I missed writing last Sunday’s entry due to no Wi-Fi settings on my laptop and I was super worried about stuff I should not have worried about in the first place. But now everything’s falling into its proper places. God always makes me feel that my faith in Him prevails against all odds and I am truly grateful for that. He truly answers prayers in His own perfect time.

Reading Buzzfeed articles. I learned a lot of DIYs and recipes I am excited to try.

Writing The Sunday currently, volume 4. I was supposed to start writing a Position Paper (for a client), but I was not able to because I had to install first the latest Microsoft Office 2016 that took my whole afternoon to finish.

Listening Justin Bieber’s 'Purpose' album on repeat all day, all week. It’s that awesome!

Thinking about my busy week ahead due to work deadlines

Feeling blessed and grateful because God never ceases to amaze me of His overflowing grace. I am thankful that my clients paid me already and I have new clients also, which pretty much covered all of my obligations this month. J

First day of Second Sem High!

Start of a new semester and I have my first day high feels!

Today was a perfect day because it was awesome & amazing and I am not even exaggerating.

I woke up at 5:30am, watched yesterday's episodes of OTWOL and Aldub Kalyeserye, out of bed by 6:30am, then had my stretching and 7-minute workout before eating breakfast and preparing for the day.

The weather was clear and warm, but not too hot. It rained though just for a couple of minutes.

I am grateful that I was very productive with work at the office. I went to San Jose to file a petition, got to finalize and sign a compromise agreement for a client and ready for filing another civil case tomorrow for another client.

I claimed my coupons from BPI thrills for a Jollibee lunch for two even if I later found out I am again allergic to chicken.

I attended the mass at AdNU presided by my fave Jesuit priest, Fr. Mallari. Plus, there's a free snack at the office, my fave food: pizza!

Also, I met my two night classes for the day and I must say their faces are refreshing to the eyes and their energy were high. I was able to share some reminders, tips and advises on how to achieve their goals in life in general.

And finally, I completed my set daily routine. :)

I am really looking forward to more awesome days, weeks, months or even years ahead.

All through out the day, happiness lingers within me.

To cap this beautiful night, from the lyrics of Stevie Wonder: I am "overjoyed, over loved, over me" is all I can say.

I'm back!

After almost 10 months of hiatus...

For the past 5 months, I felt like I am in a rut, at a limbo or what one may call an early-30s life crisis. Don't get me wrong. I love all the things I'm doing and what I have at present, but I am the kind of person who wants to do more (MAGIS) and be a better version of me, LHEILA 2.0.

Yet lately I have been contemplating of what I should do to get out of this limbo and expand my comfort zone.

And today marks that day that I am finally realizing all the things I want to do and to actually start doing them. All thanks to Maine's (aka Yaya Dub) blog that inspired me to again pursue my life's dreams and passions.

Firstly, my love for writing. I already have a list of topics to write about and post in my blog. I will figure out how to have my own domain. I am working on a book, which is a compilation of all my works.

Secondly, my passion for travel. I want to share all my adventures and misadventures during my travel. Travel really is an opportunity for me to discover and experience new things, learn about cultures and histories, to get my needed break from work and a time to assess and evaluate myself and my life.

Thirdly and most importantly, my calling for service. Being a Jesuit volunteer was one of the best things that ever happened in my life! It changed me to become a better person and to serve the Lord through others. Sadly, I am not doing as much as I want and as much as I can to serve others. Hopefully, aside from being a World Vision sponsor and a legal aid lawyer of IBP-Cam Sur, I can again give my time and effort to other NGOs.

Look back: 2014

My 2014 has its highs and lows, ups and downs and good and not-so-good stuff; but overall, I gained wisdom and emotional and spiritual stability.

I can honestly say my year was a roller coaster of emotions and experiences and, at the end of the day, I was able to accept and understand that happiness is indeed a matter of choice and how you take the events in your life is also a matter of your own perspective.

To note, this year alone, I lost an important job, but I gained two (2) jobs, a business and more clients in exchange. :) I had two (2) heartbreaks (yes, not one!), but I got to travel a lot (Coron & Calauit, Calaguas, Hongkong, Boracay, Yogyakarta, Tagaytay and Beijing) together with the important people in my life to date. I encountered major obstacles (both personal and professional aspects) along the way that I handled all on my own, yet through it all, I really felt the help and comfort of the Lord. And lastly, I am able to continually fulfill one of my passions in life in my own little ways and that is service: I inspire, I share and I volunteer.

I learned that love is recognizing the happiness of the person you love even if it means letting go. The hurt may linger, however you will still feel happy not because you lost someone; but rather because, as a human, you were given the chance to feel true love. :) That is my silver lining.

I learned that success is not having plenty of money, but being able to value what God has given you to achieve it: knowledge, set of skills, money and, most of all, the people who inspired you to reach your dreams and goals.

I learned that my spirituality is the treasure I value the most in my life and I can only show my gratitude through helping others in simple ways I can without recognition and without rewards.

In summary, love, family and friends, success, spirituality and passions for travel and service are my personal gauges to feel authentic happiness. And no amount of struggles could ever hinder my passage towards genuine happiness. :)

Road trip to the Province of Sorsogon

It all started with a Piso Fare and a longing for a beach getaway... Everything seemed hopeless because all potential flights I searched were sold out.

One of my travel buddies, Doreen, suggested a backpacking trip to Subic Island, Sorsogon during the 2012 Chinese New Year holiday with a cheap budget. Since I'm a 'dakilang kaladkarin' and itched to have a travel escape, I immediately said yes! :)

We invited some of our friends in Law school whom we know are available (since all of us are just waiting for the Bar result): Kendi, Chris, Trina, Karen, and Adolf accepted our invitation. I also asked my cousin and 2 of my nephews to tag along.

Luckily, Chris' dad is the PENRO of Sorsogon who managed to arrange our boat ride and food all for free! :) Also, my parents allowed me to use our car for our roadtrip. So, we managed to spend around P220 each for the entire trip (exclusive of our fare from Naga to Legaspi and back) for the gasoline (P1k), driver's fee (P300) and entrance fee (P35 per person) at the hot spring resort.

OUR ITINERARY:

7: 30 am Travel from Legazpi to Matnog, Sorsogon
10:30 am Boat ride to Subic (Liit) Island, Sorsogon

11:00 am A sumptuous lunch of Ginataang Langka, Crabs, Grilled Fish
and Grilled Liempo plus unlimited rice & buko
Then lots of swimming!

1:00 pm Travel to Juag Fish Sanctuary

3:00 pm Back to Matnog, Sorsogon
4:00 pm Roadtrip to San Benon Hot Spring Resort at San Mateo Sorsogon
5:00 pm Swimming in the Hot Pool
6:00 pm Travel back to Sorsogon City
7:00 pm Travel back to Legaspi/Naga

It was indeed a FUN trip! An unforgettable spur-of-the-moment travel getaway that I'll forever cherish.

My Travel Checklist

I’m the type of gal who does not want to forget items I need while travelling. I live by the Girl’s Scout's motto, “Laging handa.” (Always prepared) and writing ‘To-do-lists’ is one of my fetishes.

As a result, I came up with a list of travel essentials (for women) I have noted and identified since I started travelling. I wrote down all of them in a Mini Memo pad, which I keep inside my wallet.

On Loss & Heartbreak...

2011: a year of tears

Barely a year after the loss of my lil bro, Jojo, I experienced my first heartbreak.

I lost two important individuals in my life, thus, leaving my heart in shatters.

Reality bites.

I felt all the sadness, anger, bitterness, hurt and pain from the moment I wake up in the morning until the time I am about to sleep at night; every second of every day. (And I am not even exaggerating.) It finally leads to depression and I even started contemplating of ending my existence, the darkest point of my life.

I thought I would never be happy again. Now, I am thankful that I was wrong.

I know I am not the only person who’s in the same shoes as I was. In fact, even some of my friends encountered (or are encountering) this kind of dilemma. And if you find yourself in this situation, always remember, “Hindi ka nag-iisa.” (You are not alone).

So, how does one recover from loss and heartbreak?

Allow me to share some of my realizations and learning I gained from this experience.

God’s omnipresence

I am the type of person who shows no weakness or sorrow. I rarely share my problems and seldom ask for help. But with the burden I was carrying, I know I cannot survive through it alone.

Every time I felt scared and hopeless, I pray to Him. It was only through attending masses and visiting the church that my mind and heart were kept calm and at ease.

During the retreat I attended at Tagaytay, I realized that it is only Him that is constant in my life and everyone else I will lose in one way or another.

This may sound cliché, but it was only with the Lord that I seek refuge. He gave me hope and strength in my time of need.

Back to square one

Every time I decide to let go of my feelings towards the guy, I end up finding myself communicating with him and being with him. There’s this constant hope that everything would go back to the way it was between us. But, sadly it will never be. Then I’d go back to being miserable and hopeless again.

Trust me, I know that it is indeed very difficult to let go of the one you truly love. And I expect that there will be several attempts (three times for me) to bring things back to normal.

However, you must come to a point where you have to decide that these attempts must be put to an end and be firm with your decision.

This is a phase that everyone will go through (no exception) and it is only a question of time of when will you stop.

Never lose hope!

Find your support system. They can be your family and/or friends. Pour your heart out to them and ask for comfort, advice and guidance. Surely you will find yourself smiling and laughing even for a little while and they will lighten your emotional burden. And whatever it is that you are going through, you will be able to surpass through their help.

Live your passion in life. Do the things you love and those that make you happy! Your world does not revolve on one person alone. Spend time with your family, hangout with your friends, watch movies, listen to music, visit places, read books, write stories, play games, learn new things, and I could go on forever listing all the wonderful things this world has to offer.

Little by little, without you noticing it, you will be able to appreciate the value of your human existence.

Acceptance

The day I told him that I was not OK was also the day I started feeling better.

Lastly, let go and move on.

As I would say it, let go and let God. :)

Free yourself of the “what ifs” and the “what would have been” and instead “LIVE WELL. LOVE MUCH. TRAVEL OFTEN.”

(It must be noted that I was going through this emotional breakdown during my Bar review and exam! Just imagine how I survived. Hence, know and believe that one can fully overcome loss and heartbreak even if it’s the first time.)

As inspired by Katie, I had my First Planking Adventure, with Ezra as my photographer, at Boracay, Philippines.

“PLANKING is a silly game where you find the most ridiculous places to lay face down and take a picture.” ~ katie

All you have to do is lay like a ‘plank of wood’ at weirdest places you can think of and take as many planking shots as you want. At first you’ll feel weird doing it; but once you get the hang of it, you will find yourself having super fun!

Obligation to LOVE

Love is a pure obligation. It sets neither condition nor time, therefore, demandable at once.

For the passive subject, love is unilateral since it is given by mere liberality.

But, nonetheless, obligation to love should be reciprocal. Both active and passive subjects have an obligation to love
and a right to be loved in return.

Obligation to love with a facultative suspensive condition dependent upon the will of the debtor is void. Because there’s no true love upon a person who loves when s/he feels like it. Obligation to love is also void if laid down with an impossible condition. To love is never impossible but setting an impossible condition makes it otherwise.

Love is a prestation that can be lost, deteriorate or improve.

A love lost without debtor’s fault, the obligation to love the same is extinguished and if with debtor’s fault s/he must suffer the consequences of a love lost.

A love deteriorated with debtor’s fault can either be rescinded or be fulfilled upon creditor’s choice. Still the debtor must pay for the injuries set forth in either case. But the creditor must suffer if love deteriorates without debtor’s fault.

A love improved at the expense of the debtor, the latter can enjoy such love as a usufructuary. Still love improved by nature or by time, is the best love a creditor may enjoy.

The sudden loss of my little brother, Jojo, was a real shock to me. Most of the time I see him, eat meals with him, and we spend times together over the internet, movies and pizza. We live under the same roof. There was even a time that we share just one room and sleep in one bed. But not once have I told him how much I value him in my life and showed him the real extent of my love for him. He may not know this, but he was one of the reasons why I decided to study again here in Naga; to look out for him and guide him.

Jojo was a respectful son, a kind brother, a sweet cousin and nephew, a playful Tito, a fun friend and a loving boyfriend. Jojo is a happy-go-lucky guy, a clown, a good leader and very friendly. When he was still a kid, while the family attends the mass, we always find him playing with other kids inside the church. That was how it was easy for him to make friends. From my parent’s officemates and to the friends of his Ate and Kuya and even his cousins, Jojo was very familiar to them. He was a person that builds long-lasting and wonderful friendship from his childhood playmates and neighbours, schoolmates in Naga and Legaspi, to his DIA classmates, DOTA friends and to the table tennis teammates.

He was a loving Tatay to his Nanay Julie whom he loves dearly. The entire family was a witness to the vastness of the love he could actually give to a single person. Julie, thank you for making Jojo’s life filled with happy memories and filled with much love. Thank you for taking care of him when we’re not around. We will be here for you too.

Jojo is a person who will make you smile. He will make you laugh. He will make your day-gone-bad with a day of joy and laughter. Never did he answer back every time Papa and Mama scolded him. Never did he complain when his Ate and Kuya ask errands from him. Never did he get angry to his friends and classmates. Never did he make anyone cry except to his little cousins and nieces or nephews but only as a form of ‘lambing.’ Naalala ko nung bata pa kami palagi ko siyang pinaiiyak hanggang sa paluin na ako ni Papa ng tsinelas. Ganun talaga siguro kapag magkasunod na magkapatid. Yun ang naging lambing ko sa kanya dahil habang siya’y umiiyak sinusuyo ko naman siya. Yun ang namana niya sa akin ang maging ‘parasugot.’

But never did occur to me that in the end he was the one who will make me cry my heart out from days ‘til end. Yet sad to say not on a ‘lambing’ way like I was with him before. The joke’s on me, right?

To Jojo: Mahal na mahal ka naming lahat. Huwag mo na kaming alalahanin dito. Kakayanin naming pamilya ang pagkawala mo. Just carry in your heart all the love and care that we have given you from all the people you left here. We are very blessed to have you in our lives. Wherever you may be, do take care of yourself.

Si Manoy Jess na bahala saimo.

In God’s time, everything that happened for the past few days will make sense. Basta si Lord, lahat may dahilan; lahat may purpose.

WE LOVE YOU, LITTLE BRO! WE WILL SURELY MISS YOU!

The only two media exposures I had were, first, being a guest for a show at a local television station and, second, a random video shot as one of the audience at Raul Roco’s political rally back in 2004. In both instances, the reason why I had these so-called exposures is only because I have an identical twin sister.

The total number of followers I have on Twitter is 141. I don’t even have a fan page on Facebook and most certainly I do not maintain any website on the account of my name. If you search my name on Google, theresults found would not even reach a hundred and mostly these are tags coming from the blog articles of my friends.

And, oh, I dream of working with the United Nations too.

I say my piece and I am pretty sure no one will follow suit. By far, compared with these two, I am JUST a woman in my own right.

I may not be as influential, as famous, and as affluent as Oprah or Angelina Jolie; not even a little bit, but I share one THING with them... PASSION.

I know who I am. I know what my beliefs and principles are. And I definitely know I have a life worth living... with meaning. I believe being passionate about my own personal beliefs and wisdoms then sharing it with others is a service of love. Just like what Oprah and Angelina Jolie are doing. It may not be as grand but I’m willing to take it just as much.

Still, I’m no Oprah or Angelina Jolie. ♥

Even in my elementary and high school years, I was already fond of writing. I used to compose poems and write short stories for my family and friends but I never kept a copy. I started writing in my journals when I was already in college. But with the birth of Friendster, I started posting some of my entries in my journals and a few of my compositions in my Friendster blog back then. Then Blogspot (now Blogger) and Multiply followed suit.

For the past year I haven't been writing nor blogging and I focused more on micro-blogging because of
Facebook, Plurk and Twitter. But now, I want to compile all my blog entries in one site and to continue my
passion for writing and blogging.

This blogger site shall serve as my ONLY OFFICIAL online journal starting today and to be able to share all of my passions to the world.

Worth the wait..

In a brief conversation,

a man asked a woman
he was pursuing the question:

“What kind of man are you looking
for?”

She sat quietly for a moment before
looking him in the eye and asking,
“Do you really want to know?”

Reluctantly, he said “Yes.”

She began to expound…

“As a woman in this day and age,
I am in a position to ask a man
what he can do for me that I can’t do
for myself.
I pay my own bills. I take care of my
household
without the help of any man…
or woman for that matter.

I am in the position to ask,
“What can you bring to the table?”

The man looked at her.
Clearly he thought that she was
referring to money.
She quickly corrected his thought and
stated,
“I am not referring to money.

I need something more.
I need a man who is striving for
perfection
in every aspect of life.”

He sat back in his chair, folded his
arms,
and asked her to explain.

She said “I am looking for someone
who is striving for excellence
mentally
because I need conversation and mental
stimulation.
I don’t need a simple-minded man.

“I am looking for someone
who is striving for excellence
spiritually
because I don’t need to be unequally
yoked…
believers mixed with unbelievers is a
recipe for disaster.

“I need a man who is striving for
excellence financially because I don’t
need a financial burden.

“I am looking for someone
who I can respect. In order to be
submissive,
I must respect him. I cannot be
submissive to a man
who isn’t taking care of his business.
I have no problem being submissive…
he just has to be worthy.

“God made woman to be a help mate for
man.
I can’t help a man if he can’t help
himself.”

When she finished her spill, she
looked at him.
He sat there with a puzzled look on
his face.
He said, “You are asking a lot.”

She replied, “I’m worth a lot.”
