Love Aesthetics

Hello world, I big apology for the lack of communication and inspiration. To be honest it has been one crazy summer of hot hot heat, pool hopping, and lazing in the parc without a care. This week it currently dropped from 30 to 13 degrees and reminded me that summer is fading fast.

I also am disappointed because Fall means Fall wear, and although I love chunky knits and jeans (there is no way in hell you could get me into any of these this summer it was SO humid), I am also going to miss pastels and white. So long, farewell, auf weidersehen, GOODBYE.

Anyway, these are a couple videos that really caught my attention. Check them out, and more to come soon!

"Four Horsemen Shop is proud to present the works of local artist Lukas Behrndt. Lukas has created a series of original paintings inspired by the approaching Fall season and the shop's exciting line up of brands. By reinterpreting the imagery of lines such as A.P.C., Dana Lee and Our Legacy in the context of his unique style, Lukas has succeeded in producing a striking visual presentation and a fresh entry into the lookbook genre. We will be releasing further details shortly, including a confirmed date for opening night." -via Four Horsemen

I have been meaning to share this video for a while due to it's sheer greatness.

There's nothing I appreciate more than people doing cool shit, and when

those people are your friends it's even cooler. The Four Horsemen shop, recently

dubbed one of the top 20 best men's stores in Canada by Sharp Magazine, and Lukas Behrndt's phenomenal art are really putting YYJ on the map.

See more from Lukas here.

Since recently coming across the track 'Aube' by the French/English musical duo Appaloosa,

I have fallen for their minimal but haunting and alluring sound. See for yourself.

Have not posted in a long time - my apologies, as summer starts my time on

the internet decreases significantly. This is what has been up me:

- 30 Degree weather and playing in the park until dark

- Working all the time pays off to a promotion

- Watched Lost in Translation again and Breakfast Club for the first time

- Finished reading Lolita and began to read Beautiful Losers by Leonard Cohen

- Bicycling here, there, everywhere..

Hopefully more personal images will be coming soon,

all I have are Instagram posts and I think everyone deserves much better quality.

Thank you and goodnight!

Have you died a little inside yet?

So, it seems these two have the perfect apartment located in Brooklyn with pets and plants galore. These are the type of photographs that make me want to spend all my savings and retreat forever.

School is done, summer is starting, trips are rising!

Tomorrow I go to Vancouver. Then I go to San Francisco. Then I go to L.A.
Then to Coachella. Then I go back to San Francisco.
I've got my flowers all ready to put in my hair,
some gentle people lined up to meet there,
and right now I'm at home drinking without care,
but spilling everywhere.
Due to my wardrobe's accumulation and it currently consisting of
about 90% chiffon,I am slowly but surely becoming
a light packer.

Watch the video above of megababe Nastassia and get in the mood to groove.

Mac Demarco

2012-04-11T12:23:00.000-07:00

The first time I met Mac was when he crashed my birthday party this year,

he was with the band so it was alright. We were discussing Four Loko on my decrepit

front porch and about drinking it in California and getting messed up. Then he started talking

about being internet famous and getting paid that way and I thought that was cool.

Turns out Pitchfork rated his new shit 7.2, which is pretty damn fine.

His music is good and he is nice and cool and so are his friends, check him out.

Although this may have been my first Easter ever where I went without a

eggciting egg hunt (wtf mom), it was still pretty nice. It was spent getting drunk off

vanilla vodka soaked bunny gummies, a festive take on jello shooters (see recipe below),

eating endless tacos (which should have ended much earlier than they did),

and making whimsical flower crowns with pretty girls.

And I am also super eggstatic because on Saturday I'm going to my

favourite city ever, and then trying out my hand at Coachella.

So thanks Jesus for the good time.

GIGGLY GUMMIES

1. Go to you local grocery store.

2. Proceed to the bulk aisle.

3. Find the biggest, most tantalizing gummy candies,

grab a bag, and load that mother up.

(Don't forget to write the item number on the twist tie!)

4. Proceed to check out and go home.

5. Once at home, take out a nice big chilled bottle of

vanilla vodka from the freezer.

6. Fill a mason jar with previously purchased gummy candies.

7. Cover with said alcohol and screw the lid on tightly.

8. Place in the fridge behind the milk for a couple of days so

you aren't tempted to eat them all every time you

go to make a sandwich.

9. After a few days when you run out of milk,

take them out and consume by the spoonful and get giggly.

A real fun party treat! Sure to be a hit with all your friends!

Isabel Marant Fall 2012

I've been rather busy lately, school is coming to an end and I continue to maintain
my academic performance while working, socializing, keeping my immune system in top

shape etc. I keep thinking of this graph and how it certainly doesn't apply to one who
also works a part time job, but thats besides the point. I have been eating out at
incredible restaurants/cafes lately and really spoiling myself! (images will be coming soon)
I also made home made salsa and super-food-fudge that is extremely nutritious and satisfies
my chocolate cravings. (recipe coming soon 2)
FOR NOW THAT IS ALL Y'ALL,

Clarisse Demory's flat located in Bulgaria is a minimalistic dream.
The cement walls have accents of pastel pinks, and the dried flowers, antique

wood and natural light.. they are inexplicable.

I am in awe, view more images here.

"KONY 2012"

2012-03-14T20:05:00.003-07:00

At first I was touched, tears grew in my eyes as I watched the scenes of the young rebel's in Uganda.
People and atrocities I had heard of before but had failed to pay attention to.
Then, almost directly after watching, my stomach churned. I realized how uncomfortable the film had made me feel - not necessarily for the imagery, disturbing as it was, but for how it was depicting people of varying regions. I cannot speak for the citizens of Uganda, my knowledge of their culture, country and continent is limited, but from all the responses to the 'Kony 2012' film (and all the criticisms) it is my understanding that they did not agree with how their country was being portrayed.

And neither do I.
The immediate reaction for many people of North America was to donate to this organization, 'Invisible Children.' Essentially, high off of the emotional charge the film 'Kony 2012' had, they felt the impulse to buy into something that would improve their social activism. I understand, I felt the urge to as well.

There is nothing wrong with donating to a charity, but it is important to understand it's intent and do some research into what it is your putting your money into. Isn't it the same with making any other purchase? Before buying something, don't you sometimes take a night to sleep on it?
Lastly, understanding the difference between donating globally and acting locally.
It may seem like your top priority is to stop Joseph Kony and save the Ugandan Rebels, but
think realistically for a moment. What else could you do to improve situations within
your environment and society? For those that have already bought their 'action kits',
congratulations, but I hope this won't be your final donation to a community,
whether that be close to home or a continent away.
Everything counts, that's all for now.

nudes

2012-03-13T18:44:00.001-07:00

In my history of twentieth century fashion course, we have discussed the concept of the 'sexual'

side of clothing. When pieces are made to create a desire for them to be taken off. In (some)

African societies where nudity is more common than cloth, tribal and animal prints

become more attractive on a woman. I liked the images above for their simple and special

connotations, nudity and intimacy in the morning.

Today I cleaned my room, went to the gym, and studied a large amount. I think all the

water I drank improved my attitude and behaviour, I'm jovial and energetic. I had quinoa and
asparagus for dinner and now I am drinking ginger tea and studying for a paper.

It is my birthday and I am excited to celebrate it with people I adore!

Lucy Chadwick x The Selby x Zara

2012-02-27T08:18:00.000-08:00

Todd Selby shot this little film for Zara featuring Lucy Chadwick.
Things I really enjoyed about this was her adorable british accent, her amazing

apartment (did you see her coffee pot??) and when she is buying groceries from the farmers market.

I own The Selby book and know its pages by heart, and I am in love with the recent photographs

he took of Hitoshi Uchida-san and his family.

I just spent the last week on break from University, I worked a lot and spent time with

people I hadn't seen in a while. More or less excited to be back in school, I just need to do more art!

Marshall and Celina.

I attended my first album club meeting a couple weeks ago, which was a great enjoyment and success. The idea of album club is to get together and share with one another our chosen album, it can be fromany era or genre, as long as each member of album club takes a moment to enjoy it.

Then we return a week or two later, and discuss it. What our personal experiences were, how it resonated with us, etcetera. So far we have listened to Shabazz Palaces, Grimes, and Busta Rhymes. Above are images I took when we were spending time at 'the girls' place.
