"Magical." "Revolutionary." "Stunning." "Awe-inspiring." "Stupendous." "Tubular." "Gnarly." "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." With so many events now confirmed on our calendar, it feels like a good time to brush up on our hyperboles. After all, here's the list as we see it: Google I/O, CTIA, Xbox, WWDC, E3 (which includes Microsoft and Sony press conferences, along something lower-key from Nintendo), and that's just the next two months.

So there's that, and then there's this big little phone called the Galaxy S4 that all the people seem to be talking about. And we are mostly people, so it feels only natural to utter those words in some capacity today.

This just in: all cameras in The Vergecast studio have been replaced with drones. Drones with their own AI-driven personalities. They're curious, they're nosy, they're surprisingly stable. If you see a drone, do not panic. Approach slowly, let it warm up to you first. If the drone is watching The Vergecast, please let it be. Do not startle it — our feed will look terrible and, to be perfectly honest, those little helicopter blades are kind of painful.

In the meantime, don't think about holidays. Think about Josh, Nilay, and Paul. Think about them sitting around a table and having wild conversations about everything and nothing in particular. Keep thinking, and if you think really hard, it might just happen this afternoon.

If BlackBerry doesn't want to be called Research in Motion anymore, maybe The Vergecast should take that brand instead. Let's not worry about legalities for now and just brainstorm for a bit. It's research... and it's always in motion. We're always in motion — we are beholden to the linear passage of time, of course. But is our "research" happening in motion? Maybe it's not "research" so much as it is "shenanigans." Maybe we can just buy part of the name — "in motion," which is 2/3 of the words, 3/5 of the syllables, and 1/2 of the letters (spaces not included) - and call it "Shenanigans in Motion."

Eh, you know what? The Vergecast isn't half bad. Let's stick with it.

This is the end, my only friend, the end.

But not the end of the world — not even the end of our daily print publication, 90 Pages on The Verge on College-Ruled Notebook Paper (with a readership of approximately three mothers to staff writers). It's just the end of the year for The Vergecast, the last before we take the 2012 calendars down and put up a 2013 calendar (or, for those who like to recycle, calendars from the years 2002, 1991, 1985, 1974, 1963, 1957, 1946, 1935, 1929, 1918, 1907, 1901, and so on and so forth...). Josh and Nilay took a week off to spend time with families, which has given them plenty of time to gather thoughts about the latest in Facebook and Instagram privacy fears.

There was also time to reflect, poetically, on what CES means for 2013 and beyond — we'll be there in full force, of course, but with a new outlook on life. All this and more plus Ross Miller filling in for Paul (his Offline Terms of Service stipulates against Google+ Hangouts [okay, maybe that joke is a little mean ]).

On this the 12th day of the 12th month of the 12th year of the first century of the second millennium, the Vergecasters decide to take a break from their tiny midtown studio and venture out to meet the people — the people, who up to this point have only been able to listen to / watch The Vergecast through the magic of the Internet from the comfort of their own homes. They have traveled from near and far to celebrate the holidays and to meet the minds behind their favorite tech site... okay, they probably just came for the free booze, but anyways, it was a magical night that will not be forgotten for at least a few days.

On this week's Vergecast Josh, Nilay, and Paul broadcast live from The Verge's holiday party at the Angel Orensanz center in Manhattan's Lower East Side to look back on the past year in technology culture and, of course, culture culture.

The Vergecast: Apple's iPad mini event - October 23rd, 2012

Apple held an event yesterday in San Jose to announce the much-anticipated (and oft-rumored) iPad mini along with a refreshed iPad, a super-slim iMac, a tweaked Mac mini, and the also-rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. The Verge, of course, was on the scene to cover all the action live — and in the aftermath also in the studio live to break down and analyze.

If you're anything like the Vergecasters, you've had a gaping gavel-sized hole in your heart since the final episode of Law & Order: Orbach Originals was sentenced to death two years ago. And, if you're more than just a little bit like the Vergecasters, you were relying on 2012's Game of Codes: The Goöraculan Chronicles to be engaging enough to cauterize that hole long enough to pen the grisly fan fiction screenplay that would finally fuse the two courtroom dramas in a perpetually dismal yet never dull union in the center of the love triangle of technology, crime, and reality television. If you're a lot like the Vergecasters, the cautery iron was brought within millidegrees of thermal utility by the fiery, populist early testimony of Larry Page only to be plunged into the numbingly dull ice bucket of paperwork / technicality-driven plot twists that would never hack it in prime time.

If you are the Vergecasters, the wound still gapes, you got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and now you're busy enjoying your twenty-eighth gin & tonic on the maiden voyage of the vessel Arkyd and will be Vergecasting from the bottom of a strip mine on Ceres if the Wi-Fi at the Planetary Resources Starbucks can handle it. Smell ya later, earth-wads.

Two score and fifteen years ago, long before they were Vergecasters, the Vergecasters were taking a lunch meeting during nursery school in the coolest, most blinged-out crib in the whole nursery school. In between bouts of teething on his My First Sony, Paul struck up a conversation about how much he had enjoyed that Sunday's edition of Car Talk. "I just learned so much from Click And Clack, the Tappet Brothers, about why my Cozy Coupe II gives me trouble when I'm trying to engage the parking break on an incline. And the callers! Such a diverse, spirited crowd — brought together by their love of the road!" "Hear hear," cooed Lil' Nilay, "it would be so sick if one day us three best baby friends had a television or other sort of broadcast platform from which we could discuss our favorite topics with a dignified and knowledgeable audience." Josh took a moment to drop his sippy cup full of Diet Coke and give the other two an omniscient high-five: it's the Vergecast.

Dusty and darkened by his 1,700-mile journey on horseback from the heart of Texas, Gonzo Journalist 3.0 Nilay Patel rolls his Retina Crystal Ball from its repurposed velveteen Crown Royal satchel onto the Vergecast studio conference coffee table. His abilities enhanced by a half a vodka-soda, Media Theoritician Joshua Topolsky gazes deep into its almost-too-real surface, failing to notice it's sticky with day-old margarita juice and unsavory bits of dried salsa. As he swipes, pinches, and zooms nimbly in the airspace around the orb, JT communicates a fantastical vision of the present from deep within the darkest corner of its fourth core: an era free of the feudal shackles of FM frequencies, the print edition of the New York Post, and the cantankerous media tastemakers and oligarchs who once held so much influence over the populous. Peering up above his reading glasses from the Ba-Bl section of his recently-hyperinflated Encyclopedia Britannica, Dubious Sage Paul Miller wonders what can possibly come next. Not so shockingly, it's the future: one where all citizens exist in a fat green cloud, joyfully passing bits, bytes, kilobytes, and pagesix.com links directly to their Fave Five Friends upon tiny Napster- and KaZaA-branded puffs of cumulonimbus. Jarringly, the sphere momentarily flashes in a spinning beach ball animation, then goes dark. And Nilay seems to have left his charging cradle down south. You could cut the air with a RAZR: it's the Vergecast.

We might be busy pasteurizing the neighborhood cow's last TGIF bucket of milk and borrowing just one last cup of sugar from the neighbor to create the warmest, most well-rounded cookie plate this side of the North Pole.
