To speak of the ideal world is to be lost in the mists of the mind as it travels into realms that only exists in formlessness. It could just be dreaming with no apparent connection to reality. This is obvious to the practical man which only sees those things that are big and rough. It does not take into account the components of reality which cannot be seen by the naked eye.

I have seen enough and I know enough of dreams and reality to be certain that they are not different essentially, merely manifestations or forms of the same reality. I like to think of hard reality as dreams becoming solidified. When someone talks about being realistic, he affirms the reality and negates his capability to change that reality.

I dream a lot and I used to despair of it because my dreams never come true or only come true at a much later date. So, I am always ahead of my time. Come to think of it, all my dreams have become reality. I have to work on instant manifestation.

What is the ideal world

Is there such a thing as an ideal world? I have been doing a lot of research while in Cagayan de Oro City and things are not so straightforward now as they did before. I have been greatly involved in the microorganism project which is the linchpin of natural farming. Planting lakatan bananas in Cagayan de Oro City has involved me in this activity and I am beginning to suspect that a lot of things are not as they appear to be.

For instance, my research has told me that there are 100 trillion cells in the human body. There are also between 10 and 100 trillion microorganisms in a person's gut. What this tells me is that the microorganisms in his gut are the support group of his body. Should the mix be negative then there would surely be diseases in his body. Should the mix be good then he is assured of good health.

I have encountered a lot of theories while in Cagayan de Oro City and this is not a bad thing at all. Even if my research flies against the grain of conventional wisdom, I do believe that there is a lot of research that still need to be done.

Conflict

The conflict has just started. Like clockwork, it began innocuously, surreptitiously, like a thief in the night it came seeking to plunder my precious peace of mind. Luckily, I had an inkling that this would begin shortly and it did. My little experiment is following familiar patterns. I should be careful not to lose my monitor, my witnessing entity that keeps me above the fray of my own mind as my thoughts battle amongst themselves. There is a way that thoughts are provoked and this is inter-connected with everything. Nothing exists outside this universe of discourse and I should realize this. Everything in the universe is connected and my own thoughts are part of the universe. My thoughts determine my feelings and emotions and they can be sparked or started by something from outside of me. This has just happened and I have just witnessed this interconnectivity.

How can I think of the ideal world at this time? There seems to be no ideal world as far the real world is concerned. It seems to me that the only ideal world there is can be found only in the minds of people like me who have not found anything ideal about the real world. Maybe I need to change the way I think about the world and see the good things and not just the bad. Maybe then I will find something that remotely resembles an ideal world, the one that I have in my mind. The mind is very idealistic. It seeks perfection even when it is impossible to produce in a world which is constantly changing. Can such a world exist in the flux that we call existence?

Ideals and Ideal thoughts

Why is there a difference between the real and the ideal? Could it be because the mind somehow filters out those parts which feel incongruous with the rest of the thought? Is there an innate mechanism to seek symmetry in all things and to reject those that seem unordered? The thoughts of people cause them to come in conflict with others. Take the case of politics, Democrats with their liberal minds and Republicans with their conservative minds. Each one believes that it has the right philosophy to run the American government.

This is also the case with Philippine politics with the simple difference from the American model, it is not philosophy that guides or governs the thoughts of the Filipino politician but greed. Greed for power which directly equates with greed for wealth. With power, the politician can line his own pockets thinking that he will not be caught. The Filipino politician has no sense of history. He has forgotten that Marcos was brought down by a woman and had to leave ignominiously like a thief in the night while the rabble battered down his doors.

The Ideal World - Utopia

I cannot find Utopia on any map. It doesn't seem to exist anywhere at all in this planet except maybe in the minds of countless people who wish for something better than their sorry lot. There is a lot of strife everywhere and even in sleep one cannot find refuge from the struggles of daily life. Dreams of conflict invade our slumber and keep us from ever finding that peace we so fervently long for. The ideal world is a funny place. There is not one world but many. A guy who has lost a few of his marbles once declared America to be heaven on earth and when pressed for a reason for this pronouncement he said, "There is free love in America".

Fevered thoughts calming down

The desire to do something to alleviate suffering fueled the heart of the Buddha and he left the good, pampered life of his father's palace for the life of the one who sought answers to human suffering. I do not know if there is ever any way that the ideal world can be built. We certainly have the intelligence to build tall buildings, huge ocean-going vessels, super-fast computers and other feats that defy the imagination.

Trains run as fast as planes thanks to the magic of science and technology. Creativity is helped greatly by technology such that budding musicians can record their own songs in their own homes thanks to the power of personal computers and audio-editing software. My greatest wish is to be able to help make a dent in this disjointed world and bring the ideal world to the fore.

Does The Ideal World Exist Only In Concept?

Is it at all possible to create an ideal world? Is the concept tenable or even desirable? We know that the universe is in constant fluz, that electrons hardly ever stay in their orbits. They fly off at the slightest provocation to form part of other elements and stuff that makes this existence so exasperatingly changeable but never uninteresting. It is the very nature of the Universe to be constantly changing, like tides, like Night and Day. Every second there are children born and there are many who take their last breaths. In between there are people who breathe the same air and dream the same dreams. They experience pleasures and pains which have formed part of human history.

There s hardly any difference between a child's cry of a thousand years ago and a child's cry of today. Both experience the same distress and pain and suffering as will all who are to be born into this earth. History shows us oppression has always been the norm, that human beings exploit and harass and enslave other human beings. Laws and Social Contracts do not protect anyone from plunder and pillaging when the plunderers and pillagers are more powerful than those who envisioned such contracts.

We see all the time the ruins of kingdoms and empires. They all share the same fate as the giants who roamed this earth. The great and the mighty are not immune to the ravages of time nor even to the sting of tiny bacteria and viruses that plague and decimate large numbers of those infinitely greater than them. The father of the Buddha sought to protect his son from the realities of existence to no avail. The young prince still managed to escape his paradise walls to see disease, aging and death, the lot of mortal men.

The humble simplicity of Jesus Christ is a stark contrast to the pomp and circumstance of the Catholic Church which could never blot out the horrors and inhumanity of the Inquisition. Mohammed, whose inheritors cry that God is Great! has spawned a fundamentalist movement which is cruel not only to those of their own faith but even more so to others with different sets of beliefs. That Muslim Fundamentalists skinned alive the sublime martyr Imadeddin Nasimi centuries ago seems a continuation of an idea which is intolerant of other systems of belief.

Is the idea of an Ideal World something which can never be achieved? Is the human race incapable of accepting the fact that human life is precious and must be protected at all costs? What of animal life for that matter? Scientists have discovered that we share a great deal of genetic materials with the humble nematode. Is animal life different from human life? If humans can be cruel to fellow humans, can they be less cruel to animals?

Life goes on and new mornings always come. Ching recommends first of all a dose of tolerance and a dash of self-appreciation. Empires should be built to link people together in a community.

The universe is vast

The resources of the universe are vast and so is the human resource. Within each human being is a resource so great that it transcends his physical limitations. I am talking of the human spirit which is great and vast as the vastness of space. It is the human spirit that has conquered the great mountains that divide humanity. The conquest of the vast oceans that were sailed by tiny, puny reed vessels and other vessels made of wood were powered by that great spirit that refused to be cowed by anything, not even treacherous waters . Every day we hear of heroic feats performed by ordinary human beings in the face of unimaginable catastrophe. In the same breath we hear of efforts of other human beings who dig deep into their vast human resouorces to conjure up more and more horrific methods of sowing terror in the minds of other human beings while physically blowing to pieces the victims as well as the bombers.

Very clearly we see one side cancelling the other out. No wonder that there is no Utopia in this world. The war on terror is an example of how one portion of humanity tries to cancel out the other part not thinking that Humanity is one and indivisible.This great battle is waged not only outside by people with opposing ideas and ideologies but also within the individual himself. The great human spirit wages a war inside each individual and this war is all about himself. Should he do what is right? Should he give in to some easy way and somehow lose his integrity? The daily battles waged by individuals within themselves result in the big battles that are waged by groups of individuals against other groups of individuals.

That the reason for the strife is something like nationalism, religion, ideology, way of life is immaterial. What matters is that the inability of a human being to reconcile his own personal demons results in these demons to be unleashed on the general public. How can we talk of the ideal world when the ideal personal existence is not there? A person may be rich and powerful, someone who is daily praised and emulated. Does anyone know what goes on inside him? Does anyone know the demons he is battling? If the demons of negativity wins out then maybe the public will find that out when he blows his brains out with a gun much like Richard Corey.

Obviously, we cannot talk of the big things without talking about the small things. We cannot talk about the world and what is the ideal without talking about the individual and how to realize the vast potential which the human spirit affords each and every ndividual.

What is utopia?

What is the need for an ideal world? Is utopia even achievable? The great advances in science and technology has created a world awash in wealth and material goods but the problem of poverty, disease and early death still plague a large part of the Earth's population. It is as if all of medical and agrigultural advances don't exist in the face of famine and deprivation and disease. Is utopia or the ideal world something that merely exists on paper or even just in the minds of a few people? Do we even care that many people live like animals?

Is it possible at all for this planet to become an ideal place to live for future generations? I would like to think that we can rise above our own sense of small-minded greatness and become truly universal in thought and desire. When one looks around and sees all the great innovations that make life easier and easier to live, one must also see what cannot be seen: scenes which are hidden from the everyday reality of malls and buildings and offices. It is only when some great calamity befalls us that we remember our own precarious mortality. We are not so invincible as we believe. Our six-pack abs are no defense when a tsunami strikes or a volcano spews forth its breath of sulfur and destruction or a hurricane like Katrina reminds us how nature makes puny the greatest of the great.

I believe that Utopia is possible, that the ideal world can be carved from the indifference of those who lead the charge for more wealth and consumerism. I believe that within the hearts of those who suffer beats the desire to make that which does not exist: a reality as tangible and as palpable as the pangs of hunger that seeks to destroy a spirit that cannot be destroyed.

The case of the Marcos Dictatorship in the Philippinies

The different stages in the political evolution of a country do not necessarily occur one after the other. There can be cases when it slips into a more degenerate stage instead of moving up in the natural evolution of power. The Philippines had experienced the age of kings very early when each island would be ruled by a king or a Raja or a Datu. The advent of the Spaniards was pushed by the ambitions of the Church to spread its power over greater portions of the world. The warriors and the kings were at the forefront of this venture at the instigation of the Church. For three hundred years the power of the priests held sway over the islands until the conquering ambitions of the Merchant class personified by the Americans caused the Spanish to forego their hold on the Archipelago. The Philippines therefore fell under the hegemony of the Americans which was motivated by the Merchant of profits.

The Americans left the Philippines under the guardianship of the Oligarchs or the Filipino merchant class. Ferdinand E. Marcos was a dynamic, brilliant visionary who belonged to the warrior class. He managed to present himself as a member of the merchant class and was elected president. He soon showed his true colors by embarking on a campaign of militarization which saw an increase of the military from 50,000 to 500,000 troops. He also set his sights on Sabah which was owned by the Sultan of Sulu but leased by the British and was eventually turned over to Malaysia when the British abandoned the direct rule of their colonies.

When his term was about to end he engineered a continuation of his rule by declaring Martial Law. All in all he ruled for twenty years as an absolute dictator but he was eventually driven out by the merchant class who had their standard bearer in the person of Benigno Aquino a member of the elite oligarch class. His rule therefore represents a falling back and is not really an evolutionary step. The visions of military rule by Honasan and the Oakwood mutineers are mere pipe dreams and will never prosper owing to the tremendous force of historical necessity.

Different stages in different countries

Different Eras

There are four different eras which can be traced in human history:

Era of the workers or laborers
Era of Warriors and kings
Era of Priests and thinkers (usually Spiritual Thinkers)
Era of Merchants or Businessmen

The first era cannot really be called an era because everyone has the same status. Everyone hunted or tilled the land and food was shared by the community. No one really had any power over the others.

The second era was the natural progression from having little or no rule. As a result of advances in agriculture the problem of feeding the general populace had become greatly systematized leading to an increase in life expectancy and fertility driving the growth of population thereby necessitating the institution of rules and Rulers.

The next eras followed in succession.

This is not to say that this model represents a common model in all countries or societies. Different countries have different stages that can be observed. In highly-developed countries like Great Britain we can easily chart the rise of the warriors and the monarchists as well as the rise of the priests in the form of the Authority of the Pope which did not sit well with the kings who challenged the authority of the Pope by separatiing from the Catholic Church and creating its own which is the Anglican Church. That the Anglican Church had to be created proves the ascendancy of Spiritual authority over temporal authority.

Rise of the merchant class

The Industrial Revolution: the new empire

A new development in the application of science and technology brought an unprecedented revolution in human history. The ability to mass-produce any commodity drove the engines of the Industrial Revolution. Suddenly more wealth could be created, emancipating individuals from their station in life if they just used any means available for them to make money. Poor, but smart men could suddenly amass millions and millions of dollars and pounds and francs and gold bullion if they are lucky but more importantly, ruthless enough to achieve their goals of making money. Ordinary men could now be richer than the kings and princes who ruled of old. A new ideology was born and is aptly called: Profits. Anything can be done in the name of profit. Any wheeling and dealing, machination and maneuvering was accepted and lionized if done in the name of profits. A great hunger to amass more and more wealth overcame the imaginations of many causing them to leave their homes and try their luck in the land of plentiful opportunities.

Warriors and kings were made subject to priests and intellectuals in the previous cycle of power. Now, warriors and kings, thinkers and scientists have become the willing tools of businessmen in the pursuit of profits. The principles of democracy fits squarely and snugly into the silk gloves of moneymen whose rallying cry of :"The Economy" is carried far and wide by all the communications mediacausing a president to fall and another to rise. Everything is dictated by "the economy". If some money can be put in the pockets of the many then the man who can claim to have done that would become president or prime minister; never mind that the money that trickles into the pockets of the majority is a mere pittance in comparison to the billions that flood into the coffers of the Multinational corporations.

Changes in the seat of power

The ascendancy of Intellectuals.

It might have been physical strength or strategic ability that gave rise to the rule of Warrior-kings but as minds evolve and societies grow in sophistication, the arena shifts to the realm of the intellect as the main sources of power. Long before they wielded power themselves directly intellectuals have had a pivotal role in the decision-making processes of kingdoms, empires and tribes. A leader would have his wizard or shaman or seer who would help him decide a course of action. The final say would stil be had by the king who could arbitrarily put to death anyone who displeases him. This gives rise to the system of courtiers, bureaucrats and civil servants who help run the day to day affairs of the state.

Very early on in the evolution of power, God was always a handy tool to invoke hence, the doctrine of the Divine Right of Kings. Very often, kings would invoke the divine favor bestowed on them by stating the obvious: i am king hence God wants me to be king. Taken to the extreme would be the claim of being descended from God himself. This would silence even the most vociferous critics who are every bit as superstitious as everyone else. Elaborate rituals would be performed where the king would invoke his divine abilities usually in the matter of agriculture and general prosperity.

The data needed for his mysterious rituals would be provided by his priests who also happened to be scientists in their own right. Priests would perform this elaborate exercise on a regular basis. Pretty soon priests would turn the tables on the kings and become the actual leaders themselves. We find examples of this in Egypt, South America and in the rise of the Holy Roman Empire for christians and the rule of the Imams in the Islamic world.

Physical prowess and strength

Might is right

In more primitive times, a man exhibiting great strength or physical prowess would earn the admiration and respect of people. He would tend to become the leader when it comes to leading hunting expeditions and similar such activities. In those simpler times, the problem of hunting required physical strength and agility and dexterity. The one therefore who could bring home the meat would be an important personage indeed. As communities prosper there arises a need to organize for the common welfare and protection. The cultivation of hunting skills led to the development of warrior skills as well since the two functions utilize the same skills and abilities.

A man who has the capability to kill others becomes someone to be feared and respected. When he is able to defend his tribe from the marauding raids of other tribes then his fame increases. This probably led to the development of the Warrior as supreme leader or king. From the different cultures and from different parts of the world this phenomenon can be observed and became quite widespread and universally accepted.

No bed if roses

The trick is to survive

Life is no bed of roses. Any birth is always tumultuous. The birth of the universe is called The Big Bang owing to the tremendous force that was expended in the beginning when time, space and matter were first created. Human birth is not so easy either although science has created various ways to alleviate the painful entry of a new life in this world. Life is characterized by the birth of one heralding the death of another. But is death really a final death or merely a transformation? Human survival is no less easy.

If one were to trace human history one would find that life is not so easy to do at all. From the point of view of those who have less the struggle could be more basic like having food on the table or shelter over their heads. From the point of view of those who have more the dilemma might be: which shoes to wear? which car to buy? Either way having more does not exempt one from having problems.

Many times when one feel that the burden one is carrying may be too much to bear and one is tempted to take a way out which is unthinkable and rarely solves anythng. The lure of suicide might be seductive and temppting but is it really a a real solution or merely an illusion? There is one thing that is certain when one commits suicide: this life and all its pain and suffering ends but so also the chances and opportunities to take control and to make changes if not to one's life but to one's attitude towards life and what being alive could mean.

Waves and Particles

Nothing rests. Everything moves

It is said that the only constant is change. This sounds like two contradictory ideas: constant=change. If it is constant then how can it change? If it changes then how can it be said to be constant? Yet we know without being quantum physicists that everything changes. We can, from empirical observation tell that a day which seems to be like other days is really different from the other days we have seen. So a day which is called a day is really a different day. Sounds confusing? or maybe even trivial? This however, is the very nature of the universe. It is made up of waves and vibrations. Physics tells us that there is very little difference between a particle and a wave although a particle ought to be the opposite of a wave But on observation a wave sometimes exhibits the behaviour and characteristics of a particle and the same is observed of the particle when it behaves like a wave.

A garden of only white flowers becomes boring quite easily

When one plants a garden one makes sure that there are more than just one type of flower and that also goes for colors.. One tries to find uniqueness and tries various techniques to produce hybrids from two different parents. Man somehow tries to mimic nature which creates varieties profusely. From a simple element: hydrogen which has only one electron orbiting its nucleus comes other elements like oxygen, helium, carbon and many others with ever increasingly-complex structures. Electrons do not stay with one nucleus in its lifetime but gets bumped and driven away and meets and merges with another nucleus fo form another element or maybe just a variation of that element as in the case of ozone, a variation of oxygen which has three electrons instead of the usual two in the garden-variety, run-of-the-mill oxygen.
