
Check out the discussion at this link.
