Legendary playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam passed away in Chennai on Friday. He was 74.
He was hospitalized in August after testing positive for COVID-19, died on 25 September 2020 afternoon at MGM Hospital hospital in Chennai. On September 7, he tested negative for COVID-19, He reportedly did well initially, but continued to be on the ventilator and ECMO even as he participated in passive physiotherapy.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter —daughter Pallavi and son SP Charan both are playback singers.

Veteran Congress leader and former President Pranab Mukherjee died in Delhi at the age of 84 on Monday, confirmed by a tweet from his son Abhijeet Mukherjee. He was admitted to Army Hospital earlier this month after having undergone emergency life-saving surgery from a brain clot. He had also tested positive for coronavirus. Pranab Mukherjee served as President from 2012 to 2017.

In the United Progressive Alliance government, Mukherjee had been a Minister of Cabinet. From 1982 to 1984, he served as Finance Minister in the Indira Gandhi Government, and from 1995 to 1996 was Foreign Minister in the Narasimha Rao Government. Mr. Mukherjee has also worked on the International Monetary Fund and World Bank boards. Much of his career was with the Congress party, which for decades dominated Indian politics before suffering two consecutive losses in 2014.

On Wednesday 15 July 2020, Minister of State Education C Raveendranath announced the Plus two results. The results of the Vocational Higher Secondary Examination (VHSE) are also published alongside the HSE results.

Around 4.52 lakh students who had appeared in the Plus Two Higher Secondary Examinations.The overall passing percentage of DHSE Kerala Plus Two Exam 2020 is 85.13 percent.The number of students completing Vocational Higher Secondary Education (VHSE) 2020 is 76.06 percent.

In 2019, the percentage of crossing was recorded at 84.33%.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officially announced the results of the class 10th board exam today, 15 July 2020. More than 18,89 lakh students have registered for board exam. The CBSE class 10 results 2020 are exceptional since the marks were awarded this year without all the exams being conducted.

In the case of an examination which was not carried out, CBSE awarded the marks based on an average of the highest three marks obtained in subjects for which the marks were held. Only the best of two papers will be considered for those who appeared in three exams. Those who have taken part in one or two of the examinations will also be considered internal assessment, as per the board.

Scientists Detect the Earth's Atmosphere Ringing Like a Bell

Researchers at the University of Hawaiʻi and Kyoto University discovered that Earth's entire atmosphere is "ringing" like a bell, confirming theories from the last two centuries.

A ringing bell vibrates simultaneously at a low-pitched fundamental tone and many higher-pitched overtones, producing a pleasant musical sound. "Music" does not arrive in the atmosphere as a sound we might hear, but in the form of large-scale waves of atmospheric pressure reaching around the globe and circling across the equator, some going east-to-west and others west-to-east. Every wave is a vibration resonant to the global atmosphere.

At the beginning of the 19th century one of the greatest scientists of history, the French physicist, and mathematician Pierre-Simon Laplace, started the fundamental understanding of these atmospheric resonances with groundbreaking insights. Physicists' work over the past two centuries has refined the theory and led to detailed predictions of the wave frequencies that should be present in the atmosphere. However, the hypothesis has lagged behind the actual detection of these waves in the real world.

Amadou Gon Coulibaly, a candidate for president in a coming election, died suddenly, the country’s president announced on Wednesday.

The death of Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, cast uncertainty on the West African country’s presidential election in three months, in which he was to be the ruling party’s candidate. The cause of death was not immediately clear.

Branched light flow, observed for the first time

Physicists from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and the University of Central Florida have observed the branched flow of light for the first time. Instead of producing completely random speckle patterns, the slowly varying disordered potential gives rise to focus filaments that divide to form a pattern resembling the branches of a tree or the streams of a river delta. This phenomenon is called branched flow. Researchers have achieved a long theorized but never-before-seen like this phenomenon. Researchers shone a laser beam along with the curved film of a soap bubble. They observed that the light travelled and split into filaments, the variations in the bubble’s thickness creating the branched flow phenomenon.

The flow of light changes as it passes through different media, in the same way, refraction occurs when you submerge an object in the water.

To create the branching-flow effect with light, the structure of the medium – in this case, the soap bubble – needs to be somewhat random in nature, and the physical, spatial variations within the structure to be larger than the wavelength of the light flow itself. Micro disturbances across the bubble’s surface scatter the flow of light, splitting it into streams like a river delta, which then further split and so on. For the best results, making soap bubbles the perfect candidate.

To guarantee a high level of accuracy, the researchers inserted a fiber-optic cable into the soap-bubble membrane.

The team tested the soap-bubble laser technique on both stable and moving membranes by restricting the airflow around the bubbles, allowing them to witness the full beauty of white light splitting into multiple thicknesses and colours in their artificial “light delta.”

“The fact that we observe it with light waves opens remarkable new possibilities for research."

Everton Weekes: West Indies cricket Legend Passed Away

West Indies cricket legend Everton Weekes from Barbados died at the age of 95. He was known as one of the hardest hitters in world cricket. Along with Frank Worrell and Clyde Walcott, he formed what was known as "The Three Ws" of the West Indies cricket team. Outstanding West Indies right-handed batsman and one of the Three Ws who lit up the game in the 1940s and 50s.

Weekes played in 48 Test matches for the West Indies cricket team from 1948 to 1958. He continued to play first-class cricket until 1964. As a coach, he was in charge of the Canadian team at the 1979 Cricket World Cup, and he was also a commentator and international match referee.

Weekes retired from Test cricket in 1958 due to a persistent thigh injury but continued in first-class cricket until 1964, his final first-class match being against Trinidad and Tobago in Port-of-Spain, scoring 19 and 13. Weekes passed 12,000 first-class runs in his final innings, becoming only the third West Indian, after Worrell and Roy Marshall, to do so.

Astronaut Behnken, who is current aboard the International Space Station, enjoys a view of Earth that most of us will probably never get to see in real life.

On Monday, Robert Behnken recently shared on Twitter stunning images of the demarcation between night and day on the Earth. The pictures show one part of the Earth submerged in darkness, while the other part is bathed in light - thus giving a stunning glimpse of the Earth’s horizon and a wonderful comparison between day and night on our world.

“My favorite views of our planet that capture the boundary between night and day,” he wrote while sharing the pics that show one a part of our planet shrouded darkly and therefore the other in light.

Mr. Behnken is one of the two astronauts who went to space earlier this month in a historic flight. Along with astronaut Doug Hurley, he entered the International Space Station on June 1.

Milton Glaser, the creator of the "I ♥ NY" logo, died at the age of 91.
The logo rapidly gained recognition across the world and the logo made for a 1977 tourism campaign and has been described as the most frequently imitated in history.

After the 9/11 attacks, Glaser released an amended version of the logo that featured a bruised heart and read “I ♥ NY MORE THAN EVER”.
He has also made a popular Bob Dylan poster with psychedelic eyes.

‘Missile Man’: Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was passed away. He was 83.
On 27 July 2015, Kalam traveled to Shillong to give a lecture on "Creating a Livable Planet Earth" at the Shillong Indian Institute of Management. At around 6:35 p.m. IST, just five minutes after his lecture, he collapsed. He was rushed to the nearby Bethany Hospital in a critical condition; he had no pulse or any signs of life upon arrival. Despite being put in the intensive care unit. Kalam was reported dead from a sudden cardiac arrest at 7:45 p.m.

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was elected President of India in 2002 with the support of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Indian National Congress. Upon completing a period of five years, he returned to his civilian life in teaching, writing and public service. He has won a variety of prestigious honors, including Bharat Ratna, India's highest civil honor.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, to the Tamil Muslim family, on 15 October 1931. His father's name was Jainulabudeen, the owner of the boat, and his mother, Ashiamma, the housewife. His father owned a ferry that carried Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram and the now-extinct Dhanushkodi. Kalam was the youngest of four brothers and a sister in his household. He came from a poor background and started working at an early age to increase his family's income. After finishing school, Kalam distributed newspapers to contribute to his father's profits. He had average grades in his school years but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn and spend hours on his studies, especially mathematics.

Upon completing his education at the Ramanathapuram Schwartz Matriculation Institute, Kalam went to St. Joseph 's College in Tiruchirappalli, then to the University of Madras, where he graduated in Physics in 1954. He was not excited about the topic at the end of the course, and would later regret the four years that he studied it. In 1955 he moved to Madras to study aerospace engineering at Madras Technology Institute. When Kalam was working on a senior-class project, the Dean was disappointed with his lack of success and threatened to revoke his scholarship if the project had not been completed within three days. Kalam met the deadline and inspired the Dean who later said to him, "I stressed you and asked you to meet a tough deadline." He narrowly missed his dream of being a fighter pilot as he finished ninth in qualifiers and there were only eight places at the IAF.

Malayalees famous comedian Mala Aravindan passed away, who has acted in over 400 films over the last 37 years. He was best known in Malayalam films for his work as a comedian and character-artist. He was 76.

Born to Ayyappan and Ponnamma, Aravindan began his career as a tabla artist. He started playing tabla as a background artist and was associated with most of the famous professional theatres of the time. He started acting in minor roles in various plays and then made his movie debut with the 1968 movie Sindhooram directed by Balakrishnan. He has become an integral part of the Malayalam film industry, acting in famous movies such as "Meesha Madhavan," "Tharavu," "Patalam," and "Thadavara." He has entertained the Malayali movie goers for about four decades with more than 500 movies in his repertoire. Mala Aravindan worked with three generations of Malayalam actors, from Prem Nazir, Jayan, Soman, Mammootty, Mohanlal to Dileep and now the younger actors.
