ThoughtfulChaos - My Thoughts. My Chaos. My Blog.

Who me?

Born <del>24</del> 25 years ago in the city of Ahmedabad, I now stay (and work) in <del>Pune</del>, <del>New Delhi</del> Mumbai. I like reading books and tinkering with things. My favourite colour is blue, favourite comic strips are Calvin and Hobbes and Piled Higher and Deeper and favourite poem is Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I especially love the last stanza. I want to write a book, get a PhD, become a professor, invent a thing or two and become famous. Of course I wouldn't mind having a little (or lot of) fun on the way.

NOTE - I no longer blog here. Everything on this blog except for this line is as it is when I stopped blogging here. I now blog at http://varun.net.in/blog/

Bye!

All good things must come to an end. And so must this blog. This is my last post on this blog. Bye ThoughtfulChaos.

This has been my first seriously maintained blog and it has been active for close to a year and a half. I have enjoyed blogging here but now it is time to say adieu. What better time than the New Year’s Eve.

There are no specific reasons for doing this. Well, there are many minor reasons but no single major reason. I have made quite a few friends through this blog and have blogged about many a topic. This blog started out as a platform for my opinions on everything under the sky but pretty soon it turned into just a personal diary read by my Dad, a few close friends and a few more.

There just might be one more post after this but don’t bank on it. Bye for now.

Not in a mood to blog

I just don't feel like blogging any more :-( I am busy alright, but not so busy that I cannot take out 15 mins once in a while to blog. It's just that I don't feel like putting my thoughts or happenings in my life into words any more.

Is it a passing phase? I sure hope so.

Bye Bye Delhi, Hello Mumbai!

This is my last week in Delhi. I am moving to Mumbai next week to puruse a new opportunity!

Same company and same group but different project altogether. Not only a different project but a different job profile and one that is full of challenges. Needless to say I am really excited and all geared up to go.

I will keep this post short because I am really really short of time. More details in the next post.

This weekend will be spent in good old Ahmedabad as planned. I have missed Navratri for 2 years in a row now so this time I made it a point to be in Ahmedabad for Navratri. Many of my friends are also there in Ahmedabad so I am going to have a ball of a time.

That's all for now. Over and out.

The Delhi Bloggers' Meet a.k.a The Mystery of the Missing Butter Chicken

Yawn. Saturday morning. Woke up late. 11:45. Did everything at fastforward. Reached Cafe 100 a bit late at 1:20 for the Delhi Bloggers' Meet.

Had a great time. No fixed agenda. Freewheeling discussions. Tatoos to Technorati. Interesting people. Interesting topics. Decent food. Good coffee. No butter chicken as promised.

The following Delhi bloggers attended the meet:

Aruni - Shy guy but only till he gets to know you. Taught me how to pronounce 'Xo' in Assamese. Pronounced as a forceful 'Ho' with the mouth wide open and warm air being blown out of the mouth.

Blow - Height of modesty. Sings very well but you have to really bug her to make her sing. Sang a few songs including a Punjabi one. Understood only some of the lyrics but enjoyed the songs nonetheless.

Dhiraj - The Tatoo guy. Totally at peace with his world. Conclusively ended speculation on how many tatoos he has when he arrived.

Prasoon - The only person I have met before. Sang the Amitabh Bachan song 'Jahan char yaar...' from sharabi. Never knew that song had so interesting lyrics. I am terrible when it comes to lyrics. Can never ever remember them.

River - Host. River not her real name. The seniormost blogger in the bunch. You can read her account of the meet here

Scout - Guest of honour. Really like her style of blogging. She has also blogged about this meet but I cannot find the permalink to the post, this little hack should start working in a few days, it does not right now.

Shivam - The celebrity blogger with truckloads of gossip. His blog personna seems much more seedha saada than he really is. Shivam has blogged about the event here

MasiJeevi - One of the coolest blog names I have come across. Meaning one who lives on ink. Why can I never cook up a name like that? You can read his account of the meet here. Indic fonts not installed on this Debian, so cannot read his blog. Got 57 out of 100 in Hindi in my 10th boards. Only time in my life I cried on seeing my exam results.

Tejaswi - One of the first bloggers on my blogroll. Back when I had a blogroll small enough to fit on my blog. New to Delhi. Was somewhat lost. Showed him the Metro. Was impressed. Me too happy to found somebody newer to Delhi than me.

Will keep updating above list as other posts about the meet appear.

Actual meet was followed by me and Tejaswi going to Oxford Book Store which was bit of disappointment and then finally going to Amrit Book Co (can you have a more boring name?) where I bought 4 books, all classics in their own ways. (Re)Resolved to read at least couple of books every month. Finally started towards my long-standing goal of having all the Asimov books in my collection by getting I, Robot.

All in all a very nice day. It's 4:15 AM right now and am still wide awake. Might start reading one of the books.

Oh btw after having lunch we were cribbing about how butter chicken was not available at Cafe 100 when. That's when waiter pointed out a dish on the menu called 'Murgh Makhani'. Call us desi firangs, aur kya?

Just another update

Monday morning. Lots of work at office and here I am sitting at home blogging and checking my email. Am actually waiting for roomies to get ready since we try and go together to office to cut down on the auto-rickshaw fare.

It is damn hot here in Delhi. The rains in Ahmedabad are nothing compared to those in Kerala. And the rains in Delhi are nothing compared to those in Ahmedabad. Not even once, in Delhi, have I felt that monsoons had come. The rains come and go like screensavers, by the time you realise that it is raining it is gone.

Life has been as usual lately. Home-office-home routine is boring the hell out of me. Maybe it is a quarter life crisis (term stolen from Prashant). I feel that some of my friends are also going through the same phase in life I feel. Pratik keeps insisting that I move to Bangalore so that we can freak out together. And I keep telling him to come to Delhi!

The last couple of months have been very good for rediscovering long-lost friends and getting back in touch with some old friends. We managed to retrace Abhishek, Vinu and Meha, all Prakash oldies. I have also been talking to most of my friends more often lately.

Suman is in India. Couple of weeks back when I had gone to Ahmedabad around Independence day we freaked out like anything. Bantu had also come down from Bangalore and Mona was already there in Ahmedabad. It was like old times when we would all just sit down together and talk till kingdom come. In the afternoon we went to Cafe Upper Crust on University Road. I knew that CUC had very good cakes and pastries but I did not knew they also served excellent non-veg. Independence day eve we had a night-out at Bantu's place and needless to say most of it was spent talking into the wee hours of the morning. Guess what? We called up our Australia gang and talked to Sanket and Gunjan, everybody else had left for work. Actually we sang the national anthem at the top of our voices! Nice way to celebrate I-Day!

Yesterday evening I had a nice time with Sriram (a.k.a Shiru). We were just roaming around in Delhi and eventually ended up at Priya for dinner. We had out dinner at a cool but damn expensive place called Opus. After ages I rode a bike and that too a Thunderbird (my first time). Damn good bike, heavy, powerful and fast. I had a tough time with the gears (bit different from other bikes) but it was a nice riding a bike after such a long time. It has almost made me want to go out and buy a bike right now.

Chalo that's all for now. Looks like I will have to go and prod my roomies to hurry up. See you later.

Experience: 2 years

On this day, 2 years ago, I joined my current company. It has been a very interesting 2 years with lots of ups and downs, both on the professional front and personal front. In these 2 years I have seen 4 new cities (Trivandrum, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi), gone through around 2 or 3 job profiles, picked lots of new skills, made lots of new friends, lost touch with some friends, lived alone far away from my family and probably morphed into an adult. I still am not sure about the last part but well that's me.

Add to this my TAship with DA-IICT and the various industry internships I did makes my experience looks like A la Carte Menu! I enjoyed all of them so no complaints.

It does feel good but if you think about it 2 years is not a big deal, right? Maybe but when you are 25 2 years _IS_ a big deal. So here is wishing myself and all my batchmates a happy anniversary and wishing for many many more productive and fruitful years for everybody.
