Adams is awe inspiring, the beautiful wisp of clouds over the top of the mountain took on the shape of a white mushroom, this effect has a name i'm sure, perhaps a meteorologist would know the answer to that question, this is definitely captivating, the shaded area under the rim of the clouds and the bright sun made a band of light just below the rim giving this image a spectacular amount of contrast, toward the bottom of the image you can see a school and a car at the end of the field, this gave the image the scale it deserves.
Exposure f-14 | 1/250th | ISO 140 | Metrix Metering.

Image #2 This shot of the train was a bit on the lucky side, we had just stopped to look at a scenic view along the Gorge when Darlene said that she could see a train coming in the distance, I quickly grabbed my camera from the back, we had just pulled over so I hadn't had the chance to retrieve my camera yet, I rushed to grab the camera, the train was fast approaching, first thing I saw was the beautiful landscape in the background, I barely had the time to set up the shot giving me the background that i wanted, shortly after the Train cruised by and I was able to capture several images, I liked the way the Orange train looks against the tones in the background, almost gives this a 3 dimensional appeal.
Exposure: f-6.3 | 1/400th | ISO 400

Image # 3 This view of Mt. Hood was captured from a ridge that was a challenge to get to, after walking up a ridge I found a spot that I liked, the challenge was to capture the rows of apple trees and the top of the mountain, this is a very tough exposure because there is more then 2-stops of light difference between the foreground and the background, I found the best in between exposure, after loading the image into Photo Shop I lightened the foreground just a little to give the image a good amount of contrast.
Exposure: f-11 | 1/200th | ISO 100

Image #4 The Final image was taken from a roadside turn out along the Highway, this is a spectacular view of the columbia river gorge, we looked over the edge and we were amazed with how high we were above the river, there are homes, roads and railroad tracks along the river but we were so high they could barely be scene in the photo, everything below seemed like they were the size of ants, I decided to take a few shots, what I like the most was how the clouds were able to bring the image together with the amount of contrast needed for a good photo, the leading line of the river gave it direction and scale, hope you enjoy.
Exposure: f-13 | 1/500th | ISO 100

Have a great day everyone
© Thomas Hopkins 2012

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 325px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PuqdnE-o-ng/TwH1FNVByvI/AAAAAAAABGk/GtZrP9Rxqkc/s400/DSC_0872fr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693100873799027442" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 286px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kzhZs2gn2y4/TwH09CoLNXI/AAAAAAAABGY/JPfbc7snc38/s400/DSC_0909fr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693100733487592818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 325px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QSR2n785Ui0/TwH01OQU3QI/AAAAAAAABGM/UYMg3lLxxsc/s400/DSC_0857fr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693100599169834242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 325px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BRlfl0NU9VU/TwH0pdNoe4I/AAAAAAAABGA/vsaz_a8S2sM/s400/DSC_0925fr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693100397026638722" />

Groom, you don't see them in this photo but you can feel the connection with the Rings, gown and Tux, these type of images will have a lasting impact in their albums for generations.
This particular wedding was one that gave way to really bad weather, I got totally soaked at this wedding but we were still able to capture some cool images and told the story of their special day.
Have a great day
© Thomas Hopkins

<img style="display:block; Exposure 1/640th Shutter | ISO 500 | F6.3

Image #3 is a still photo taken right at the breaking point for a good hand held image with out getting blurry, remember that the crane was not moving which allowed me to use a slower shutter, any movement of the crane would have rendered him soft and seemingly out of focus, I captured this image using ISO 100 | 1/50th second | f10.0.

All these images were taken with my Nikon D-700 with an 80-200mm 2.8 D series Lens

Enjoy !
© Thomas Hopkins © 2011

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 286px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RRFF_w3Au5g/Tth5xP1UGbI/AAAAAAAABBY/dmpyP5AJnDs/s400/DSC_0114luc.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681424816898578866" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 333px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-seuBucvuF_4/Tth5tvqfDvI/AAAAAAAABBM/nfqBRhxdghs/s400/DSC_0214fr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681424756723617522" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 333px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Knl24i6TGA4/Tth5oOs1PII/AAAAAAAABBA/dvltfKoFCbs/s400/DSC_00768xfr.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681424661975743618" />

Hi Everyone : Today I am sharing an image taken last night in Williamsburg, how cool is it to be able to sit outside on a street with a big screen and watch Toy Story 3 ?
Every Sunday night in williamsburg they set up a large movie screen in the heart of the historic merchants square, they clear the street and allow people to gather and set up your own chairs, the showings are free and a joy to attend, should you visit Williamsburg be sure to check out this fun event that everyone can enjoy.
1. RULE OF THIRDS
2. ESTABLISHING SHOT ( Wide angle)
3. MID RANGE ( Getting Closer)
4. TIGHT SHOTS ( Get the details)

These photo's should tell the story, at around 9pm on July-6th-2003 my fire pager went off telling us to respond, mutual aid to a near by town for a fully involved structure fire at the Canaan Superette, a small grocery store with gas pumps, i grabbed my fire coat, cameras and helmet and proceeded to the scene, when i arrived at approximately 9:26 pm I could see the structure was fully involved, the owners did rebuild the location and thankfully no one was hurt in the blaze.

Enjoy !
