Blog: The Office Chic Blog
Location: Toronto, ON
Hello, welcome to The Office Chic. I am Rica, the owner and author of this blog. This is a place for me to share my passion and things I like. It is called The Office Chic because it transcribes the quest of me trying to find the right "work-chic" balance. Business casual is our office attire, but I do like to incorporate extra things I like in my outfits. I believe that we don't have to dress boring to look professional, we can also be chic, and hence the name of the blog.

I am also a makeup enthusiast. I probably own way too much makeup than I can use, but it's one of my passion. It is another way to express who I am. Therefore, at The Office Chic, you will find all sort of beauty related topics including product reviews, looks, beauty news and finds, and so on. Fashion is another one of my passions. You will also find posts such as outfits of the day, trend report, style watcher, and etc. On top of that, this is also a place for me to share things I like, you will also find food, games, technologies, and other random things that I am currently hooked on.
Currently Playing [Journey - Don't Stop Believin']

Of course every bride wants to look her best for her special day. But to me, the key is to do this without looking too overly done up. A bride wants to remember this day for the rest of her life. Thus, the bride should be wearing the makeup instead of the other way around. This bridal look that I have created enhances a bride's natural beauty without covering it up. This look is meant to complement any gown or dress because of its neutral colours. It's very simple, very beautiful and very long lasting. So whether you're a bride-to-be or just planning on attending a wedding this season, this look is ideal for you to create in 6 easy steps:
1) Priming your face is so vital in allowing your makeup to last throughout the day. A bride will most likely be running around for 12+ hours during her big day, therefore, she cannot skip any primers. (Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion for the eyes & Givenchy Mister Mat Mattifying Foundation Primer for the face are my favorites)

2) Lips! It's so important that the lips remain hydrated and long lasting throughout the big day! Plus, the bride will probably be placing a lot of smooches on the groom. The Bite Beauty Fruit Scrub Exfoliant is perfect to scrub away any dead skins that are on the lips so it'll make the lipstick go on very smoothly. It helps to brighten lips over time while fighting free radicals and conditioning around the lip line. Then use the Bite Beauty Line & Define Lip Primer to instantly preps, plumps, and primes the lips. I choose to use Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Lychee because it's a lip tint formula that delivers luscious color with an ultra-glossy finish.

3) For the face I am using the Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation that is so refreshingly light, which can easily create an even look. It blends seamlessly and has build-able coverage. To allow your foundation to last even longer, I would recommend using a buffing brush along with a powder to help everything set into place. The blush that I have used is a mineral one from Physicians Formula, which really does give your cheeks a rosy glow.
4) For the eyes I keep it simple by using 4 shades from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette: Bootycall (highlight), Snakebite (all over), Busted (outer corner), Blackout (outer V shape). The top of my lid is lined with the Maybelline Master Duo By Eyestudio Liquid Liner, which comes with a dual tip to create thin precise lines with one side, bold thick lines with the other. If you have naturally long lashes, you can just stick with your favourite mascara like the L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes. But if you are like me and need a little boost in the eyelash department, you can apply your favourite natural falsies.

5) Set everything with your favourite setting spray to ensure that the makeup lasts throughout the night.
6) Finally, a bridal makeup look is not complete without the nails because everyone is going to be looking at the ring. I think this colour by Essie called "Ballet Slippers" is just the perfect pale pink for any bride on her wedding day.

WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT
I've always been a huge fan of L'Oreal Paris' oil products. (Remember my love for L'oreal Paris Colour Radiance Precious Oils?) Well, I now want to introduce something even BETTER than the Colour Radiance Precious Oils! This is the new, won't be available until July of this year, Eversleek Precious Oil Treatment with Argan oil.

One of the most frequent question that I get asked, whether on the blog or in person, is how I'm able to keep my hair so long and yet so healthy. After revealing my secret about my Shiseido shampoo, I'm here to reveal another secret of mine: I always, always finish my hair routine with an oil treatment. I always find that the trick with oil is that you don't want to put too much or else it'll look too greasy. But this does not happen with this specific oil. It's so lightweight and yet my hair still remains so smooth. It's much thinner than the other hair oils that I've tried but it still has the great effect. I love the fact that I don't have to wash my hair with soap after applying this product into my hair.

The colour of the oil is a yellow-tint as you can tell from the photo above. What also really impresses me about this specific product is that after 2 week of usage, my hair is much smoother and less frizzy. Even though my hair is not extremely frizzy to begin with but I definitely notice the shininess that's so apparent even near the tips of my hair. I would highly, highly recommend this product to anyone who's struggling with frizzy hair. So now you know my two secrets for long, healthy hair: Shiseido shampoo and this precious oil!

Currently Playing [None]

Today I'm going to share with you all an embarrassing moment of mine. It was actually really hard to narrow it down to just one because being the klutz that I am, embarrassing situations are rather common. But here goes...

This happen when I was in university, I believe it was sometime between my first to my second year. But remember when jeggings first came into the fashion scene? (For those who are unfamiliar with the term jeggings, it's just pretty much a fusion between a pair of jeans and leggings, you know those things that look like jeans but aren't?) But anyways, it was the last class during the day and a friend came up to me and said "Are you wearing your jeggings backwards?"

The first thing that came to mind was "NO WAY!" But then I looked down and indeed I was wearing them backwards! I guess I didn't flip them back when I took them out of the wash. And these jeggings looked so similar on the outside than they do on the inside. So this means that the tag was sticking out in the back and I hadn't noticed for the entire day! I could feel myself slowly turning red and sweating on the inside. And guess what I said with a smirk on my face? “They’re supposed to be like that! It's a new trend"

I was glad that I was able to hand the situation with ease and not breaking a sweat! (Even though I was dying on the inside!) Here's another example of a sweaty situation brought to you by Lady Speed Stick! (Remember to scroll through to the bottom for GIVEAWAY details!)

Don't Sweat it, HANDLE IT! Lady Speed Stick Power provides long lasting superior protection to help women feel dry and unstoppably fresh, enabling them to handle any sweat inducing situations that they may encounter.
Product Benefits:
• Long lasting superior protection†
• Tough invisible 24 hour protection
• Available in 4 different fragrances to keep you feeling fresh from morning to night

† vs. 20% required sweat reduction effectiveness

Ever been in a sweaty situation like mine? Well, here are two products that can keep you dry on the inside even when you're sweating on the outside!

Lady Speed Stick Power in Cool Breeze
So what it claims is to reduce underarm wetness and stay active for 24H and it goes on invisible. And it does what it claims:
-It does give protection from underarm sweat all day and more.
-It applies as a white kind of substance and looks like wet powder when applied. It isn't liquidy like some other deodorant products I've used.
-It doesn't transfer on to your clothes.
-I also love the scent of this product. It's called "Cool Breeze" but I think it smells more like very clean laundry.
-Comes with a plastic seal on top rather than it being just open like many others I've seen. I just feel like it ensures that the stick is more protected this way.

Lady Speed Stick Power in Fresh Fusion
This product pretty much has the same claims as the one above. However, this is in a gel formula and comes with 65g of product instead of the regular 45g.
-It's a gel formula so it goes on invisible
-The product gives a refreshing feel when apply because of the formula.
-This deodorant has a much stronger scent than the previous one, if you are like me and is rather picky about their scents, I would stick with the previous one
-Unlike the previous product, it doesn't come with the second cap. However, the first cap doesn't fall off that easily in the first place so your product should be nicely protected

I always get to fascinated to see the gel formula squeeze out of the tube. Haha! I don't know why! It looks so interesting, especially if it's new.

If you are interested in purchasing these products, you can find coupons for these two Lady Speed Stick products here valid until May 25! Who doesn't like to save money right?
Currently Playing [None]

Hi everyone ~
I have some exciting news today because I'm here to announce a new weekly segment that I want to launch here on THISWASFOREVER. I hope to begin a weekly post called Friday Feature, where I will be featuring some of my favourite blogs, both new and old, on this platform. I'm always in search for new blogs to read so I think it'll be a good idea to share my input with you all as well. And this will be a great way for those new bloggers who are just starting out to get more exposure for their blogs. I'm not saying that I'm an established blogger, but I just want to offer help in anyway because I know how difficult it is to get started in this blogging world.

Some outfits throughout my blogging years

Now you may be wondering how can my blog get featured on THISWASFOREVER? It's really simple, all you have to do is to be a follower of my blog and fill out the form below. (Remember what you tell me on the form, will be published onto my blog) I will be choosing 5 blogs to feature every week and hopefully, you'll see your blog on here very soon. It doesn't matter what category your blog falls under, whether it's fashion, beauty, photography, etc. I will try my best to be fair in my choices, so by picking a variety of blogs. But if you do not get featured during one week, make sure to check back again very soon.

Loading...

PS, as much as I want to update weekly, sometimes life happens and it's just not possible. So please bear with me during those busier and crazier weeks.

MY PERSONA BRACELET

Mood [Okay]
Currently Playing [Fun - Carry On]

I blogged about a week ago about my first experience with Persona. Now I want to showcase the bracelet that I got from the company. Everything came inside a bag, box and a little pouch that holds the bracelet securely in place. The bracelet is the small bracelet with barrel lock (17 cm), which fits perfectly on me. ($75 CAD)

Here are the charms on my bracelet:

LANTERN IN APPLE ($45 CAD)
Inspired by softly lit garden lanterns, this faceted apple coloured cubic zirconia sphere captures and reflects light beautifully as it hangs from a sterling silver shade. I love the green colour that's in this piece. It really resembles the idea of a green apple.

ENCHANTED ESCAPE ($55 CAD)
Exquisite in its design, shape and colour, Enchanted Escape is the ultimate representation of botanical beauty. This bead features an intricate sterling silver motif topped with bright stones and carved florals. This has to be my favourite piece. It's so exquisite and detailed! I'm a huge fan of anything with flowers on it, so this charm is perfect.

BLUE FUN IN THE SUN ($30 CAD)
Turquoise, bronze and yellow stripes come together on this glass bead bringing the warmth and fun of a day at the beach to life all year around. It's a very beautiful piece of jewelry, you really have to look deeply into it to see all the beautiful colours.

It looks so beautiful and delicate on my wrist. It's honestly the perfect gift for any women on your list. I really can't wait to get more charms and beads to fill up the entire bracelet! :)

The best part about this bracelet is the opening, which is a magnetic closure. This makes it very easy to put it on and to take it off by yourself. Does anyone else hate needing to get help to put on your jewelry all the time?
Currently Playing [None]

One of the most talked topics of this week is without a doubt, Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy surgery that was announced yesterday. In case you haven't heard the news, the 37-year-old actress announced in a New York Times op-ed article on Tuesday that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning that she carries a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. By doing this surgery, she supposedly cut down her chances of getting cancer from 87% to under 5%.

While I applaud her for undergoing this surgery for the sake of her children, but now some experts are saying that she may also be stoking a deep-seated fear of cancer in less susceptible-women, driving them to seek unnecessary medical attention and causing undue anxiety about a disease that strikes terror. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here because frankly speaking, if Death is knocking on your door, you really can't stop it from coming. It's the truth and I think Hamlet says it best: conscience does make cowards of us all. But I think what's important and which is why I've decided to write this post, is to live a healthy life-style. You can spent your entire life trying to prolong your days without really living. So instead of looking for the next medical break-through, why not just do something as simple as changing your diet to something that's more healthy. I am no medical expert, but I have gathered a list of foods for cancer prevention, which I actually really enjoying eating.

Berries
Of all the fruits and vegetables studied, berries rank among the most likely to reduce cancer risk and luckily it's also my favourite kinds of fruits. Raspberries, blueberries, and cranberries in particular have shown very promising potential to help prevent cancer. Next time you want a sweet treat, skip the cookies and feast on juicy, delicious berries that can boost your health.

Sweet potatoes
This is my personal favourite because I love eating sweet potatoes. I'm really fortunate that there's a supermarket really close to my work that sells fresh/warm sweet potatoes everyday. Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant. Among premenopausal women, one study found that eating a lot of vegetables that include beta-carotene, folate, vitamin C, and fiber – like sweet potatoes — reduced the risk of breast cancer by about half.

Tea
In Japan, where tea is the preferred beverage, green tea consumption has been linked to reduced risk of stomach cancer among women. In China, green tea drinkers were found to have a lower risk of developing rectal and pancreatic cancers compared with non-tea drinkers. I always try to keep some green tea bags around the house or at the workplace. This allows me to drink at least a few cups of green tea in a day.

Cruciferous vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage contain phytonutrients known as glucosinolates, which may help inhibit the metabolism of some carcinogens and stimulate the body's production of detoxification enzymes. Surprisingly, I'm a huge fan of broccoli ever since I was little. My mother would always steam a cupful of broccoli for me on a regular basis and now, I enjoy it so much.

I know that sometimes it's difficult to eat healthy, especially when we are fighting off our cravings. Don't expect to completely cut off your junk food right away, but instead take it step by step and day by day. If you really cannot stand the mundane taste of some vegetables, try taking my high school Food and Nutrition teacher's advice: all food have potential to taste great, you just have to find the right receipt for it ;)
Currently Playing [Maroon 5 - Daylight]

I know that Mother's Day was just this past weekend, but with Father's Day this year landing on June 16, and since I procrastinate all the time, I might as well start planning for it now. I know not everyone can spent a fortune on gifts, so I think this list is quite suitable for everyone's budget. Here are some items that I would suggest getting for your father for this special day:

Garnier
Pure Clean & Pure Control offer a fresh start to any morning and keep Dads looking their best throughout the day. Anyone can use a good cleanser, these ones by Garnier comes highly recommended.
Available at mass market retailers and drugstores across Canada.

Mindham
To make a timeless and elegant statement, Mindham provides the best pieces for both practicality and style. Canadian jewellery designer Myles Mindham uses precious metals and rare gemstones to create his stunning pieces for a discriminating private clientele. If your dad is anything like my dad, then he can probably appreciate a great watch. My dad loves watches and I definitely think that these pieces will be some of his favourite.

Demeter
Customize a special scent for Dad, one that is like no other! Each single note scent can be worn individually or personalized by mixing and layering them together. If you ever get a chance to go to Loblaw, I recommend you checking out these fragrances. They are very refreshing and just lovely. I'm sure that your dad will enjoy some of their more "manly" scent as well.
Available exclusively at select Loblaw banner store locations including The Real Canadian Superstore.

Ombrelle
Whether he likes to fish or play golf, this is a great item to throw in any Dad’s sports bag. It’s quick and gives an even application that offers optimal protection. I love spray on sunscreen because it's not messy and it's not oily/sticky. I hate having to rub my sunscreen with my hands and your father will probably enjoy the convenience of this as well.
Currently Playing [Flo Rider - Wild Ones]

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Perfect Cleansing Oil contains Mineral Oil: a clear, odorless ingredient which is widely used in cosmetic industry because of its safety quality and liquid form that will not clog pores. The Perfect Cleansing Oil will effectively remove waterproof makeup and dirt instantly, leaving your skin supple and dewy. It is especially helpful when used in dry weather or for those with dry and flaky skin problems.

INGREDIENTS
Isostearic acid, alcohol, mineral oil, water, PEG-10 isostearate, cetyl ethylhexanoate, phenyl trimethicone, PEG-12 diisostearate, PEG-8 diisostearate, phytosteryl/octyldodecyl lauroyl glutamate, tocopherol, fragrance.

FOR BEST RESULT
For dry application, pump liquid onto dry hands and massage good amount into skin and makeup. Add water directly to face, rub and rinse. For wet application, pump liquid into wet hands or facial cleansing brush and massage into skin. Rinse with warm, clear, water.

WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT

I've always been a huge fan of cleansing oils! I love light-weight cleansing oil even more and this one by Shiseido is just perfect! It's definitely one of the cheaper cleansing oil that's by a more popular brand. I bought mine from T&T supermarket in Toronto for around $17.99. It gently dissolves my makeup or any traces of dirt. It smells really great and my face makeup literally just melts off of my face. It's gentle and effective at eye makeup as well (even though I still use another makeup remover for my eye makeup).

I always prefer to use a cleansing oil to remove my makeup just because it's more moisturizing for my skin. Especially now that my skin is more dry than before, a cleansing oil really makes all the difference. This one is definitely on the top of my list at the moment. (Here are some cleansing oils that I've tried in the past: Bobbi Brown, Origin (I have not reviewed this product - but it's okay because it has a thicker consistency, which I don't really like), Dr. Morita). Any other cleansing oil that's worth trying? I've heard great stuff about Fancl and also DNC.

You can purchase a bottle of this cleansing oil here!

Currently Playing [Chris Brown - Forever]

I'm always in search for rings. More specifically, I'm always looking for rings that fit my small fingers. For those who have been a long-time follower of mine might remember me talking about the problem with my tiny fingers here & here. Basically, I can never find rings that fit properly without falling off. When I read Andrea's Fashion Dose's post here about hardware store equipment that can be turned into rings, I quickly made a stop there over the weekend. And to my surprise, I found the perfect sleeves and tubes that were great finger accessories. Not only do they fir my tiny fingers, but it cost me less than a $5. (I also have a store credit for the store). In case you're wondering, the gold rings are called compression sleeves (they come in various of sizes) and the brass tubes are from the plumbing section. So if you are in search for some new accessories, I highly suggest checking out your local hardware store to find some inspirations.

LAST MINUTE MOTHER'S DAY GIFT: PERSONA WORLD

Mood [Drowsy]

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I thought it would be a great idea to show you what I'll be getting my mom this year. My mother usually doesn't like to wear a lot of fancy jewelries but rather prefer items that are classic and simple. And I think these bracelets and charms from Persona are the ideal for her because they are just that: elegant and clean but with a touch of playfulness. And with so many different charms, it's hard to not find one that's suitable for every mother. Plus, beads and charms range in price from $20 - $70 and are compatible with bracelets from other leading bead brands. (MAKE SURE TO STAY TUNE UNTIL THE END TO LEARN ABOUT THE CURRENT PROMOTION!)

Persona® is a collection of stylish and unique jewellery comprising of interchangeable beads and charms that can be worn on bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Persona® is sold across North America through Zales, Gordon’s, Peoples, The Bay and independent retailers. Persona® jewellery is of exceptional quality and includes beads of sterling silver, Italian glass, Austrian crystal, 18k carat gold overlay, gemstones, and colourful enamel. The variety of beads inspires women to create beautiful pieces that express their unique personality and versatile style. Launched in 2009, Persona® is distributed by First Jewelry Limited based in Toronto, Canada. For more information visit www.personaworld.com.

I was introduced to the 3 new collections from Persona that came out last month for Spring. The new collections consist of 3 ideas or 3 themes: Paradise, Vitral and Retro. I'm going to take your through each of them because they are so unique and special in their own ways.

Paradise

Persona® introduces the new Paradise collection featuring bountiful florals, plush pastels and luminous crystals. The Paradise collection is one of three new collections of Persona beads and charms, available in stores late April.

The Paradise collection was inspired by the floral print and appliqué trends of spring fashions and features a range of floral designs in sterling silver, colourful enamels and Italian glass. The 3D effect of appliqué is created with a new multifaceted design featuring a hand carved stone bloom set in sterling silver and surrounded by a mélange of crystal, mother of pearl and hand painted enamels.

This has got to be my favourite collection out of the 3 because of the 3D floral designs! They are just so exquisite and so delicate!

Vitral

And not to be missed, Persona’s Vitral collection is inspired by the majestic grandeur of Spanish stained glass. Glass beads, translucent enamels and faceted briolette stones radiate with light and colours, including rich reds, deep blues and regal purples.

I've always been a huge fan of the colour blue, it's no wonder that I'm so drawn towards this specific collection. You can definitely see the play with light in the beads, which is an inspiration from stained glass.

Retro

Also new this April, Persona pays homage to the innocence of decades past with the Retro collection. Add some kitschy-chic style to your jewellery with a retro charm in sterling silver. Choose from iconic 50’s imagery including a milkshake, Cadillac, jukebox and Marilyn charm to name a few.

A super fun and super cute collection that has some of the iconic pieces from the past. It's kiddish fun with a whistle charm that actually works!

Promotion

It took me a really long time to find a pair of military denim. Not because they were hard to find or anything, but I wasn't willing to spurge on an expensive pair. Trends come and go, thus, I don't see the need to empty out my wallet for a pair of camo jeans. Luckily, when I went inside my local Walmart last week, I spotted this little number for a mere $22. The fitting and cutting are surprisingly flattering and so it now has a spot in my ever-growing, ever-expending closet.

AND THE WINNER IS...

Mood [Bored]
Currently Playing [Ne-Yo - Beacause of You]

I'm sure many of you are already familiar with the concepts of monthly beauty boxes, thus, I don't have the pressing need to explain in detail the idea. But for those who are unfamiliar, basically GlossyBox Canada is a monthly subscription, where you pay around $21 a month to discover five deluxe-sized beauty products, hand-selected from fabulous brands. Of course, if you subscribe to them for a year, you'll get more discount. This is actually my first time experiencing these beauty boxes and I'm pretty content. (You can sign up here)

First of all, I really do enjoy the packaging. It's double wrapped in two separate boxes. And the box inside is also very hard and sturdy, which means that the products will not get damaged during the shipping process. It's also really good that the packaging is pretty enough that I'm willing to reuse it for storage.

When you open it up, this is what I see. This month's Glossybox's theme is Work That Beauty. The box was also curated by Canadian Olympic medalist, Tracy Little.

Here's the closeup shot of all the items inside the box. As you can see, they are all nicely and safely wrapped. Nothing can really move around in the box because of all the paper. It's definitely secure.

The first thing that caught my eyes is this Shick Hydro Silk Razor (because it is the biggest product) and all the coupons that are inside. The razor that gives back moisture and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. It's dermatologist tested and full size. It arrives just in time for the Spring season, since I'll be bearing my legs more as the temperature gets warmer. A great shave is definitely essential for this time of the year. ($10.99 each)

The next product is this Epsom Salts in Soft Mint by Heartland Fragrances. First of all, the colour is really pretty! I'm a huge fan of minty-blues and this is just up my alley. This product will not only soften skin but it'll also relieve tired, achy muscles as well. There is no better feeling than getting into a warm salt bath after a long, hard day workouts. Especially now that I have started softball again. (30oz / $10.10)

I have never tried anything from Boscia before but I have only heard great things. This Recharging Night Moisture is a concentrated moisturizer that works overnight to repair, strengthens and improve skin's elasticity and firmness. It's preservative-free and dermatologist tested. This product is also full size. The product is very thick and thus, perfect for my current dry skin. (40ml / $44.00)

This Moisturizing Lip Blush by Jelly Pong Pong is something that is completely new to me. I have tried jumbo lipstick pencils before but not from this brand. Surprisingly, it's extremely pigmented and moisturizing. It's a lip stain that tints your lips with just the right amount of juicy colour and hydration. Free from sulfates, pthalates, triclosan, ammonia, alcohol and any animal by products. The fact that it's shaped like a pencil, makes it easy to apply and line up my lips. I'm hoping to carry this around with me on a regular basis and incorporate it into my spring wardrobes. (2.5g / $18.70)

An eyeliner by Pop Beauty Glitz Blitz in Wine Wink is a smudge-free, glitzy eyeliner that has the intensity of a liquid liner but the easy application of a pencil. It's waterproof and full-size. This is actually the product that I'm the most disappointed about because it's not easy to apply at all nor is it waterproof. I would definitely not pay full price for this product even though the idea of it is really good. (0.27g / $15.00)

Last but not least, I received a coupon for redeeming the new 0% Silhouette Greek Stirred yogurt contains no added sugar with 50 calories, while still offering all the goodness of a high protein Greek yogurt. This perfect snack, with its deliciously thick and creamy texture, is the perfect blend of pleasure and health. I actually really like Greek yogurt so I'm very happy about this.
Has anyone else noticed the kitty cat trend that has been with us since last winter? Remember my cat hats here and here? I've seen anything from kitty flats, to kitty hats to kitty bags to kitty shirts and I don't think this trend is leaving us anytime soon for spring. I've always been a huge lover of cats ever since I started dating my boyfriend and now it seems like the entire world is obsessed with these feline friends. This dress from Choies is honestly sassy. I'm usually not a huge fan of sphynx because they usually give me goosebumps, however, when it's on a dress like this one with a high split that shows off just the right amount of legs, I cannot pass it up. I feel like I'm having an Angelina Jolie right leg moment.
Currently Playing [Taylor Swift - Trouble]

Sunglasses aren't just for summer you know? The sun is shining outside, so why not wear them during the Spring as well? It can be stylish and can protect your eyes from the harmful UVA and UVB lights, which are the 2 most harmful types of UV lights. Random fact, but did you know that additional exposure to UVA and UVB rays may increase the risk for cataracts, macular degeneration and even development of ocular melanoma — a very rare type of cancer? See how important your sunglasses are to your precious eyes?

So for this year, forget about the traditional black frames, think bolder and with more colours! I have seen a lot of over-sized and unique frames on the Spring 2013 runway that has gotten me thinking about getting some new sunglasses. Even some more traditional brands such as Oakley and Ray Ban are coming out with brighter frames. Statement glasses are the one accessory that I think every girl should have at her disposal.

Though we still have a rainy season to get by before we can see the sun, but it's never too early to start prepping for the hotter months ahead. Here are a few sunglasses that I've been eyeing for the summer from Glasses.com.

Michael Stars Quirky Cool $119

With a name like Michael Stars Quirky Cool, it's easy to guess how you'll feel when wearing these sunglasses. The design combines the vintage styles of cat-eye frames and aviator glasses, and gradient lenses finish off the hybrid look. These are personally my favourite because I've always been a huge fan of cat-eye and aviator! It's about time that a company starts to combine them together.

Betsey Johnson Shady Lady $157

Achieve fun vintage flair and attention-getting style with these Betsey Johnson Shady Lady sunglasses. The semi-square gradient lenses protect your eyes while still letting you see the world in brilliant true color. Floral, check! Betsey Johnson, check! Vintage frames, check! How perfect are these to match any outfits? These can be easily dressed up and dressed down for any occasions.

Chloe CL 2201 $97

The attractive Chloe CL 2201 sunglasses have a trendy wing design that perfectly combines retro style with modern flair. Intricate design elements, such as the toning shade on the lenses and flared frames, provide glamor on days when you need to feel like a movie star. I feel like these glasses are perfect for those who are a bit hesitant to try out colour frames. While the colour is subtle, it is still noticeably different than the traditional sunglasses. Plus, the colour is quite suitable for all skin tones.

Oakley Pampered $110

The fun and flirty have found their look in the round, cat-eye design of Oakley Pampered. Its O Matter frame keeps things light and comfortable wherever the day might take you. And the vast choice of pop colors like Watermelon, Cucumber Melon, Iris Velvet and Vino makes sure that fun and class are yours every step of the way.

This frame offers the comfort and performance of Oakley Three-Point Fit that holds the lenses in precise optical alignment while looking good in a 6 base lens curvature. As for the lenses, if you want minimized glare you might opt for the polarized lenses with 99% polarization efficiency. Polarized or not, Pampered treats your eyes to the Plutonite lens that provides incredible UV protection and filters out 100% of UVA/UVB/UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. And lucky for you, the optical precision and impact resistance of Pampered meets or exceeds Z80.3 optical and basic impact standards, so they'll last as long as you wear them.

Ray-Ban New Wayfarer $129

Ray-Ban® RB2132 New Wayfarer® sunglasses are a slightly smaller interpretation on the most famous style in sunwear. The iconic Ray-Ban Wayfarer is immediately recognizable anywhere in the world. The Ray-Ban signature logo is displayed on both sculpted temples. The New Wayfarer flaunts a softer eye shape than the original and offers both classic and fashion bright color options. These sunglasses allow the wearer to enjoy a classic, celebrated style while adding their own individuality.

THE DESIGNER OF MY BLOG

Mood [Okay]
I have had some inquires about the designer of my blog on twitter so I thought I will just announce it here as well. The banner, blog layout, colour scheme, html codes are all designed and created by my boyfriend, JL, who's a graphic designer. He especially works on branding and logo design for companies, bloggers, interest groups and etc. He has extremely reasonable prices, so if you're interested in hiring a graphic designer or you want to re-vamp your blog, feel free message me directly (day--dreaming@hotmail.com) to get more info! :)

NO FEAR IN LOVE

Mood [Joy]
I just got back from a wedding ceremony and now I have 4 minutes before I have to leave the house for the wedding reception. I'm going to leave you with this verse: "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love" - 1 John 4:18. Please do excuse my roots, I'm in the process of growing out the colour :) I'm thinking about keeping my natural hair colour with the ombre at the bottom from now on.
I'm back! :) Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement in my previous post. The inspection at my school went perfectly and I'm super relieved right now. On another note, as spring approaches, it also means that wedding season is just around the corner. I'll be attending my first wedding of 2013 tomorrow. The rose dress is by Max C from ASOS (on sale too!), colour-blocked shoes are from Forever 21 and the clutch is by ELA. More details of the outfit will come after tomorrow.
The school that I teach at is going through inspection by the Ministry of Education, so that means there is a lot of paper work that I need to finish up. And the inspection date got moved up! (Super stressed about that!) So it's going to be OT every single night until Thursday and someone should just inject caffeine into my bloodstream. I won't be gone for too long, but probably will not update here until the end of this week. (I will randomly post on twitter so you can still connect with me there) Hopefully the next time you're here, I'll be freeeeeeeee and back with a real post! Some new exciting stuff that I received in the mail recently. Look at all the new Tweezerman goodies! They are definitely feeding my obsession! I can't ever say I'll have messy eyebrows ever again! ;) I'm especially excited for the Bite Beauty makeup! I'm already in awe of their very sleek packaging! They look so cool! And the new Yves Rocher lipsticks also have a beautiful design! I love it when all these companies are stepping up their game with their packaging! You can always tell that a company really cares when they put grave detail and emphasis just on the products' appearance. Thank you Tweezerman, Bite Beauty and Yves Rocher!
Currently Playing [Daniel Powter - Crazy All My Life]

When I think of a music festival like Coachella, three things instantly comes to mind: large crowds, sweating bodies and partying all day long. This means that my makeup needs to be comfortable and lasts even after the sun has set. I can't stand being in the hot sun and the feeling when my makeup literally melts off of my face. So my aim for this look is to not only keep it natural but to make it foolproof for the entire event.

The first thing is sun-protection! If you opt out on wearing sun screen, this can result in really nasty burns in the end. It's called the most important rule of all for a reason! Wear your sunscreen! I personally prefer something that has a higher SPF so this sunscreen by Neutrogena with SPF 60 is perfect for me. Not to mention that it's really suitable for the face because it's not oily at all.

Next step is to prime! Here I'm using my favourite primer by Givenchy. It mattifies my skin and ensures that my makeup will stay put. I don't want to be sweating and have heavy face makeup. So I decide to skip out on foundation this time and opt for this Hydreane bb cream by La Roche Posay because it's much more lightweight than a foundation. Now, if you are like me and need the extra coverage, I suggest using your favourite concealer to dot on those imperfections.

My eyes are very simple. I combine an Essence 3D Duo eye shadow and a brown pencil for lining my eyes. The false lashes in this look are very short, thus, making them not as heavy and more natural. I added a natural coloured blush on my cheeks just for an extra glow. I choose to use a tinted lip-balm with SPF instead of a lipstick because not only will it keeps my lips from drying out but I also need something that will not be as noticeable when it fades (I'll probably be eating and drinking throughout the day). Finally to finish the look off, I use some shimmering body powder to "shine bright like a diamond".

Anthropologie polka dot and lace shirt (last season but similar here), Rue21 mustard denim (similar here), Jeffrey Campbell x Miriam (楊千嬅) limited edition Lana, ela MILCK clutch (buy here)

Two items that are now sitting happily in my closet: this ela MILCK clutch and a sheer polka dot with lace top from Anthropology. I already have the perfect dress to go with the MLCK clutch for a wedding coming up at the end of the month. Both were on sale for $50! A huge shout out to Rica for purchasing the ela clutch for me during their sample sale a few weeks ago! Love you!
