Boris Leonidovich Pasternak (Russian: Бори́с Леони́дович Пастерна́к) (February 10 [O.S. January 29] 1890 — May 30, 1960) was a Nobel Prize-winning Russian poet and writer. In the West he is best known for his epic novel Doctor Zhivago, a tragedy whose events span the last period of Tsarist Russia and the early days of the Soviet Union. It was first translated and published in Italy in 1957. In Russia, however, Boris Pasternak is most celebrated as a poet. My Sister Life, written in 1917, is arguably the most influential collection of poetry published in the Russian language in the 20th century. "Boris Pasternak [is] considered by many the greatest Russian poet of the 20th century, who helped give birth to the dissident movement with the publication of his 'Doctor Zhivago'."

"Summertime" from the Opera Porgy and Bess

Porgy and Bess is an opera, first performed in 1935, with music by George Gershwin, libretto by DuBose Heyward, and lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward. It was based on DuBose Heyward's novel Porgy and the play of the same name which he co-wrote with his wife Dorothy Heyward. All three works deal with African American life in the fictitious Catfish Row (based on the real-life Cabbage Row) in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1920s. Listen...

Let me preface the next couple of paragraphs with a small piece of information about me, just to put things into the right context. First, I do not have a degree in computer science. My connection to technology comes from a background in Computer Music, so my ideas may be slightly skewed if you view technology from the traditional computer science perspective. Since this older currency says,

As a follow-up to the previous article I recently posted about UNRWA, I came across some related information that appears to shed more light on the subject.

This comes from Clare M. Lopez, writing for the the Center for Security Policy.

The topic I was writing about, previously, pertains to funds being funneled into the Gaza region, purportedly to provide relief funds for the Palestinians. The inherent problems with this should be obvious when one puts the current plan into perspective.

A few days ago, I mentioned that Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), are reviving a bill (H. Con. Res. 29) related to the UN-established Agency called United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The bill was originally suggested several years ago. What this bill would require would be that UNRWA operate in compliance with existing U.S. laws to ensure that no American taxpayer dollars are being directed to terrorists or to further terrorist propaganda.

This sounds fairly innocuous on the surface, however, there are several things to know about.
