BlogCumulus.NET - A flash based tag cloud extension for BlogEngine.NET

I have added BlogCumulus.net to my BlogEngine site. This is a flash based tag cloud like the one you see on the left hand side of this page. You can find the download for this application from Ryan Tomlinsons blog.

One thing to note: I was actually unable to get this to work on my site. I recieved and error on the page stating that these was an issue with "using System.Linq;". Here is how I resovled the issue.

1. Download the .rar file from Ryan's blog.
2. Extract the files to your desktop
3. Open BlogCumulus.cs from App_Code\Extensions with notepad and remove the line
    using System.Linq;
4. Open BlogCumulus.cs from App_Code\Controls with notepad and remove the line
    using System.Linq;
5. Open widget.ascx.cs from Widgets\BlogCumulus with notepad and remove the line
    using System.Linq;
6. Upload the files per the instructions found in the read.txt
7. Once upload go to the Extensions tab of your blog and select edit for BlogCumulus
8. Enter a text color (mine did not seem to work but is wants a value)
9. Enter a speed (I started out with a value of 150)
10. Enter your width and height values (this blog uses 250 x 180)
11. Go to your homepage and add the widget to yoru sidebar

You are all set! Now you have a cool tag cloud that uses flash to animate you tags to your readers.

Ryan is awesome for converting this for use with BlogEngine.net.

Make sure you visit his site and add your commments to his blog thanking him for his contribution if you decide to use this feature.

New Theme - Plutocrat

I have posted my theme used by this blog to the ThemeGrabber page. This theme seems to work for me just fine but it has not been tested with all browsers. I am offering this them as is for now due to time constraints on my end. If you have any issues with this theme you can post them to this entry and I will do my best to answer them as quickly as I can.

I believe this is one of my better themes and would love to hear any suggestions yo may have.

What gets better than this!

How many times have you thought it would be fun to launch a golf ball off of a skyscraper in Japan? I know I have always wanted to. But the only problem with this was you always hit the ball into a net. By hitting it off a skyscraper you still don't have the feeling of letting a ball launch and having it stay in the air for 30 seconds.

A few years back you watched mister #1 (you know who I mean) hit a ball off of both a skyscraper and a air craft carrier and probably said to yorself "that would be fun to try, just once".

Well now you have your shot, not off of a skyscraper, not off a air craft carrier or into a net. Now you can fly to South Africa and play the Legends Golf & Safari Resort.

Legends golf course has 18 holes designed by several PGA tour pros and top flight golfers. They have on hole, called the "Xtreme 19th" a new twist to the old 19th hole. This hole has nothing to do with drinking, this hole has a green shaped like the country of africa, and sand trap surrounding the green and very little in your way. Sounds like your typical par 3 correct? !!NT that would be incorrect!

You see the thing about this hole that makes the experince of playing it unlike anythig you have seen before and something you always wanted to do is that the tee box is... ready for this? 1,400 hundred feet about the green!, That's right 1,400 hundred feet above the green. Now you have your chance to hit a ball off of a cliff and not into a net, water or some open space but actually aim for a green. The hole is 630 yards long and a typical ball flight from the green takes 30 to finally hit the green.

Imagine you pull out your driver, tee one up, give it a killer smack and say "ya not too bad, that was about 630 yard drive". Put that on your facebook account!

Here is a video of Padraig Harrington and Raphael Jacquelin playing the 19th hole. You can see in the video that you actually take a helecopter ride to the tee box.

Now the best part about this hole is that they will give you a dvd of your shot (like the one above) from start to finish, souvenir swag and of course the helecopter ride for those who enjoy the experience.

You may think it would be too much money to do something like this just because the helecopter ride alone would up the bill too much. Well you would be incorrect in thinking so because this experience will run you $220 and not just for the one hole but a complete round of golf+1.

I know I am already to book a flight, take a safari, visit africa and play one of the most exciting holes to come along in a while.

P.S. Oh, by the way when you play this hole it would be a good idea to aim at the tree just behind the green. I know if I were to actually play it someday, anything and everything within a 630 radius (we are 1,400 feet in the air) should be wearing a hard hat. Its just too early in the year to trust my swing

I wanted to start adding some brain teasers to my website and thought it would be great if there was a way to post the answer in my entry but not show the results until someone clicks on the answer. Here is what I have come up with that seems to work well.

When you click to add a new entry select the 'HTML' button to view the code for your entry.

Paste the following code in the HTML box at the top of your post:

Now place a <div> tag below these lines to hold the answer or whatever you want to hide until a reader select the option to show the answer:

That's it, you now have a div tag that you can place anything you want within and it will not show until you click on the 'Show Answer'.

This is a a fun test to see how your brain works. This is an executable file that I know is safe but I would run a virus check on it anyway before opening any file from a website.

Add ChatRoom to Blog

I have decided to add a chat room to my blog. I think it was more of an experiment than a functional piece to my blog but I thought I would share my quick findings.

Looking through the web I found a site that offers a free web chat room that you can add to your blog site. The site is called 99chats and offers a nice little chat room client. You can view the one for my page on the left menu under Friends Chat Room.

If you would like to add this to your web blog here is how it is done:

Go to 99chats and sign up for a free account
Once signed up you willl have an option to create a room.
Choose your rooms name, category, theme, size and background color.
Click the save button
From here you will see two options to copy: object embedded or javascript embedded
Choose Object Embbeded and copy all the text found in this box.
Goto your blogengine site and add a new page
With the page editor open select the "HTML" button to view the source of the page
Paste the text you just copied from the 99 chats website
Save your page

That's it! You should now have a functional chat room widget on your webpage. I don't know if that will be usefull for anyone but thought I would share it with you anyway. You can also build a custom template onb 99chats by selecting the templates tab and addingn the colors you want to see in your blog. When you return to the "My Rooms" tab you will be able to edit your chat room you already created, select the new theme, save the chat room and then follow steps 5-10 again to update your chat room for your site.
