As I read scripture I always ask, “Why did God put this here?” Acts 1-6 is there by no accident or coincidence! God knew that if His Church was to have power and be effective it would have to have integrity! For His people to be credible witnesses they would have to have integrity! Integrity is when your actions back up your words and your words are congruent with your actions. The old system of Temple Priests, Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes was full of hypocrites and phonies. God, in filling us with the Holy Spirit, set up a whole new standard. God wants His people to be full of integrity!

Moses, Job, Jonah, David, Jeremiah, Elijah and Peter all experienced deep times of depression but the good news is all of them eventually came though and experienced a new and lasting Joy! We all are susceptible to depression! Sometimes it is “acute” which is short term and stems from some external situation or circumstance and we bounce back. Sometimes depression is “chronic” which is more long term and can become ingrained in us as an outlook upon life. Either way, God knows that we have a fertile field for cultivating depression in our minds. Our enemy knows that he can attack us in the way we think. We must take every thought captive!!

Do you remember the old hymn, “The Wonder of it All”? There doesn’t seem to be much “wonder” in our world anymore! Our senses are so bombarded everyday that we are on sensory overload! In this kind of world it is so easy to become so hardened and desensitized until there is no wonder left. I believe from time to time we have to make an intentional effort to restore the wonder of Christmas.

I’ve studied the subject of the end times or the last things throughout my 30 years in ministry. As I study Eschatology and read the scriptures that there are two major points, the first is that time is almost up and the second is that opportunity is almost over! When we think of heaven it provokes joy in the believer’s heart but it also has a sense of urgency. This life can seem long and hard but the Bible says that our life is but a vapor, a mist, a twinkling of an eye, here one moment and gone the next. God’s grace is so sufficient and powerful that it can get us all the way home! Let’s consider life after death.

Guilt & shame are powerful forces that the enemy uses against us! Because of guilt we are often our own worst enemy! Even after we have accepted Christ we still struggle to cope with our past. Today, I hope to help you deal with any residual guilt and be free from its effects by the grace of God!

Did you see what she did to me? Did you hear what he said to me? Jesus said in Luke 17:1, “It is impossible that no offense should come.” Offenses reveal the heart condition and maturity of the Christian. We desperately need God's “Get-a-long Grace” to be able to maneuver the minefields Satan puts in our way! Satan draws us into his trap by using "offenses" as bait. He wants you to get offended and then react and respond without love or grace.

Praise God for His saving grace! Once we received saving grace we are adopted into Gods Family and our new heavenly Father begins working on cleaning up all the “stuff” that fills our life that is not Christlike, not loving, not to His glory! He orders the Holy Spirit to go to work on us and that is when His Guiding Grace kicks into high gear! It is God’s way of moving us onward to maturity.

Shift Where You Sit
About 20 years ago Dr. Bruce Wilkinson wrote about three different categories of spiritual commitment that everyone in society falls into. This concept is the “Three Chairs” concept. That every person is right now sitting in one of the three chairs.
Those three are (1) the chair of commitment (2) the chair of compromise (3) the chair of complacency. It is eternally important that you identify the chair you are in today and if corrections need to be made.

The Apostle Paul prepares Christians at Ephesus for what was ahead of them as they endeavored to live for Christ in a fallen world. Shift Who You Follow
Last Sunday we quoted the scripture “Be very careful, then, how you live...”
Today, we are cautioned to be very careful who we follow!
The only one worthy of our emulation and imitation is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That is exactly God’s will for us, that we should bear the image and likeness of His Son. (Rom. 8:29 Jesus mandated that we deny self, take up our cross and follow Him! (Lk. 9:23)
Who you are following is of eternal importance.
