After almost three years of silence, This Side Music comes back with a release from one of its founders, the #10 in This Side Up Series.

"Hidden In Folders" is a 4 track EP with unreleased material from Lee's vault, spiced up, mixed, mastered and delivered fresh.

The release sets off with Another Cosmos, a spaced out deep disco track filled with 80s inspired drums, a hypnotic bassline & warm filtered vocals. Loop-based Deep Freeze combines a chilling sense of deepness with the playfulness of its vocal cuts and string sweeps, a track that can be served on every warmup set. The third track Init 49 is a weird blend of minimal techno and dub. With a name taken from an empty Korg Electribe SX pattern, this track makes good use of the analog drums & sounds from it. TOKENO delivers his own signature minimalistic interpretation, with glitchy loops and matching wicked vocals on the background.

Local talent Lee Fraged & Double Trouble make up for the first two tracks of the compilation with two deep house tracks: Say it with your own words with sexy vocals on top of its driving bassline and percussion and an alternate version of Fetish originally found in the very first This Side Up release. Swap sides, moving up north, to find two tracks, each one with its own distinct dub techno sound: Liquid Level's Ultra is a mover, sweeping albeit deep, while Dominique Jacquinet rides again on Boulevard Road for a sound update of what was once found on his Floating EP.

Track 1 w+p by Lefteris Fragkedis & Alexandros Akritopoulos, 2010, Chania, Greece & Berlin, Germany.
Track 2 w+p by Alexandros Akritopoulos, 2007, Crete, Greece
Track 3 w+p by Juraj Å tumberger, 2011, Zagreb, Croatia.
Track 4 w+p by Dominique Jacquinet , 2011, The Hague. The Netherlands.

V/A - Resurge Two [TDN009]

A relatively uptempo release on This Side Down is the second piece of the Resurge puzzle...

A relatively uptempo release on This Side Down is the second piece of the Resurge puzzle. Three unique tracks coming from two familiar faces and yet another newcomer on This Side. No stranger to us, Yiannis Likos shared one of his tracks a long time ago, a piece of music we always wanted to place as a release starter and that now seems to have found a perfect fit. Late Nites is a completely hardware based, timeless retro-feel electronic track that blends beautifully a phat bassline, a wicked flute and rich snares to a great effect.

Lee Fraged takes an opposite approach with his laptop acid electro track Helix composed deep in the mountains using his headphones only. Blunt beats and moody pads pair up with 909 based percussion and an acidic bassline taking you with him in a downward spiral.

Mick Chillage, after his great releases on Pete Namlook's FAX records and txt recordings, offers up another of his exquisite tracks, Alive With Wires, a nicely arranged electronic track with moody pads & distinctive melodies, a redeeming closer to your listening session...

Track 1 w+p by Giannis Likos, 2007, Chania, Greece.
Track 2 w+p by Lefteris Fragkedis, 2011, Kakopetros, Greece.
Track 3 w+p by Mick Chillage, 2011, Dublin, Ireland.
Mastered by Dimitri Barnias at Diapason Studio, 2012, Crete, Greece.

Traveling from Greece to the United States and all the way back to Berlin, this transatlantic EP delivers prime house music. Thomey Bors, on his debut track release, provides the big, fast-paced opener Zarpa, a detroit influenced driving piece with a distinctive lead bassline, and hands it over to Synaptic Flow who delivers a loop based hypnotic dub tech number based on solid drums and a square bass. No Sense sings the Athens' Money Blues, a steady tech house tool with a big bassline and spoken vox, while Tony Bar, coming from releases on Serialism & Release Sustain, wraps up the package with his abstract groove Sex Crimes Unit, a track of original aesthetics and sequencing.

Track 1 w+p by Thomey Bors, 2011, Home, Greece.
Track 2 w+p by Brian Foster, 2011, Chattanooga, TN, USA.
Track 3 w+p by Roman Svirsky, 2011, Athens, Greece.
Track 4 w+p by Anthony Constans, 2011, Berlin, Germany.
Lee provides three deep, dubby, house tracks, as a creative result of his sleepless nights in Chania & Berlin the last years. This EP is a soundtrack of a life between these cities, a collection of sounds, images & contrasts, further enhanced by a solid set of remixes. Our boy, Double Trouble transforms 'Bless the Sinners' into a modern deep house piece with an early 00's feel while Fraged & his serbian pal Mthaza give their own take on the same track - previously available only on the cd compilation Late Night Express. On the other hand, the man behind the mixing desk - Soniferous Garden - offers his interpretations on the other two tracks, by turning in a peudoacid and an antistatic mix.

All Tracks w+p by Lefteris Fragkedis, 2006-2010, Chania, Greece & Berlin. Germany.
Remix and Additional Production: Tracks 3 & 7 by Dimitri Barnias, Track 5 by Alexandros Akritopoulos, Track 6 by Petar Otic & Lefteris Fragkedis. Trumpet by Loopos.
Mixed (tracks 2 & 4) and mastered by Dimitri Barnias, 2010, Crete, Greece.
Special Thanks to Alexandra, Linny, Dimitri, Kostas & Anna, Alekos, Sebastian Herre and Dionysis.

This Side Music presents a solid compilation of late night tracks from artists that supported us in the past months plus some new additions to the roster. What a better place to set off than The Netherlands with Dominique Jacquinet from Hague who provides the starter with his dreamy 'Forest Wonders' deep-houser, which is followed by the bass heavy and melodic deepness of 'Drop the Tears' by our man, Alekos aka Double Trouble. Move on to some fine tech house from Scotland's Passive Remote with their first track for This Side, 'Reachin for the Higher Ground' and cross over and feel the analog warmth of Mick Chillage's 'Chicago Pad' which blends his influences from both sides of the Atlantic in the most effective way. Back to the UK, from the Dulwich Woods Studios in London, long time friend Philippos N. provides us with 'Evil Music' under his Juno alias, giving a darker tone to the flow with the most uptempo track of the compilation. Back to Athens, Pantal gets 'Spooked' and a haunting tech house workout for your needs while not so far away, Joe Montana (aka Atom Numb) gets euphoric with his track 'Kolo' a perfect set starter, a mood elevator or even a timeless dj tool - you decide! Spacious, deep and driving mid tempo techno is the case of the croatian Liquid Level with 'Worthwile' a track that should fit in house and techno dj sets equally. And finishing things where they started, Linny Berret is 'Late as Usual' but still makes it for the last track with a moody deep house excursion.

Keep in mind that this melody may stick in your head for a while! Next up, Project Echo sounds exactly like one should expect; filled with echoing synths and a so-deep bassline along a filtered detroit rhythm section that invite you to join their dubby soundspace. The last track on the EP, Altitude, promises to get you as high as you let yourself; and it couldn't miss with a soft & nice melody like this.
DOK, who has taken a 90 degrees positive music turn with his new release, Buzz. Forget subliminal soundscapes and artificial ambiences found in his previous works. Here is an undercover head-buzz of down tempo minimal techno, injected with a mixed shot of IDM and Dub. True, the sound here is definitely unique. The groove's beats are large and it sounds like each note has been placed carefully on the grid rather than simply automated by a step sequencer, the bass lines (where available) are simple but rock solid, while TV-style chopped-up vocal lines add a magic touch for this charming, rhythmic soundscape. From 'Buzz' highlights are difficult to pick. Transitions one to three sound like they belong to the same league with small tempo variations. The groove is soulful, soft and at the same time confident and strong. The spoken samples lose their actual meaning and become a rather interesting sound toy in the composition, while the percussion samples drop deep into the sonicspace. All three first tracks are blending comfortably with each other, somehow like they complete one another. The last track, Transition Part 4 (OA535) is probably a favorite and follows a slightly different music direction. The groove remains strong and after two difficult minutes of introduction, a progressive blast of Reaktor-style resonated sequencers and overdriven electric guitars promising music peaks and dips of endless quality. The whole release is nicely produced and if you came to this dance-electronica party late, we couldn't recommend a better entry point to start.
Deep & tech house are the main ingredients of the tracks, which are the first releases for each artist.

Lee Fraged teams up with Pantal (aka dj Numark/Funxion) to create the detroit influenced, acid-tinged beats of 'Love Machine', a deep yet punchy tech track filled with a distinct luscious pad to give a melancholic touch and spur feelings of a mechanical-love-future. Too serious for you? Try the Double Trouble treat of two tracks. L17 has a summer feel with its deep bass, dubby effects & and delayed vocal snippets. Fetish on the other side drives a deeper way, west coast influenced, with the percussion keeping the pace and the deep male vocals, Xerxes style, showing the way. Linny Berret finishes off the pack, on a housier tone, with 'Deeper Luv', a basic track with a 4 on the floor old-skool tempo and a fluffy bassline complete with subtle vocals and an exotic melody.

Track 1 w+p by Lefteris Fragedis and Panagiotis Talianis
Tracks 2+3 w+p by Alexandros Akritopoulos
Track 4 w+p by Linny Berret
All tracks w+p 2007, Crete, Greece.
Mastered by Steve Kitch (audiomaster.co.uk)
