"It is still not clear who will replace the US consumer as a source of
demand." World Bank President Robert Zoellick warned Monday that many
risks still exist on the road of recovery as the world economy is "in a
precarious state."

yes indeed, the tide is turning, tsunamis rising,
deep beneath the earth feel the quaking ,
sleeping dogs awakening ,
realizing their names have been taken in vain to create global pain.

money maneuvers, masked
mass murder under freedom's flag bombs over Bhagdad,
drones and clones,
so afraid in the land of the free, folks don't even leave home except to rush to the grinding stone,
spreading tumors by cell phone, obese on food that's fast,
mentally emaciated underclass, wishing for green grass ,
actually chem-lawn sprayed, again we've been played;
to what do we owe this dishonor?
to what direction do we pray?

In the arms of pharmaceuticals we run away --

the need for healthcare may outpace the greed called corporate welfare,
if the people can be persuaded that it's worth it to care --

we do matter when we see the mad hatter is simply mad and needs to be captured under the looking glass, where the light of day will fry his vampire ass --

still teaching Columbus colonized the Indians in history class ,
no truth to be found in the halls of matriculation,
evolution is born anew at sunrise after a dreamy gestation -
what do you see behind closed eyes?

if it's not liberation then enjoy the daily dose of lies,
news to keep the mind on snews steady regurgitation of emotional abuse

Last Drop of Oil, Last Breath of Air

<meta content="text/html; healing so necessary
why waste time on the blame game?
One finger pointed at you, three back at me,
lets turn these fingers into a helping hand and set the captives free.
Mr BP CEO you messed up so how can we come together in full responsibility,
cause you're only sucking the planets blood to feed my insatiability.

Last drop of oil, Last gasp of air,
not even enough for a prayer...

searching for Nemo in BP's oily inferno,
as above so below,
there must be a (chakra) leak, internal
energy flows with no end in sight,
buttons pushed lead to bad nights,
youth on the street express love as a fight; we stuff emotions to work in a box,
we profess free while holding tight to all we've got,
as above so below, there's no separation,
the Gulf gusher simply models our multinational/internal/external/ desperation.

How many species must die so my car can go?
how many wetlands turned to oily wastelands for the sake of convenient transportation?
In a nation built on slavery and genocide, who feels a pinch when filling up the ride?
So separate from cause and effect, we wonder if we need to slow down after the wreck.
Business as usual, profits at all costs,
discounting 7 generations or more, smiling on the way to the mega-store
constantly extracting with no way to give back,
no intent to return what's been taken from the ground and burned,
no reciprocity to the support of our humanity
lost in the insanity of unlimited growth fueled by vanity.

What are we without fresh water, fertile earth & clean air?
If we can't sustain life here, it's hubris to think we'll do better elsewhere. there's no security in oil, more disasters than we care to admit. The corporation is the gun, greed the bullet,
we the people squeeze the trigger, making decisions oblivious of consequences. The dead children of Operation Iraqi Liberation (oil)
afghani-pipeline-istan, Nigeria fields awash with crude hued blood,
strange fruits from Alberta tar sands, oil mixed with mud.
We have found the enemy and he is me,
i must embrace the other, make the criminal my brother,
unconditional love like the fully engaged mother,
then we transform pain into joy,
blame into opportunity,
our oily reality into a sun-drenched, wind blown future of sustainability

No-Fault Death Cults

What are killer's made of? Basic training reduces complex men to basic instincts of kill or be killed -- there's no time to ask questions just follow orders, the training is that good. Until some take the training a little to serious and start painting outside the lines; then the powers that be start whispering war crimes, as though war in and of itself isn't a crime; destroying landscapes, the psychological damage akin to cultural rape. Who's the hero when killing is wholesale and civilians are counted as collateral? We all die a little, while some line their casket in cash. Why do we insist on war as the path to change? What to do with warriors who have learned that killing is the game? Let them back into the family though things have changed; some burn slow inside, some blow up and let bullets fly. Abroad it can be overlooked, years later investigations and confessions in books. Too bad death gives no second looks. In the heat of battle men lose their minds, we blame the product but not the manufacturer; the soldier not the general nor policy maker; those who train to hate continue as we castigate the hater.

Long and Wrong

Power Corrupts Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

Society is built on power. Usually there are checks and balances to ones power until one reaches the top. The politician can be checked by those who write the checks or voters during election cycles. The preacher can be checked by trustees, deacon boards and/or members, only when these entities are active and engaged. Pimps can be checked by the police but seldom by the prostitute aka ho, unless they leave him. Each of these P’s can easily slip into the realm of absolute power.

Bishop Eddie Long an illustrious leader of a mega-church in Atlanta Georgia is facing allegations of abusing his power to bed young men. Why is this an issue? Well for one Bishop Long is known for railing against homosexuality. This in and of itself is hypocritical. It is widely accepted that queer folks are in the black church. The stereotype of the queer choir director, musician and lead singer is well known and true in many circumstances. Yet often times in the black community we overlook the sexual proclivities of folks in our families, communities and the spiritual community. As long as “they” do what “they” do quietly in the background there’s no problem. But, when the gay community stands up to be counted and have their needs addressed, many old-school blacks are heard decrying homosexuality as a great sin and abomination. This hypocrisy is so regular it’s practically normal, but Eddie Long seems to have taken things a few steps further.

As the numbers of men alleging sexual contact with Bishop Long has increased from one to four, the members of his church where shown applauding him as he characterized himself as David facing Goliath. No his David is not facing the Goliath of lust or sex addiction, or bi-sexuality and the abuse of power. Bishop Long’s Goliath is the “media” and all the white folks salivating for the flesh of black men of power and distinction. This mythos of the targeted black is built from a kernel of truth, yet it can’t be applied to every situation. Sure powerful black men are constantly under attack. The FBI under Hoover were assigned to deny the rise of a black Messiah. Surely these orders are still in use today. Yet knowing this, why would any black man, woman or any person of conscious allow themselves to be in a position of easy victimization?

There’s a scripture which states, "shun the very appearance of evil."(I Thessalonians 5:22) This tenant, when adhered to, is perfect protection from the attacks of those who would discredit those working to do good and bring about change in a stagnant social-political system. Bishop Long missed this scriptural advice and appears to have transgressed against his self-proclaimed sin of homosexuality.

Even though Christ’s only law was love, church folks have made a career of judging and excluding people. Maybe the fall of Mr. Long (upcoming movie of the week), will open the door for church folks to return to love. If history is a guide, Bishop Long will offer teary eyed apologies and appeals for prayer then disappear for a year or two and return with a fresh haircut and his swagger re-tuned to salvation. There are thousands of people more willing to follow, than look within for guidance and direction.

Free Ayiti

Democratic elections with a side of intestinal infection
From the 1st slave ships pursuing the riches of capitalism in it's infancy to the prison industrial complex still plundering the wealth of black gold, the theft of souls is America's apple pie, so sweet we deny how sick it makes us all. Every now and again our conscience is pricked and a few rise up to say "not in my name! You won't kill (insert name of person perceived to be innocent) on my watch!" Inevitably the watch keeps ticking, the executioner perfects his method, injection, electric chair, whatever the tool the results the same.

Our nation seeks revenge in Jesus' name, willfully ignorant of the hypocrisy of a so-called Christian nation turning to state sponsored execution, a method which killed the innocent Savior, as a means of justice. No need to touch on this, all that's needed is to refer back to Chief Justice Taney who proclaimed from the bench of America's highest court that blacks "had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and that the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit." This sentiment still holds true for the millions of melanin rich men, women and children languishing in penal facilities from sea to shining sea.

As long as white supremacy and racism continue to dominate policy and procedure the innocent will die as the propagandized repeat the mantra "God bless America, the greatest country in the world."

Black Holocaust Unending - Reflections on 50 years after civil rights

What is truly a mark of tacit progress in the ongoing holocaust of black people in Amerikkka is turned into a celebration of a so-called democracy which yet refuses to admit the humanity of most of its citizens. From nigger, to aliens both illegal and assumed so, to inmates entire classes disenfranchised and none given the elite status of bankers, moguls and financiers the true founders of the republic. They play our spirituals forged in the broken hearts of mothers mourning giving birth in a land where there child is more probable to bleed anonymously in the street than be recognized for any great social contributions. They use our eloquence to gloss over the never ending genocide with the veneer of political import and armchair revolution. No change came from singing and speeches alone. Marching was the last resort after bleeding and dying continued to be ignored. Now even marching is bankrupt sponsored by those who value people as mindless consumer drones. The fascist state punishes thought and critique and rewards acquiescence and acceptance. Pres Obama tried to insinuate that a critical lens on Amerikkka's progress or regress would be a disrespect to the movement, this is revisionist thinking at its best. For without a brutal analysis of today's Jim Crow and the evisceration of public education with which it walks hand in hand we would miss our opportunity to cry freedom and work justice. We must criticize and recognize the continual genocide no matter the hue of the president who after all proves to be the mouthpiece of empire. The quest for freedom and justice comes from those who aren't free and during these March On Washington 50th anniversary celebrations men confined in cages are being force fed in California supermax prisons proving there are still some who are unbroken on the threshing room floor. Who speaks for them in Babylon's final hours?

Hosts stood in 3 sections, fingers held up, signing seat availability.

They came.

You may call them homeless or dispossessed.
I see them as the wandering parts of us, our consciousness denied;
the playful child who never wanted to sit still,
just wanted to run and play and laugh and
tell stories,
throw rocks,
climb trees,
skip and
           dodge and
be.

The philosopher with no degree.
refuse tossed aside by military and penitentiary.
we who find shelter in bottles and libraries.

There he is at a table of 6 enjoying the leftovers of our scheduled lives,
restaurant wastes of our haste to build more than we can take.

Here she comes, a queen.
Her thrown glances indict us for allowing a family to carry their world in bags
from cave to cave in these modern days.
She knows the machine has a ghost
cause it died so long ago, rusted like
american manufacturing, know-how and freedom.

Are you crying, again?
Like you did when you saw me on t.v. covered in flies, belly full of worms and gas.
Call me neighbor and save that water for a garden.
We fools believe we're wise, chasing dreams advertised.
The awakened are criticized for revealing the dream is cancerous inside.

A little more soup for the road,
keep it stirred so no one will know
so many pieces make up the mix,
we all have a part in this cabaret.

Shift change.

Glad you came, now drift away.
Sure to see you again transient friend
invisible ( but for the hours we shared today)
until we no longer look away.

Be Happy (the alternatives just can't compete :)

Someone should investigate whether the Bowser administration and most notably Kaya Henderson are working for Corrections Corporation of America or the GEO group (2 of the largest for profit prison companies) because their school system is developing future inmates rather than future innovators.

The numbers from the recent Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) tests speak for themselves.

80% of Black children in grades 3-8 are testing below grade level!!! What is being done with our children? What is being done with our tax dollars? Why is this acceptable? Why are many rushing to excuse this as a baseline that will be built from? Didn’t Michelle Rhee set a baseline during her time? Wasn’t the wholesale firing of so-called underperforming teachers promoted as a panacea? Hundreds of veteran teachers were purged by Rhee and replaced by Teach for America novices and look at the results. We’re being lied to as another generation is groomed for incarceration.

This is beyond crisis level failure. All the blame can’t be placed upon Mayor Bowser and Superintendent Henderson, they are simply the latest in a cadre of disconnected mis-leadership lacking in imagination and commitment to anyone but their cronies and funders.

Why aren’t parents in the streets? Cause many of them were raised by the same system that’s miseducating and under-educating their children. Cause they’re too busy being blamed for the problem. Cause capitalism provides no supports for those who do not produce, so instead of raging for their children they’re hustling to survive.
Why is this so important? Because low test scores fuel the cradle to prison pipeline! A few data points:

The National Adult Literacy Survey reported that the percentage of prisoners in U.S. jails who tested at the two lowest levels of reading proficiency is 70% (2003).

The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Commerce estimates that 30 percent of federal inmates, 40 percent of state prison inmates, and 50 percent of persons on death row are high school dropouts (2003, 2007).

Dr. Andrew Sum and his colleagues at Northeastern University found that young people who drop out of high school are 63% more likely to be incarcerated or otherwise institutionalized than their peers with four-year college degrees (2009).

Of course, capitalism will extract profits, whether through one’s labor or one’s very blood. So there are prison industries eager to take in the new crop of streetwise, world ignorant, skills deficient young adults once they drop-out of malfunctioning school systems. No-thing has inherent value in this system, value is based on what can be extracted for consumption and thus everything is devalued even the minds of the youth, their potential, their future.

Does anyone care as long as they get theirs? Even the childless hordes rushing the city borders, new neighbors (misnomered gentrifiers) should be incensed, for how can their safety be assured in a city where undereducated, unemployed, Black and Latino youth roam the street, intoxicated and waiting. (sometimes stereotypical fears can motivate)

If good people do nothing, the continued destruction of black families, communities and futures will be on all our heads. In the interconnected world in which we live, the destruction of one will ultimately lead to the destruction of us all, let’s not wait and see.

Clearly there needs to be greater public oversight over the school system. The elected school board should be given power to oversee DCPS, a power that was stripped in 2007 to allow then Mayor Fenty to act as czar over education, which resulted in the Rhee debacle which history will reveal as the orchestrated dismantling of public education in exchange for corporatized charter models.

Those of us who are awake must come together to protect our future, the children. I’m challenging all church and civic organizations to make our children’s education priority #1. Let’s not only talk about the problem, let’s come together and let these elected officials know that failure is not acceptable and that the educational failure of our youth is not on the child nor on ill-equipped parents but on the system that is under serving them.

Lastly, let’s be self determining in developing tutoring programs, learning centers for all ages and opportunities for skills building. If our tax dollars are not being properly administered at the very least we can use our time and talent to be the change!
including attorneys, business managers and accountants. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/02/22/bc-randy-quaid-immigration.html Look at Michael Jackson, his name and image
is being licensed for all types of things, even Cirque du Soleil has a MJ
themed show. Who’s getting paid from this? Not The King of Pop’s children or
family. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/23/arts/music/23jackson.html

Leonard Rowe, concert promoter and author of What Really Happened to Michael Jackson The King of Pop, recently spoke at a McClendon
Group function. Before he touched on his book and the conspiracy to steal
Michael’s assets, he pulled the lid off of the William Morris Agency and its
institutional racism and bigotry. For those who don’t know, the William Morris
Agency is the largest talent agency in THE WORLD. They have been in business
for 114 years and represent everyone who is anyone in Hollywood, the music
industry, modeling and more.

Mr. Rowe has promoted concerts for more than 35 years. In
his business it was common knowledge that promoters had to pay a 50% deposit to
secure a tour date for a particular artist. What he didn’t know was this
requirement only applied to BLACK promoters! Mr. Rowe’s white counterparts were
required to pay a 10% deposit on occasion, but were mostly given dates for NO
MONEY DOWN! Talk about a welfare program to increase white wealth!! So of
course after discovering this injustice Mr. Rowe went on the hunt for answers.
When he could get none from William Morris, he took them to court.

An anonymous tipster told Mr. Rowe to check the internal
emails of the principals at William Morris. He passed these instructions on to
his attorneys, who told him he had wasted $200,000 because they had found
nothing. Then one day he entered his attorney’s office and saw a document
filled with racial epithets. “What’s this?” he asked. “You’re not supposed to
see that,” replied the attorney. “But my name is on the top of the paper.” Thus
began what promises to be a landmark suit detailing violations of commerce law
and exposing William Morris Agency as a racist agency intent on marginalizing
black people. The list, which Mr. Rowe shared with all who attended the
session, contains the names of William Morris principals and the epithets they
used in emails and the number of times the words came up. “Monkey”, “Spade”,
“Coon” and “Nigger” where used dozens of times by some, hundreds of times by
others such as JGriffone (could this be Jim Griffin?) So not only was William
Morris colluding to limit black promoters’ access to acts, eg. NO BLACK
promoter can book major white acts, while white promoters have unlimited access
to whatever artists they choose. Also once black promoters broke an act
nationally and they crossed over, they were shut out of promoting them. In
other words, once the heavy lifting was done and the money spigot was full on,
black promoters were forced to the sidelines to continually grind and break
acts for the profit of others.

Marcus Washington, a former William Morris Agency employee,
also spoke. He was part of a graduate trainee program when he noticed there
were NO BLACK agents at William Morris’ New York Office, neither were there any
blacks anywhere in leadership. Other than him, the smatterings of black faces
were in the mailroom or some other support positions. As his program continued
he witnessed whites being moved into more senior positions while he was stuck
in a holding pattern. When he brought this up with HR and others he was told
that William Morris does not discriminate, yet the proof was far too clear. Marcus
was offered 5 months pay and shown the door, he too is suing the Agency. It is
clear that we’re far from a post-racial America. It’s imperative that people of
color and allies of conscience come together to address racism and bigotry
which continues to drain the potential from our nation of lofty aims.

When asked why he and Marcus Washington no longer retained
attorneys for their cases, Mr. Rowe stated, “William Morris can write a
life-changing check.” Money may talk and corrupt the US (in)justice system, yet we must use
our voices and people power in the quest for justice. Reach out to Mr. Rowe,
investigate his case for yourself and then let the Judge and US Attorneys know
that justice will not be denied.

Ahh for once the black guys get to play the game like the big boys. Last season it was Lebron and Wade creating their version of the Dream Team. Now Kobe Bryant may take his talents to Italy as the NBA owners decide if their nose is worth more than their face. Globalism is good for the capitalist so why not for the pawn of his profit driven games. Go for it brothers I hope Europe, Japan, China whoever can, will pay to keep you in high heeled women and VIP suites. Then maybe we can channel some of those billions placed in advertising, and salaries into educating our misguided youth and recalibrating adults with the skills to market their wares in the last days of this capitalist economy.

Reginald Lewis' "Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun" is a must read and an awesome expose of the bigotry which yet exists in the world of big business and finance.

The State Killed Jesus, Why Not You?

The execution of black men happens again and again in these disunited states. From the 1st slave ships pursuing the riches of capitalism in it's infancy to the prison industrial complex still plundering the wealth of black gold. The theft of souls is America's apple pie, so sweet we deny how sick it makes us all.

Ask a teenager to recite a poem or a passage from their favorite piece of literature and you'll be met with silence. Ask them their favorite rapper or song and you'll hear verse after verse, a mountain of lyrics to prove the worthiness of their idol. Just today, while spending some time with incarcerated teens, I was schooled on the value of Yo Gotti and his CM6 (Cocaine Music 6) contemporary classics. Hip Hop is all about creativity and originality, being stuck on themes of dope dealing, thugism and wanton violence violates the spirit of a music which began as the voice of the voiceless.

This brings me to Lil Wayne, he of the tattooed, pierced face, he who has turned the line between hip hop and rock into a slackline on which he bounces, twists, turns and flips. LilTunechi's latest trick R&B or should I say soul. His song, "How to Love" is a smooth rumination on the struggle many women have to find love in a world of materialism and objectification. To top off an inspired song that is more soul music than R&B because it speaks to the soul with a message of love's power, the video is inspired and filled with meaning.

In the "How to Love" video, a young woman reacting to child hood abuse makes choices which end in a HIV diagnosis, then we see what happens when her mother chooses love and creates a nurturing environment which ends in the same young women now being told she's pregnant. In a time when videos struggle for relevance and too few musicians take the influence they have seriously, Lil Wayne raises the bar with this one. Other rappers have challenged his pedigree because he rides skateboards, plays guitars and sings. I think he's showing us what happens when a person embraces their whole self and expresses who they are without fear. This is an example we all get to follow. Lil Wayne not only reminds us "How to Love" he also reminds us how to freely create.
America’s current financial debacle is a wakeup call to the entire nation. We have languored in our adolescence for far too long. Building sexy bombs, flexing our well oiled muscles on the beaches of the world, taking everything we want and daring anyone to “say something, just say something.” Yeah, knew you wouldn't. Now the world speaks, cynically we cheered them on in Tahir knowing the same could never happen here, the land of the most expensive free elections in the world. Like an unguided teen we spend money we don't have, racking up bills we know will never come due. We're invincible, the lone superpower. Our cape drapes continents, we decide who lives and dies, a little aid here, an embargo there, maybe drop some bombs to make the point clear. Snatching the oil of our sometimes friends till they join the list of enemies. We ignore the signs and now the payment has come due.

This is not a rant about the government. Who are they but an extension of we who empower them. We vote them in as the parents we expect to clean all the messes and pay all the bills without our help (and fund us thru jobs and allowances). As though these men and too few women are not just like us, bouncing checks, full of lust and drunkenness, likely to make mistakes and be influenced by wealth and power.

We point fingers when they fall from the pedestals we built for them, even as we crawl as infants waiting on the largesse of capital market forces filtered by the government. It's not politicians or politics’ dirty tricks. It's not Wall Street capital crooks. It's none of what's promoted in books. It's us, the adolescents thinking well clean it all up once we turn 18 or 20 or 25 or 30. Our collective resistance to responsibility is what is keeping this game going. Our collective adolescence serves as preservative. Now our tax rating has dropped a grade, we taste the failure that’s long overdue.

Standard and Poor’s AA+ valuation is an opportunity for conscious Americans to band together. We must embrace the challenge of seizing the reins of our runaway beast of a nation. How about term limits, publicly funded elections, and a reduction in the military budget? Those presently occupying the White House and the houses of Congress DO NOT have the aforementioned items on their agenda. Yet polls say that we the people do. The beauty of democracy is the ability of the people to change those in government. First we must grow up (face reality), get up (off the couch) and show up (wherever like minded people are putting plans into action). The world is changing too rapidly for us to hesitate any longer.
Jessie Jackson Jr.

President Obama Warrants No Defense

In a recent Congressional speech, Jessie Jackson Jr. Was heard alluding the fact that President Obama is having a tougher time getting cooperation from Congress than previous Presidents. This may be true, yet it does not address the President's strategy of conceding to right wing idealogues before their demands are clearly articulated, while turning his back on those who got him into office.

It's hard for me to defend President Obama as he continues to drop bombs on brown skin people all over the world, as he has deported more brown skinned people than any President before, as I see children and men locked into cycles of criminality and imprisonment, I can't defend him against bigotry cause in most cases his policies are in alignment with the bigots and haters of humanity.

We as African people need to wake up! Every person of color is not focused on us or our needs. President Obama is one of the elite and he aspires to be accepted by them. (Yes that's schizophrenic - racist white supremacists lets him in the club yet differentiate between old and new money, blue and black blood, keeping the blacks who have access to wealth & power constantly pandering for acceptance and doing nothing for the communities which birthed and championed them.)

Yes racism and white supremacy are real, yet even Harriet Tubman left folks behind who couldn't see the value of freedom. President Obama doesn't see the poor, doesn't see working immigrants, doesn't see the majority of us. Maybe we should take a note from his book and become blind to his need for re-election and focus on what we can do for ourselves.
